Exp Update: 0.59 (+hotfix).

Keep in mind: perhaps people are just not looking hard enough.

I get the feeling that they are already factoring that in, and it's a very good thing. The PvP crowd will always whine and moan when there is a change made that makes their playstyle more difficult or time consuming, but they always adapt to it eventually and move on to complaining about the next change. You have to let them complain for a while and get it out of their system until the feedback loses some bias.

Thanks for the info about the rabbit snare! The part about the different surfaces is particularly helpful.

the problem I am having is that my leather clothing is coming out in different shades. (example, my black leather jacket is pretty much black, but my black leather sack is burgundy, even though I dyed them both with nails.

That's just a difference in item models, not a failure of the barrel or your method :)

Time for a few pictures from my time playing with GaryWalnuts, Mullraugh, and Chef Bananas last night. We spent lots of time running around Novo and discovering another new enterable building. Killed many, many zombies over the course of the evening and met a few players both friendly and hostile. Mullraugh assumed the identity of Dr. Schultz and would approach strangers to engage them in conversation  Eventually I decided to don a matching laboratory outfit. Eventually we made our way over to Berezino so I could show a few of them the renovated city!

Keep in mind: perhaps people are just not looking hard enough.

I went from Prigorodki to outskirts of Elektro to Pusta to Mogilevka and finally Vyshnoye.

I found 3/4 stacks of 40 9mm ammo, 2 stacks of 40 .380 auto rounds and 1 stack of 40 .308 Winchester Rounds.

In my opinion that is more than enough ammo. If it isn't enough than people should learn to aim.

People should look harder because the majority is blind. The perfect example was a person who didn't see me standing outside when I was 2 meters away from him.

Besides, less ammo means more fun and perhaps more bow and arrow.

Just because you found some doesn't mean there isn't a problem, I still haven't found any since I posted my reply and I ended up getting killed in the middle of nowhere before I did.

I'm going to call a penalty on that play. You can't tease us with a new building interior and then not include a pic, or two.

I decided to head back to Cherno this afternoon in the hopes to have a little bit of fun with the infected. (Even though they are still the old models, etc.)

I logged in my 1PP character and made my way into the city, trying to avoid them at first and get to the center of town. Didn't encounter anyone not infected there, but there was many bodies scattered around. Overall I had a good time, and even though the server was mostly full, I didn't encounter much lag, rubberbanding or desync.

Other than that, I really like that the ammo is more scarce now, but with stacks being always full, it's still pretty easy.

So far I haven't crashed once in 0.59 experimental. Looking forward the new versions.

Left some supplies right outside Cherno, 1PP US central or Southwest, not sure. Enjoy.

Got cornered in a small space, but managed to take my assailants out.

Glad to have found a VSS on 3PP, still no mag yet.

Funny how the old ui state "2015" while the -newui is still in "2013"!  :P

I hear most people talking positive about the scarcer ammo and even though there is less, people still find it.

So why can't you? I can easily reverse your sentence: just because you didn't find any doesn't mean there is a problem.

Yes, I've found boxes of both .308 and 9mm, so they're definitely in the game, but to your point (which is, I assume) loose ammo seems to be more common than boxed ammo.

I think the fact that loose ammo is currently more prevalent than boxed ammo may be artificially making ammo feel more rare than it actually is. By now, I'm sure most of you have noticed that plenty of things that one can visually see are not showing up in the vicinity window. That is all well and good for, say, a child's backpack or a hunting jacket. You can clearly see the item. However, loose piles of ammo can easily clip into the environment or simply appear so small as to be unnoticeable. If there is, for example, a pile of .308 on the backseat of car and it doesn't show up in the vicinity window, are you certain that you would visually see it in the middle of the night with 60 other people on the server that you are worried about?

Also, I have twice now found ammo in what I think are new memory points in civilian houses and I could not visually see the ammo in either case.

I think the Idea of rare ammo is good, but they are implementing it wrong.

With out looking I've already found way more ammo then I will probably ever use. Unless I just go on a zombie killing spree

I suggest they drop the large ammo boxes , or make them even more rare.

Up the lose ammo spawns again , but reduce the amount per spawn

Example : you find ammo just as common as before , But rather then stacks of 10 / 20 and so on , Just find one here, 3 there .

This way you have enough to survive with , but not enough to go blasting away.

Filling a 30 round mag would take a lot of time .

And of course , mags should spawn empty ..

I've had an unusual number of "out of memory" crashes and random freezes. Typically when others are experiencing such problems en masse, I am among the lucky ones coasting through just fine  It's not ruining the game experience for me or anything, though.

make sure your connection is clear. Servers can be a bit laggy atm.

greets

Changed to stable and played over an hour without any problems, switched back to EXP and after seven mins. "session lost".

I thought that you were loosing your touch. I am ashamed of myself for jumping to conclusions. Well done!

No crashes, or freezes here. Just a bit of lag from time to time, when the server stops paying attention to me. I'm running W8.1. Perhaps your copy of W10 is a contributing factor?

BTW - I don't know which mobo you're running, but I saw something on Reddit suggesting that the stock W10 Killer NIC drivers were causing memory leaks. A couple of folks report that updating to the HW mfg's driver solved the problem. YMMV.

Windows 10 may indeed be a factor. I'll have to take a look at which drivers I'm currently using and taking action accordingly. Thanks for the tip!

Depending on where you're looking there's a good chance other players have gotten to ammo that spawned before you did. I've found ammo along the coast and other towns inland so keep trying and you'll find some eventually.

Because, as evidenced by their posts, "the masses" have absolutely no idea what an aspect ratio is, much less, whether they need one, or not.

