DayZ moving to new engine - ENFUSION

Recommended Posts

So i found this in reddit, by Hicks:

http://www.reddit.com/r/dayz/comments/27umee/before_everyone_loses_their_collective_shit_omg/ci4mpsj?context=1

When DayZ started - we took the source from the existing RV Engine - Over the last many months, extensive clean up, new functionality, and so forth has been created for that engine - while at the same time, vast amounts of it were removed, or rewritten entirely. The changes Dean spoke of entail major leaps forward in that work, with those changes and the many more that will come through out development - we have begun to approach the point in which DayZ's engine is so no longer recognizable as RV, and because of that - and the massive work to come, it is now known by its own name, Infusion.

So its not a "new engine", they have basicly modified the existing RV engine so much, and plan to modify it more in the future, so it has been given its own name.

Its just Rocket, who has no idea how to explain things like this, and tend to go abit over board with his statements, perhaps trying to create more hype??

We already have the new engine, Infusion is powering DayZ as we speak and it will change alot more down the road.

Just dont expect to wake up one morning and see DayZ has scrapped everything and started over, thats now what this is about :)

We already have the foundation of the "Infusion Engine" layed out (pretty much), now they just need to build the sky scrapper on it hehe.

Not really. Without proper pathfinding AI would walk through walls in most games...

I'm not 100% sure about the lighting, but I think that's fixable as it doesn't seem to be an issue in Arma 3.

Nar its not,it was said earlier about that.

There was a post about it before..

The light  or torch light was always going to be a problem with the game unless they changed it im glad they have.

As to Z walking through walls, this could be fixed, its the same issue as with glitchers with 3rd person..

If they are solid they cant do it just like Z wouldnt be able to walk into walls under floors but hey thats another story...

Q: When are you looking at getting the new engine into experimental and then pushed out to stable.

Rocket: It will kind of come in a modular fashion over time.

......Brilliant, no date or even rough estimate given as usual

it is a bad idea to say "ist implemented 24.12.2014" and then it is moved to a later date.the outcry of the Internet game development specialists whould be tremendous....its exactly the right wording.

Only new important thing lately was fireplaces and cooking. Hey dude, I love dayz, and I play SA, Mod and Breakingpoint. Its just we dont actualy SEE any progress devs make. At leat not yet. We dont see navmesh/pahfinding (maybe done already), we dont see 64-bit servers (internaly tested), persistent objects (not yet here), maybe they done some basic vehicle phisycs but we dont know anything about that. New rendering engine? Not yet. When we see more of that on stabile branch. What about new zombie/animal beavior? When we get 4 out 5 of those we can judge.

btw, I play only on 0.45 EXP since it was released

There has been lots of things done, some you see and some you don't. "some new hats and maybe some new guns" is a load of bollocks and you know it.

I have to disagree, as a designer I always have to follow strict deadlines and Day Z team made a dev roadmap earlier in the year which showed their date estimates and targets. They must have dates they aim for and schedule work, though I am aware projects can take longer and problems occur. For me personally it is really great if they could put a month next to when each thing is coming so I can plan  my gaming time and work schedule accordingly, And also it is when these major changes occur to 1/ zombie pathfinding and 2/persistant items that many players will want to play and communities will be informed. It really does help the community to know when we can expect said updates having shown our support by donating to this alpha I would expect them to state dates as to when I can expect the full game to be delivered as promised, and paid for!

(approximately, with warnings of been late)

Six months of "new hats and new guns" ha ha. Even devs have realised new engine is needed, fanboys haven't. Give it two months dayz will be ahead then it is now.

Rocket doesn't need to give dates but they should have set deadlines already. If they aren't able to meet their own deadlines then they should probably set better ones.

will the new engine make the game run on a good framerate?

i dont give a **** about lighting to be honest. While good lighting may increase immersion, bad framerate pushes it down to almost zero.

didnt play in a little while tho so this may be an arrogant statement...

Welp...sometimes i wish the SA whould have had a higher entry Price to Keep People like yourself away from it. I for one like to read what they posted. Also...whats with the "fanboy" Obsession ?

I saw several games delayed, pushed to later Dates , Milestones missed ect. ist not especialy something unquie in Gamedevelopment.

BUT for some reason the entitlement whiney crowd allways finds something to whine about...even if its stated several times they work on Fixing Z´s some troll or ilitterate will open another Topic on how bad Z´s are...

I'm hoping that they will be able to increase system utilisation using whatever goodies they have at their disposal here, yes. As always - it depends on your specs though... If you're running a Pentium and a GT 400 series card then I wouldn't get your hopes up, if you're running a fairly modern system then you should see some improvements during the coming months.

In basic terms they're planning to modify the engine to the point that they feel that calling it the RV (or ArmA 2) engine just wouldn't be right any more. It will be called the Infusion engine, a reference to how it's using the RV engine but will be infused with many other elements that make it unique.

That's my take on it. Infusion..'infusing' new elements in, ripping shitty old chunks out.

Maybe they're "infusing" it with zeds and bug fixes!

The engine is a tool, it enables the developers to create the experience they want the player to have. Trying to wrestle with an engine that's dated or that wasn't designed for the types of things you're trying to do is kinda like having a small car and deciding you want to go camping and off roading - by the time you reinforce the frame, add a trailer hitch, jack it up and add bigger tires on top of everything else that might be needed it might be better to start with something that was made for off roading and hauling a trailer in the first place. It seems as though that decision was made with Infusion. It's nice to see the direction more clearly, but this brings up questions in my mind such as will this slow/halt various other updates that were coming in the game while the new engine is being worked on and integrated?
