sure 13-14 year old gamers aren't ideal in the slightest.  But we were all in the position. I first started Call of Duty and other games when I was around 14 on my Xbox.    You all are really over exaggerating the issue.   

 

Not that many young kids are PC gamers.  And most of them wouldn't play a relatively slow paced game like DayZ.

I guess I'm not super well known on the forums so maybe my opinion is moot, but I agree with you completely. Personally, I got Battlefield 4 for $48 through a certain gaming website I'll avoid advertising (although that's a pretty good deal in my opinion), yet I'll likely be buying DayZ Standalone as it comes out despite such a close release date to Battlefield 4. Honestly, most "casual" players have already lost interest after waiting a year with the dev team sharing such little information about the development process. And jacking the price up would be an absolutely moronic decision on their part, especially for the reasoning of "keeping casuals away". $60 for a game is ridiculous, I'd not have bought BF4 if I had to pay full price, really, $50 for a digital download game is ridiculous as well. Overkill got their pricing right with the recent release of Payday 2, now THAT'S a company that knows how to cater to PC Gamers. Take notes, Dev Team. I'd also hope to see at least a mild discount for those who purchase the early release, after this long in development I'm sure a lot of people have mixed opinions on what the final product will look like, reward those who show faith and loyalty through purchasing before the product is complete.

I upvoted his comment, and I'm not underaged. To be honest, this is the most elitist and immature thing you could have posted. You should be absolutely ashamed to have even typed this into a forum post, and the sad thing is that you weren't even intelligent enough to edit your post, you just doubleposted. Call of Duty wasn't released long ago on the Xbox? What the hell are you even going on about? Call of Duty was a great series up to Call of Duty 4, I can't stand when people bandwagon on and talk about how they hate Call of Duty just because that's what the rest of the internet says. Frankly, Call of Duty 3 was released only on consoles (including the Xbox), and that game was released before Call of Duty became a "kids series". Think before you post.

You must be trolling me.  My first online game was Modern Warfare 2 on the Xbox 360 (which is just about 4 years ago).  I was 14 then.  I am 18 now.  I am pretty fucking sure I am an adult.  Can you count?I have no idea what your standards are for a mature player but I damn sure that I am not the cancer most players want gone.  I am actually offended.  On my forum profile my age is posted.  When I was seventeen last year, my age was posted also.  

 

 

I have met plenty of people online in Arma 2 and made some friends too and most everyone is a good person to play a game with.  Of course you get the odd guys, but generally they are few and far between.

Flaming and arguments aside, the small Steam info leak (if you can call it that) is promising considering how little actual info the Devs are giving us. The "Standalone Server" is debatable I guess, considering it may not even be legitimate, but again, with how little we actual know I'm sure we're all hoping that this all adds up to some evidence of a soon-to-be early access release.

No, just no, it isn’t the point of view of a business, I am not a business major, neither do I perceive things in a business manner, I did politics and IR and uni but am definitely more from the artistic background, my dad being photographer and having pieces bought up by the national gallery and my whole family being very “artsy” if you want it to be put crudely. Trust me if there is someone who knows about the value of artistic passion and hard work its me. How do you think my dad who took very mediocre subject material in his pictures and turned them into award winning photos and trends. It was something new, it was exciting, and he did something other people hadn’t thought of before. Art isn’t just about hard work its about ideas. Ideas make art and if someone does the same thing,….

It will be a great game in my eyes no matter the timeline, but it’s a cold hard fact that if he doesn’t get a wiggle on it wont be as successful as it could have been, and it will not be considered a great game ( by the general gaming populace) if people beat him to it. The majority of gamers are fickle young people who couldn’t give a shit about what went into making a game, as long as its fun, unfortunate but rather true. Don’t think rocket is the only person who can do this, there are plenty of talented people out there who could rip this off and probably do it even better than he could. That isn’t the point of view of a business but its my concern that if this game fails financially rocket and his team will have put all this effort into something which only a small proportion of people will admire and appreciate, ie a few hundred, maybe thousand people on the forums and reddit. Maybe that’s what he prefers, or maybe he would like to pursue other project like this further down the line? Unless its “successful” he wont. Game companies wont invest in projects that wont offer a return. I know shit all about business but I know that much at least.

Also to say “I’m not pissed off therefore everyone else isn’t” is a rather naïve statement and it’s the typical response I have seen so often on game forums, and quite frankely makes me want to throw you out of a window. You are ignoring the amount of abuse rocket had drummed up for himself in the last few months, through his slew of broken promises. Hell maybe it bounces off you but it hasn’t on a lot of others, and news flash…you are not everyone. Its such a generic response, assuming that you somehow speak for the entire gaming populace. I am not saying everyone is pissed off but there are a lot of people who feel annoyed with rocket, and not matter the end product, probably wont end up buying it because of his inability to run a project or communicate to his fan base. I actually try and look at things from both sides rather than my own. I love the game, and I am actually purposefully holding out on buying any zombie related survival games to play dayz, because I know if I do, I wont be bothered. But I am also acutely aware of the sloppy approach rocket and BI have had in communicating to the gaming population. Also the fact there are multiple studios looking to do the same thing. Equally as passionate people working on projects like the dead linger. Putting in the same amount of effort and passion with cool features and attention to detail.

I don't disagree with you. I think it's just fatigue caused by the "industry" right now. I'm not interested in big titles or quality of trailers; I'm interested in fresh ideas and developers not afraid of making niche games that will piss people off because they are not what they are used to. Again: don't disagree with your points. But there are so many posts around here arguing how to best sell the game or include as many demographics as possible which is a big turnoff for me.

I also think it's sad if people are genuinely pissed off at rocket when Gearbox, EA and lots others who really screws consumers over are out there. I'd rather have a Dean who's enthusiastic and doing his thing than someone who handles PR perfectly. Also note my smiley. No need to throw me out a window because of a discussion.
