    Curiosity peaked

Ether way the entire thing is going to scream KOS until otherwise noted. I'm still baffled bicycles are being put on a lower profile for development and were getting the more high end vehicles first.

    Kills/trophy's/crafting

This is ALPHA running on ancient tech. For example, the upcoming changes to the character animation system and stamina system are going to change how you move through everything. Running and sprint distances, melee, weapon sway, and many other things will be effected by this. That's just a couple of features on the near horizon that will change how you play. Loot/ammo scarcity, advanced medical, dangerous infected, advanced vehicles, base building, soft skills.... Please, go read the status reports until your eyes glaze over.... it's all in there.

    Ideas From Exile

Tbh Exile has been my affair behind DayZs back. So much of the details in this Mod would be great for DayZ. The ability to Armor vehicles with scrap metal that you place specifically where you want it. Having to place your larger items (bags, tents, axes, storage) in specific areas on the seats or dash. Hell, even the zombie AI is fairing better at this point until we get that new update were all waiting for :p I dunno, I live DayZ but Exile is gonna be my new thing until DayZ is fully finished and kicks Exiles ass. Then I'll wait for DayZ Standalone: Exile :p

They're extremely valuable for scouting and transport. Just because it doesn't have guns doesn't mean it's not incredibly useful for pvp, and as such a threat. Besides, we're supposed to get the ability to shoot from vehicles and this one's been shown to have skids. It's likely you'll be able to do just that, though it will basically be a death wish.

    The Dead Walk

thanks for calling out our server. Here's a few more details: [dayzmod]The Dead Walk has been around for a while and we're trying to get some more regulars playing. There have been times when we've peaked at 40, but we're more likely to have ~20 on a busy weekend. It's based on vanilla, but I recently added a bunch of buildings from ixxo and the joker packs. There are a some new spawn locations for vehicles (so you can't just rely on google) and all of the vehicles have a custom spawn loadout (possible with 1.8.6). The Zombies walk so people are your problem. The loot tables have been tweaked so there is plenty to be found. Don't get me wrong, this is not epoch, but you can get going quick. Finally, missions are enabled. Once in a while we'll turn on the AI (with notice). Active admins. Info: Max Players: 40 Vehicles: ~75 (~6 helis) Physical Server Location: NY Restart timer: 6 hours (3am/9am/3pm/9pm ET) Battleye: Enabled 3rd Person IP: 23.229.0..3:2402 Any questions?

    Exact Vehicle Inventory Location

My idea is that vehicles would have multiple inventory locations on them and are only accessible by looking at them and opening them. For example the car that is being released you could obviously go to the rear of the vehicle and you would have to open the trunk to access the inventory of only the trunk. Then you could look at the glove box and it would have a separate inventory to place items but only accessible by actually opening the glove box. You could do this with many areas of a vehicle to make it feel very realistic and not just walk around the vehicle with your inventory open. I'm not sure what would be possible for the V3S Chassis since it has no realistic place for items to go besides the cab. Suggestions after this implementation would be the ability to physically see items in these locations when you open them up. Also if the vehicle were to get shot at and a bullet penetrated a certain area, just like clothing you wear, items in the vicinity of the penetrated bullet could be damaged. I'm not sure if this could be implemented because of vehicles already in the game and you would probably have to back track but I could see this in the game of DayZ and it would fit in so well with the type of game it is. I hope you guys take in my suggestion and hope I'm credited, lol.

The problem with the game. My views

I doubt it - many people have looked for and found other games instead, remaining is the PvP only crowd. Due to map size and time you need to find players for PvP some of these will be put off sooner or later as well. When my exam is done I'm also going to see whether I continue with DayZ or another game. My best game buddy is mainly PvP but even he thinks it gets kind of boring. We Let's just wait and see, there is nothing we can do about it anyway. If it's mostly vehicles/transport clothin and guns as work in progress, then it just is that way. I'm in no way pissed, I bought into an experimental not knowing exactly where it goes. If I think it's not my thing, I'll have to look for another game sooner or later, that's just life. That said, 3 months in, ARK still has more than 35,000 avg players, more than DayZ ever had on average. Not saying ARK is better and currently I can't play any game due to time constraints, but ARK at least has tried to make interaction a bit more meaningful, although from what I gather it still is a long way to go. DayZ's reaction was adding more guns - not so cool and combined with abundant food, no threats and guns popping up like smarties, it killed anything apart from KOS. I might ask two questions: - What do you gain from player interaction other than a bullet? What reward could it potentially bring, if you have everything three times over? - If you decide not to KOS/PvP, what can you do once geared? Horticulture when your backpack is already bursting from canned food? Hunting when being stuffed is a bigger threat than being hungry? What this game still lacks is content, content, content. New vehicles, new guns are not adding content, they are basically expanding the KOS model.

