How was your Day(Z)?

Recommended Posts

I killed a guy at the NWAF y-day. I was being chased by a zed and didnt want to shoot so I led him into one of the steel hangars by the quonset hut. To my surprise a guy sits in the corner and starts shooting so i have to mow him down. Dunno how i survived but all my clothes and vest are ruined now :/

at least you're at The place to get gear. Unfortunately i l was just about to do some pvping but whilst running to a hospital in cherno i was hit in the leg and shortly after the chest and went unconscious. luckily the guy didn't shoot a 3rd time. i got up, morphined my leg, ran to a while and logged out while noting that i have the worst luck. i see that my pants and vest are ruined but all items are fine thanks to protector cases. i work on getting healed and finding new pants, debating whether not to replace my vest. (its usefulness having been proven).

while looting this afternoon i did kill a player at nwaf. he was toting a gun but had nothing in his hands. i shot at him as soon as i saw him not trusting him for a single second since i was killed there while looting last night. I felt a little bad but thems the bricks.

I had a weird night. First I met a guy at zelno while I was popping zeds. He said "we can be friends, we dont have to kill eachother" then he started shooting. I decided he needed to die but got stuck on the dead zeds and killed. I didnt mind as my guy was fully geared and useless. As I respawned I was ataacked bu a puncher. I ran around and teased him for a bit but he kept on. I told him he could have my mosin if he stopped puncing but he didnt. I went inot the sea for a bit and got me a cup of tea. When i got back he was still there. We danced for a while adn i told him that if he just said " I'm a retard sitting in my chair drooling and wanking" I would give him my gear. But he didnt so i left. Then I got shot a Kamy policestation by someone who wasnt there. All the doors were closed on the second floor but still I got shot as soon as I got up there. Not from above. Maybe through a door.

Anyways, I changed servers as my frames were hopeless on Grumys and had a medium-geared character in upper Berezino. I met a guy and talked to him then gave him a 1911 and a rak mag. Later I meet another guy so I give him a hunting scope and get some food. I then meet a girl wearing a pink raincoat and some other guy following her. I watch them for a bit through my scope but they seem to talk and then move on. I get to Kamy and theres people in the policestation. I watch them for a while but nobodys killing anyone so I move on. I get to Elektro and all is quiet so I log out.

after getting healed and replacing my damaged gear i set back on the path i had taken previously. i look through electro on a 30 pop server. no one there surprisingly so i take off down the road to cherno. eventually i see a player running ahead. not too geared, gun on his back and a child briefcase. he loots a group of houses to the left and i follow hoping to get an interaction. i have no idea which house he went into so i just walk into the nearest hoping to snag a can of food or soda. turns out hes in there. so i run into the next room instead of doing what most people do and shooting him immediately. he decides to pull his axe out. great. 5 shots from my aks and he's down. no harm to me. i simply tell him it didn't have to be that way and continue to cherno.

did not see a single soul there. so i decide to call it a night.

I think I found out why people have been so unresponsive to me lately. It seems my Mic isn't working in Dayz. I changed my headset to Headphones with a loose mic and it works in Teamspeak and in my sound controller but not in Dayz. Weird. Hope my Modmic turns up on monday so I can get it working.

Today was a sad day. First I had a geared player get one shot outside Elektro by someone, full health, plate carrier and still scwupp!, unconcious, then killed by the assailant, then I got punched out by a newspawn even though I hit him twice with my axe first. Then I got killed in the almost exact same spot by two very well-geared guys who just had to shoot me even though I was an evident non-threat.

Then I cuffed a guy looting a bus. I talked to him for a bit via text but then he turned ugly so I knocked him out and left him. I didnt have any keys for the cuffs anyways.

Played for about 30 minutes until the server restarted. Came down from my wilderness lodge and -walked- into town.. Saw a few zombies and just went around. I found a dead body completely stripped so I looked around. A minute later a voice called out so I went inside a building and stared out. Two guys came running in with guns drawn so I killed them.

No feeling anymore.

Turns out they had no bullets for their guns, but I didn't feel like dying from strangers. Oh well.

