DayZ PS4 Discussion

Recommended Posts

Frankie is a tool.  Pure and simple.

Just because you are "famous" doesn't mean your spouting of nonsense should be deemed more worthy than a morons on a soapbox.

Well said. I've been of this opinion for a long time, he's getting as bad as that Rhino chap lately though.

Its happened to a lot of "famous" YTbers and streamers who basically owe all their fame to the DayZ mod.

Hello there

Ladies and gents, we seem to be getting away from the topic of the forthcoming Ps4 release and more onto the timescale issue.

I know these are intertwined to a degree but unless one's post/issue directly relates to the PS4 release, I suggest we take it to another existing or new thread.

Lets get back to the crux of the matter.

DAYZ coming to a console near you.

Rgds

Be interesting to see what communicating with other players will be like on console, can't imagine many will have a microphone or a keyboard.

That alone could drastically alter how the game plays.

Frankie is bit left behind with some of his statements but I didn't hear any rant.

I myself guess the PS4 version comes on the third year because DayZ seems to take some time just like many other early access games that are really unfinished.

The PS4 comes with a headset so unless people have lost it every user should have one, course they might not want to use it but they can.

It's nothing spectacular but it works fine.

I'm glad I don't have to buy a proper headset now :D would be a waste DayZ is all I play on PC besides Minecraft here and there.

I wonder if we'll be able to customize the controls? Hopefully.

Ah, didn't realise it came with a headset, expected it to be an optional extra.

With the announcement of DayZ for PS4 I'm out.

It's turned into this bloated, plodding, fetid beast with dollar-signs for eyes, and Dean is moving onto other pursuits in a few months when SA (apparently) is going beta. Game's in my steam library anyway so I might check back in after a few years have passed - however currently this is painful to watch unfold.

Call me an old fart or whatever, but I loved the ARMA II mod when it was underground, buggy as hell, & cool. Now it's just ...well, buggy as hell. The community here and in-game WAS equally as cool too, I really miss those days. I guess I've been reflecting a lot lately, thinking back from- 2012 - present, and I don't like the direction this is going. Respect that my opinions are my own, so please don't ask why, or try to convince me otherwise, I'm just done.

DayZ has become a filthy capitalist, cigar chomping, single-malt guzzling, pseudo high-roller. I think I'm going to be ill

+1

But I guess this will be counted "off-topic" and hidden since it's not gloryfying this obvious marketing, money making - PS4 release plans in a nutshell.

The way I see it, the PS4 version can only be a good thing for the optimization of the PC version... If the PS4 version can be made to run at a consistent 30fps in the wilderness AND cities then a low-midrange pc should also be able to do the same.. The level of fps drops is staggering at times.. I can be running anywhere between 80-120fps consistently then look towards a city and bang, it halves, it drops by 3/4s, who knows.. If the PS4 version does that it wont be released or will be returned and absolutely slammed by all reviewers.. As such, they HAVE to get the build right and they will do that by making sure the PC version is optimized first so everyone can have a smooth gameplay experience.. Fail at that and no one will be buying the PS4 version and they will lose a hell of a lot of money..

Yes they may have to dumb the controls down a little, there are things that wont be able to be done on a PS4 pad, although the touchpad can double up as a mouse wheel/track pad.. They may need to implement a new inventory system that works with the PS4 controls.. They may also have to figure out a way of scrolling weapons, maybe the D-Pad I guess.. As for items like a compass, map etc, that would probably have to go on the track pad too, though the PS4 has 11 buttons/triggers to work with plus the pad, d-pdad and sticks.. Some of those could be doubled up, eg/ crouch/prone could be mapped to the same button ala Battlefield, tap to crouch, hold to prone etc.. There will be issues, I have no doubt, but if they actually figure out how to do and get it running nicely, it could be a success.. And as I said before, if they get it running and optimized on the PS4 without stripping out the various functions and ideas behind it or diluting it, the PC version will only benefit in my opinion..

I hate the fact that its coming on PS4. Whats next Xbox too, Both Sony and Microsoft battle against each other, ruining gaming, trying there best to get games exclusively for Xbox or PS4. Remember the good old days where a game would come out and both PS and Xbox users alike could buy the game and play.

It sucks more for us also. As those game that are exclusives would be allot better on PC. We should start boycotting these companies. You won't see Sony bringing games like The Last of Us to PC.

Sony is all about selling more systems, same with Microsoft. Bringing DayZ to PS4 is all about them selling more systems, nothing else. Won't be long til other companies will have DayZ coming out.

they want Dayz to be ps4 only to sell consoles and corner the market in this genre. Dayz and H1Z1 means they have the top two zombie type survival games only for ps4. no eggbox one. so thats big sales for them.

also if Dayz bombs they have H1Z1 to carry on or vice versa. so covered all round.

the interesting thing for me is how its going to perform on ps4. on pc its still shit. fps drops down to 20 in some places from 60-70 fps. that isnt exceptable and thats on a higher spec pc than a ps4. so it means lower graphics probably less stuff but then again they could do that to both versions and just give us one shitty version and say we made Dayz perform great across the platforms but looks terrible.

also im not a big fan on frankle but his video was pretty much spot on with ps4. i said this many times along time ago its how many players feel.

