I...I...I can't even comprehend how you think that. Guess what? It's actual melee now. Not a "pistol" with an axe texture. No, it hits were you swing. So, even when you ignore the fact that it has improved animations, I still can't comprehend how you can possibly consider it "worse".

That's why he's bitching, because it's no longer an easy one shot kill 5m range pistol.

There's now two things I'm looking forward to, Tropico 5, and DayZ, I've only seen pre alpha of both and I'm at the 'take my money I don't have yet' stage.  I'm buying Standalone because even it's 'crap graphics' look alright/good to me, I WANT to help with testing (until now I've only done Beta testing and even that's usually stress testing with very few bugs).

I fired up the mod recently. 40 minutes until I was kos in supermarket followed by immediate SA delay rage. I need help lol.

The first bit is actually more interesting to me but I wonder how they'll make them more threatening? More of the doesn't seem to be an option till Beta or Full release. So obviously either faster or stronger is the option. If they choose faster than I'll cry.

Has the twitch video been uploaded to Youtube? Twitch for me is terrible, doesn't stream well at all and the archive downloads have a slow rate too.

Not watched much but what are peoples opinions on zombies taking upwards of 5 hits with a baseball bat to the head to die? Seems excessive to me. I think 1 or 2 hits should suffice?

I snorted orange juice onto my keyboard as I laughed, remembering the insanity that was the Gamecube. 

 

All cleaned up now, didn't have time to clear up that purposefully ambiguous first reply before now.  :P

Some need to be sprinters (I think most of them should be). But regardless of my personal opinion, they need sprinters.

 

That and they just plain need to do more damage per-hit. DayZ+ was great and it really made zombies a threat just by having them do more damage. But, with the wonkiness of the mod, it just sort of got frustrating getting smacked down to the ground by a zombie in one hit when you're five feet away at full sprint.

 

Have we actually heard about any changes to how zombies do damage to the player?

Depends on the condition of the bat.  That is to say, a badly damaged bat might be less effective than a pristine wrench in melee.  What condition was the bat he was using?

 

Additionally, where you connect makes a difference too.  He might've been only scoring body shots.

Thanks! Interesting read. Though I'm a bit at odds with how it's relevant. I think the lore needs to be explored and outlined by Rocket, in fact I've spoken at length about this before on multiple occasions. But I think this recent tweet from Rocket is more to do with how they affect gameplay than anything, and how they're depicted in terms of variety.

About the Zeds... They need to hit harder and need to take more damage, at least to the body. No, not headshot only but watching the Twitch vid I was bit disappointed in seeing how easy the Zeds were to take down (I know it's alpha and may change). One shot to the body was all it took to bring down a Zed, it should really take more than that. A headshot would instakill a Zed but body shots, it should take 4, 5 maybe 6.

 

I know they're infected people and not actually the living dead but, considering people whacked out on ICE or whatever and seeing news reports of them actually taking massive damage to the body before actually dropping. Also these whacked out people seem to have superhuman strength and be able to do some major damage. It may be a disease that these people are infected with but if a narcotic can do shit like this why can't an infection?

Now, that makes Zeds scary.

 

I have personally seen on my server, where people actually have to think first before shooting a Zed or another person because if there are other Zeds around it can turn out to be a bad scene for them. Being mobbed by Zeds that actually WILL hurt you and not go down easily.

 

I'm probably used to my DayZ server where Zeds have always been a true threat and not just a minor annoyance.  ;)

Holy hell, just watched the last stream. I am so ready to play this game. Just hearing Hicks talk about that new military place South of Pavlovo. . . 

 

It's going to be a whole new game. I hope they get that doppleganger thing fixed this week. I've just finished up a lot of work and will have some serious free time on my hands soon.

I think there will be a lot of tweaking as the alpha/beta develops. I think the number of zombies will be increasing which means if people start seeing larger swarms then killing them will be nearly impossible if their health is increased. Either that will be a wonderful thing or it won't be and their health will have to be reduced again. I can imagine a lot of back and forth on this to find the perfect balance of number and strength. As of right now I agree that they do seem too easy but I also haven't played the game, maybe I just haven't seen enough of the sticky situations they have to offer!

 

I don't even think you need to justify their health with some realistic interpretation of how strong a zombie could/would be. You just have to make a decision on what type of threat you want them to be for the game and adjust their difficulty accordingly. I think they should be the primary threat personally! So quite strong or numerous or both!

After seeing the screenshots and videos of the SA I'm really disliking the text pop ups that accompany a state or feeling. Now I know Rocket said he was going to scrap and redesign them at one point. However I was thinking of some alternatives. I'm not sure if these have been suggested or not so bear with me!

A. Being able to press a button (e.g.) F11 and that brings up the hunger, thirst temperature icons, however another F11 press takes them away. This deals both with the text notifications and the HUD clutter.

B. Having the icons on the inventory (I believe Rocket has discussed this method potentially) so when the player open the icon, they can determine their health.

C. Have audio and visual cues for when a player is hungry/tired/thirsty. However This has the drawback of maybe players who listen to music while playing or if they're living somewhere where they need to keep the noise down.

What do you Think?