I just encountered this problem too... go into Steam and redetect your mic. I'm almost 100% sure that will resolve your issue. Give it a try!

^ Glad to hear you got it working either way.

A few of the Helpy Helpers bounced to another server last night for another evening of "Mercy or Mayhem." All of us were pretty much in the same area and-

"Hey... is that one of you guys?" Cold said, walking down the tracks by the quarry on the south end of Sol. Our whole night and the plan was immediately interrupted exactly like that.

"No- I'm closer to the beach."

"Not me... I'm still on our server."

"Coming over from the gas station..."

"Okay- There is at least one guy over here. He's carrying a weapon..."  We all converged on the area of the quarry but before any of us could get close it happened- multiple gunshots from close aboard: "I'm shot... I'm shot-"

I came around the corner by the rectangular storage building and there was a guy standing with his back turned to me with a blue taloon on- None of us have blue taloons so I released my happy helper all over the back of his head in the shape of both circumcised barrels. I started getting hit from somewhere else so I ducked out- taking hits to my medic kit and yellow protector case. I was bleeding and had a chipped leg.

"I think I hit one- but I'm hit and bleeding. Greying out."

Cold had a similar story. "I killed at least one... but I'm in rough shapy guys- I need help"

Someone else mentioned there was another body. "Did he have a blue taloon?" Answer was in the affirmative.

I mended and Hairy went over to push some fluids into cold. I was able to get a morphine in and bandage up (have to admit, I really enjoy the "medic" role even if in this case it was just on myself)- I wasn't shot up as badly as Cold so I headed northwest in an effort to get around a "third" guy that we thought we were dealing with. I went around wide and eventually ended up on the rock face of the quarry looking down. We spotted one other guy running with weapon drawn and I was able to track him heading generally north from the rectangular warehouse. Can't remember who killed him but I'm pretty sure it was cold.

Things quietened down a bit at that point- everyone mended and my status was "healing" which was good enough for me. Shell came in and took up a spot on the north side of Sol covering to the factory. I have to be honest- we don't often meet that kind of aggression in Sol but I'm glad we were able to meet it head on.

We waited.

"Keep eyes open for freshies- those guys will probably be back" and minutes later they appeared. Funny how that works sometimes... Gee- 99 spawn points and all 3 get spawned at Nizhnoye, eh?

One fully geared guy was escorting one freshie and they headed straight for the area the fight happened. It was evident they knew someone was around. I began calling out their locations and while hoping to keep them pinned closer to the coast opened up with a VSS. I am a little rusty right now so it took a couple shots but they got the point when I killed the geared guy. The other dude didn't want to leave... he stuck around on the other side of the fence- peeking out every now and then enough to draw an additional shot. I figured he was waiting for the guy to come back to get his gear. Pretty sure Hairy said he could see a guy in blue and a guy in green- so it may still have been 3 people we were dealing with. I think they were trying to stay in proximity to the gear so it didn't despawn. Problem is- proximity put them in my sights and I reminded them of that every time they peeked out. Unfortunately I missed every shot.

"We need to get someone in there and clean that up from up close- I can't hit him. He's glitching through walls and I have no idea where he actually is."

But even though it seemed we were healed guys were having some major gear issues. A bunch of ruined items were making a second go more difficult and I had one of the undamaged guys guarding my flank on the rock... it was just the way it happened that we couldn't just flush the game and take them down for good. So the guy stayed around. 10 minutes or so passed before another fresh appears (presumably the geared guy from before) and the two of them dance around his gear quite a bit. At my range I was having some trouble dialing in- probably ruined most of his stuff since we'd been using it as target practice the whole time he was gone) but eventually I took my sights off it long enough that he weaseled in and grabbed it. They then darted off north towards the factory where Shell was covering.

"They're heading north... they're around the factory area... now they're heading west into the trees."

I think Cold said, "They're flanking us."

Shell, Hairy and I posted a defense along the hill to the west of Sol and sure enough within a couple of minutes I spotted them coming through the trees and caught the guy without the gear a bit flat footed. Like a noob I hadn't adjusted my zero distance and missed even at very short range. Goodness. It seems we were all affected a bit by some lag as Hairy got kicked out for a ping of over 700... That's another matter.

