I hope this engine will solve the biggest problem that 3 generations of Real Virtuality engines could not solve - The firestation's ladder bug!

Edit:

So in other words, they are still using the Arma 2 engine .

yes and no

Hello there

Perhaps it was a Rocket faux pa to announce it as a "new" "engine" (it was him was it not?) but in many ways it is/will be.

Dont forget Dean isnt the most EA PR esque guy and I actually prefer that, its more like we are communicating with a real person rather than one who speaks in buzzwords.

The same with this forum, we run it very laxly and let a lot slip by that wouldnt be allowed on other forums. Again this is intentional. We  want to be close to our community not a faceless PR/Fanboi site.

Saying that, Dean knows his beanz, talking to him in skype, about the engine changes, is rather scary as he's uber technical and i often feel like a gibbering tangerine talking to Einstein when it comes to that area. (im the tangerine btw  :) )

I think that folk will Micro judge him on his tweet as Haters just want *something* to grasp on to wail about.

The RV platform is great for Sim-ing, not perfect but great for what it does, with the upcoming changes its also going to be a great sim/gaming platform.

I do still find avatar control "clunky" and thats been my main gripe throughout the series, although with a beast machine its far less evident.

As to dean trolling or decieving the community, well no I dont think so.

I think that before we were going to just be using a fork of RV now we have much more opportunity to see fundamental core changes to the platform, perhaps more than the team initially hoped for.

i think the terms he use can be miscontsrued but are fundamentally correct.

If you see what I mean? :0

I lost you when you starting talking about tangerines and einstein

For people who don't know about DayZ much moving to a new engine and pretty much rip out of everything is what they've been doing for a while so he didn't misspoke. If you read only "DayZ moving to a new engine Enfusion, it's a complete rip out of everything, everything from a scratch" then you can misunderstand because you didn't read the whole thing and you don't think about the whole picture what is happening. They're not changing technology for something like CryEngine for example, they're using home tech and making new on top of old base. They're moving to a new engine and they have been doing that for a while.

There's no "misspoke". Period.

Which is absolutely awesome! Great news! Thanks to the Dev-Team and Dean, I absolutely love that move.

Happy Bean :beans: :beans: :beans: :beans: :beans:

I don't mind to wait longer. However, folks will complain anyway.

It's not a new engine. This thread is misleading and only here to cause nerg rage from the uninformed.

Well, I looked it up here but maybe that's misleading too?  (Could be a troll article)

Anyway, Dean spoke of quite a lot engine changes. I think I do like them. =)

I hope the move to a "new" engine is far more substantial than anyone here seems to think.

I hope they fix all of the fundamental problems the game had from the previous engine.

Hope they adjust the cameras position in 3pp so you cant look over cover.

Hope they eliminate the ability to go inside walls.

Hope they spend the time to get it right from the very start and not constantly play catch up.

Even if this means the game does not come out for another 3 years I am patient I rather play an amazing working game in 3 years instead of a crappy game now.

I've got a feeling that this new engine will fix the game alpha style. That is fix one thing and break ten others.

Yet it is not.

for the past what 5 years pc generates more money than consoles by a huge amount ?

Lol that is the last 5years,that's the past not the future, trust me its going that way ..

When game devs see that if they make games only compatible with 1 console and they release a new console every 1.5 years work it out where the coin machine is..

But it's NOT a new engine. They're re-naming the current RV engine because of the changes they've made to it, clearly thinking it's no longer similar enough to the original. The big difference that I'm aware of will be the new renderer and the 64bit servers which for some reason people seem to think will be the be all end all solution to every problem - trust me, they won't be.

Since we are going to be trusting you, what long term investments would you recommend? What do you think of VWNDX? Is it a reliable hedge against inflation, or is it inherently too conservative?

I'm not saying 64bit servers aren't a good thing, but you can look yourself and find that the developers have been saying they're NOT going to solve anything.

I'm not complaining about zombies, I am talking about the engine. This is the problem with rockets approach so far re zeds, he was focused on trying to 'fix' zeds, when he needed to 'fix' the engine. It is a fault with the engine that allows zombies and light to pass through solid objects (as he now belatedly accepts), pathfinding is another issue altogether and is related to AI.

If the pathfinding flaws try to take a zombie through a building the building should stop the zombie in its tracks, if the zombie cant get through walls then the problem is mostly solved, pathfinding can come later, we just need solid objects to behave like solid objects and possess the same properties for light and zombies as they do for players and bullets. And for that to happen we need drastic changes to the engine.

too much work for the CPU. Server Physics for walls are done for players because if not, a hacker could just write a simple script where he "asks the server to go from A -> B" where in between theres a wall, and the server would say "ok, deal" rendering thus an actual way to go across walls.

But the zombies are never going to become hackers and cheat (the day they do that Terminator will be a reality), so if the zombie asks the server to go from A -> B the server immediately says yes, since we can assure its not a cheat move.

However the responsible of asking the server for zombie moves is 100% solely and purely the AI. So if the AI pathfinding is not well done, the zombies "cheat". Creating a physics not allowing for zombies to go across walls won't fix the pathfinding problem (zombies would start hugging walls like idiots) so you will have to fix the AI either way, but you now have and extra (and heavy) work for the CPU to calculate also the pyshics of the zombies, when with the correct pathfinding isn't needed at all.

Everyone with a working brain has said as I that it should have been built on another engine.

It only took them a year and allot of wasted time to figure it out..../facepalm

Like I and many others have said before, there should have been a new engine from the start but everyone else cried "They can't use a new engine!" I hate to say it because BIS is a company I like a lot but guys, you really dropped the ball on Dayz. After it went viral on youtube surely that must have registered something? So how long is it going to take to rip everything out and put it all back together again?

This not being a new engine is like calling a car off the lot not new, cause they made the same model last year...

Hello there

There is a lot of confusion as many might think DAYZ is moving to Crytek for example.

But when you play the final game it will be to all intents and purposes much more of a brand new engine than say a2-a3 is.

They're going to stuff (lever) so many things in I doubt it will be truly comparable to a vast degree.

If  I could tell you half of what I know you'd be happy/excited and I know very little but alas NDA's stop me, In fact I can hear a Blackhawk now, ive said too much.
