Love the premise and i think we really need to think something like and continue polishing that idea. Here are some thoughts to give you my feedback: 1) The character obviously should not appear asleep on the server or anything like it (like Rust). This will insta kill all players. There ir no safe place in Chernarus. I know you never considered it as a possibility, but someone mentioned it in the comments. 2) It is a great difficulty to "move" what happens to the server weather to a player who is disconnected. That is why the server saves a copy of the player when he log out. This would need a change of technology (which would be interesting) so we need to think how should this work as a whole. 3) I love the idea that the conditions in which you log out have to be considered by the players to give more realism. I think that taking it to the extreme would be very frustrating but there are certain things that could be applied to make things even more difficult and to avoid, with a new reformulation of the system of log out and log in, things like ghosting, server hopping or the "scape log". For example: The effects already existing in your character (hunger, thirst, food, cold, heat, illness) would increase progressively if you log off on the outside. (Or simply when log in again are half of what you had before). To avoid suffering this with the accidental disconnections, this would only apply with each server restart or every x amount of hours (long). This reasoning can be used to avoid server hopping by increasing your character's "weaknesses" (cold, heat, hunger, thirst, etc.) when you jump from server to server. Even more so if one does it on the outside (in a tree, as is usually done near military bases). Now, nothing would be avoided if you disconnected inside, for example, the NWAF prison. But there you run the risk that someone is waiting for you inside. However, there may be exceptional situations where, if you disconnect in a certain place or under certain conditions, when you log in again you appear dead. For example: log out with hypotermia or hyperthermia, log out into the water, log out sick, log out with wolves around your house and agro to you, log out bleeding, among other situations that can be thought of. In other words: I think the idea is very good and needs to be reformulated. Generate new states/status (hunger, thirst, hypotermia, etc) in relation to the place where you disconnect I do not see it very viable, but increasing the existing states (using some very long timer or just the servers restarts) if one does it in the outside world or if you jump from server to server in a shorter period of time (10-15-20 minutes), that could be a good idea. Really enjoy reading and thinking about your ideas dude. Keep them coming.

I dont like or need 3rd-peron- and public-servers. In a survival-simulator you should not have the possibility to have the view of a drone hovering over u. Also teleporting to another dimension of Chernarus with the same toon is not written in the script of how DayZ is ment to be played, i think. So why give us the possibility to do so? It's a freakin jungle of public-servers out there. Way too much in my opinion. Many of them are only for selfish purpose (mostly not enterable or offline). For me it will have no negative consiquences if BI quit private-conrolled-public server, but for many others like clans and such. But i believe these problems can be solved otherwise. Some more easyly conected private-servers or such, or linking 2 private server for a weekend should solve the most problems i think. Dont know if thats possible. I also dont think that that BI can administrate a nessecary amount of servers. I'm also sure there will be less public-servers on the list (what is great in my opinion). I think the public server will turn into a mess of KOS-Deathmatch with all kind of dupers and such which normaly hidden on their servers while doing their dirty business. In this way BI will be much more faced with all that dirt thats happening on public. I also see BI forced eating all the hate that is curently thrown at the "Badmins". Nevertheless the public will always be well needed for the Game itself. Most new players drop into the game on public servers. Many of them come from CoD, Arma and such and turn to realy friendly and inspired players if they understand the deep of the game. Others will not and keep on KOSing, ghosting and duping and such. But thats OK. DayZ is kind of game that can be played in so many ways. This fact was the reason for me to buy this game, and everyone has the same right to play his way. Thats what private-servers are for and if modding-features are added, public will also change dramaticly. Resüme: Its good i dont have to decide this. The game is in Alpha and the public server need adjustment. @BI dont be shy. Start fixing this. You will do some players a favor as u offend others no matter how u do. How is it ment to be played?