I think shell killed one guy- pretty sure a couple of us took a chunk out of the second guy... Although to be honest it's starting to blend together on me. Seems we had another guy running away down the hill...

We regrouped after that and decided that the (RUS) in the server name probably meant the server's location or something since all of us were experiencing bad performance... so we dropped out of that server and eventually went into another. In the transaction at some point Emu was running around and went into a shed / structure that is known to be glitched... guess he spontaneously died... so then Cold went to try and collect his gear and that turned into its own affair. Dave went with him on the recovery.

The rest of the evening was uneventful. Naktl and I branched off and headed north to the factory on a new server to look for animal pelts and some "mercy" missions and other than a single near fresh guy (with a motorcycle helmet on... rrrrrrrrrrrrrr) that I was able to track from a distance for awhile we saw nothing. He spent most of the time glitch sliding on his knees the whole time we were together and that was enough of an immersion killer for me given that it was late anyway.

before i participated with the group, i spent the morning hours running to Myshkino and gearing up from a previous death several days ago. ended up finding a car and plenty of loot. spent about 3 hours searching for tires for the car. I went to vybor searching for one final tire before i made my way to Sol to meet up in the evening and realized i had run out of food. awesome.

so i start searching the houses for loot, and find a can or 2 of food after about 6 houses (which for me is unusual due to the fact that i seem to always find food in every building, but i digress.)

im in the upstairs of one of the tan 2 story houses when i hear footsteps out of sync with my own, i stop and hear the heart stopping sound. the loading of a weapon. i hear more footsteps outside the building and know for certain im not alone. i call out in game 'hey im friendly in here, no need to have a gun out.' to which i hear a reply. 'then why did you just reload your gun?'

this sent up a big red flag in my brain. one, because i felt certain he was lying, and 2, perhaps there was a second person who didnt know the 2 of us were also nearby. so i keep cool as best i can.

me 'well that wasnt me buddy, but i heard it too, sounds like there is a third person nearby or its a glitch'

him 'ok whatever you say you are friendly and i am too.'

at this point i hear footsteps inside the building.

me 'ok im not really in the mood to hang out with anyone, so ill go my way and you can go yours and everyone is happy.'

him 'i thought you were friendly' the tone of his voice is really making me uncomfortable. i i pull my mp5 and aim it down the stairs.

i say something like  'well listen i just wanna keep moving, so just head outside and we wont have problems'

him 'well if you are friendly you have nothing to worry about right?'

i see him peek into the stairwell as im saying 'just stay downstairs and we wont have any problems i dont want anyone to die'

him ' well i thought you said you were friendly, so are you or not?' he steps full into the stairwell, and at this point i see his gun in his hands and i hold my fire, to see what he says. (i should have just shot him.)

me ' well i could have just shot you right there but i didnt, so we dont hav-'

RATATATAT and i get hit multiple times as i backpeddle into the room and instantly die. he had stepped into the stairwell again and shot me. to add insult to injury

him 'who could have shot who? HAHA you @$%# sucker!'

3rd guy who sounded like a 12 year old 'haha loser, you suck! f off mate!'

(knew there was a third guy.)

i log off because of how mad i am at myself for not better defending myself and at the fact the guy sort of played nice with me, only to blast my head off. (i had been wearing a gorka helmet but i guess he hit me in the face. oh well.)

i wait about 20 mins and come back in and see they havent left. later dave gets ahold of me and shows me the logs and tells me who it was. spent about 5 mins in sol and instantly got geared again looting houses. minus a gun. thus my trigger finger was itchy for the evening that awaited us, and boy were we rewarded.

So I've had this one char for maybe a month. I've currently got a press vest, a Makarov, and an AK101. I regularly visit that airfield south of Novo, since it's not highly populated but still has OK loot, but avoid the edgy military gear. Currently wearing a red hoodie, green ushanka, grey jeans, and grey wellies. And an axe. I never put down that axe.

