  1. Environment noise is quite controllable if a player wants to be serious about it (I mean anyone above 10yo can ask people to be quiet if he's playing, or just close the door with a note) and as I said, the voice detection technology at this point can pretty much differentiate a person voice from other sounds. In TS f.e. I play guitar sometimes and the mic does not recognize the music :). The no-mic or bad mic is a thing of pressure. If the need for a good mic is more than the laziness to go buy a new one, he will buy one (a 1$ Chinese mic headset is enough for a couple of years) . We already have the KOS if no-mic rule that almost every player has, and a lot of people bought a mic just because of this :D I haven't met anyone yet that would agree to use the ingame comms. Everyone is just "join this ts channel, etC" -.-. I sometimes go to transmission towers and try to find another survivors, or near towns with my walkie talkie. I try every frequency, and the only thing I get is static... but its quite fun hahaha so i'll keep on that.

    Guitar to the campfire?

Yeah, Rommel was a pretty cool guy - as generals go. Brilliant tactician, cared for his men and opposed Hitler. Even people like Churchill sang his praises - he shouldn't be remembered as a Nazi. Guitar would be cool. Maybe have a system that allows you to play actual tunes - though I don't know how that'd look. I know Rust has a guitar, but it seems to be a pretty shit system.

    Guitar to the campfire?

The only thing that says "shoot at me" more than a guitar is a bicycle. I pray both are implemented as soon as possible.
  4. First and foremost thankyou guys for stopping by. As always it means a lot. Onto the story... after our time at Tisy everyone but Rene and myself continued onto Bernezino to perfect his fireman's outfit. Upon entering Berry we came across a wild Brandon. The rest is history, enjoy :D ALL EVENTS TOOK PLACE ON EXPERIMENTAL SERVERS This series has had three content creators... all of which are wonderful, check them here: BarelyInfected: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC-TL... [Instruments] Acoustic Guitar

Well I dont mean a system like guitar hero, but more of what FL Studio has build in, using the keyboard to play notes, and multiple notes can be used for chords

    [Instruments] Acoustic Guitar

Well, I think this will be maybe too much ^^ We're not playing guitar hero here :D I would prefer that devZ work on something more useful than this and will be happy if there was just a playing animation when you sit down with the guitar, you've got to play live with your own guitar dude ;) If you don't know how to play guitar, you could broadcast a pop/folk song with your mic as well. :) Sorry for the topic revival Orlok, I won't do it again. But if I read the rules, I cannot open a topic which is about an already existing topic :( MIDI will be crazy :D I know that bohemia are crazy enought to do that, I'm playing Arma since operation flashpoint and spent many thousand of hours on Arma2/Dayz, but still, I noticed last week that the sea has a tide effect :O LOL ! These guys are crazy !

    [Instruments] Acoustic Guitar

YES! I requested this a half year ago and I still want it! YEs YES Make it a melee weapon, but if you scroll and press ''Play Acoustic Guitar'' you can play it by using your keyboard for chords (similar to FL Studio etc, if I press an q I get a c if I press a w I get a D etc, now If I want to stop playing I scroll again and tadaa.'' Or maybe a few basic chords like AM, C, D, EM, E and G and thats it that would be fine too because than you can walk around and play

    [Instruments] Acoustic Guitar

I need to revive this topic, because this idea is awesome :) Played several times some guitar on this game, but with nothing in my character's hand :( It would be super cool to have this kind of instrument in the game, it will add a lot to the atmosphere ! Guitar is the most played instrument in the world, so, there is maybe no need to have much more instrument, but maybe a harmonica would be cool too ;)

The problem with the game. My views

Cause you know, after wandering around fully geared for 2 hours staring at the shiny new gun i have, i get this strong urge to engage in meaningful conversation with a fellow survivor and tell some jokes, and then wander around with company for another 2 hours aimlessly, Hell why not just rally up every player i see and prance through the magical fields of the west and have a giant picnic? We will play guitar, and tell story's of our magical adventures of picking up water bottles and snaring innocent bunny rabbits. point being you cant RIP on players because they PVP, chances are those players don't even want to be "PVP exclusive" it's that they don't have any fucking choice. Also it's a survival game and most often its just overall better to shoot first and ask questions later, unless you are faced against impossible odd's and communicating becomes the most effective means of survival. My play style involves me surviving using any means, if communicating allows me to survive a situation i will do it, if it's safer to shoot someone that has there gun drawn and has spotted me, then i will do that.

