    Musical Instruments

I'm not sure if this has been suggested already but it would be great to see some musical instruments added to the game. Now that base building and camping is starting to fall into place, I'd love to wack out the acoustic guitar and play a few tunes! You could have keys 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,0,-,= represent the notes (one octave). Lower ocatves for bass notes, mid range for say a guitar and higher octaves for something like a xylophone. Let's face it, who needs a gun and a bag on there back when they could have an acoustic guitar? Make music not war.

    How was your Day(Z)?

As promised DaveB ducked into Berezino looking for the elusive paint can and after scouring the entire south side to about the hospital we got bored and figured we might as well head to the construction site. We didn't find a single item there... I think Dave summed it up best when he typed: "There's a nice view- but that's about it." I took a look around and saw no activity. When Dave joined me the server pop had been quite low but by the time we were clear of the industrial site it was packed full. "How about we run our old route down to Nizhnoye and head to the factory... see if there's anyone around we can help out? Loads of people in here and this is a common spawn area." "Sure." Dave typed in reply. We headed down and almost immediately saw a fresh running along the beach. He didn't want any part of me as I stepped out to join him and just kept on running in a straight line. I tried calling out to him but he didn't hesitate to frost me out... It was a bit strange since there are only two reasons to totally ignore someone: 1) You're afraid the guy with the AK / Hunter gear is going to kill you 2) See 1. Okay- granted he may have not had a mic so he may not have heard me (did they ever fix that, I wonder?)... or maybe he was in a hurry to "help his people" or something... but 9 times out of 10 if you're going to elude someone it's because you're worried about getting killed. But the guy just ran in a straight line... no sniper shuffle... just ran straight. I ALMOST killed him just because it made no sense- but then I realized that not being given an opportunity to help someone is not a justifiable reason to shoot them in the back. So we carried on to the south. Niz hadn't had anything and as Dave pointed out, "Looks like someone's been through here already- a lot of open doors." Definitely more than just random doors... and we found nothing. We got to the road block just north of the factory and I spied another relative freshy with a motorcycle helmet on (and as a rule I don't like those)... I think he was in "road autopilot" mode when he looked up and saw a couple of handsome gentlemen with rifles pointing at him politely telling him to stop and put his hands up. And when I say politely- I mean we could have charmed the queen's panties off from our relentless pursuit of pure, unbridled eloquence. I mean... I'm not sure why you'd want to- but hey... Keep an open mind. Our new friend was quite cooperative and we quickly learned he had returned from a break from the game for a few months. He was a bit out of sorts (and ended up having to take a phone call halfway through our interaction after having locked the microphone open- probably by accident). He needed some water and food so we provided him with a canteen, some and some sardines. "Oh wait," I took the sardines back. "Who the fuck wants sardines when you can have peaches!" DaveB (spoiler alert: doesn't actually kill this guy) offered the guy a crafted improvised knife for the journey and we sent him on his way. There was some graphical glitching going on and the guy was nice enough to point out that it looked like Dave had left his AK on the ground. I was relieved to see that he hadn't said so while sprinting towards it with every intention of rocking it like an air guitar all over us. Dave had his AK... but part of it was still on the ground... Weird. "Welcome to .57 dude... Things are probably better than when you left but there's still some work to do!" "Alpha." "Alpha..." Alpha. It's like a salute between players. Anyway- we bid the guy farewell and wished him luck. A cursory look into the factory revealed no kit at all... and the search for the mystical paint can continues!

    [Instruments] Acoustic Guitar

Love this idea. If we can get a guitar and a deck of cards, leisure time in DayZ will be hugely improved :)

    [Instruments] Acoustic Guitar

Yes. 100% Trying to learn this medley right now. The first time I played the DayZ mod, and made a camp fire, first thought I had was to grab my guitar and play some. It was one of the features I loved the most in the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series, and always thought it was missing in other games. It would be brilliant in the stand alone. I wouldn't be surprised if eventually we have access to something like that. Right now on experimental there's this working radio, no real use except for enjoyment and entertainment. Pretty awesome if you ask me. Lastly, not many people played this game, but Two Worlds 2 had a great mechanic with various instruments. It was a minigame to either have fun, or make some money with the NPCs if you were playing any good. Think of "Keyboard Hero" within a fantastic game, similar to TES series. Either a similar mechanic, or just some selectable/or random songs, I'd be happy with.

    [Instruments] Acoustic Guitar

I think it would be pretty cool to have an acoustic guitar in-game. Not as a melee weapon, but something to hold in your hands like you're playing it so musicians can walk around Chernarus with caps lock on playing and possibly singing over voip.

