October Round-up: #DayZDaily

Recommended Posts

I kind of agree but I am not sure if I understood you correctly. In the SA ammo will be rare, so I guess you also think that shots should be way more deadly?

And yes I agree that if hit in certain areas it should have different effects. But if I take a makarov and shoot someone from 5m distance 5 times in the stomache and he still stands like a candle, well then it seems freakin weird to me.

But actually I did not want to discuss these things. I wanted to know if someone actually knows anything about how it will be in the SA, because Dean someday said a single bullet will have much more effect than in the current DayZ.

I was saying that I think the damage is fine where it is (with a few exceptions), but that the damage in itself is merely one symptom of a larger problem.

On a personal note, I wouldn't necessarily -mind- if damage was higher. But I think it's fine the way it is now.

Alright, then I disagree. I really don't like the way it is now. If you shoot someone in the stomache he will most likely die without treatment and he surely won't stand on two feet after a single shot. There is just no way, atleast I have never heard of something like that.

One shot you lie on the ground. In DayZ:

5 shots you run like a maniac.

In my opinion many cool gameplay mechanics get lost by that. Additionally pistoles in the SA will be pretty useless, because ammo is very, very rare.

I don't want this to sound weird, but here we go: I've worked with an ambulance service once where we went to pick up a middle aged guy who had been shot once in the abdomen with a nato-caliber assault rifle.

He was walking and talking, and had been so while waiting to get picked up. He looked liked he was in pain, but was in full control of himself. He kept a hand pressed onto his stomach and there was no blood to be seen. If I hadn't been briefed I would have thought it was a stomach ache of some sort.

As for the ingame mechanics, the arma engine regards everyone as wearing body armor, this is a problem when the same mechanics are used in DayZ. I'm certain the SA will deal with this.

A few issues with this...

One, I cited testimony from a well-known former SFOD-D operator (Paul Howe) who mused in Mark Bowden's Black Hawk Down about how the 5.56x45 NATO rounds they were using were ineffective and required multiple hits to bring Somali OPFOR down. So, it certainly isn't unheard of. Bear in mind, that this is an intermediate assault rifle cartridge with a much higher velocity and energy than the 9x18 Makarov round fired by the Makarov PM. If a basic search is conducted, there's plenty of evidence to suggest that one can still continue to engage targets after being shot. It's based on a number of things, not just "I shot you in where it hurts, therefore you should be down". There are a ton of competing factors to dictate the overall "damage".

Two, simply because ammo (in general) will be rarer in SA, doesn't mean that the same level of rarity will apply across the board. Pistol ammo may not, and probably won't, be as rare as assault rifle ammo.

Five shots? Probably a bit much, sure. But it's not as black and white as you are making it seem.

Really? I have to researched this, I always thought people would like fall down after a single shot. ^^

But, I think the NATO-Caliber is designed to not kill a person but to hurt them. A part of psychological warfare (not sure if it was psychological warfare but something like that), you do not want to kill another person but to hurt him to actually make his comrads help him. This way more soldiers of the enemy side are not able to fight, which results in higher combat effectiveness.

Pistoles on the other hand are, as far as I know, supposed to stop a threat. For example a guy holding a weapon. I want him to be not able to fight after I shot him.

However that is just my amatuer knowladge I don't even know if it is true. I got to research it I guess.

The rest I can agree with you. But I really don't think (or maybe hope) that pistole ammo will be not rare. I think it will be like:

Half a mag of assault ammo as rare as a AS50 in vanilla DayZ.

A mag of pistole even rarer than a DMR in vanilla DayZ.

Nobody insulted anyone here, as far as I know. Just an misunderstanding, I hope my post was not for nothing.

Let me rephrase, then:

I wonder how many times I'll have to ask everyone to be civil.

I am not quite sure what you mean by that. And if my post is offtopic just tell me I will stop, because I kind of fear that someone is going to be punished soon. ^^

I wasn't referring to you only. The discussion(s) in this topic recently have been rather heated.

This whole page has been civil, you are the one dragging it off-topic.

I've reported you. Yes, I know you are the only mod online... But still.

Yes, this page has been civil, but the other pages have been rather heated.

On-topic, then, we shall go. Sorry.

I wasn't referring to you only. The discussion(s) in this topic recently have been rather heated.

If I may, I would like to give you an advise. I don't want to offend you or critise your ways of handling your role as a moderator.

But, I think it would be quite nice if you could invest some time for solving these heated discussions. Nobody is really expecting that from you because I am sure that as a moderator you have enough things to do.

But if you tell people "Be civil!" it won't change much. Probably the people will just ignore you or they just stop talking to each other. They won't be like "Wow, he is right I have to behave civil right now" because that is not how people work. Like I said, try to see it from their point of view. Try to solve the problem by making the person understand and not by commanding him to do something.

In my opinion it is the wrong way to teach, the easy way. If a teenage does something wrong and you tell him "Stop it or I'll take away your mobile phone!" he will maybe stop, but he will still think that he was right. My parents did that with me, all the time. And it took a long time to actually realise why my behaviour is not acceptable.

Be reasonable, tell the person that he is right, that you understand him. That you know why he is being offensive against another person. But also tell him why it was wrong, why it is better to not do so. If you do it right you have a high chance to actually teach the other person something. You have to get the other person to reflect himself. To make him realise the situation.

Not an easy task, but you can actually improve the forums if you do so. And you can even change a persons whole life, because sometimes it just needs a simple conversation to turn a person into something totally different. You have the power to effect a life. Actually every single conversation you will have in your life, no matter how unimportant it seems, one of these conversations or probably all of them effected your life in a way you could not even imagine, kind of like the chaos theory, an apperently insignificant event can cause a very significant difference. Being an astronaut or a thief. One conversation can make that difference.

Edit:

Sorry, did not read your post before posting mine. I will stop with offtopic right now.

I have now come to the conclusion that the standalone will never come out

this is sad

Regarding the comparison pic on the OP, the standalone version just has more buildings, trees, and a bluer sky. Other than that they look identical, the trees in the arma 2 one actually look better