Anyway, I'm walking down that highway, hoping for someone I can PvP or to kill me, since I find the game a bit boring when you've got everything. Instead, I come across a newspawn. I approach, asking him if he was friendly. He asked me to lower my axe. I did. I asked him if he needed anything. He asked for food. I dropped a bag of rice. Suddenly, bang, a nearby Mosin shot. I tell him to get down because of shots. After about three minutes, we hear nothing. We decide to camoflauge our clothing by rolling the grass. We did this for about 10 minutes while talking. We got up after that, and began heading down the highway. We reached some small town. "Hey, I'm gonna go loot around, see if I can find somethin."

We never saw eachother again after that </3.

I continue down the highway. I'm paranoid as fuck. Keep checking over my shoulder, convinced that I'm being followed. Eventually I just log after jogging into the forest.

How was your day?

Well my friend shoot my pinky toe off, and i got knockedout by a winchester right in my knee.... sooo yeah i would say just fine, im still alive!

nowadays i'm far to wary of anyone that finds me and is armed. by the way that guy was speaking he was definitely going to kill anyone and then act like a hardass for doing so even though he's actually just playing like a pansy.

didn't play yesterday as i've been playing resident evil 4 (just got to babysitting ashley, yay..) but before that i was helping a friend regear. we looted balota airfield and he managed to snag some 308s for his winchester and i found a mosin i had lost thanks to the weapon swap glitch. later inside the town i see a player. My friend hadn't noticed yet and the guy was clearly going after him. i let off a few rounds in his direction and land a couple hits but was short on breath. the guy shoots at me and injures me quite a bit and ruins my m65 jacket (always the jacket man..) so i duck inside a house and see my friend in there. having a feeling he'd shoot me on accident i take it cautiously and slowly enter the room. one legshot later i'm unconscious. every time i play with anyone else.. he gets me back up though and we start working on a plan.

thus far, we're slightly outgunned as i'm too injured for a direct fight and he lacks an automatic. we've come to far to loose what we have as it was getting late. so decide to move from house to house for constantly changing vantage points and location. it works fairly well. we see that its 2 guys. one likely more geared than the other (like us). my friend manages to finish off one guy after opening the front door and firing from downstairs in the kitchen. the guy drops, we change positions and he grabs his ak74. after some scouting around we see that the other guy must've left and we go on our way. soon i have to go and i bid him farewell for now. damn good time.

Played today with a working mic and it made some difference, I believe. First a guy shot me on top of teh policestation in cherno but cuffed me and bandaged me. We talked and he relesed the cuffs AND gave me a loaded Cr75. I was amazed. Sadly we only got to the hopsital when we were assaulted and I got shot. Went unconcious but never woke up :(

Second I met a guy in Kamyshovo, he had a gun and so did I but I greeted him adn we talked briefly then went our separate ways.

In Elektro there was no talking though. Snipers killed people on the hospital roof and they were trying to get to their gear. I watched the show and only shot one guy when he came near me with one of my two shotgun shells. But I did notice something strange that I haven't seen before. When someone goes up the stairwell, you can see their shadow on the wall opposite of the stairwell, towards the square. Pretty weird.

Quite a funny thing happened y-day. I logged in near cherno with a geared character adn went into town as I heard gunfire there. I went around the town lookign for culprits and finally found them in the police station area. I made my way to the docks TEC building roof and checked out the area. I hear shots and see a guy sitting on a catwalk outside and it looks like he just shot someone. I aim my scoped blaze and got his skull in my crosshairs when I press the trigger and it goes "CLICK!". He bolted away adn i go prone. I check my gear and it seems the blaze wasn't loaded and i didn't have any Ammo, lol!

I write in chat "If I had ammo you'd be dead" and log out.

I found a heli crash in kamenka, I had no idea they actually spawned there. Got me an Ump but no mag for it :/

Other than that ive had a few good days where ive gotten into gunfights and survived, surprisingly enough. The funiest ones where in the school in cherno and the school in elektro on the same night with two different characters! And both times both me and my assailant got wounded but survived. Or rather, I survived and the cherno guy got murdered by some guys a few minutes after. I tried to avenge him but my trumpet didnt even make a dent so i ran and hid instead.