    Anyone else miss the NEAF?

To be honest I would prefer a bicycle over a damn helicopter and military vehicle any day. And its not because of traversing the map in any shorter amount of time its that its much easier to fix than most vehicles you will find on the market in the real world today. As long as your carrying the right bicycles tools and maybe a backup spare tire tube, mini bike pump, etc your good to go for many miles. And bicycles are the way to go for silent travel unlike a car or plane.
  9. Shooting from vehicles is the bee's knees.
  10. With what? The mod had .50 cal anti-material rifles like the AS50 that could bring down a helicopter a mile away. Are people going to shoot down a gunship with a handful of pistol rounds? As Mark Darkers said, they had helos in the Mod and it wasn't an issue. Even the 1000 vehicles, dozen helicopters servers, it wasn't like the sky was filled with helicopters Apocalypse Now style. I've found / stole helicopters in the Mod on vanilla servers, and unless you have a clan of a dozen guys guarding a permanent base, it's not all that it's cracked up to be. It is actually tough to see people from the air. Everyone for miles will come running when you come in for a landing. They take forever to fuel.
  11. I suggested something similar ages ago - with a forklift so you could then use as a gate to a base. A couple of construction vehicles late in development (and maybe even using those cranes to shift construction material) would be cool for more serious base-building later in development. Not holding my breath though.

The problem with the game. My views

Food: There are apple trees and berry bushes in literally every settlement on the map. If you starve, it is because you are too lazy to search for them. And I totally find plenty of canned food and sodas, you just have to look in back sheds and such, instead of the more obvious spots. Clothing: AHAHAHAHA. You literally stumble across GORKA, TTSkO, and helmets, berets, vests, and plate carriers at the military bases. Thing is: those are "supposed" to be "end-game" (for lack of a better term) pieces of equipment. You use the civilian backpacks and clothing until you get to military zones. Or, if you are halfway competent, you make your own backpack (arguably the most effectively camouflaged one in the game, to boot) with improvised rope (combine two 6-stacks of rags), some sticks, and a burlap sack. Firearms: awesome. While firearms should be decently common, ammunition should be relatively rare. There are no more factories making new bullets, and the stockpiles have been steadily burnt through for the last few weeks/months. Hold onto an empty firearm until you find the ammo. .308 Winchester is relatively common, and fits in some of the "better" firearms in the game, both of which do not require magazines (the B95 Blaze double-rifle [my favorite, hands down], and the WInchester) Vehicles and parts: What do you expect? When the game is actually released (I hope I don't have to tell you the game is STILL IN ALPHA at this point), the only people likely to have motorized vehicles are larger, more organized clans. Playing "Lone Wolf" should totally be more difficult than playing with friends. Humanity organized into clans and tribes for a reason.
  13. Loot? WTF is loot? It's got to the point where there is nothing in the servers. Areas where there was loot, no loot there now. I would hate to count how many times i starved trying to find one can of Beans. Clothing, now if you want a tracksuit or scrubs no problem but if you want pocket slots good luck. Guns and ammo, fun thing about those 2 are if you find one you never find it's match. Backpack, my kingdom for a decent backpack. This game is for teams now the single player will travel the map for a hand full of useful loot. I'm not going to mention vehicles and parts(team efford again). Is it me or is this boat sinking!

