riggsx 0 Posted June 5, 2015 (edited) I run a rig with the following specs i5-2500k cpu (3,3ghz)16gb RAMGTX 970 (4GB)Windows 7 professionalGame installed on SSD disk. I have in general very high FPS but in some places - especially Novodimitrovsk, Severograd & Svetlojarsk (despite that there are few people there compared to, say, Berezino, where my FPS is higher) - I get absolutely horrendous FPS, well below 10.I run with maxed graphics except post processing, because it blurred the distance so much. Is this problem geographical on the map or am I doing something wrong?Resolution is 1920x1080. Is the issue perhaps my CPU (bought ~2011), that is a bit older than the rest of the system? HystericalHyena 1 Posted June 10, 2015 Hi all, I do see a bit of a debate about laptops... But that's all I can afford as I need one for my travels and to be honest... I dont even have a desk for a pc! Here is the spec; Desktop or laptop? Laptop - Chillblast Stingray 15.6"Monitor resolution: 1920x1080CPU: Quad Core i7 4720HQ - 2.6ghz-3.6ghzGraphics card: NVIDIA® Geforce GTX 970M - 3GB GDDR5 Video RAMRAM:* 8GB (Option to upgrade to 16GB which I can do at a stretch)SSD? (Yes/No) - Hybrid, 500GB Seagate Momentus XT Hybrid SSD/HDD Any help to the above is appreciated! I'm only interested in playing DayZ if it won't work then I will just get a macbook instead and not play anything.
boneboys 7988 Posted June 10, 2015 You can but it will be a struggle, my friend has almost the same laptop.Internet connection is all important.
HystericalHyena 1 Posted June 10, 2015 You can but it will be a struggle, my friend has almost the same laptop.Internet connection is all important. Aha, so it comes with: Built in 10/100/1000Mb Base-TX Ethernet LAN I have fibre optic (averages 40mbs) and naturally would use ethernet to play.. Would that be enough with the above spec? I play on a laptop from a few years ago: msi gt780dxr specs:cpu: i7-2670qmgpu: nvidia gtx 570m 1.5gig8gig ram2x250gb ssd Your machine seems to have far higher specs (apart from the ssds) so you can play no problem. I upgraded my machine to ssd but I'd played hundreds of hours when the laptop had a slow (7200rpm) hd. You can play. I also play over wifi. Again never been an issue for me. That is relieving, maybe I will shell out for a full SSD rather than hybrid (only 8GB of SSD the rest is HD).

If you have room for two that's better. You put you os on one and steam and games on the other. Even two separate drives i.e. a 7200 and an ssd would be an improvement. Avoid raid 0 if it's an option. Have no raid at all if you're using ssd(s) . A lot of laptops with dual drives are set as raid 0 and although it probably helped with old mechanical drives it's not a real issue with ssds and if ever one of your drives fails it's a total disaster and everything is gone from both. Like all of us no matter what machine you end up with you'll spend more time trying in the settings/config files than you've played entire other games. It's the way of dayz and bohemia games in general. I think you'll be fine though. Edited June 10, 2015 by freethink

Yeah has the option of a 2nd hard drive so I can keep the 1st one the standard hybrid (keeping costs down) and put in a SSD in 2nd. Hopefully that'll work! Not looking forward to the having to fiddle with settings, hopefully as i'm not a massive gaming guy I can just turn down most of the graphics and slowly turn them up as I play.. Yep that'd be a good call imo. os on the hybrid then steam on the second drive. The fiddling is not so bad. You'll be fine.

I have 4710HQ and 980M and gpu is barely being used so no problem with 970m . 4720hq clocks to 3.4 with turbo boost and performs similair to non clocked i5 desktop counterpart. lucianpin 80 Posted June 16, 2015 I usually play with Object Details - Very Low (that is scene complexity 200,000 in cfg file) and object view distance set to 800 (meters). I get 45+ fps in almost every village and 30 fps in large cities with current build 0.57 CPU i3-4130 (3.4 GHz)GPU GTX 750 Ti
