What's the current hacking status like in DayZ:SA?

Recommended Posts

No.

Sorry. I misunderstood then. So what is a pirated server? Pirates take control of something that already exists and belongs to someone. So calling it a pirated server to me means someone took control of a legit server.

So what is it really?

I was playing with a couple friends the other night, and all of a sudden I transformed into a black woman, and was surrounded by about 100 identical black woman characters, and it seemed like I could hear everyone in the game that was talking at that point as if it were next to me.  Some of the character models moved around a bit, but most stood still, and I couldn't hit anyone.

Was this a glitch, or a massive hack?

It was a useless title.

Oh wait, no, that's what your title is. Change your title to something that is relevant to your post or don't bother posting at all.

OT: It was a glitch. I've seen those black woman's too, they represent a player who died I believe. You can shoot them, but they won't die. You can loot them, but they haven't got anything else than standard gear. It's been a while since I've seen one though.

cool...

I hope you don't think I was trying to instigate anything or cause a problem. The guy asked what was going on. I told him. If I misunderstood your strange post I apologize. :)

Problem is not that Battleye is ineffective. Even if it's just banning known memory signatures of hacks, it's dealing with 95% of potential hackers simply by forcing paid hacks out of business. They simply detect the hacks so often cheaters stop paying for the software and cheat coders stop making hacks for the game. All of the guys running with hacked mags, camping inside walls of ATC and so forth, all of them would be most likely using hacks if it wasn't so cost-prohibitive.

The problem is the "remaining 5%" who are not deterred by Battleye. A surprisingly many cheaters are now making their own simple hacks that cannot be banned by BE. Why? Because their hacks are fully private and BE never has access to the cheat and thus cannot include the hack signature to their checks. Also there are people who can afford buying dozens of copies and go through the hassle of reinstalling the game every time they get banned. The latter are very rare though, not because of the expense but because of the hassle.

The bottomline: Battleye is very good, but it's only the first line of defense and there is no second line of defense at the moment. That would be server admins with the power to enforce a level playing field, meaning access to player logs for items, movement, kills (distance, weapon, victim) etc. plus ofcourse whitelisting, which alone can deter almost all of the "blatant" hackers because they know that the hassle is not worth getting banned 15 minutes later on server.

History gives us the good lessons. In the mod, hacking was rampant on public hives even after BE went into serious-mode, because there were always plenty of script kiddies running their private bypasses for scripts and hacks. The salvation came in the way of whitelisted and well-administered private hives. Some of them were horrible and full of abuse, but the better hives could even deal with the more subtle forms of hacking, such as ESP only. The standalone does not support scripts anymore, but you can still do some nasty stuff with memhacks and abuse the trust that server places on the client.

So the question is, do the upcoming private shards actually give server admins the possibility of log access to player information in order to actually enforce rules such as "no hacking" and "no bambi kill" etc? If the answer is yes, then hackers will become much less of an issue, especially to the enlightened players who are smart enough to migrate on to those well administered private shards. Otherwise we will have no choice but to wait until Bohemia allows for fully private hives with the same freedoms for the hive owners as was possible in the mod. And that could be still a very long and painful wait.

Good post, but the description you give of the current hack scene is not really accurate based on what I have seen - A LOT of people have hacks. They're running around en'masse with entire squads of guys using hacks. If it was only 5% of the community you would not see several hackers on every single 40 pop server.

The other option is to stop playing at all ( like I did 3 month ago ) ! As long as BI doesnt give Server Admins whats needed to get rid of the hacker/duper/glitcher scumbags and BE keeps on feeding us with "words" about those hundrets and thousands that have already been banned ( but I never saw a Global BE ban pop up myself ) we only can show them our dissapointment with empty servers.

i saw 3 global bans in a raw, weeks ago... but i think they are not serverside, they pop up global, or?

I doubt very much that the are shown globally. When BE bans like 800 ppl in a week (example, that was named on reddit some time ago as total of a week, should be in one of the posts in this thread) then we would see bans all the time. That's a ban every 12 minutes after all. I never saw one I think, but I also don't read the battleeye messages all the time. I guess it was all on your server.

Saw my first flying guy last night.  He had an infinite ammo m4, just spraying constantly, flying through the air and then landing by people and shooting them.  Wasn't running fraps unfortunately, but it's nothing that other people haven't seen before any ways, just the first time I've seen it myself.