    So everyone is right handed?

Yeah - "dexterous" comes from the latin for "right handed" - "sinister" comes from the latin for "left handed" Yeah - Out brains are arranged differently. IMO that means "better" - but don't worry about it 'simple-minded normal creature', we hardly ever take advantage of our great powers I'm 100% sinister and ALSO 100% left handed, but never had trouble with guns, it's always the same - you reach over the top to work the bolt and the safety is just by your forefinger. Seems completely natural to me. [edit: also using your forefinger means you got to take it off the trigger before you start trying to use muscle on the weapon, so you 100% can not pull on the trigger accidentally] . There are left and ambi safeties but never liked them (no point in trying to confuse yourself when you already have the habit). If you "instinct shoot" pistols you can use either hand but for sights or scope always the left eye of course. - only problem is if a rifle has a shaped stock, that might be a slight pisser sometimes. I used to have a great little 22 rifle with a walnut left-handed stock, when I first moved away from home my sister sold it to the kid next door for like - nothing - to "clean up the house" - mutter spit mutter curse That's why I moved to the Dark Side of the Force. Archery I hold the bow in my right. For stuff like melee and rock climbing, and ya feet in roller-blading, you really ought to be as good as you can both ways. Guitar I play your standard "right handed" because its a damn sight easier doing the fretting with your good left hand , but all you right hander's use your weak clumsy hand for that, which is crazy. No wonder you take so long to learn to play so badly. And driving a car, the trick is you always sit on the same side as the steering wheel (heh) but depending what country you're in when you shift gear you might just open the door by mistake. I know a left-hander who plays the saxaphone real good - but, damn, how he works THAT I can NOT figure.

    Musical Instruments

I'm not sure if this has been suggested already but it would be great to see some musical instruments added to the game. Now that base building and camping is starting to fall into place, I'd love to wack out the acoustic guitar and play a few tunes! You could have keys 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,0,-,= represent the notes (one octave). Lower ocatves for bass notes, mid range for say a guitar and higher octaves for something like a xylophone. Let's face it, who needs a gun and a bag on there back when they could have an acoustic guitar? Make music not war.

    Musical Instruments

While I don't see the point it be fun to play a guitar or get a clarinet and smack that guy who took you beans and play a tune at the campfire with a saxophone. But if any instruments get added the better be able to be used as melee weapons.

    How was your Day(Z)?

