Exp Update: 0.60.+++

BI is not EA, you know? BI is a developer studio from Praque, Czech Republic. AND its called experimental for a reason. Stable servers out there are not hosted by BI. Experimentals are. Do you have an idea, what traffic costs? So be patient and spam the login button until you get a chance to "test".

This patch is nice.  Mostly inventory bugs left from what I can see.  Still some bad desynch too.

Found this thing at NWAF tents:

?interpolation=lanczos-none&output-forma

If you squint really hard, you can see it.

Now, I have complained earlier but at the moment I have no problems at all with getting in. I love this patch and it still amazes me that loot or attachment actually spawns on/in other loot.

By the way, I need a test subject with the exact clothing as me to take a shot to the chest to see if it crashes you.

Oh and another thing, is it normal that M4's pop-up a lot? I thought there was a timer on it but I kinda like it to run with a M4.

I got into a server with Dudester, GaryWalnuts, and IMT, almost as soon as the update finished.

Mostly our session was uninterrupted.

I found myself in Myshkino tent city and Gary met me there. After looting for a while, Gary caught sight of a random player so we ran into the woods. We tried to get eyes on the player from a hill but did not. He then shot Gary from an unseen position. I heard shots bounce nearby, and we both took off running in different directions.

After going South for sometime I found myself at Kamenka.

It was about this time that IMT and Dudester got ambushed near the new shooting range. IMT's client seemed to crash (but he thought he died) when he got shot, and Dudester got shot and killed but managed to hit the guy. When he respawned he found himself near Cherno so I worked my way East to meet him there. IMT rejoined the game right where he was shot but wasnt bleeding. He then caught sight of the guy who had shot him and landed a shot which either killed him or crashed his opponents client.

Gary returned from a break just in time to meet IMT, and I escorted Dudester up towards them as I needed to log out soon. As we neared Green Mountain Dudester spotted a player so we watched and it turned out to be 2 players, running away from us. Clearing that town to the North around Green Mountain Gary exclaimed that he saw a smoking heli crash and in a matter of minutes after that all 4 of us were picking over the crash which had 4 FAL's, a UMP, a few CMAG's, and a few pieces of clothing.

Here is where I needed to log out, hopefully I'll jump on again later.

I really want to know if I killed him or he crashed, maybe both. But if Dudester100 hit him then he must have been killed by me for sure. No one can survive a .308 Winchester Round and a 5.56x45mm to the chest. To be honest, the .308 is an instant kill on itself in the chest normally.

I picked up a stack of loose .22 ammo yesterday and it was labeled as pristine. I was splitting it up and one of the stacks showed as a worn condition.  I decided to take a closer look and split it all down to single rounds. Out of 37 bullets, 8 were in worn condition and the rest pristine. If I had recorded it I would have submitted it as a bug but I didnt think about it until it was done.  I will try it with other ammo later tonight when I get logged in.

So to recap: A pristine stack of bullets may not all be pristine.

That is most likely not a bug but a feature.

I got some really nice quality time with 0.60, a little over an hour and here are some things:

- My quality time ended after I made the silly mistake of throwing a torch and getting my hands slot frozen. (I should have anticipated that)
- Not noticing any animals except for chickens.

Oh... and can one make improvised rope anymore? Or have I just forgotten how to do it?

If you press F2 (putting your hands up) it will automatically unbug your hands and you will be good to go. I have seen multiple deers around the center of the map. And the recipe for an Improvised Rope is 2 stacks of 6 Rags.

Was resin in the game before? I went to a tree, a darker one without leaves and there came the option search for resin or something similar. I tried it out but nothing was added to inv. And I couldn't repeat searching.

In past experimental releases, there a ton of DayZ US servers to play on.   I remember there being be like several Southwest servers, mostly 1st/3rd and two 1st only.   I just read Brain's new post about Twitter comments and this Experimental release, but I didn't see anything about why there were so few Experimental servers.   Did anyone catch a post or Tweet somewhere mentioning why this was so?