Use those books to build a better Chernarus

Right, but what's the reward? I get the guitar thing, I think there was something similar in the mod with the gold AK, but what reward would 'piecing together the mystery' yield? You seem to completely disregard the metagame where players will learn the full story within a week of such a feature being introduced. It's the same with the in-game maps. They're worthless because people can either already find their way around or they just use an online map. Within the first week or so those maps might have been useful, but you'll be hard-pressed to find anyone using them now. It's a neat idea, but it's fluff. i don't oppose its implementation any more than I oppose the books already in-game, but I think you're overestimating the impact it will have. However, if these papers were randomly selected or, rather, these papers were selected based on a pre-determined story selected by the sever then it might be more interesting. Let's say the server decides that the zombies are a failed experiment. Papers hinting that zombies are a failed experiment would spawn in the world. If the server decides that zombies are, I don't know, the literal walking dead then the appropriate papers would spawn. Now what would make these things actually valuable would be if these papers, much like maps, could be combined to somehow point the way to something interesting. A randomly spawned loot cache, for example, or a unique vehicle or weapon. That would be interesting.
  8. I’m sure the DayZ forums see a million of these a day, so I’m going to get to the point. This is more than just a DayZ backstory. This is building the world of Chernarus. It will be easy to implement and it will improve the player experience. The Plan Add more books and papers. Most of these pieces will be interesting but irrelevant. However, every so often the player will pick up a piece and be surprised to find information that’s actually relevant to the world around him. The Why There’s a critical problem in the foundation of DayZ’s gameplay: there’s no long term goal. Once you have food and a gun, there’s nothing else to care about. You’ve won. It’s over. This leads players to hunting other players not due to survival, but due to lack of goals. It breaks the spirit of DayZ. My plan would add another element of things to find in the world. I imagine players trading information they’ve learned about what’s happened. They try to piece together the information and misinformation, just like they would in real life. A player starving and looking for a can of beans will skip right over these written pieces. However, for a player who is fed and armed, who has been roaming Chernarus for hours without seeing a soul, these written pieces will give a human connection as he listens to the words of the author. The What Attached to this post are samples of what a player could pick up and learn about the outbreak in Chernarus. There will be many more pieces, both relevant and irrelevant to the world of Chernarus. There have to be enough irrelevant pieces so it feels special when the player finds a piece that sheds light on the world around him. Also, I’m sure you’ll notice that I’m far from being professional with photoshop. I just taught myself a bit so you could have something pretty to look at while reading. I leave the origins of the zombie problem vague. Confusion drives the fear in a zombie apocalypse, so I do not want a concrete backstory. Players will read one piece, think they understand what’s happening, then pick up another piece which contradicts the first. For example, Peter Young will have a theory, but then players will also find many other pamphlets from Peter Young and realize he’s insane. Esther has a theory, but it contradicts Peter Young’s and the Editor of the local newspaper. This is building an immersive world, not telling a backstory. Finally, the pieces I’ve attached are all pre-infection or as the infection is breaking. There could be an entire other category of pieces that come from post-infection. For example, Kurt Paine, a pop-rock star famous for charity who travels to Chernarus looking to help. He’s not Bono, but I could see why you might make the connection. Anyhow, things don’t end well for him. This may be pushing it, but it could even be possible to add a unique, single-spawn item of Paine’s signature guitar into the world. Players would fight over it and share stories of how they once managed to carry it for a full two hours. The End This is low risk and high reward for the DayZ team. It’s low risk because this will be easy to introduce into the game, it will not change DayZ’s gameplay, and it will not hinder DayZ’s development roadmap. It’s high reward because it adds an entirely new element of items to find for the player who is past the desperate hunt for food. And most importantly, it’s high reward because it pushes the player’s experience that much closer to feeling real.

    Tatanko's April Social

Thanks to everyone who attended! Glad I could provide some kind of entertainment with my guitar, really appreciate the comments. I hope next time Wyyland can stay a bit longer, and Nuggit can make it, so we can do a little jam session, and take more requests, as we'll have various repertoires! Here's some shots I took. After lots of gardening, the strain on raBit's arm became too much and he had to loose it. Successful operation. He recuperated very quickly. Weyland Yutani joined the party and provided some music too. Having a good time around the fire. Now most of the guests had left, and the rest of us decided to have a little flare fireworks festival going on. Thanks to Musty Gaming also for making this possible. Everyone's effort was very appreciated.

I would also like to extend a thank you to Odin Lowe for playing the guitar around the camp fire. Especially when he started taking requests!

    Tatanko's Monthly Social -- April 2015

Yes!! B) This time I'll make sure to have all the necessary to do the archery contest!! Looking forward to this! Sitting around the fire playing guitar while drinking some cold Kvass! Edit: With current 0.55 loot spawns, finding rope is just a dice roll, so I'm not sure it's gonna be happening... :|

    Tatanko's Spring BBQ

I'm down Tatanko ... Work and family will not stop me from attending this one, I'm all for playing my guitar over voice chat. Maybe someone will sing to my riffs :) .

