Stable Branch - 0.57 Discussion

I can buy the "waiting to release animation" excuse.  Sorta.  Then again, many things are implemented with the incorrect animation.

 

I was under the impression that balance wasn't a priority, considering the aforementioned flare gun and cooking pot, especially during alpha production.  And if they knew it wasn't going to be in stable, why would they list in the changelog that this crafting with barrels is now available?

 

I have no problems whatsoever with waiting.   But when I spend a non-trivial amount of time looking for new items in the game, because they're in the changelog, and then to realize they aren't even in the game, it's kind of frustrating.   Totally avoidable frustration.

 

What changelog were you following?

 

The unofficial one?

 

DayZ is going to be super janky and feature poor for a long time.

 

It's important to remember this and exercise patience in this lengthy and unpredictable process, and try not to come off sounding entitled when you make requests.

 

This is 1 patch out of how many before it and how many to come...?

 

There's so much to look forward to and this is patch is a stepping stone on the path to DayZ.

  • Protector Case, couldn't believe it when I found this. 6 slots instead of 4. I think the point of this and the medical kit is to protect the things inside of them instead of to add space.

300rnd Box - In 0.55, took 4 slots and allowed for 10 slots of ammo. Now takes 4 slots and holds 4 slots of any kind of items.

 

Additional Pouches - In 0.55 took 8 slots and held 10 slots worth of items. Now takes up to 10 slots and holds 10 slots.

 

Protector Case - In 0.55, took 4 slots and held 6 slots worth of items. Now takes 6 slots and holds 6 slots.

 

Medkit - In 0.55, took 4 slots and held 6 slots worth of medical items. Now takes 4 and holds 4 of any kind of items.

 

I would bet everything I own that the introduction of the new inventory matrix and the subsequent patches and fixes that were necessary to get the new module stable broke the crap out of these "special" inventory items. I suspect that we will see them fixed within the next patch or two at most and back to working the way we expect.

I decided to try the “heli crash camping” thing to see if I could get lucky.  I made my way to one of the three known chopper locations, set up in a tree line and waited for the restart. When the time came I logged in and holy $hit the fireworks. It appeared that three other guys logged in at the same time and it was gunfight at the OK corral.  I emptied 25 rounds from my RAK and may have got luck and hit the helicopter but that’s the last thing I remember before I pulled a Jason Bourn and woke up in Kamyshovo. But I wasn’t whipped yet. It was all just bad timing and I was determined to search a virgin chopper.  Over the next couple hours I made my way back up to Stary and positioned myself for the restart and when the time came I logged in. I peeked out to assess the hazard, and damn! There’s a geared guy on the crash.  I’m no match with my trumpet so I re-log on another server. I glass the area and it looks clear so I sprint for the crash. Get right up to the chopper and zip snap, I start taking fire. I run for the hills and make it out alive but not without injury.  Get myself patched up drop my ruined gear and re-log.  As I was running back to the chopper location I could hear gun fire coming from that direction. Log out, Log in. I crotch and crawl to the heli site and glass the area. No one in site. Every second I sit brings possible encounter so it’s go time. I make my move and get down to the bird. I see a pair of boots, a blue beret and….I see the beach at Three Valleys.  Piss on this, I’m going back home to the hills of Novo where I belong. What I learned is: You got to be geared to go camping for gear in the NW and it wouldn’t hurt to have squad support.  

 I’m looking forward to random chopper spawns again.

Well i just got broken legs then instant death standing in a police station next to my wife. Good to see that players can still perform DayZ magic even using the same scripted spell's as in the mod, and things were looking so promising.

Were you on the upper floor? I have had legs broken or random death for being on the second floor of any building. Especially those red ones.

There's also a lot of client > server delay on some servers versus others (i.e. takes a few seconds after completing eating an apple to post the text "I have eaten an apple"). Often when the server has a very high population.

 

If they really want to have 75+ player servers, we'll need a big netcode rework so that there isn't desync and high latency to normally low ping servers.

 

 

 

Maybe Hicks could use a SR to comment further on the "firm red line on server side performance for stable branch" that was announced in the Status Report from May 27.  This was the SR that also announced that infected would not be in 0.57 Stable due to the performance issues.  We know that didn't end up being the case.

 

Are they meeting this "firm red line" in Stable so far?  How do they know?  What statistics do they check?  Do they receive reports from all of the GSP's?

 

With around 30 players, most servers seem okay.  On the =UN= server this evening it was a full 50/50 and the desync and delay performing actions was nearly (but maybe not quite) as bad as 0.55.