A lot of the US servers, both Australian servers and both Signapore are down. Because the server admins in that region is probably sleeping or not available the servers are down for now.

I can't believe youtubers get a own server while I and many others can't play at all.

0.60 is broken for me, I can not join a single server nor does anything else work, in fact. And I've not tried it only one time or something. I sat hours in front of the "connection failed" screen.

I play this shit since the mod and I've always been supportive but fuck this shit and fuck the devs.

VVarhead, everyone is trying to join like ten servers. Hundreds and thousands of players joining servers with slots enough for like 600 of them right now. Of course it's hard to get in.

But yeah, keep complaining and just throw some insults at the devs that have been working extremely hard to get us to this point. Go play some H1Z1 or whatever and come back when Beta is ready... some people just don't get it...

It's not even about me not being able to play, it's about being two-faced in ways of communicating with the community as of late.

I've been here since the very beginning and I'm sure you're long enough here that you noticed something about the communication between community and devs has changed.

The community built this game, it was a fucking mod not so long ago, and now they're fucking handing out servers to some homoerotic youtubers while experimental is practically unplayable for most of the "normal" people who are not shilling the game on youtube.

I hope you get what I mean, I'm satisfied with the process of the development, but not so satisfied with the decisions that have been made.

I've been on the forums for the past three years (Just changed my name after the move to the new forums) so yeah, I've been around, and yes, I kinda get your frustration in this matter... It would be nice if you could keep the F-Bombs down though ^^

Trust me, I don't think that the "Streamer Server" is much of a perk, that was discussed about... 4 or five pages ago I think. They're not "handing out servers". It's a business decision, and I get it but I am not overly worried.

Anyway, like I said, I understand your frustration, and yes, communication has changed quite a bit, but right now it is what it is. For now, let's take a deep breath and get through this first iteration of the new renderer. Things will change for the better, that much I believe. It's all a matter of patience and I know it can run thin sometimes.

I'm not sure why you'd be upset about a streamer server. Even if that server were opened to the "public" that would only be a few more spots and spots that would be far less efficiently used for the good of the game.

Analysis of Hicks BS, srsly ive been defending this game for years, been playing since Arma 2 mod, i can live with all the crap, glitches, bugs, delays, etc, but at least let us play. :

Why won’t you just push 0.60 to stable now? / It has to be better than 0.59:

Well, simply put we just can’t do that. There are quite a few issues that would flat out prevent a large amount of the userbase from playing DayZ at all. From the ever present “Application Error” to black screens on launch, server crashes, and many more – The build *has* to stay on experimental so we can get it to a state that allows the vast majority of the DayZ playerbase to play and test it on stable branch.

Lets not forget that all branches of DayZ Early Access are testing branches! The testing base and goals scale up from our Internal QA, to Experimental Branch, and finally to the Stable branch as the default build you play when you install DayZ on Steam. I know it is not the popular thing to say, and the less fun part of my job involves having to take the brunt of passing on bad news – but your patience, participation, and feedback is and will help us get this build to stable as soon as possible.

I understand, but we've seen much much worse iteration of stable over the years, at that point, i would take it over not being able to play

Why are the experimental servers down in my region? / Why aren’t the devs saying anything about the server being down in my area?:

Keep in mind the DayZ Dev Team operates out of Central Europe, and depending on where you are in the world there is a high chance the developers are in bed / haven’t had time yet to analyze the issues causing the outage. Time Zone differences can be confusing, trust us we know! Pair that with the fact that server availability, distance from the Prague offices, and latency can fluctuate greatly depending where you are in the world – and it can and will lead to server downtimes in your region. A good example of this is the Oceanic and Asia regions – of which we’ve been fighting server issues and connection speeds throughout experimental branch usage. So please, be patient with us – we haven’t forgotten anyone and will get the servers up as soon as time, and process allows. As well, sending tweets out every time a server crashes or goes offline due to a bug or server hardware issue isn’t practical given how frequent this can happen on the experimental/unstable branch.

