Exp Update: 0.58 + Hot Fix.

Recommended Posts

If they're causing so much hassle on servers, my suspicion is that they will just never be adaptable to the game in a manner that allows them to be used in an effective manner.

I really, really hope this turns out to be wrong, but I'd be lying if I pretended that this was not my deepest fear for DayZ.

I dont know when you started playing SA, but there were at least two updates with crazy infected spawning. I think .42/.43 but not sure. Zeds would instantly respawn close to where they died and instantly aggro on you (but they would aggro anyway because you were had to shoot all the time). There was one night when I played with friends when we had to escape Novi Sobor because 4 of us couldnt fight them off. It was like scene from Bravo Two Zero, where two were shooting and other two reloading behind them. One of best SA sessions ever.

You should assume that like Jack Torrence at the Overlook Hotel I've, "always been here".

Yes, I remember that build.

The infected were on a perpetual respawn loop, never lost aggro, or got tired of chasing.

It was a cheap and simple way to provide some challenge with the inferior infected that were in place at the time.

That was not nearly as fun as the .55 iterations with more sophisticated sensing and movements.

I actually remember putting that build down because of the infinite respawn....

I haven't seen any shotgun ammo

I've found lots of shotgun ammo and 380 mm rounds at deer stance and houses with 2 clips + packages, but no winchester ammo for the blaze weapon.

I'm aware that winchester ammo is popular among players, but I rarely find any.

Anyway, an attempt to scare away snipers at night near the military camp at Green Mountain with a light torch!   ^_^

I liked that. It reminded me on mod. I liked how zeds behaved in .55, sensors and all.

But... when devs changed to "new" zeds, they look like they move in 10-11 frames per second. Their movement and travel are not sycronised. I dont like that. I dont know if Im the only one that noticed that.

This to me doesn't bode well for what I'd like to see in 'DayZ', which is 100's of infected in major towns and random hordes across the map.

If they're causing so much hassle on servers, my suspicion is that they will just never be adaptable to the game in a manner that allows them to be used in an effective manner.

At present, 'DayZ' is simply a slightly glorified PvP game where people get a gun and head off to Cherno or Electro to see how long they'll last and it'll remain that way without a serious threat from zombies.

At present, the team is still working on the performance issues (like some of the other guys in here already said), so the infected have not been removed permanently. Once things get on track performance wise, the infected will of course return.

Yep, I know that develpment is ongoing, I'm just voicing a fear that I have that the issues with the zombie causing problems over servers might prove to be too difficult to conquer. It does seem to be a very "big time" bug causer.

loooool I remember this.

Also, everytime you shot there was a Zombie spawning 10 meters near you, also a "feature" introduced in those patches was infected running about twice the speed as yourself.

That was hilarious. Great Patch indeed. Almost as awesome as no food / no wells patch

Also a great FPS fix possibly:

Zombies don't spawn anymore, they orbit players.

I just hope the Devs know that we as players just want this game to be hard. Making zombies a real threat is the best way to change everyone from pvp to pvz. I just got kos again today right after I f1'd. I am looking forward to meeting random people in game and trying to survive together.

And since when has exp been so full of kos?

But it doesnt make sense, that you kill a zombie and a new one spawns right away. There SHOULD be a possibility to clear a village. DayZ wants to go realism, and continuous spawn is as far away from realism as it could be.

Yup, I saw similar and to varying degrees since .55 as well.

What I think we were seeing there was a byproduct of server side lag and not likely the programming of the infected as it were.

I'm just trying to be patient while respectfully voicing my thoughts and concerns.

Here, have another meme I made back in Nov '13 while waiting for the SA. (*Most of the people whose avatar I used for this no longer post here.)

The idea is to simulate numerous zombies without having them roam the map all the time creating server issues. It's not a thing currently, so hard to tell what their plan with them is now.

So with the addition of aging/weathering of character models can we also have shaving kits too please?

I don't want to have to have a hipster bearded survivor.... hipsters ruin everything good they touch.   :P

It's been a while since the last stable push and the native are getting restless.  So, they're migrating over to EXP.

Makes sense. Probably why exp servers are filling so quickly as well.

I haven't seen any shotgun ammo at all.

Both ammo & snap loaders are spawning.

Everything spawns much better now as far as survival video game standards go. I made it to NW airfield without finding a bag or burlap, but did find deer and fertilizer close to my Elektro spawn.

I feel that, forecasting the addition of stamina, food is distributed very well. Even searching places I know are frequented (Elektro supermarket area) yields some fundamental supplies, so it's good to experience more the responsive economy. higher calorie foods are a little too common in my opinion, but we'll see how my stomach's doing when hiking replaces sprinting...

Also, I came across a truck with a ruined glow plug parked on the side of the road, and wouldn't you know it, I just happened to have a good one.

I've been carrying around the same trumpet for the last 3 or 4 days.

A worn hunting scope is attached and I've collected about four 10 round .22 Sporter mags, of course I still haven't seen a Sporter!

In true DayZ fashion I've passed up other rifles and then find their respective mags -  but never finding the exact item I'm looking for.

When I finally see that Sporter I'll probably become so overwhelmed that I do something completely irrational -

- like fall out of a hunting stand or push the wrong key and drink from the gas can I've been lugging around

+1 for limited weapon spawns

Hunting scope on a trumpet?

Loot Table: - Field shovel (wild growth) in one of the top outlook towers - I saw 6 field shovels up there -

I didn't take any screen shoots though.  And full servers feels empty - I only see players on low population servers, and they usually

change servers near NW Airfield. I ate in a hangar earlier today with 4 people on the server and a dude shoot me while I ate my lunch, lol.

Boots 'n' shovels, boots 'n' shovels, boots 'n' shovels, boots 'n' shovels, boots 'n' shovels, boots 'n' shovels, boots 'n' shovels, boots 'n' shovels, boots 'n' shovels ...

Gotta love dem towers!

This patch is kickass. It feels like DayZ again.

So here is a crazy thought. CRAZY THOUGHT! Why not just throw in the old clientside zombies? Until you get the server side ones worked out. We would all know its a placeholder but then there would be a lot less community pressure. Shit have it as a launch option that one would need to enable like "-oldzeds"; would force an opt-in and not push them on people.

A: How would that affect the quality of the data logs?

B: Would the work needed to implement such a thing be an undue tax on dev resources?

If the answer to any of the above is negative, I would say it would be worth holding off such a thing.

I meant to imply that the nature of the answer given is negative but you are correct to imply that the wording could be construed either way.
