Rain will be the new night?

Recommended Posts

The absolutely greatest part of players avoids to play in the dark as seen by player distribution across servers with certain times.

When rain, i.e. water on your body, will have effect on the health of players, will players avoid servers where it is currently raining? In fact, nobody turns on the computer or DayZ to watch his character sitting under a tree or in a shelter for 30 or somewhat minutes until the rain has gone.

Certainly I don't want DayZ to become a stupid Call-of-Battlefield-kiddy game, but it also doesn't need to turn into a body functions simulator.

DayZ also lives on roaming the great distances and rural/natural areas in Chernarus. When rain eventually will have a negative effect on your character, you are nailed down in rain safe spot. There might be a lot of "server hopping" then (at login) to find a dry server as it used to be for night time before servers were marked with the current ingame time.

It's an interesting point. Provided servers do not have the option to turn off weather effects, I don't think players will bother, as they could be playing for 10 minutes on one server, log off to avoid rain and then get rained on some more on the next server.

The only reason I personally avoid night servers is the light clipping through walls and the gamma exploits, the minute that's fixed with this (not so new) new engine I'll be on them just as much as day servers.

If people are going to avoid servers due to rain then I think that's a little pathetic.

If the rain slows players down thats FINE. let them server hop. It wont effect me or anyone else that is playing this game for the survival aspect. If it slows pvp down than i approve.

Exactly. If rain helps weed out deathmatchers then this game mechanic is pure win, IMO.

Personally, I will only play SA seriously when we'll get private hives without alll the bullshit of server hopping etc. When the choice is: playing in the night/rain or not playing at all suddenly people will start looking for light sources and raincoats instead os switching servers.

Adapt mother f*&^%'s! Have you tried it yet? It really isn't that hard to adapt to - In-fact it is fun (IMO)! Yes, a big part of DayZ does consist of roaming great distances, so it is logical (once again IMO) to make this unavoidably key aspect of the game interactive and interesting! This is why weather effecting the player is an excellent addition to the game - it will give a pause for thought and give you reason to plan your expeditions, as well as giving items other than guns much more value.

I know for some people this is simply a barrier between them and shooting people - and to some degree they are right, but I think it is more about making the environment an antagonist, one which can never be defeated only adapted to... this is great IMO.

I love this feature and brings so much more to realism, however I feel, persistent loot and storage should be top priority. The reason is, it's hard to try all the features as it is atm, trying to balances food and and water plus ammo and weapons. And now carrying dry spare clothes as well.

Yeah I agree, I've never been able to test out the persistent storage due to the server I put my tent on has been stuck in that never-ending restart loop bug thing and never been able to go back and see if it's still there or not and that was on the first day of the patch release.

Players will death match regardless, they will complain, then game this system in record time and continue without a second glance.

In reality you have rain capes that fold into your backpack consuming hardly space and that can be worn over your normal clothes. And coats and jackets whose zip can opened to regulate temperature and moisture. In DayZ currently you have to take off your whole jacket with all its items in it. In DayZ you can do the same... but... shit you know what I mean. Hopefully they don't turn it into a clothing management simulator.

If weather impacts on your health, that would be cool. Imagine if it freezes and we have to make fire spots to keep us warm. Snow paints the fields in white. Nighttime snow drop and moon light. That would be great. Player would start to value more items than their AKM. You wouldn't be killed over a weapon, but over your matches and other things that matter in a survival game. I would play even if it rains, snows or what ever. Nighttime is a little problem because of the gamma exploit, but I hope it will be fixed in the future.

It only seems reasonable that if they implement weather effects upon the player, that there will be ways to combat the problem ei ponchos , raincoats, fires in building to dry clothes. Besides, you don't just get wet and die. Keep moving and technically you should be fine. Thats at least what my experience in the sub-antarctic has taught me. Human beings are surprisingly hardy animals.

OK both of you have mentioned "if" the weather etc... on the current experimental build this is already functioning and trust me its not hard to manage but it has absolutely changed the way I approach the game overall - experimental and stable are not just two versions of the same game anymore they are almost different games entirely thanks to the environment becoming deadly. if the new environmental effects do not change your opening moves.... I can't even finish that because it will change your opening moves or you will not survive.

having said all that, after several hours of getting healthy enough to ignore most of the environmental effect I realized I wasn't even thinking about other players.

Oh no i can carry 1 less ammo box with 300 rounds i most likely never have time to shoot and have to carry a rain coat. Well bugger me thats hard now isnt it, fuck the WHOLE game is ruined now whahhh whahhh .. This sort of shit and from people who most likely havent tried the experiemental  patch because its really not that big of a deal hardly effects you really(get cold need to eat more food get real cold you may have to stop and make a fire but seeing you wont be playing it at night it wont get that bad.

If you seriously consider jumping server to avoid the rain just stop playing now (this is some of the most absurd rubbish i have read in these forums)

Edit why isnt there a rotten kiwi fruit button aswell as a give beans one cause trust me i am mentally throwing rotten kiwi fruit at some of the people in this thread ( my 2 year old has more grit than some of the whinning little twats in this thread..

There should be a way to avoid nighttime - choosing another server. However, every server should have a 24 hour cycle - but the owner might choose the start time and cycle speed upon server registration. Weather should be random and it should -  of course - not be shown in the server browser.

As server hopping should get a significant cost anyways switching servers until you find a dry one may just be the same as switching servers until you found a full set of military gear - bullshit that should be discouraged. Time should be shown as people choose their time of activity in real life as well - its realistic to have more players joining a server during daytime. But because of this having nighttime on every server would improve the game by adding some natural dynamics.

This is so often the way of things. People request features, then in reality when the features are in place, players go out of their way to avoid these elements.

I play a lot of racing sims, and one sim which was released years ago didn't have rain or weather. For the next title the community begged to have rain included, the devs obliged. What happened in reality was that anytime a random weather server flipped over to raceday and it was pouring rain, the server emptied. When I asked some racers why they quit when faced with a rainy race, most of the answers were "every wet race turns into a crash fest", or "the rain badly effects my FPS".

So why have these features if people aren't going to use them, its bonkers.

harrr...true enough. I guess as the game Progresses and hopefully gets ALOT HARDER around the board some "People" might realize this isent the game they are looking for. BUT, since selfreflection isten a Thing nowadays they gonna go and blame the "game" for their hasty jump on the hypetrain that roughly was costing them 25 euros... :D

The question is :

What do I have to do on a server where it's raining on a clod evening ? Sit in a shelter and jerk off ?

In real life I would have no choice because I have no log off option, I'll just have to suffer some boredom, but I don't play games to do boring things. So here is the question, what is there to with adverse weather effect and limited running due to over heating ?