Hi everyone - been a while...  Nice to see the forums back and also to see the old gang still here and going strong :-)

So what's new?  Well, I've been playing quite a lot recently, particularly with DC and sometimes also with sprig and this, perhaps helped with sufficient hours played during which time I've done most of the "survival" things one can do in DayZ, but perhaps more importantly by literally hundreds of player interactions, has resulted in a sea change in my attitude to playing the game.  Actually, sea change might be too strong.  As I write and I really think about it, the old krazy is still mostly there, it's just that I rarely play solo these days so he doesn't get out much.  But you ask, what the hell am I talking about?  Well, I've repeatedly stated that I'm terrible at fighting and I don't do PVP and I'm afraid to say that this is what has changed.

Well, half of it - I'm still absolutely the worst player in the game for fighting, but playing alongside DC and sprig, I am now pretty much actively PVPing.  It's an endless cycle of gearing up, fighting, dying, gearing up, fighting and dying.  However, I still have some small sense or right and wrong.  I won't take a geared player down to the coast and kill new spawns, for example, but I will travel the chopper spawn points, the military bases and NWAF looking for action.  And the best thing is that, because DC is such a good player, we often win.

So what's actually been happening?  Sadly it’s another overly long, krazypenguin patented TLDR story (C)

The action starts as myself, DC and sprig are making our way round “cow corner”™ at the NWAF – so called because me and DC were once at NWAF and saw what we thought was a player but which turned out after 20 minutes of panicked crawling around in the forest to just be a herd of cows who promptly spooked and ran around that corner of the airfield giving away our presence, getting in the way and generally being annoying.  (However, the positive that came out of it was that we finally had a name for that part of the airfield that we both knew so there would be no more confusion about where we were or where enemies were.)  Myself and DC were, experienced DayZers as we both are, wearing camo (or at least green) gear, crouching, crawling and using bushes and trees for cover as we advanced.   Sprig however, was standing up whilst wearing a bright red motorcycle helmet.  He stopped next to me for maybe 2 seconds and, just as I was about to say “dude, at least lie down and get behind a flipping tree” I heard a silenced rifle round and a whump as sprig’s lifeless body dropped to the ground next to me.  I guess that’s a lesson he learned the hard way.

But myself and DC were still alive and, we suspected, unspotted.  DC quickly picked up the enemy sniper, sitting in the tower above the bunker just outside the entrance to the military tent end of the airfield.  We watched for a few seconds and our patience was rewarded as we spotted a second player with him.  Then the sniper came down and both players left the bunker, moving into the forest outside the airfield.  Myself and DC turned and ran to the wall at the back of our side of the airfield and then out into the stream bed following it to the West before turning North, hoping to go out wide enough to flank our attackers.  Lo and behold, a few minutes later, DC again spotted them amongst the trees “there’s a guy with a blue backpack ahead.”  “Where, I don’t see him?”  “He’s hiding in a tree dead ahead”  “I’ve lost you but I’ve got eyes on the blue backpack guy – taking a shot”  I put 3 shots into him for no effect – wtf?  Then DC shouts “I got him, head shot, he’s down!” only I can still see him standing there.  Confusion takes over – “I can still see the other guy up ahead, big blue backpack, hiding in a tree”  “No I got him, the other guy’s got a green talon pack…hang on”  More gunshots ring out “DC, wtf is going…”  “I got the other one, both are dead, over there”  I move up towards the blue backpack guy I can still see just standing there and…oh, it’s a blue barrel.  Ffs.  Whilst DC’s been taking on 2 enemies on his own, I’ve been shooting a flipping barrel.  We check their gear and take all their food since that’s all we need then bug out.  2-1 to us, I’ll take that.