I call the public hive the public sewers. Shared shards needs to go, people renting public servers needs to go. The devs have to see all the abuse these owners commit and the players exploit by ghosting or loot farming which is the complete opposite of what the game is supposed to be about. you say we should value our toons well how the hell can we do that when people just go to servers that are empty and loot then go to full pops for shoots and giggles that's not valuing your toon or survival that's deathmatch. if you want dayz to be a game where the life of your toon means something where your time survived means something the public hive definetly needs changes. If not the real dayz game experience will always be on the private servers where it's fairplay due to no shard sharing and community driven thanks to great players and staff of the server. no dumbass loot farming asshat who jumps server to server looking for a short adrenaline rush because he's to lazy to do the work on the server where the damn people are. And if you allow this kind of crap on consoles like renting servers allowing abuse by admins and allowing loot farming then it will dead in the water as soon as it arrives.

For my opinion, Dayz doesnt need public-hives. Serverhopping, ghosting, hackers etc...just no. Or otherwise, just bring basebuiling into the game and the problem would also be solved ;) edit: Joined: July 4, 2012 srsly? 5 years?

Great topic. I personally dislike shared hives due to ghosting as others have mentioned but if we are to have one this change will make it a better introduction to the game than the current state of affairs. If there here is a public hive it should not have private management.
-
I think that's good idea. Only official servers should be on public hive and everything else on private. As far as I know most public hives are anyway not used as they should: - they are treated as gear farms (join and you will be kicked, they are passworded sometimes even thought it shouldn't be possible or owners just turn them off when they leave server) - they are treated as gear hiding spots (Few times when I joined some public non official server with low pop I found tons of tents and barrels filled to the max with gear in places like Cherno, Bere and I mean in the middle of them or near/on general military zones) - they are treated as safe way to travel to you destination. You have own server you gear on, they go on public one and die, so you just switch to your own, grab gear from barrels/tents places in coastal areas, travel to place where you died and log in back on server where you died. I would like to also see some more mechanics that would prevent ghosting. I'm sure you will figure something out.
-
In my opinion public hives should not exist. Every server should be a private hive. The idea of being able to leave one server, join another and still have all the same gear just rubs me the wrong way. It leads to all kinds cheap tactics and things that people do. I know public hive is never going away, so yes not allowing the renting of public servers is a good first step, but maybe also if you leave a server in any way besides crashing or a server reset should start a 10 minute timer to join a server. This would stop these cheap tactics of ghosting/ combat logging.

By not allowing us to rent public servers, I can think of only a couple of reasons that it would be helpful. It would cut down on server admins duping and using it as a personal loot farm. I dont know how much of a problem that really is, though. How many servers are rented by players, and out of all of those how many are using dupe glitches? Even if every single player/server admin used his or her own server for easy loot storage, thats what 1 person and their friends per potentially 60 people? Having gear doesnt always mean you know how to use it either. I have personally been fully kitted out only to be killed by a freshie with a 1911, so I dont really see an issue there. If someone wants to pay 50+ dollars a month to host a server, I dont mind if that 1 person has a ton of gear, legit or not. They arent invincible, and their bases can still be raided. The only other benefit of not allowing public hives to be rented out i can think of is it will end the "high loot" servers and the public servers that kick you when you join. I know its just a name and the loot is the same as every other server, but I wonder if that issue may be solved by just enforcing the terms of service. That would also help curb the kicking on a public server for no reason abuse. Going after the server hosting companies themselves is probably easier than tracking down individual customers who rent the servers. What other benefits would there be from not renting out public servers? Ultimately, I dont think we should have public hives at all. Every server should be its own independent hive in my opinion, even if its "public" or official. I always think of how base building will be affected by public hives. It will be way too easy to break into anyone's base, no matter how intricate or secure it is. Its too easy to jump onto another public server, run to the middle of where you know a base is, and server jump back. Public hives have the potential to ruin base building before that feature is even ready. Also, people use this server hop technique during firefights as well. I honestly can't think of any real benefit to having public hives connected together at all, really. All in all, I think it would be a step in the right direction to not allow public servers for rent, but it's a little like putting a band aid on a bullet hole. It helps a tiny bit, but still leaves the bigger and more common problems of server hopping and server ghosting

I just put up a vanilla Dayz mod server. The first time someone connects after the server restarts, they get stuck on Spawning items. If they wait it out the server tries connecting them again, they get a message about ghosting and after a countdown for antighosting, they get in. Why does this happen?