I keep an eye of one hacker site. Not a site that sells hacks but a site where they basically swap code and techniques and one hacker made some very interesting points. He said his hack could detect other hackers simply by getting the average speed of people within his network bubble and that there were a lot more hackers than people suspected. I thought about this and basically my conclusion is that although it would be trivial to detect speed hackers they've decided not to bother because once there are vehicles then that detection wouldn't be valid. They are consciously deciding to allow speed hacks because fixing it would only be a short term fix,

Another thing I learnt from that forum is that steam doesn't ban people based on hardware signatures i.e. a person can be banned and then just use the same machine to get a new steam account and rebuy the game. Do you see the conflict of interest? Steam imo needs to stop pretending it wants to ban cheaters from steam and actually ban them permanently. zero tolerance. xbox users who get caught hacking/cheating basically can't use that xbox online ever again but steam allow hackers/cheaters to buy their way back on for twenty or so dollars.

These hackers are scum. They want to destroy the game. I've seen them post how much they hate it and how much they hate bohemia. I don't know if anyone remembers the old twilight zone "It's a good life" - watch it. The kid in that is what these hackers are. Narcissistic psychopaths. The people who pay for hacks, although annoying aholes, I feel a more deserving of pity. They are pathetic specimens. Yes they are cheats but they are cheating because without cheats they wouldn't stand a chance and they are the people get banned etc, they are the people get robbed by these hackers who don't give a damn about the game, the players or their own customers.

Just to add: I play dayz on full servers most days and avoiding berezino means I typically don't see hackers. Yes, they may be around but they don't impact me.

Shared computers. See Steam Cafe and all the funky family-sharing features Steam uses.

"Hardware signature" is a bloody joke anyways. It's not rocket science.

Character on 3rd person servers slain by hackers

Well... I was in berizino with a freind, and we took down a few bandits before falling back, and a fresh spawn walks past me and says hey! Im about to go kill those bandits with some hacks, want to see?

I decline and go on my way (my freind died from the bandits)

Well after leaving berizino a hacker with a full auto shotgun gunned down my friend who spawned near berizino.

Here is where it gets stupid, he teleports to me and clones my gun, except with infinite ammo and proceeds to shoot at me and misses Alot

thankfully I had my Tactical Vest on, yes the ones that dont spawn anymore in the game, and it saved me.

I yell out to this hacker to not kill me, that this character has been alive for a very long time, don't kill me with hacks.

He responds "how long?"

I say since the first wipe, please don't kill me with your hacks.

He says okay, then teleports to me again and kills me...

First time I have met a hacker on DayZ Standalone, and I am very upset for my long lasting character to loose his life in such a way.

Dying on my hardcore toon to a elektro sniper that got his head stepped on is one thing, but getting gunned down to a pantless hacker?

thats plain dumb.... I thought hacking wasn't a thing in the SA?

How did you think 'hacking a wasn't a thing in the SA', because there are topics everyday about it.

I realise you might not trawl the forums daily but it's quite a common theme here, also one of the reasons they are wiping the servers soon.

Actually that leads me onto the next point I was going to make, all the servers are getting wiped soon to remove duped gear and hacked ammo so you would have only had that character alive for a short while longer any way.

Doesn't soften the blow I realise but it was happening sooner or later.

Lastly, Berezino. It's why most players avoid it on populous servers because it's full of kos, cheating bandits.

I get on the forums daily I guess I fail to see the threads about hackers, well this is unnerving.

Very unnerving.

Yeah it's highly disturbing, although I have yet to meet one. Maybe it's the servers I play on, maybe it's because I stay away from certain hot zones... I don't know.

It'll hopefully get better as the game gets more developed although I hesitate to be optimistic about things like that lol

+edit+ I'm sorry if the initial post sounded insulting or rude, wasn't my intention.

Telling some one not to kill you is probably the best way to get them to kill you.

Wipe soon. Few days ago I took some screenshots of my char on Regular (alive since January 8th) and switched to experimental - that was farewell. I will return to stable only after wipe now.

Anyway hackers are crap eaters.

I had no means of escape, everytime he lost sight, he would just tp to me.

You are totally wrong. You should have immediately disconnect.

I'm just saying, people like that get enjoyment out of making you upset.  It goes for normal encounters too, not just hackers.  Nothing makes me wanna kill some one more than them giving me excuses as to why I shouldn't when I decide to hold them up instead of killing them straight.

Act accepting of it, and don't give them attitude and they're probably more likely to not bother.  This guy probably woulda killed you any ways since he sounds like a butthole, but who knows, I've been in the same situation and had guys just leave me alone because they can tell by my tone I really don't care, so there's no fun for them in trying to harass me.

Alternatively, your options were to either kill him or log out.  I usually just log out from hackers unless I'm in a direct fight, they have hacks to find you any ways so I'd rather take my chances.  Last night I encountered a guy flying around who killed my friend, I logged out and he was about 600m away (I was on ostry, he was down at the atc).  When I switched servers I was dead, but oh well.

Any ways, welcome to the typical day in the life of an average DayZ player.

You were in berezino, that was your problem, hackers hang around where ever the majority of players are.