Later, we reconnect with sprig and roam the fields of Chernarus.  DC’s picked up an Aug rifle which he absolutely loves, but is low on ammo, so our priority is running a chopper spawn route.   We’re a short way South West of Lopatino when sprig discovers some tents set up behind a house in a forest.  There’s not really anything worth taking, just a few low level rifles and pistols, but we take the opportunity to rest up next to a stream nearby.  As we lounge around next to the stream I realise that field next to us holds a chopper spawn so I move over to take a look – nada.  But in the distance, on the other edge of the field, sits a single, solitary house and I see movement.  “Player!  Across the field, outside the house!”  DC and sprig rush over whilst I try and get a better look through my Kashtan.  “Yeah, there’s someone there – he’s seen us for sure!  He’s crouching at the fence – yeah, he’s definitely seen us.  How do we want to play this?  Flank wide to the right, whilst I keep his attention?”  CRACK!  I’m hit and go unconscious.  Damn, that must have been a hell of a shot!  “I’m down – can you guys reach me?” I ask.  “No way man, your body’s fallen forwards up the slope and is exposed, sorry”  sprig starts flanking wide whilst DC holds position pinned down.  I can hear bullets thumping into the ground and cracking off trees.  “Who’s he shooting guys?” “You, lol”  Great…   I sit there helpless looking at the black screen with those damn white words.  I was healthy, energized and hydrated before I was hit so I‘m hoping I can wake up and get into cover before he hits me again…come on, get up, get up….

“I’m hit!  I’m dead!” yells DC.  “There’s another guy, behind us, he got me”  Feck, we’re the ones who got flanked…  10 seconds later, my white text updates and changes to “You are dead”.  sprig’s moved out wide and gone prone, not daring to move even an inch.  “Can you see the guy?  Can you get a shot?” we ask him.  “Yeah, I can see him, and his 3 mates” he replies.  Oh…  Now if it was DC still alive, I would still fancy his chances, but sprig’s more my level when it comes to fighting.  “Ok man, just try and stay hidden and stay alive – better to try and live and keep your gear rather than join us back on the beach.”  Sprig then spends the next 30 minutes trying and, thankfully ultimately, succeeding in avoiding detection.

A session or two later we all meet up, despite sprig’s questionable navigation skills (which included literally 30 minutes spent running only to end up exactly where he started as he kept turning and kept turning until he had simply performed a giant circle) at tent city the compound to the West of Myshkino.  Me and DC get geared up again and all three of us head South with the intention of performing a chopper spawn run starting in Zelenogorsk.  We’re in the forest West of Sosnovka a few minutes later when sprig has to go.  He disconnects and myself and DC carry on.  2 minutes later we’re both dead, gunned down by an assailant I never even get to see.  DC legs it to the nearby town but it turns out that again, it’s a large group of players, and surrounded on all sides he gets gunned down too.  “You know, sprig’s really gonna gloat when we speak next.  That’s twice we’ve both died and he’s lived.”  I say.  “Yeah…”  It’s also our second 0-2 loss in a row, which is annoying.

So another session or two, and certainly some not inconsiderable amount of gloating by sprig later,  we are, once again, geared up and back together and on a PVP run to the NWAF.  Sprig’s confident that once again it will be myself and DC who dies, but we remind him that the last time we came here it was him who died whilst we both got away unscathed.  We start at the NE corner, clearing 2 barrack buildings and start heading along the back of the hangars.  DC and sprig are up against the hangars, whilst I am hugging the wall – I figure a little separation isn’t a bad thing.  I’m also constantly scanning in all directions which turns out to be a good thing.  “Player to the rear!” I shout.  We all trun to face the threat, with DC and sprig freezing and crouching in some bushes behind a hangar, whilst I just drop and lie in the long grass next to the wall  “He just went into the barracks we were just in…ok, he’s outside in the treeline, crouching down”  Then he disappears “Where’d he go?” ask the guys “I think I still see him, I think he’s lying down, but I’m not sure… I think he’s there..”  BANG!  “I’m dead” says sprig “Contact rear, 2 geared players, 1 in a ghillie hood!”  As we’ve all been looking toward the barracks, 2 geared players have rounded the corner of the hangar, literally walked into sprig’s back and blown him away.  But they have seen me or DC.  “DC, he’s at the bush right next to you!  The other guy is going back around the hangar.  First guy is coming now”  There’s a hail of gunshots as the guy walks straight into the barrel of DC’s gun and dies instantly.  He probably never even saw him.  The benefit of separation becomes clear now as I’m able to spot for DC, allowing him to run around behind the ghillied player and take him out.  But in the melee we’ve lost track of the guy by the barracks.  “What do we do man?” with no control of the situation there’s only one option “Run!”  I cover DC from the wall as he runs towards me, then we both high tail it out of there into the forest behind the airfield.  We rearm and resupply and wait a minute for our nerves to recover after the brief but intense gunfight.  “How you getting on sprig?” I cheekily ask.  “Told you it would be you who dies!”  He’s not impressed  J