Attention DayZ Clan or group Leaders, Would you be interested in being a Server Partner on a First Person Server with a single connection to the hive? A new concept for DayZ Standalone has begun with DayZ =FactionZ=, a Multi Clan hosted server that will be relaunching sometime soon. The server will be Private First Person, with a single connection to the hive, with whatever Max population Fragnet has to offer DayZ Standalone (currently at 60 players). The server will have server Admins from various clans on the server! Never a whitelist! No Rules! PVP Focus but several events and other RP opportunities in game. Clans can schedule server RP or PVP events through our Facebook Community. WELCOME TO THE DAYZ =FACTIONZ= Server Page! IP Coming Soon~ DayZ the way the game was meant to be played: First Person (Hardcore mode) Much better players than public servers. Dedicated Server Live! - Multi-Clan server concept - First Person (Hardcore) Private-Hive Game Server: DayZ UN=FactionZ= Hardcore PVP|Private Hive|4HR Restart (Server is currently down - Coming back soon) Our public Discord can be found at: Our version of ts that can hold up to 1,000 players and is FREE: https://discord.gg/cRWYM Join our public Steam Group: http://steamcommunity.com/groups/dayz-factionz This effort is hosted by the =Fish= Clan. We are looking for other DayZ Clans or groups to join us in managing our server, paying server rent, and hosting with active admins to assist our player base. We have united to create a First Person PVP server that will welcome all players and play styles, but focus on Clan Warfare, PVP. and base building. The server already has several small groups committed to supporting its efforts, and between that strong starting point and the numbers in experimental we expect to pack the server from day one. We are currently recruiting players while playing on experiemental branch, so if you would like to join a clan, or form your own with the end goal to join DayZ FactionZ, come stop by our ts while you play DayZ Experimental. The servers on First Person that are similar to =FactionZ= are the UNDERGROUND and the UN servers. Both are packed and getting on those servers is difficult due to their popularity and whitelisting process, so it makes restarting another active First Person Community with a single connection to the hive. If you or your clan would like to be a part of forming this new community, feel free to contact me for all the details and I will answer whatever questions you have about the process. We currently have a base of 20 players from various groups that can populate the server (it will hold 60 players), but we would like to get somewhere between 30-40 players before we roll out the server. We will have only one connection to the hive so there is no ghosting during pvp and no server hoppers that ruin the games loot economy by over-saturating the map with too many weapons, ammo, etc. Great group of people for both social play and PvP. Very solid community with Survivalists, Heroes, Bandits, Cannibals, Kosers, Merchants, etc. We have Clans, groups, and solo players. We will host PVP events, as well as in game challenges that will offer scenarios for Clans or individuals to accomplish a task, such as escort the Prisoner across the map, hold down a tower building for a length of time, Hostage situations, Prison Island Jailbreaks, Treasure Hunts (pvp style), protect the Scientist (who may have developed a cure for the virus), etc. Something for everyone that loves PVP based DayZ. Our FREE Discord can hold 1,000 players and groups wanting to make DayZ =FactionZ= their home. Those interested will be offered a Discord room on our server. We are not looking for donations, but Clans that are interested may eventually be invited to have an admin on our server and also share in the cost. We hope to have each of our founding groups on our server advertising banner, and offer each founding group an Admin, which will allow us to have a Admin present most of the day, to ensure the best DayZ experience possible! Best of luck in your DayZ adventures! A story about the history of =FactionZ= a Multi Clan Server Community (Also may be found in our partner IZurvive stories): My DayZ Diary for = FactionZ= Multi Clan server. We are the Friendly IsH Group, the =Fish= Clan Title: The Crushing of the Faolan (Faolan: Irish Gaelic name composed of the word faol "wolf" and a diminutive suffix, hence "little wolf.") Entry #1: I'm leaving this as my last message to the Clan, In case I don't make it back, I thought I'd leave this note explaining why I've decided to take this great risk. I'd say it's likely this is the last thing you will ever hear from me. I may end up meeting my fate at the hands of the endless line of walkers in Cherno. Or maybe I'll end up as part of the BBQ that this supposed event is offering to survivors. Or perhaps worse I'll end up a prisoner of some rival clan looking to spring a trap and capture the leader of the =Fish= clan. Who knows what nightmares some of those evil bastards might conjure up. I'm deciding to attend this event because I'm hoping for a better tomorrow. I'm hoping for a place where survivors work together and try to recapture what we have lost. I've been told the clans are putting their weapons down. I'm being told that like me others are tired of all the blood that has been spilled and want to see it come to an end. I'm being told there's a chance that we can work together and rebuild society, and figure out a way to end the constant threats from hostile clans, solo maniacs, and the undead hordes that now rule our lands. If I don't make it back from this "event"... Know that I took this risk