  16. Inviting all DayZ players. Please note: This is plain jane DayZ. Not Epoch. Not Overpoch. You aren't going to spawn in, trip over two or three cars on the way to your attack helicopter and have full military grade gear in under ten minutes. Don't waste your time if that's what you're expecting. And, our Zeds will mess you up (if you let them). We are not a Vanilla server though, because we DO have more vehicles available (about 55, give or take) and you do spawn with some better items. Most of the other settings are out of the box DayZ settings. The standard DayZ Mod does have base building features. You can build walls and gates, for example. But, there are no rules on base raiding or trashing. So, choose your location and layouts wisely. If someone finds your stuff and wants to trash or take it, the only thing that's stopping them is you ... if you happen to be there to do so. Peace out!

  18. SAK makes good point. If you don't want to kill, then be a man-hunter/tracker => hawkeye/spy/tracker/shadow-walker/woodsman/ninja/thief => It's a whole different way of playing. Since the days of the Mod, once vehicles and tents and stashes were well established, stalking has always been a respectable profession. Move on the map. Know the region. For instance move and check till you spot a truck spawn. dont go near it - get up in cover on a hill and keep eyes on; Plant a crop while you're waiting? Sooner or later someone will turn up and find it. You'll see that 50%+ of players will hide it somewhere close, mess around, and use it as a base/stash.. others will drive off in it looking for loot or fun, or back to their tents if they already got any. When you know what's happening you decide your move - follow, move on, wait, see if their friends show, steal it now ? You have the advantage, you got eyes on them, they don't know you're there. This play takes different skills and a different mindset from PvP. You learn to move in cover, change location, know the approaches, watch, follow, know how to get out of the way fast (is useful). Learn the players - you'd be amazed how many players do exactly the same thing in a situation, have the same reaction, take the same decisions, make the same move, hide stuff in the same places. But (heh) remember there's always one player smarter than you, He's on the map somewhere right now. He's got the skills and the experience, so if he finds a truck spawn he might surely circle round to check if someone's overlooking it. Maybe he was there first and he already watched you go to ground. It's a new game in DayZ SA. Some folk do this full time (but you don't have to). Pretty often nothing happens at all, you move on, check, maybe check back later, there's a lot of "nothing happens" and then sudden situations. This is the fair honest play method, [You can play this totally without going looking for loot farms, or those 4-person public servers that kick soon as you log in - because their tents are right by the airfield, natch, somewhere real easy to get to - but then they go away hopping for loot, and also they have to sleep sometime, so ya can take note and log back sooner or later when they're not around - But IMO all that 'my-server' hopping/farming play is just for duckheads ] .. Yo can make a honest manly healthy living and survive on just one populated server as a savvy-ranger-ninja, don't even need a gun really, just need your skill and wits, stay sharp and know the terrain. xx and - as folk already said in this topic - ya don't REALLY want an M4, (and anyways you'll probably be dead by the time you read this so your mags will be gone). You want an AK (hmm, my kinda joke) - or more likely you need any rifle with a scope or a sawn-off or a pump gun. Mags are going to get scarcer, so when you track down someone's stash, take any auto-weapon mags or ammo cartons, or even loose rounds, and throw them away in a bush. Up the odds in your favor.

    Status Report - 23 Sept 2015

+ I really appreciate progress on the new renderer + I like the more realistic flair on something - all I read is weapons, weapons, vehicles, weapons and weapons. Nothing about content apart from shoot, spray, pray. Looking forward to 0.59, though, should finally have time to play again from mid next month on :)