DC’s blood is up now and he wants more kills.  We make our way back to the wall and I immediately spot a player, probably the guy we saw at the barracks, looking around the corner of the barracks, with his back to us.  I call it out to DC but by the time he’s ready to take a shot the player has run into one of the other nearby buildings.  It doesn’t matter to DC.  He simply charges into the building and guns the guy down.  3-1 to us.  Time to bail.

Next session, myself and DC are once more hunting choppers, this time in the thin line of trees that runs East-West into the military base South East of Vybor.  Neither of us like that base in the slightest, but we’re just following a route South when DC spots something.  “There’s a spooked cow to our North – can you see anything?” he asks, since he knows that I always carry binoculars.  “I whip them out and, by pure chance, as soon as I raise them to my eyes I find myself looking at a player with a large green backpack.  “Player, green mountain backpack, running North to that industrial park just outside Vybor.”  We both up and run, sprinting flat out towards the buildings he was running towards.  DC gets there first and starts sweeping the area  but there’s no sign of him anyway.  “What do you think” he asks.  “Well, if he’s not here, he’s got to be heading towards NWAF, right?  So let’s go that way and see if we can catch up to him.”  We roll out into a field with some hay bales in it where we stop to allow me to quickly scan the distance with my binos.  It’s not luck that we both use the hay bales for cover and crouch down whilst I scan, it’s borne out of hours of experience and it pays off as a gun shot rings out.  “Player ahead” shouts DC but, once again, confusion takes over.  DC has spotted someone and run into a tiny little shack whilst I cannot see anyone at all.  “What’s going on?” I ask “He’s here!  He’s on me!!” screams DC and then a massive bang and burst of gunfire simultaneously shatter the silence.  “Dude, are you ok?” I ask “Yeah, I got him, he came in with a sawn-off but he missed me, lol”  I run over and stop short “This isn’t the guy we’re following, this is someone else!!” I shout, expecting to come under fire any second”  “Yeah, no worries, he’s over there – this guy got him just before we got here”.  We loot what we can and bail out once more.  Funny how a cow spooked by someone else led to this guy getting killed 5-10 minutes later.

One last story (I promise!) which left me slightly conflicted.  Myself and sprig are about a town and a half away from DC when the server restarts.  We rejoin and within 20 seconds I spot, and am spotted by, a player at very close range.  Without DC with us, I just don’t have a great deal of confidence, even in a 2 vs 1 fight so I tell sprig to just bug out.  We run out the other end of town and up the road.  DC’s been checking hunting towers so it still away off.  We meet up with him just beyond Rogovo, then turn around and head back to loot the town for food.  That’s when we see the player. Now I’m not 100% sure, but I’m 95% sure it’s the same guy me and sprig just met.  Of course, it could be pure coincidence, he only really had 2 choices out of the last town, head East or North and North is the better route, but he’s here now and we’re here now so….

He raises his gun initially, which is fair enough of course, but then I think the reality of his situation sets in, he puts his gun away, turns and runs.  Sprig’s up on some high ground at the top of the town and quickly loses track of him, whilst myself and DC are lower down and set off in pursuit.  I’m double carrying so am slowly losing ground, whilst DC is carrying a pistol and so running pretty much flat out.  The chase goes on for quite a few hundred metres as the guy just keeps running directly away, trying to use a line of bushes and trees along the side of the road as cover.  Sadly for him, although DC cannot see him, because he is running directly behind him and keeps getting his line of sight broken by all the foliage, I’ve swung off to the left (in anticipation of the guy turning left at an upcoming junction) so although I am further away I can see him clearly.  That’s how I can tell DC that he’s stopped in the bush about 3 in front of DC and is logging off.  He must think he’s clear but the reality is that as his character is in the process of sitting, standing, sitting for the 30 seconds necessary to really quit the server, DC puts a single 9mm round from his Glock 19 into the guy’s head.