We warned everyone that the game is rough around the edges when it was released. We heard this and did not expect a finished game but we had expected more. We felt development had such a head start because the map, engine etc were already developed. A lot of us felt and do feel like the goodwill generated by the mod was abused. We said that it's basically just the first playable version back then. A lot of people chose to ignore that warning. Like I said above, you should come back later, when the game does meet your expectations.

Your post would be a breath of fresh air as I could understand your concerns, if it didn't contain the classic rant about hats and guns. I agree complaining about one section of the dev team being prolific is wrong. They hired to people to make hats and track pants. Those people are making hats and track pants, its not like you can just have a 3d modeler start working on netcode in his downtime.

Creating hats and guns does not affect the speed of any other updates. They are not worked on instead of programming issues. These items are made by artists. Artists can't work on code. It's not their job, it's not their skill, it's not what they're hired for. Programmers work on code, they don't work on hats and guns. No development time is lost when new hats and guns are made, the progress on code remains basically the same. Should artists just sit at the office and twiddle their thumbs and not work on anything while programmers work on code? Can we please finally understand this, everyone?Hadn't read this part when i wrote the above statement lawls.

The game is obviously going to be finished. I have no clue where this whole thing about the game never going to be released comes from. This comes from people forecasting the inevitable decline in revenue as time progresses, a year from now when 90% of the revenue potential of the title has been realized, the bean counters are going to start asking why they are still paying obviously passionate developers to work on a project that has no further potential for revenue (now hopefully this is where the console ports will assist)

And I'm not saying you're wrong on the rest of stuff, well you technically are, but it can't be blamed on you as a lot of the changes in code are not as visible as a new hat or a gun. Like I said above I can understand where you're coming from in that regard, but development is not really slow by any means. It outwardly is, you guys are obviously fighting hard and the battle is long but to us on the home-front it just doesn't seam as though the army is gaining any ground. Not to degrade your work.

Again, I really want to say how I appreciate you subjecting yourself to this.

It was obviously released a little too early. The way it sits in its current form and its development afterward would have most likely satiated the community a little more adequately. It seems as though it was released so early due to pressure from said community, who in turn felt it should have been more than it was. We wanted it released = we had expected it to be farther along.

Question One. Do you think the first stage of development was perhaps a little bit lackadaisical? Or are we expecting too much?  And if so how? Will future development be geared more towards optimizations now that consoles are involved?

Question Two. There cannot be much involved in porting DayZ to PS4, am I right? Write a new executable and come up with a control scheme no?

I LOVE COLOURS

DayZ is going to need some major optimisation to run well on a console, even at the reduced frame rates they run at.

yay

rocket gets to make more money. Now, he can finally expand the  game to new, better heights!

or he can use it to enhance his already 12 foot statue made out of solid steam diamond

DayZ is feeling like the WoW of survival horror. It's taken so many other games out of the business, the skulls are piling up outside of its cave.

I can appreciate this statement. From a development perspective, indeed it is a blink of an eye. If ANY iteration of the game so far was even remotely close to playable, I could see myself investing more time/money/computer upgrades in order to continue playing & enjoying this unique concept.

How many more years will it be before you can actually go into a games shop & buy a copy of DayZ for PS4? What about the full-version on steam? Two years? Four? At this rate, with all the grand, sweeping announcements I think that the 2020 prediction from earlier posts is probably bang on. By then PS4 will be old news, and PCs will probably be dying off as the market for tablet, smart & wireless platforms explodes.

Better start working on a touch-screen port while you're at it devs.

I think it's a slippery slope. How many great pc developers have moved to consoles only to totally forget about the pc platform, or treat it with utter contempt, still kinda support it but in a poor fashion. Even if dayz is negatively unaffected by the console development, what about the next title?

I also consider it a shame that the pc is losing one of its killer exclusives. I think it's probably a boost for BI, it might even help dayz's development, I'm not sure, but the one thing it's definitely bad for is pc gaming as a platform. The pc needs titles that you can't get on console to keep the pc alive. Too many once great IPs have moved to console and turned to s***. I just hope that isn't the case this time.

I can't wait to see how BI map all the keys required to play DayZ to a console controller...

It's Day Z, not ArmA to have a bunch of controls all over the keyboard. Also performance wouldn't be such a problem, because ArmA engines had and still have problems regarding API overhead, whereas on consoles, it should be greatly reduced and hopefully if they go for DX11 at least, it should be a smoother sailing on PC as well.

My only grudge against the PS 4 (well, perhaps 2), is/are:

1. They should have put all man hours into finishing the PC version and then and ONLY then start working on the PS 4/whatever console version.

2. Some ideas might be left out due to lower denominator being the consoles, so they probably want the experience to be the same and not "port" it from the PC (PC 1st in order to put out the best version that it can be), with what features can be on the consoles hardware and the rest being left out, aka PC exclusive.