alone with hope of giving you something more. I've appreciated all of the risks you have taken on behalf of our clan, and the loyalty you have all demonstrated. If this proves to be a trap, or for some reason I don't return soon understand that I left with the hope of finding us all a better life in this Apocalypse. I'll gladly take this risk for you all. I need to get moving if I'm going to make it on time. The event in at Triple Yellow in Cherno at 6 pm est. There are more sniper spots in that area than a Caterpillar has armpits, so its going to be no easy task getting out alive if it is a trap. Just know if it is something sinister I will be taking as many of them down as I can. They will know the =Fish= Clan was here by the body count they will find next to me. The Wolves are supposedly using buses to help folks reach the event. They are driving up and down the coast help survivors reach the destination. Can you imagine those cannibalizing dogs helping anyone but themselves? My first check on this event will be on the Wolves, and if they are deceiving survivors and it's a trap I promise I'll kill every last one of them! But if that group can want peace maybe we have a chance at a new world. If the bus ride does prove to be an honest attempt to unify the clans I'll check out the city and make sure that the other clans are held in check, and not just setting up the rest for an easy Fish bowl type kill. The ReS Clan, |M4 Clan, PuSsHy Squad, the Wolves, Mr. Clan, Jagers Clan, PD420 Clan, USMC Clan, WTM Clan, STUN Clan, TEAMZ, Red Berets, TD Clan, Potato Elites, Taco Clan, Killjoys, CBC, Commerce Alliance Network and any others that show up will all have to be watched. I'm guessing with hunger the way it is the food will have everyone distracted, and it won't help that both men and women will be there. I even heard that an ALL Women Clan was invited, so mix in that with food and drink and everyone will most likely be enjoying the festivities and not looking for attackers. I'll do all I can to get out alive if it goes bad, but if there is even one clan out there wanting to unify for a better world, I'll do all I can to save them. We simply need more friendlies if we are going to stay alive. Lastly, way back I started this event notion when we passed some friendly survivors out in the wilderness. Several Clans were quick to latch on to the notion of a gathering, but I'm not so sure we can trust them. If it proves to be a trap and I don't make it back, kill them all on sight! My hunch is that a group may have something sinister planned and their hate of the Wolves goes back to the early days of the Apocalypse. I wouldn't put it past them to have agreed to all this just to get a chance at murdering their most hated rivals. If shooting starts I've already decided to just erased them all and try to save the friendly clans that really want to live in peace. Lord knows the Wolves wont be worrying about who they harm if it is a trap. It's just more meat on the BBQ for those killers. The have a proven track record of attacking everything the see. It's hard for me to believe we could ever really have peace and rebuild things as long as those groups are walking the earth. I hope you understand why I'm doing this, I'll try to be Friendly Ish. =Fish=Irish Entry #2: As I suspected, it was a trap. As it turns out, the Wolves turned out to be the curs I thought they were. Sure, they provided a "Bus Ride" to the event, but then I spotted them providing ammo to some (TeamZ) clan I have never heard of that attacked the event. For all I know it was the Wolves hiding in sheeps clothing. None of the Wolves showed up until after some of my =Fish= Clan brothers erased TeamZ attackers from inside the event area after they opened fire on innocents. The Wolves then ran to the "Elder Counsel" and complained about our wiping their Clan members after they attacked us. Typical behavior by the dogs of war. The "Elder Counsel" are fools, they asked the Friendly IsH group, =Fish= Clan to 'back off of the Wolves" and not raid their camps nor look to slay them in battle. They don't see the harm that the Wolves cause, as the counsel lives high in the hills behind high walls build for them by the =Fish= Clan, and only come down from their lofty place when it's time for them to protect their godless sons from righteous justice. They have become as corrupt as the curs they defend. Thank God for my loyal brothers in the =Fish= Clan. Had they not arrived on their own and helped defend the innocents I may have fell to all of the attacks those dogs put on the event. In all we killed 3-4 attackers in the event area, including a sniper who came in the event and then ran off after eye balling the location for a prime kill spot. After the initial attackers got off the bus and opened fire, =Fish= Clan brother Kama put two of the dogs down, then (WC) member NaPaLm killed brother Kama with a Shotgun to the Chest. There was nothing I could do as Zombie Dust and I were frantically searching for the Sniper (who turned out to be Dex) when we checked his body after Zombie Dust sent him to his maker. Soon after Kama's death, =Fish= Ghost however erased Dog-boy NaPaLm as he tried to run and hide his cowardly deed. Ghost however fell too when WC Chao sniped him while he checked NaPaLm's dead body from the apartments where he was hiding along side his WC pack members. Once the event cleared out and the innocents were gone, we made a point to track down the cowardly scum that wouldn't come face us and we found them trying to escape the coastal limits. As they ran in fear and engaged us we met them and put them all down, some more than once the way only the =Fish= Clan can do it. We did have brother Ruger injured, but we patched him up and then kept putting the dogs down until they eventually had enough and ran off to their hell hole. In all, we killed every dog that dared come out of the shadows and then found another sniper that tried to assist them. We also confiscated a few vehicles for the trouble they caused. Having two killed at this supposed "peace meeting" has taught me two lessons. First, the most the Clans arrived and attended the event peacefully. Maybe that crazy bunch finally wants to have a lasting peace. Second, The Wolves are dogs. They need a purging. They have no idea what's coming. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. We gave them a chance for peace, instead they chose a path to destruction and then ran to the "Elders" for protection from justice. I guess they will get to see once again just how Friendly Ish the =Fish clan= can be. We are coming. We are bringing hell with us. It won't be over until the Wolves and those that support them are wiped for good. =Fish= Irish Entry #3 ~ Those untrustworthy dogs did it again. They hid in the shadows and killed innocents as they attempted to attend the social event. This time they teamed up with another clan that also hates peace to bring war to another social gathering. The filthy Dogs grouped with the Cannibals and bombed the social, fearful of the Clans uniting in friendship. This was the third time a peaceful event was attacked and still the "Elder Counsel" does nothing. It mean't nothing to them that we chose to meet at the largest church on the coast, that we offered food, drink, and the possibility of cooperation and an end to all the bloodshed. Nine men and women lost their lives and all they wanted was a meal and a chance for peace. Immediately after the explosion we flooded Cherno and a war was already going on. We killed them all, as they were slaughtering unarmed and helpless people. We chased them all the way out of the city, and ended up more than doubling the amount of people killed in the initial explosion. It didn't matter at that point who died, anyone posing a threat was going to be put down regardless of if they were part of the bombing or not. Eventually, those responsible for the bombing parted ways and the dogs fled to the large apartments north of Cherno, while the cannibals fled up the eastern coast to Svetlo. After a few days of searching we caught the dogs sniping innocents again from the tallest towers where thay had established a base, where they murdered on of our clansmen while he was looting. We sieged their towers and killed them all, not a dog survived. We destroyed their Dens and moved north to look for more, but they went into hiding. Eventually I decided to move to Svetlo with a few members of my clan. Suddenly, almost by divine appointment the man who used the explosive at the church was spotted in Svetlo and hunted down. This cannibal begged and pleaded to give them mercy, but we met his pleas with silence as we extinguished his evil over by the trains with a simple single shot to the head. The last words he heard were 'this is for the innocents'... This "Age of FactionZ" has become more vile than ever, I suppose the opportunity we had for peace is long over, and we are entering into another phase of the period known for death, destruction, and ill intent. It's time to focus on saving you and your friends much like when this Apocalypse started over 10 years ago. All that chaos led to so much pain. Families lost, friends turning on each other, and the weak falling to the strong. We still live in what has become known as the age of the "FactionZ," and it's clear what we need to do if we are going to survive through it. We kill every threat, we do whatever we must to survive. Hopefully we will get a chance to find like minded brothers, be they lone wolfs or friendly clans to help make us stronger. I hear tale that some large clans are coming into our homeland from the outmost areas. From the northern bases a military Clan full of mercenary types have sent word that they are on the way, and want to establish order and military rule. They are eager to purge those that seek death and destruction and restore some form of normal life. Many of them defected from the United Nations when it began to purge innocents in their attempt to control the virus. I'm not sure their idea of righteous military rule will be for the better. It could just be empty words that they have little means to back up and carry out. Another group that reached out is the ReS Clan that served as a resistance to the original wave of violence when the United Nations tried to purge certain regions back when the virus first starting turning the undead. They resisted the government with limited resources when it tried to control the population in the early days of infection. Many of them lost their families when the government discovered who they were. Now they too are here and perhaps they will also become a trusted friend, or a bitter enemy. The Clans are growing and getting stronger than ever on "FactionZ=. Well over 20 clans now can this their home. All of them with different ideas for social justice and what our future should hold. Only time will tell if we can achieve a lasting peace, but between that time and now there is some hunting to do to purge the land from the evil that the Apocalypse has created. Perhaps it is time to fight fire with more fire. Force with force. The age of the "Crushing of the Faolan" has begun in =FactionZ=. It is time for payback the next time the Wolves gather! =Fish=Irish ENTRY #4 * The next time the Wolves and Elders Counsel gathered: Operation: Faolan Crush