Like I say, I’m conflicted by this.  He didn’t try to fight us, he just wanted to get away.  Maybe he wouldn’t have done the same in a 1 vs 1 but unless it’s an obvious KoS location I always feel bad about being part of killing a player that isn’t trying to fight.  I don’t know, maybe the old non-PVP feelings are still there.  When the forums came back up this morning I re-read a lot of my posts in this thread and I felt the desire to get into the game straight away and just start hunting (seen that animals are back and behaving correctly again) and cooking.  Maybe even try and get some leather gear made up again, or even learn how to farm since that’s about the only thing I’ve never tried.

Glad to be back, really missed reading these tales of survival.

Was heading east through the woods north of msta with 2 of my friends/squadmates, we were all decked out in full matching ttsko gear, plate carriers and blue armbands with some decent firepower.

I happened to glance off to my left and noticed a player about fifty yards down the hill flat out in the grass. We determined he was a lost freshie so we quickly  approached and detained him while checking to see if he was on our bandit list. He came up clean and we began talking. Turns out Dr Martin was RP'ing as well a good ol' English doc. We agreed to escort him south to msta so he could meet his friend.

One of our group broke off and set up overwatch while we brought the good doc into town. Turns out his friend had a highly coveted black M65 jacket so the sarge began to broker a trade. Things were slightly tense as I don't think this fellow really wanted to give up his jacket but three armed commandos might've been the bargaining chip for that deal.

I moved off into overwatch while everyone talked and searched through the town.  This is when I spotted another player entering town, he claimed to be cool and everyone resumed what they had been doing.

Our youngest member told us over TS that the doc had whispered to him that we needed to kill his friend. Here's where it all went bad. Caiden(the kid in our squad) ordered everyone to put their hands up and the two other guys bolted leaving the doc with his hands up.

The newcomer had drawn his rifle and kept peeking out from behind a fence, I said f' it and shot him in the neck with my sks. Some how he didn't drop and began to move when I put him down with a follow up shot.

More shots rang out. Our guys had the doc in a house and he confessed that his little amigo wasn't pleased with the trade and was planning on killing one of us in retaliation. He did have a magnum with ammo that we let him keep when we initially searched him. So there was a threat, I guess that guy took a few shots but we never found him. The doc was released and we pulled out.

Cool encounter, a little roleplay with a catch. Love these episodes.

I wouldn't feel conflicted about this.  He tried to combat log which has always been the chicken shit way out.  I would not have hesitated to cap him as well.  We normally like to give people the benefit of the doubt, but if they intend to combat log and you find them within that 30 seconds.. then I say FAIR GAME!

Good stories guys.

I did my first KoS since the early dayz tonight. I felt bad about it though so I apologized and left all the guys gear. He was climbing a chimney in Cherno with a scoped Whinnie on his back so probably up to no good but still......

I'm with BAM on this... but I understand your feelings. Right now I don't think DayZ is about playing the way you want to all the time, but more about playing the way you HAVE to. Leave too many loose ends out there and you end up regretting it in the end. Further to that- the guy (whoever he was) will have learned the lesson and maybe he'll approach the situation differently next time.

On a second note- I have to admit my entire DayZ experience collapsed when the forums went down. It just felt like the few of us in the Helpy Helpers were the only ones playing the game anymore against a bunch of bots. Missing out on seeing what everyone else was up to really affected my enthusiasm for the game... So I'm glad the forums are back up and looking forward to seeing what's been going on!

I haven't played SA DayZ in about a YEAR! Reading your story just now has made me want to get back into it big time! Thanks for the story, so awesome. Wish I'd have been there to witness this event! Cheers.