I wouldn't be surprised if the devs were working over the weekend to sew up some major issues with stable.

 

If they are working on some hotfixes to make stable more er.... stable, that will be pushed early next week, it also doesn't makes sense to release a change log yet.

 

.57 will be their release number but the build may not be "gelled" enough yet or truly stable in the sense that it will work well and not deteriorate too much out on the hive while experimental gets worked on....

 

TL;DR - I'm guessing we're due for some hot fixes early next week but experimental patches are just as good to me... :P

I found a COW today, YES TODAY, it mooed at me then it R-U-N-N-O-F-T'd!!!!!!!  It was in the usual place in the village west of Vybor, between the grocery store and the graveyard.  I didn't have the heart to shoot it.

 

Still have not seen an AK101 anywhere or even a magazine for an AK 101, no loose or boxed 5.56mm either for that matter so why the hell would I want one?  AKM's, the 74's and the mags for both can all be found at the guard shacks and/or the wrecked HMMWV's.  Military sites and airfields are pretty much deathtraps that are also a big fat waste of time.  At Pavlovo base and the Prison all I found at the five barracks buildings were headlamps, boonie hats and gas stoves, jails are a little better but not much, ATC's are useless again.   But please, don't listen to the uncles, keep on going there, I am sure it'll be fixed in .59.

 

Digging on the novy Gorka.  Devs,  thank you, good job, didn't have time to explore it but noticed the police station had moved closer to the clinic, a few new houses and buildings and two police car wrecks.  Nice.

 

Still have found no batteries, folding stocks or rail fore grips for AK's either.

I just got a hunting backpack in that new garage building that is twin long buildings with a bunch of storage doors facing each other. A couple have cars in them and there are some cars in the space between them. One of those had a hunting backpack inside. The barred building that used to have the locked door and is now unlocked is a great place to find stuff though, like people have said before. I got a smersh vest and backpack combo and a tortilla backpack and ammo and range finder and some pistol mags all on one building doorstep.

You sure she didn't shoot you with a crossbow ? :-D  I remember a bug where being on the second floor of anywhere and trying to do almost anything would get you broken legs. There were many times I was on a second floor and doing absolutely nothing and got broken legs, I thought it was hackers but I'm starting to think my location fluctuated a little and it snapped my legs. Could be they fixed something that was a problem and ended up bringing that problem back?

Patch is out for 4 days now and there are still no patch notes? Am I missing something? And btw some great feedback:
I have 60 fps in forests and 15 in cities with gtx970 and fx-8350 on low-normal, perfect

I stepped on an activated mine and all I've seen was single text notification "You've been hurt from a land mine", no explosions, no sounds, no broken legs or bleading.

SVD mag found at outpost building.

 

Btw., I haven't seen a single outpost building (you know, the ones that were opened recently) without loot explosion on the outside.

Two of those days were the weekend, and I don't think it's fair to expect them to be working seven days a week.

 

There's always the unofficial changelog if you absolutely need your fix.

If it was up to me there would be no Change Log whatsoever, get out there explore and then report back with your findings.

What is your loot experience with this patch? Mine is exactly as it was with 0.55 at the rollout: In the beginning all was fine and now (after the first hords over the fresh servers) there is no loot any more except at clothing lootplosions like prison island. No food anywhere. FEW items. Also: There are servers with absolutly NO item on them (prison island with no jacket and no pants says it all (those clothing amounts can not be taken away)). In the inland it is only a time delay of the problem. Loot is simply not spawning in high enough numbers to balance the game between crafting/hunting and looting. So far the experiences from my buddy and me.

I think you're being way too quick to call hacker on that, weird shit happens in police stations.

(Like the several people I knew that broke their legs on the stairs, or the time I was prone on the roof, and suddenly started slowly floating right down through the floor until I reached the ground level, and got stuck halfway in the floor and hurt my legs]

Also don't know if telling her to log out was a good idea, but that's just my opinion. Better going for maybe safe, then not at all safe.

classic bug mate, happened to me many times. sometimes your legs are broken, sometimes you just die. the game fail to recognize your position on some multiple story buildings, teleporting you for a fraction of second on the floor below, causing fall damage. you actually don't see any teleportation, but your mates can see you glitching up and down sometimes, some dudes recorded this happening in a firestation.

 

hitting "V" when you are upstair force the game to reactualise your position, it can prevent this bug on laggy servers.

I've picked up a protector case recently, it's a great way to store hot food on your character without raising your body temperature.