    Status Report - 23 Sept 2015

Thanks for word regarding the current state of infected bug fixing. Feel free to throw in a few "infected spawn on" servers to 0.59 experimental. :) Edit: the dirt bike (known strangely as motorcycle in the mod) was one of my favorite vehicles as a solo player because it was easier to get running by yourself.
  21. To put things in context: -DayZ was a front runner of the zombie survival genre when it entered development/early access. -It's close to two years later, and there have not been substantial improvements. Yes, there is plenty of different types of loot and buggy vehicles, but the fact remains that core game mechanics are probably worse than they intially were. -The zombie survival genre has opened up in the past 2 years, and games like H1Z1 have completely eclipsed and overshadowed DayZ. -The devs are completely delusional. They still think that the Beta will be ready this year (I remember when there similar talk this time last year.) -Instead of fixing the core mechanics of the game, such as the insane D-synch and glitchy collisions, the devs focus on releasing endless streams of broken/semi-functional content, and filling the rest of the updates with tons of clothes/weapons which add nothing to gameplay except throw the already poor loot mechanic system out of balance. -The game in its current state is like the devs are actually trying to make optimisation worse. It was never good in the first place, but now it's pretty much unplayable. I was really hopeful for this game, but over the last 9 months I've totally lost faith in it, and I expect to see the plug-pulled within the next 6 months to a year. Do. Not. Buy.
  22. Evening Survivors, In this week's Status Report our Lead Producer Brian Hicks fill us in on subjects such as the CLE and a bit on work on the engine. Also, Lead Designer Peter will be commenting on work that has been done in regards to firearms. Contents This Week Development Board SpotlightDev Update/HicksDev Update/PeterCommunity Spotlight: Blazerunner70 Development Board Spotlight Dev Update/Hicks Greetings Survivors! Much to the delight of our reddit community (I'm certain) we'll be covering some points on the ongoing refinement of DayZ's in game economy this week, as well as talking about some upcoming content to the game, and a quick recap on the progress of upcoming engine changes for Enfusion. Lastly, Peter will talk briefly about future changes to how ammunition is handled in DayZ. Don't forget to keep your eyes and ears open during TwitchCon - as I'll be speaking about Aerial Transport, Contaminated Terrain, and an additional little surprise I hope you'll all be excited for as I am. (This should be hosted on twitch.tv/dayz) We've normalized the 0.58 stable branch economy around 27,000 minimum spawned items across Chernarus. The most prevalent items of course are clothes, tools, and resources required to survive. Internally we've begun setting the system up to apply lifetime to items upon their creation (spawning) so that player interaction with items is no longer required. This should take the economy a step further towards keeping things robust and moving. Region control is the next major step for the economy, which will allow us to restrict certain items to spawn only in certain regions - This way we can ensure more of those basic supplies are kept spawning on the coast to ensure folks have what is required to move inland, regardless of player traffic. For 0.59 we'll begin experimenting with making civilian firearms a little more prevalent, and ammunition will begin to be more of a rarity. The desired effect being that ammunition itself will have an increased value, so that the decision to take that shot has more factors to it. That said, loose ammunition types that are used by civilian weapons as well as military have had their potential loot spawns expanded so it can be found throughout Chernarus. (7.62x39 for the IZH, 45 ACP for the 1911, and so on) Issues with duplication, and magazine quantity manipulation have been identified and are being resolved, and NATO military gear will be moving out of the Quonset Hut Barracks and back to their proper NATO chopper crash spawns. The art team is working on finalizing the upcoming Enduro Dirtbike model, which will hopefully be joining the vehicle distribution in 0.60. This vehicle will probably be our most accessible type, but like all other vehicles will need the proper parts, and operational fluids to maintain and use. On the engine side the team is working hard towards a functional merge for several areas, keep in mind just merging these modules and systems are just the beginning. Configuration, testing, and iteration will need to occur. - Renderer has entered initial functional testing with internal Q/A - Animation System development is in progress, and the animation team is working closely with the programmers to begin testing/implementation. - Network Optimization is a top priority, with issues such as player desync, gunshot sounds, and vehicle position being tied to this work. Network profiling tools will be used on 0.59 experimental branch servers so we can gather data on exactly what is occurring. - Damage System is being configured, and under initial testing with Q/A & Design Team - Physics System has had several key issues resolved that may be related to some of the Infected AI server costs. This is under test/investigation - Infected Bugfixing is still under way, and daily test passes are being run against the commits We've got a lot of work ahead of us in the coming months, so please make sure to file any issues and bugs you see over at the Official Feedback Tracker. - Brian Hicks / Lead Producer Dev Update/Peter Firearms, who doesn’t like them? They equal power. One can obtain food through hunting animals, defend oneself against infected or even hostile survivors. There are firearms related mechanics which were added specifically for DayZ’s requirements such attachments, modifications, chambering and others. Also former functionality of weapons such as machine guns, rocket launchers or underslung grenade throwers will be brought back. To get closer to authenticity of firearms some changes to their handling are being currently implemented. Chambering became a real part of the weapon instead of invisible magazine with 1 bullet count. This will allow players to attach a magazine to a chambered weapon effectively increasing the amount of available bullets which wasn't possible before. Reloading is also being revamped, as R-key will be dedicated to the manipulation with weapon like manually cycling the bolt, pull back charging handle in case of jam or even rolling the drum of revolver when you decide to play lethal games with some friends. Don't worry about losing R-key for reloading. As a replacement for R-key you will be able to reload your gun directly from the quickbar by choosing the corresponding slot with magazine in it. Magazines will be swapped during reloading action. Also loose ammunition will work in same way, choose right slot and gun will be chambered. Another nice change is that bullets in magazines/piles are no more just numbers of amount but are really independent objects which means they can contain ammo of different quality. Combination of damaged ammunition and non maintained gun leads to higher possibility of jams. With different type of ammunition in magazines, tracers will experience their comeback and help us to revive night gameplay a bit. Keep your pockets organized... see you in Chernarus folks! - Peter / Lead Designer Community Spotlight: Blazerunner70 Excellent, I was lucky to stumble across a small cluster of random DayZ gems on Youtube. Yep, there's a nice mix of friendly player interaction, a bit of pvp, and a bit of roleplay. The videos were created by Blazerunner70, and although the videos are a couple of months old, they still do show the kinds of adventures that players can come across in DayZ. Now, the audio levels are a bit off but the content of the videos is quite nice still. Saving bambis, one pumpkin at a time :D Hopefully you'll enjoy the videos as well, and as always, if you have some nice DayZ videos you can always go to the Gallery on the DayZ forums and share them with us. Until next week everyone, stay healthy, stay safe! Header image credit: ṂҒ | Marzipan - Michael aka SMoss / Community Manager
  23. Funkmaster Rick