As I said, I'm all about giving advanced users the ability to manually edit the config files in order to resolve problems, or compensate for unusual hardware configurations. Does the game overwrite your edits if you write protect the config file; has the aspect ratio data been completely removed from the file, or does the game just ignore these data?

BTW - I'm not sure that I understand this comment, "... I certainly would report it...... If it was a bug." If the game is correctly selecting your aspect ratio, please help us to understand why you are intentionally trying to run a non-standard aspect ratio. What benefit do you derive from this apart from distorted geometry?

I'm curious about this as well. Why are people upset about the locked aspect ratio?

It's news to me that the aspect ratio is locked for everyone and news to me that it doesn't look strange for most! The reason I am bothered by the locked aspect ratio is that it makes my game look wonky. This is fixed by setting the monitor to the correct settings, but my "monitor" is an HDTV which I had to research and tweak the scaling settings on my graphics card simply to show all of the screen in 1080p.  > :(

@BleedoutBill, I have searched the config files for lines about aspect ratio and have not found any. the WinDef settings seem to make no difference atm.

@BleedoutBill, I have searched the config files for lines about aspect ratio and have not found any. the WinDef settings are 1600x900, which is the setting my HDTV is on. I guess it's ignoring these values.

Using what is seemingly an ubiquitous 1080p monitor (32" TV actually), I confess that I haven't had the need to muck around with the aspect ratio configuration, hence my question(s). I confess that you've raised my curiosity, however, so I'll have a look at the files.

It sounds like you have two different issues. The first is overscan, which is a very common problem / feature with TV screens. Sometimes, the TV will have a "Game Input," jack, which defeats the overscan as well as the bulk of the TV's internal signal processing. Because of this, using this input for your computer is generally preferred above all of the other options. Otherwise, overscan can usually be adjusted via the GPU's driver applet, although I have seen exceptions.

Although a relatively common TV format, 1600x900 (A.K.A. 900p) is a far less popular choice as a computer monitor. If the game does not yet recognize that 1600x900 is a 16:9 aspect ratio monitor, then please report this via the bug tracker, so that it can be addressed by the devs.

My HDTV's native resolution is 1080, but I was using 1600x900, I recently switched to 1080 because I learned how to see the whole screen via the scaling options on my graphics card. I forgot to switch my DayZ aspect ratio with the change to 1080, though, so it turns out I was seeing a short and wide version of the game until now  :P Kinda embarrassing, but whatever.

On a side note, I switched to using the bottom HDMI port instead of the top, and my fps went from 10-15 to 35-50! I've been playing on the wrong HDMI port for MONTHS lmfao!!!! Thanks for informing me about the TV settings, turns out they had a LOT to do with my DayZ frustrations.

Well the first iteration of 0.59 exp needs a lot of work doing to it.  I can see by the bug reports there is quite a bit of fixing to be done.  I think I will wait a few weeks now for them to fix some of these things before trying exp again.  I do hope they fix them quickly so more people go on exp to give them better data.  I'm not complaining I know its exp and I expect problems. This one for me just killed it. Placed a protective box in tree and now I cant do anything with it.  I hope you can see the screen shots.

Dayz new inventory is a copy after Miscreated inventory or Miscreated game already copied DayZ new ui inventory - which is faraway from the final look anyway?

You have to chop the tree, than you will have access to the case again:-) i don't know why this bug is a problem again, it worked in the patches before. But they will fix it.

I have a heartworming story for those griping about KOS in experimental, just happened about an hour ago.

It's nighttime on a 1PP server, I approached the loot barracks at the southeast corner of NWAF, as I came in from the fence I see a guy hurrying north away from me and he ran past a dead guy standing next to the hangar. I checked the barracks, then the dead guy's ruined pack and found a lantern with fuel can attached. I peeked around the hangar, didn't see anyone so I run back to the barracks, set the lantern down and turn it on and then book out of the airfield. Suddenly gunshots behind me, two people shooting different guns, I think maybe they're fighting each other, so I hide until the shooting stops and swing wide around the south end to check the other barracks there.

Same deal, a dead guy standing outside the already-looted barracks, so I light up a torch I was carrying and set it between the buildings and run away. I made the fence and started running west across a field, suddenly gunshots behind me, again, except this time they're aimed at me. I start weaving, running up a hill with no cover, the sun is dawning and I'm wearing a snow-white jacket with a bright orange boonie hat, and the treeline is 200 yards away. Bullets are hitting all around me, that guy must've shot a mag and a half out of his ak, but didn't hit me once.

A couple hills later I find a heli crash, inside was a smoke grenade but not much else, so I lit it and dropped it right there inside the heli. I crawled out, ran to a nearby shed and logged out smiling. That was probably the most fun I've had in this game yet.

On another subject, anyone finding netting anywhere? I've made a couple trips along the coast, and the dynamic boat crashes only have hats or the occasional jacket.

I am a culinary wizard... how cool is this!  B)

cooking using a pot and the closed barrel.

Nice! Didn't realize they snuck that in for this build. To the wiki!

I'm beginning to understand your frustrations a lot better. Prior to my current 1440p monitor, I was using a small 1080p television like yourself and had major issues with scaling when playing via HDMI. The TV simply did not have any settings or ports available to compensate properly, and scaling via my control panel produced less than ideal results. I was forced to play via DVI in order to get a properly scaled signal.

Dayz new inventory is a copy after Miscreated inventory or Miscreated game already copied DayZ new ui inventory - which is faraway from the final look anyway?

I don't think either one was inspired by the other. They both use design elements common to video game inventory screens. The current NewUI in DayZ hasn't really seen an artistic touch of any kind yet either, it's purely a functional prototype.

I made some trips on the coast too. Since the servers are full at everytime i guess the boats are mostly looted when you find them.
