i think by now Dean understood he messed up so much and isnt any more realated with releasing information until release.

he lets people like Ivan take it, who we have nothing against.

If Rocket keeps up with this silence and nobody knows shit, and keeps delaying the standalone every single one of us will be here eventually.

Just to make sure. This is a madhouse.

you can also like justin bieber and miley cyrus if u like to. i dont mind.

it was just my explanation for why Dean went silent again. he is talking without thinking and has low PR-skills. we would have been better off if the SA-developement was announced a year ago without giving Dean that much space in public. it was a management failure. but its done. not worth discussing.

Since Rocket's PR skills, good or bad as they may be, doesn't affect the quality of the game they are completely irrelevant.

I think you should go tell that to Dean's face and watch him make a restraining order on you after he's used his military training on your face :P

David Braben and Elite Dangerous  do it so well communicating in Dev Diaries, pictures and newsletters. They are working  probably more and to a tighter schedule and yet pull it off. Its one thing to say it slows down the release but we all know that’s crap and just an excuse. I don’t want a early release as it suits me to get a better game given more time but as for communication Dean lets himself and the whole team down and he knows it.

If he came on and said “Listen we have been working hard but there is not a lot if anything news worthy just now” It at the very least keeps us in the loop and keep the community feeling its involved.

Shutting down the hatches or going Dive, Dive, Dive to simply disappear is not the way to do it. I Appreciate when he started it was just going to be a mod and a fun thing to do that has progressed to something that could be a defining game of all time.

When did the PR of a game become mentioned in the same thread of legitimacy as whether or not the game itself will be good?

I remember when "hype" was only used to promote boxing matches! It wasn't used as some sort of vague qualifier (used by imbeciles) for whether or not a game will be good or not. If the developers "hype" their game up, people will say "Oh my god! This game was all hype and didn't deliver". If the developers are silent, people will say that "Why aren't we getting information? This game is going to fall flat because nobody cares about it". What bearing, in all honesty, does the information we receive PRIOR to release have on the quality of the game or the release itself? I'll answer that, none.

Yeah, it's a bummer that we're not receiving a ton of information at this particular juncture. Yes, other developers communicate with their community. They also let down their community as well, just like everyone else. So what? People place ENTIRELY too much importance on pre-release information.

And, surprise, it's not like we don't know what we're getting. We've had a year's worth of information and a relatively consistent level of contact with the developers. Remember the devblogs? Those exist and are still there for your viewing/reading pleasure! Remember the treasure trove of information provided by Rocket on Reddit (which, for the record, only really petered out a month ago)? Remember that whole DayZDaily thing that we're posting on a thread about? That still exists...

Shutting down the hatches or going Dive, Dive, Dive to simply disappear is not the way to do it.

Not the way to do what exactly? What difference does it make to the actual game? All it does is feed YOUR need for information. If a good game is what your most interested in then all you have to do is wait. Play some other games until its released or something because knowing every single thing the devs are doing won't actually make any difference to the game.

October round-up

18th October

  • /r/dayzbulletin Interview part 2 with Ivan Buchta and his team on DayZ map design.

Still no address to the potential lack of "wilderness" in the game (specifically in the north) now that they're putting settlements up there.

Does Dean still visit these forums?

Hate to say it, but when Rocket fucked up with the Christmas release he went to ground then, he literally hid for a month, nothing on Reddit, Twitter, Facebook or here. After the Month he comes on and says yadda yadda yadda, that said the game will be better off for not being released with the old type Engine. But his PR Skills are that of a Pencil, he's good at spruiking his Product at trade Shows but always tries to over accomodate others.  Interviewing Nerd from Gamersdelight ( made up ) " Rocket will the DayZ Stand Alone allow me to Space Travel, building Space Stations throughout the Universe"  Rocket replies " Not in the first release, but certinally something we are looking at down the Track "

He is answering to a Company whether people here believe it or not. He doesnt have the luxury of sitting back doing what he chooses. They have a big Team now and clearly individuals in that Team have now formed a Time Frame Structure to which they all work to. Dean not talking ie being on here is a good thing in my eyes, he's not good at it anyway . If you've ever owned a Company or been a Manager you'll understand that you feel a responsibility to your Employees so he may feel that he needs to work harder or just as hard as they are.

As for information being released it would only take the Coffee boy a minute of his time to put a random Pic up every Week or Two Days, would no doubt appease most.

Once the Game is released I'll more than likely never be in these Forums again. But remember to those saying that people shouldnt demand regular Information, You , these people, me , we are the ones that promote this game on our Websites, Videos, Blogs, Streams , Facebook, hell even talking face to face with people down the Pub, they didnt advertise the Mod, it became popular due to YOU, ( ohh and the fact it was damn fun at the time) .

You, Us, We, make or break a Game in the End