MOAR SERVERS

Why aren’t there more player slots? / Lots of people want to play, let us all play:

The experimental branch testing phase is *not* set up to ensure availability and accessibility to all. Besides it not being practical on an infrastructure point, the nature of how we use experimental branch means we need to be able to create false stress situations for the game server instances, the central hive, and in some cases even the server hardware. Now, as experimental branch testing moves forward on any given build we slowly increase the player slots for that branch whenever possible. Be it actual game server instances slots, or allocating additional hardware when possible. Simply put, especially at the initial stages of a build being on experimental branch, we *need* to see how the build operates under extreme demand, we need to see it fail, and we need to analyze that data and make changes where necessary. That said, we are looking into increasing the branch player capacity within reason. Don’t expect several thousands more player count capacity, as that is what stable branch is for – but we recognize the demand and are doing everything we can to help alleviate the issue.

Way to lose your loyal fanbase wich is 99% BORED with 0.59, even if u want to crash your servers, you could have 20 more, they would still be all full but at least you would allow more chance to actually play and not aggravate your fan base. How do you expect bugs to be reported if you don't have enough ppl to test it.

Why are streamers given special treatment? / I should be able to play there too:

Early on after the first build of 0.60 was pushed to experimental I realized we just didn’t have the infrastructure or hardware available to let everyone who wanted to see 0.60 on experimental branch that wanted to, and we wouldn’t be able to flex up to accept all of the demand. Realizing this, at the end of the work day a development box that I use to capture footage for our Youtube Channel, and bug bash internal development builds was taken offline and converted to point to the experimental branch in the hopes that we could at least through allowing content creators to showcase the build let those who couldn’t get onto an experimental branch server *see* how 0.60 was operating, performing, and moving along. The hardware used was not powerful enough to actually operate an actual experimental branch server, and would for certain buckle under the demand, but through reallocating this one small instance we could at least provide 30 or so content creators from across the globe, and across multiple languages give thousands more people a look at how things were looking on the march towards 0.60 stable branch. Creators of all audience sizes, and regions across the globe were given access to the box and asked to use said access to help alleviate the stressed demand on experimental branch by sharing their experiences on their distribution methods (Youtube, Twitch, Twitter). Through this method we were able to allow thousands of additional people to see and experience 0.60 experimental branch that we would not have been able to otherwise.

Some people seem to think that experimental server resources were diverted to allow content creators access to 0.60, or player slots that could have been used for general experimental branch usage were given to these users. Simply put that is not the case, as mentioned before the server utilized was my personal work box and would not be able to handle such a demand. This was easily demonstrated earlier this morning when some enterprising folks acquired and distributed the IP address to this PC and the game server rapidly failed and stopped operating for several hours.
No one was being denied playable server slots on experimental, and while we did ask content creators to be discrete so as to not compound the issue with experimental branch being at capacity that plan upset a small portion of the community, and for that I am sorry. It was never my intention to make anyone feel less important than anyone else in the community, the intent was explicitly to allow as many people as possible to at least *see* 0.60 experimental.

I don't want to WATCH dayz i want to PLAY DAYZ

Why don’t you just take stable servers offline and convert them? / No one is using stable servers, switch them over:

While it may seem that way to some users, DayZ has an active player base of several hundred thousand that cycle in and out (call it turnstile if you will) and it is important that we not just switch off game servers that users call home. We already fight issues with this in the case of some stable branch official servers, you may have seen it visible in forum posts asking where a specific official branch server that went offline was, and how users could get their camps, vehicles, etc back. As we move forward with development and push changes such as the final redesign of our server browser out, increasing visibility and thus reliability in these stable branch servers becomes even more paramount. For a game that is effectively a service in some definitions, like DayZ can be, we need to provide a certain amount of stability and reliability with the official DayZ servers. Switching them off and converting them to experimental branch due to a short term increase in demand is – in short, as I like to call it – “A bandaid on a broken leg”.

We all recognize that as we continue to move forward with major engine updates to Enfusion/DayZ demand will likely increase on this branch, and while we still have to keep the experimental branch within a certain limited capacity compared to stable branch, we *are* working on being able to increase (flex) experimental branch player slots to try and alleviate the demand as best we can with resources that do not compromise the integrity of stable branch official servers.