Go play privates mate. A small queue for a private is worth it imo. We (a group of 5) run on grumpy old gamers. Loot is there if you look for it. KOS is there but way less on pubs. If you want to hop, stay public If you want run gun pvp fest, stay public If you want a diverse/ghosting/in and out community, stay public If you want the experience you described, go private. (Whitelist is even better )

The public hive is an interdimensional warfare simulator, and I'm not sure if it should change, even if it could. I'm not too hip to people ghosting into a base, but that's why I prefer to hide mine well, to begin with.

Gameplay Q&A with Lead Gameplay Programmer Miroslav Maněna
BCBasher replied to Baty Alquawen's topic in News & Announcements
There was some mention of a system to prevent server hopping/ghosting and moving to what would be inside the walls of a base the hopping back and spawning inside, I'd assume they'd be smart enough to have some system to prevent AI from spawning inside too. -
Identify players with Binoculars, Longrange scope etc.

2. Well that explains a lot lol. Private servers have hundreds and thousand members, you would meet a lot of people. Plus, it's a post apocalyptic scenario, it isn't supposed to be Times Square with all the new faces out there... 3. That was my suggestion, read the link -.-. Too easy? :D You can't hop on most private servers. This means that you will have a HARD time finding barrels for your base. You can't escape combats "ghosting" or combat logging during encounters (both are strictly forbidden, and you get a ban) Since you can't hop and find "safe" servers for your bases, you (and the rest of the community) have a quite limited quantity of spots for your bases. Which means that they get raided quite often. And you end up with nothing a lot of times. Since you can't afford to die (you gonna "lose" your game), you will be quite afraid of most encounters and scream as a b*tch if you hear a car or people talking near to you. You will think VERY carefully any excursion to a military base or a big city, and any gun shot near you will make you think twice before going in your previous direction You can also combine this goal with another (like hunting bandits or cannibals), it will add a little bit of sauce to the mix ;) I mean, just try to survive a couple of months. I dare you! :) Hunting in real life isn't funny. No one is hunting you at the same time. About the bandits: 1. You stalk towns and high traffic areas and wait till you see unfriendly encounters, wait to see who's the "bad" guy, and hunt him (or them) 2. You engage in communication with "friendly" players, get to know the rumors (bad looking guys in X town, Y minutes ago; somebody just robbed me, or tried to kill me, etc stories), start your human hunting from there. 3. You engage in communication with players and wait to see how "friendly" they're, if they're not, you escape, then stalk them and kill or seek for a cruel revenge (like taking them to the forest, breaking their legs, putting a bag in their head, with their hands tied, and leaving them to die) 4. Private servers have established "bad" groups/factions. They usually have defined territories and patrol them often, you can hunt them there. (Of course if they don't kill you first, which is the most likely outcome) -
Ghosting is really a public concern, unless private hives are linked. Cable reel will be for placing power to lights all around the base. You need to link the power someway. Have you ever ran an extension cord from a gas generator?

Mini Game Scenarios rather than just Open World PVP

That's what I like about playing on a single connection (no slaves) to the hive. None of all that needs to be done. Single connection makes Ghosting impossible. -
Mini Game Scenarios rather than just Open World PVP
DR. IRISHMIKE replied to DR. IRISHMIKE's topic in General Discussion
Of course Event Nights with Mission Scenarios can be done on any type of server, publics and servers with multiple connections to the hive are at a HUGE disadvantage. Multiple connections to the hive not only allow for a ruined loot economy, but players will also use ghosting to log into advantageous positions to thwart the mission in game. Private Hives with a single connection offer a more secure Mission environment and typically much better players. We haven't had any events "griefed" because when the event is pvp based on a single hive, there is no "wiggle Room" for cheating. There is no RP demands outside of accomplishing the in game mission for that night. If you read through the examples of Missions we have played so far, you can see that "griefing" is just not possible. That's part of the beauty of PVP based missions over RP type Missions. There is a trend going on in DayZ right now. Players with the most experience are moving towards First Person Private servers. -
DayZ Standalone Base Building is almost here! How do you plan to use it?
ZomboWTF replied to DR. IRISHMIKE's topic in General Discussion