Kicking from Vilayer server IS ALLOWED.

Well, the vast majority of us care, Baker. Many of us remember how it was in the mod days, and do not wish to return to that untamed wilderness. Another major consideration is that people who pay for servers are getting the option to gear up free from harassment by other players, an option those of us who merely paid for the game do not have (unless one keeps strictly to low-population servers, a tactic generally regarded as only acceptable for newer players still learning the basics). These server admins then come onto other servers on the public hive, and they kill people. When they die, they get to gear up again on an empty server. This is an advantage. They are paying money for this advantage. But they're not supposed to be able to buy that kind of safety and then still interact with the more disadvantaged players - it's just plain dirty, and nobody respects a man who buys his way into victory. Also, when we're allowed to host our own servers, this should still matter. To maintain a successful server, you need consistent, reasonably high population numbers. A server with less than ten concurrent players during peak hours is a dying server. As DayZ is primarily about player interaction, prospective players will naturally gravitate towards servers with more people on them (the only exceptions being when someone wants to gear up the dirty way, or perhaps play solo with a friend without being disturbed) - in this sense, servers with high consistent numbers during peak hours are self-sustaining in terms of player recruitment. There were lengthy periods in the mod days where many of the 'standard' servers were dying while those servers that promised hundreds of vehicles and massively increased loot were the only self-sustaining ones around. A player looking for a server had a choice of playing DayZ authentically but having very infrequent interactions (thus disregarding the primary draw to the game itself), or to play on a server where 'stuff' is plentiful but there are few survival considerations other than inventory management and shooting people. I think the community in general would prefer it if authentic servers were still a reasonable option.
  24. Haven't played much since 0.55, but I'm again into it now and have few questions. Prisons I've checked have basically no loot at all. I haven't yet fully comprehended how the current loot economy works, so is this because prison item spawns are not working how they are supposed to, or is the just stuff looted and won't respawn there? Would prisons be empty in such places as Balota or International airfield too? Does fishing work again? This one I could figure out myself but being a lazy bugger I am, thought to ask it here first. Third thing is more a comment than a question. I'm reading that there will be 75 player servers in near future, and already 0.59 will introduce several new vehicles. Big changes, feels like civilization is making it's way to the post apocalyptic borderland, and while I definitely want to drive Sedan in a 75 player server ... I'm still happy I started to play early enough to have experiences in more "primitive" Chernarus.

    Vest with weapon sling attachment.

I support this only because double gunning is currently poorly developed as you can't even go into vehicles while double gunning.