SRSLY???? go see on stable there's like 50 official servers wich are EMPTY 24/7!!!! BS

It's a me, if I read this correctly you seem to not understand a single thing that was said in this quick interview. Your responses to what Hicks is trying to make you understand point in the direction "I read all of this, didn't understand half of it so I'm gonna sit here and bawl."

I do not mean to be insulting or anything, but if I read this correctly with your responses, you do not understand a single thing that Hicks is explaining. He is giving you a TON of reasons why certain things are the way they are but apparently you have a very selective kind of reading. (e.g. I don't like what he is saying so I'm gonna sit here and try to complain as much as I can on the forums, maybe the whining is gonna help!!!)

Wow...

Is it just me or have the 3rd person and 1st person hives just switched with each other? When GaryWalnuts and I logged on we both had our 3rd person character on a 1st person server/hive.

Don't get me wrong, i do understand what he's trying to achieve by explaining all of this, i just find that not much effort is put on their side to fix the situation. There are a lot of halfway situation that could be put in place. For instance, i'm down with him with the fact that a lot of ppl still want to play stable, i'm not against the fact that he doesn't want to convert all the server, he could still at least convert a couple of them and help to keep players motivated towards his game.

i also understand what he wants to achieve by allowing first dibs to streamers, but this means that some1 who has played countless hours like 2-3k but never was into streaming is now pissed on,

i'm not disagreeing with all that he said, it's just a rage post from a loyal fan.

After 3 days of the situation being like that, i just find that more "in-between" efforts should have been made.

The more exp servers they have, the more people who clearly don't want to understand what exp/unstable means, creating noise and drowning out those who are actually trying to report bugs, etc. The signal to noise ratio would be ridiculous and likely counter-productive for them at this juncture (mere days into a long-awaited exp branch with a ton of impatient folks who have been waiting for it).

Half way situations don't matter in experimental. This renderer plus all the new things are MAJOR upgrades. Right now, the Devs have their priority in stress testing, bug finding and fixing. The players are NOT the priority in experimental, the TESTING is. I know it's hard to understand but priorities are completely different when it comes to experimental.

I am not even going into this "streamer server" thing again, it was meant so that a wide base of people could at least LOOK at it, if that's not enough for some, I understand completely.

But exactly, it has ONLY BEEN THREE DAYS! Wait for a week, let the "new build smell" wear off, hang in there.

Edit: And see, if you don't rage as much we can actually have a pretty neat discussion :)

patience is the key, little padawan.

i played every day since the update, today with two acc on one server (one of my daughter) to transfer items.

Yes, its frustrating but it took me longest 30 minutes to get an slot.

press enter over and over and you will be able to play.

AND in my opinion, this patch is NOT ready for stable, i don´t want that shitstorm again that happens with .54?

EDIT: about communication with the com, the devs learned their lesson and do it right, no need to feed the hypetrain aka "next update will be finished tomorrow"...and then waiting 14 days to get it.

that is right, although some ppl want to play and report bugs and be part of developpment but are not allowed to. on the 500 or so available slots right now, there is no garanty that ppl will report, my thinking on that is the more ppl that play the more chance you have to have stuff reported.

but you reach a point of diminishing returns at a point. how many people you need reporting bugs vs. resources allocated to read and address reported bugs vs. increasing number of non-reporters/casual players who expect a stable product that will come with increasing player count.

i'm agreeing with you on that, and i totally get the streamers thing, i'm not even challenging it, but this is pc gaming. ppl have a zillion different possible configuration, you need to have a certain mass of ppl playing to ensure that bugs that are more specific are being found. let's be honest tho, this whole thing is an alpha, and they need massive amount of ppl to test different scenario, i totally get the exp branch pov, although, let's imagine that there's none and everything gets pushed directly to stable, ppl have no right to complain that there are bugs. this is the source of the problem. ppl play stable thinking that it is a finished game and complaining, causing the need to have that exp situation.,