i have played both dayZ origins with it's "impenetrable" houses and clan fortresses, and the approach of building bases with singular parts and a plot pole from DayZ Epoch, both had it's flaws, and that was even without the complications of sharing a hive with another server and ghosting into a base if bases are easy to break in to, they will serve as a way of getting combat advantages, and thats the only thing they should be used as bases to store stuff safely, for example gear and vehicles, should never be a thing, they simply can't work well in a game like DayZ 1) You can't make storage bases to well protected, they become impenetrable when defended, and attackers simply wont bother, resulting in a game like Rust oe DayZ Epoch 2) You can't make them to little protected, because then an attack during which every clan member is offline is to easy, since you aren't actually "sleeping" in the base, realistic weak materials aren't translated well into DayZ The only real option would be well hidden bases, but then again you have the problem of hackers being able to see where these hidden bases are with some kind of overlay, which is very hard to detect and even harder to reasonably say "that guy hacked because he found our base", you never know, maybe he just got lucky the length of this discussion should point towards how many aspects basebuilding, in the way the devs want to make it, has permanent bases are just either completely useless or OP, there is almost no middle ground due to the nature of the game and people having real lifes besides DayZ the only thing that would make weak bases for storage viable would be NPC defenders, but that goes way beyond what DayZ should be IMO i think if the devs should concentrate on the core mechanics, zombie and playercount, performance, survival and the difficulty to survive WAY before even touching basebuilding -
DayZ Standalone Base Building is almost here! How do you plan to use it?
Luc Tonnerre replied to DR. IRISHMIKE's topic in General Discussion
Ok, lets all take a deep breath and try to understand what Brian Hicks actually said in OPs video link :) In my opinion there is nothing wrong with degrading items since it helps keeping the servers from being overflodded by loot-goblins. He also mentioned that there will be a quick and easy way to "update" your base (probably similar to "maintaining" the base via a plot-pole like in dayZ overpoch/epoch) I really don't think the devs are so short-sighted that they will fail to come up with a solution for this. Right now my concerns are how the loot-economy will react if a small group of players hoard thousands of items in their bases. Will stuff still spawn in towns or in military locations? Not to mention the possibility of "ghosting" into another players base on public servers. Also, like in the mod, it will be up to the server admins to clean their servers once in a while when they notice that bases are abandoned and the owner left the server. @IRISHMIKE personally I hope there will be no artificial restrictions on where I am allowed to pitch my tent or build my base. As long as the engine allows it, there should not be a rule against building on tripple-yellow. I know it's crap if a clan owns this spot and starts to harrass all players in cherno, but hey, that's DayZ :) Survival of the fittest :) If there is an OP base on tripple yellow, I want to see the rest of the players trying to take it down instead of having some "rules" that would forbid building there. It's just more dynamic and realistic imo. -
DayZ UN=FactionZ= Multi Clan Server (HARDCORE PVP)
DR. IRISHMIKE replied to DR. IRISHMIKE's topic in Servers
The server will be based in the central USA, likely Dallas on Fragnet. It will have whatever the largest population offered is, and have only one connection to the hive in order to prevent ghosting in PVP and server hoppers (ruins the games loot ecomomy). Eventually when the mods come out, we will have an extensive game scenrios (missions) for solo players and clans to enjoy. Some of the mods will be missions where groups need to fight through large groups of zombies to achieve their goal, etc. We hope to have you check it out. If nothing else, you can go to the Server FB page and introduce yourself and your clan playstyle, members, etc and recruit players there or schedule pvp events with other clans. If you don't have a clan, its a great place to speak live with clans that are recruiting on the FB page or in ts. Our ts server can hold up to 300 players, so if you visit during peak hours there should be some clans in there to meet. We will even create a clan ts room for you on request. Good luck and have a great time on your DayZ adventures! -
- Are public servers still a feature of 1.0? If yes, how do you plan to stop ghosting (two squads fighting; one guy logs out, joins another server->behind the enemy lines->logs out; joins back on the first server to kill the enemies) and server hopping for loot? - How will moving things like engines or other heavy parts be designed? Will one player alone be able to carry e.g. an enigne in hands, on back, inside backpack? Or will we need other survivors to carry together heavy things in hands? Maybe other craftable/lootable tools to support the survivor on his way (trailers)? Thank you for your time! :-)