How about if anyone can play an instrument, like a guitar, we can play that around the fire!

    Guitar Melee weapons.

Seriously I'd love to have a playable guitar in game. I doubt that we'll get this anytime soon, if we ever get playable guitars. In Two Worlds 2, there's something almost identical to what you say, and I have to admit that I spent a lot of time playing guitar in that game! Had mods in Morrowind, Oblivion and Skyrim that added instruments, and a mod in S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Clear Sky too. Maybe when we get mods for the Stand Alone, someone will add something similar. (Mods: That was something Dean Hall was looking forward, but since he's gone, I have no clue if we ever gonna see player based mods in the game...)

    Guitar Melee weapons.

Of course, I had seen it :D However I was emphasising more on the actual playing the Guitar in this post hehe. But I suppose I could've added to that thread as well :D

    Guitar Melee weapons.

 Definitely. (But you could also have added that idea to the already started thread in suggestions. The search function is very easy to use and is your friend!) http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/207497-guitar-melee-weapons/?hl=guitar

    Guitar Melee weapons.

I would add musical instruments. Or at least Guitars. Would be a nice Melee weapon and be even more awesome if you could actually play it somehow. For example when it's in your hands you can use it to bash on Zombies but it will get ruined eventually. BUT, you could scroll wheel and get the option to play. You then get in "play position" and use the "NumPad" as the playing keys. So each key is a Chord/Note on the Guitar so you can play songs. It would bring a lot of colour to some communities such as RP and of course I understand some say "Would you play Guitar during a Zombie outbreak?" I say, "Yeah, yeah I would eventually." Nothing wrong when you're sitting with your friends in a safe secluded place away from the dead, pop out the guitar and forget the crap storm around you for an instant while sipping on a hot pee warm beer you found at the pub.

    DayZ 2.0 - The Sequel

Oooh how about a Guitar Hero Version? DayZzTop!! lol
  19. happiness wears many hats..... sounds like you just need to focus and manage your time better (or some at least). i use DayZ as an "escape" from real life, not a substitute for real life. due to being a bit more established and a very understanding wife (really, she knows she has no choice in the matter) i can pretty much play it whenever i want. i work my 45-50 hours a week, and "play" at least that much--not always DayZ though--not always a game...also play guitar/bass, do home recording, and in the fall i live high school football...literally. now that i am talking about it, i think i could use better time management/focus...there is alot of shit to do around the house....fuck...thanks guy, now i'll feel all guilted out if i play tonite :D take care of whats important and everything else will take care of itself....

    Music?

No, just no. How would you even implement encounter based atmosphere music? That would not work and take any kind of surprise away. But the idea of a guitar is good.
  21. therandomredstone

    Music?

So I think guitars or some sort of acoustic instrument should be implemented. Here are some reasons: -Scary encounters: you see a guy walking in the street with a mask stringing three different cords walking towards you. Pretty scary, especially when he starts running -LETS SING A CAMPFIRE SONG!: Lets say you have a little group, you guys could play the guitar, and.. well.. sing! how fun! -Loneliness sustained: You could be in an abandoned hospital playing the guitar and getting emotional because the world has ended and all. #apocalypse -Don't DO THIS TO ME!: A group of laughable bandits could of kidnapped you and started playing you guitar songs for whatever reason whilst swaying back and forth. Sounds pretty fun don't ya think!? This is how you would use it: You would equip your guitar and click F or your "use" button, then select "play guitar". When you are "playing guitar, a curtain row of keys would be used for stringing, and your mouse or something would be used to "put your fingers" on the handle string part for high/low pitch. Or some other way of using it.. Doesn't really matter..

Is anyone in DayZ Standalone friendly?

The only time i was killed after communicating with someone was when i was sitting in elektro church, singing "beautiful" by james blunt accompanied by guitar. He came up to me and killed me with his shotgun. Instant karma, i guess.
  23. liquidcactus

    Loot on zombies

Indeed.. you should have to search 15+ zombie bodies to find something that is the least amount usefull. For the most part it could be crap like bubble gum or a guitar pick

    Emotions-Possible KOS Deterrent

At that point it would feel more like I'm looking after some Tamagotchi. The game shouldn't give you fake emotions. And if they ever forced me to wiggle around with freshpawns and play guitar by a campfire just so my character didn't automatically commit suicide you can be damn sure I'd uninstall and wait for someone to mod that shit out

    bridge spawn thingie

Happened to me on tuesday, playing on a 40/40 HC server. Must be one hell of an exploit if its not in fact a hack. One guy had a guitar and a song ready to go, plus someone to run his char around pretty sure he was the hacker/exploiter.