As promised DaveB ducked into Berezino looking for the elusive paint can and after scouring the entire south side to about the hospital we got bored and figured we might as well head to the construction site. We didn't find a single item there... I think Dave summed it up best when he typed: "There's a nice view- but that's about it." I took a look around and saw no activity. When Dave joined me the server pop had been quite low but by the time we were clear of the industrial site it was packed full. "How about we run our old route down to Nizhnoye and head to the factory... see if there's anyone around we can help out? Loads of people in here and this is a common spawn area." "Sure." Dave typed in reply. We headed down and almost immediately saw a fresh running along the beach. He didn't want any part of me as I stepped out to join him and just kept on running in a straight line. I tried calling out to him but he didn't hesitate to frost me out... It was a bit strange since there are only two reasons to totally ignore someone: 1) You're afraid the guy with the AK / Hunter gear is going to kill you 2) See 1. Okay- granted he may have not had a mic so he may not have heard me (did they ever fix that, I wonder?)... or maybe he was in a hurry to "help his people" or something... but 9 times out of 10 if you're going to elude someone it's because you're worried about getting killed. But the guy just ran in a straight line... no sniper shuffle... just ran straight. I ALMOST killed him just because it made no sense- but then I realized that not being given an opportunity to help someone is not a justifiable reason to shoot them in the back. So we carried on to the south. Niz hadn't had anything and as Dave pointed out, "Looks like someone's been through here already- a lot of open doors." Definitely more than just random doors... and we found nothing. We got to the road block just north of the factory and I spied another relative freshy with a motorcycle helmet on (and as a rule I don't like those)... I think he was in "road autopilot" mode when he looked up and saw a couple of handsome gentlemen with rifles pointing at him politely telling him to stop and put his hands up. And when I say politely- I mean we could have charmed the queen's panties off from our relentless pursuit of pure, unbridled eloquence. I mean... I'm not sure why you'd want to- but hey... Keep an open mind. Our new friend was quite cooperative and we quickly learned he had returned from a break from the game for a few months. He was a bit out of sorts (and ended up having to take a phone call halfway through our interaction after having locked the microphone open- probably by accident). He needed some water and food so we provided him with a canteen, some and some sardines. "Oh wait," I took the sardines back. "Who the fuck wants sardines when you can have peaches!" DaveB (spoiler alert: doesn't actually kill this guy) offered the guy a crafted improvised knife for the journey and we sent him on his way. There was some graphical glitching going on and the guy was nice enough to point out that it looked like Dave had left his AK on the ground. I was relieved to see that he hadn't said so while sprinting towards it with every intention of rocking it like an air guitar all over us. Dave had his AK... but part of it was still on the ground... Weird. "Welcome to .57 dude... Things are probably better than when you left but there's still some work to do!" "Alpha." "Alpha..." Alpha. It's like a salute between players. Anyway- we bid the guy farewell and wished him luck. A cursory look into the factory revealed no kit at all... and the search for the mystical paint can continues!

Love this idea. If we can get a guitar and a deck of cards, leisure time in DayZ will be hugely improved :)

    [Instruments] Acoustic Guitar

Yes. 100% Trying to learn this medley right now. The first time I played the DayZ mod, and made a camp fire, first thought I had was to grab my guitar and play some. It was one of the features I loved the most in the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series, and always thought it was missing in other games. It would be brilliant in the stand alone. I wouldn't be surprised if eventually we have access to something like that. Right now on experimental there's this working radio, no real use except for enjoyment and entertainment. Pretty awesome if you ask me. Lastly, not many people played this game, but Two Worlds 2 had a great mechanic with various instruments. It was a minigame to either have fun, or make some money with the NPCs if you were playing any good. Think of "Keyboard Hero" within a fantastic game, similar to TES series. Either a similar mechanic, or just some selectable/or random songs, I'd be happy with.
  17. I’m sure the DayZ forums see a million of these a day, so I’m going to get to the point. This is more than just a DayZ backstory. This is building the world of Chernarus. It will be easy to implement and it will improve the player experience. The Plan Add more books and papers. Most of these pieces will be interesting but irrelevant. However, every so often the player will pick up a piece and be surprised to find information that’s actually relevant to the world around him. The Why There’s a critical problem in the foundation of DayZ’s gameplay: there’s no long term goal. Once you have food and a gun, there’s nothing else to care about. You’ve won. It’s over. This leads players to hunting other players not due to survival, but due to lack of goals. It breaks the spirit of DayZ. My plan would add another element of things to find in the world. I imagine players trading information they’ve learned about what’s happened. They try to piece together the information and misinformation, just like they would in real life. A player starving and looking for a can of beans will skip right over these written pieces. However, for a player who is fed and armed, who has been roaming Chernarus for hours without seeing a soul, these written pieces will give a human connection as he listens to the words of the author. The What Attached to this post are samples of what a player could pick up and learn about the outbreak in Chernarus. There will be many more pieces, both relevant and irrelevant to the world of Chernarus. There have to be enough irrelevant pieces so it feels special when the player finds a piece that sheds light on the world around him. Also, I’m sure you’ll notice that I’m far from being professional with photoshop. I just taught myself a bit so you could have something pretty to look at while reading. I leave the origins of the zombie problem vague. Confusion drives the fear in a zombie apocalypse, so I do not want a concrete backstory. Players will read one piece, think they understand what’s happening, then pick up another piece which contradicts the first. For example, Peter Young will have a theory, but then players will also find many other pamphlets from Peter Young and realize he’s insane. Esther has a theory, but it contradicts Peter Young’s and the Editor of the local newspaper. This is building an immersive world, not telling a backstory. Finally, the pieces I’ve attached are all pre-infection or as the infection is breaking. There could be an entire other category of pieces that come from post-infection. For example, Kurt Paine, a pop-rock star famous for charity who travels to Chernarus looking to help. He’s not Bono, but I could see why you might make the connection. Anyhow, things don’t end well for him. This may be pushing it, but it could even be possible to add a unique, single-spawn item of Paine’s signature guitar into the world. Players would fight over it and share stories of how they once managed to carry it for a full two hours. The End This is low risk and high reward for the DayZ team. It’s low risk because this will be easy to introduce into the game, it will not change DayZ’s gameplay, and it will not hinder DayZ’s development roadmap. It’s high reward because it adds an entirely new element of items to find for the player who is past the desperate hunt for food. And most importantly, it’s high reward because it pushes the player’s experience that much closer to feeling real.