I personally would say this is the truth for me. In 3pp it's not DayZ for me, even on 3pp servers, I play in 1pp but I don't think they will remove it from DayZ. DayZ is 1pp and private hive, no wall peeking, mil hopping and ghosting...at least for me. These things make it too easy, maybe this will change in the future but I doubt it. How should the devs balance this? The only balance is remove 3pp and public hives from the game.

Picking up your gear after you die.
therandomredstone replied to Kohlbar's topic in General Discussion
Come to think of it, I thoroughly enjoy playing as a freshspawn. Whenever I die after spending 4-5 hours looting and having fun inland - I'm like "thank god!" I love the thrill of staying alive, but it also annoys the hell out of me. When I'm a freshspawn, I hang around coasts and make friends. I know it's disapproved by some people, but it keeps my focus off of loot. Whatever keeps out server hopping, ghosting, hiding, camping, am I right? -
The login/log out timers help prevent combat logging and help take the edge off of ghosting. Both simple solutions to huge problems when you can warp between realms. Also "Stable, Smooth, Simple, Fun" does not discredit my suggestion in anyway. A lengthy death timer is a simple solution for creating value and investment into each toon's lifespan. Fun is perspective, as trendy as it is to say, catering to everyone's "fun" aspect generally is the fall of cult classic titles . Adding a lengthy death timer is a much simpler solution then adding beards and skill pools which are already planned in development. Stable and Smooth are easy boxes to check, because the majority of the framework stability wise and transition into death wise, are already there.