Use those books to build a better Chernarus

Right, but what's the reward? I get the guitar thing, I think there was something similar in the mod with the gold AK, but what reward would 'piecing together the mystery' yield? You seem to completely disregard the metagame where players will learn the full story within a week of such a feature being introduced. It's the same with the in-game maps. They're worthless because people can either already find their way around or they just use an online map. Within the first week or so those maps might have been useful, but you'll be hard-pressed to find anyone using them now. It's a neat idea, but it's fluff. i don't oppose its implementation any more than I oppose the books already in-game, but I think you're overestimating the impact it will have. However, if these papers were randomly selected or, rather, these papers were selected based on a pre-determined story selected by the sever then it might be more interesting. Let's say the server decides that the zombies are a failed experiment. Papers hinting that zombies are a failed experiment would spawn in the world. If the server decides that zombies are, I don't know, the literal walking dead then the appropriate papers would spawn. Now what would make these things actually valuable would be if these papers, much like maps, could be combined to somehow point the way to something interesting. A randomly spawned loot cache, for example, or a unique vehicle or weapon. That would be interesting.

    Tatanko's April Social

Thanks to everyone who attended! Glad I could provide some kind of entertainment with my guitar, really appreciate the comments. I hope next time Wyyland can stay a bit longer, and Nuggit can make it, so we can do a little jam session, and take more requests, as we'll have various repertoires! Here's some shots I took. After lots of gardening, the strain on raBit's arm became too much and he had to loose it. Successful operation. He recuperated very quickly. Weyland Yutani joined the party and provided some music too. Having a good time around the fire. Now most of the guests had left, and the rest of us decided to have a little flare fireworks festival going on. Thanks to Musty Gaming also for making this possible. Everyone's effort was very appreciated.

    Tatanko's Monthly Social -- April 2015

Yes!! B) This time I'll make sure to have all the necessary to do the archery contest!! Looking forward to this! Sitting around the fire playing guitar while drinking some cold Kvass! Edit: With current 0.55 loot spawns, finding rope is just a dice roll, so I'm not sure it's gonna be happening... :|

    Guitar Melee weapons.

Seriously I'd love to have a playable guitar in game. I doubt that we'll get this anytime soon, if we ever get playable guitars. In Two Worlds 2, there's something almost identical to what you say, and I have to admit that I spent a lot of time playing guitar in that game! Had mods in Morrowind, Oblivion and Skyrim that added instruments, and a mod in S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Clear Sky too. Maybe when we get mods for the Stand Alone, someone will add something similar. (Mods: That was something Dean Hall was looking forward, but since he's gone, I have no clue if we ever gonna see player based mods in the game...)

    Guitar Melee weapons.

Of course, I had seen it :D However I was emphasising more on the actual playing the Guitar in this post hehe. But I suppose I could've added to that thread as well :D
