Rezzed - June 2013 - Developer Session

Recommended Posts

Man, I love that some items are gonna be so rare that there's literally only one of X in existance across the entire player-base...

I can't wait to go all Book of Eli on that shit.

Polishing, zombie pathfinding bug fixes, player hit box implementation and then alpha release and adding new content and fixing bugs thats how i hope them to do it. If they say its about a week, untill release. I'd say they are in a hurry.

You misunderstood what he said man,

They have set a rough date of a specific week some time in the future, but are not going to say which week that is.

Its not going to be released in a week from now.

you forgot that and it only has a 1km maximum voice range and you can turn them off.

Very Ape is right.

There is absolutely no need to worry.

Sure some troll could totally waste his radio by turning on the 80's station and hiding it in Cherno on full volume, but after a short while, a zeds will break it, or the batteries will run out from constant usage. Don't worry

Troll and... 80's music!? You must be terminated.

It will become known as the Megadeth vs Metallica Wars, where many a survivor will lose their life over what band they decide to broadcast..

Yeah, it will add that certain challenge and authenticity to it. :D Especially on how you can't consume colas 24/7.

I am thrilled for the effects it'll have on your body. Will you puke? Or just crap your pants?^^

I will be hunting down the dubsteppers, the 80's mainstreamers and helping Demongroover hang the Phil Collins aficionados from the tallest trees in Chernarus.

And I shall be hunting you down Het.

I came into this thread, saw your reply, and it made me smile.

Gone about my day, and now I've got that "I've been talking to Jesus, all maaah liiiife" song by Phil Collins on an indefinite loop in my mind.

Nice one mate. Nice one...

Well don't know how I feel about accessing radio stations, it's a major immersion breaker for me. The sound should be processed to simulate low quality speakers you would expect from such radios. Also it feels extremely wrong that those stations aren't affected by the zombie apocalypse, when ingame everything looks destroyed and humanity seems to do not so well. I just really can't see what this feature would add to the game. IMO it's kind of stupid and adds nothing to the gameplay. I don't see why rocket would be so excited about this. he should focus more on improving the elements that worked in dayz mod, rather than bringing loads of new poorly implemented/useless stuff. (dig the coat and hat and crafting system, though)

Yeh, it may fail miserably and not make it into the final game, it's pretty experimental so time will well I guess. Luckily they haven't had to spend too much time or resources to implement it because it's just taking advantage of the usual VOIP stuff already built into the engine, it's just using that in a different way.

For me it hinges on what the community do with it and history has shown that they can be pretty creative. If all we end up with is 80' tunes on a loop then that's not gonna be too great. If we end up with some creative folks using their imaginations and roleplaying by adding some decent stations with perhaps that "Fallout" style to them then it could be a good addition.

It's worth remembering too that not everyone's going to be running around with radios trolling. You'll need batteries and the radios themselves could be hard to find.

Like a lot of the new things being added, time will tell and we'll only really know how it's going to pan out throughout the alpha testing which is pretty much the point of them releasing the alpha. If everyone hates it, it won't make it into the final game, simple as that.

resolves some of the energy issues

@Fraggle you once mentioned you could talk directly to Matt/dean about that "stances" idea you had (first "civilian" after some experience "military/arma3" stances). did you have any chance yet?

I'm still most curious about copyright issues.

With digital-radio I'd guess any copyright issues would be broadcast-side. As long as BI don't host any pirate stations themselves they keep their hands clean.

If this picks up, I've got a good musical/gaming community around me who'd be chuffed to bits writing and performing with DayZ in mind.

I hope you can cause damage to your player by taking a shed ton of painkillers.

Woops! No I completely forgot tbh. I'll wait until they're wanting some feedback though because usually the first thing people do when they get a chance to talk to them is smash them with a hundred ideas of what they would do if they were making the game.

Believe it or not everyone think they can do better :/. Cheers for reminding me though :)

Some things on there i am not a fan of. A calorie controlled diet? sorry not into that. Foot meter? are you crackers?

Everything else will be fine for me, but I swear I will be combat logging off if I hear Huey Lewis' Hip to be Square. You all remember.

I don't need therapy again.

lol, you won't actually have a "foot-meter". Thats the debug menu the developers use.

As a player it just means your shoes will degrade over time or if you run around on concrete for days on end with bare feet then you're gonna be in pain. It should be pretty intuitive, same with the food aspect.

For example after a few days of bare feet you may get a the message "your feet start to feel sore" or whatever, then you know you gotta get some shoes. if you ignore it long enough you'll end up limping/hobbling around until you sort it out.

I think it's an attempt to give the player more to think about, especially for long-term gameplay. There needs to be something to add to long-term surival and consequences because as it stands with the mod once you get some decent gear there really is nothing else to worry about apart from getting shot.

Well I, for one, demand a foot meter in the final release!

I'm the opposite man, things like the food you eat and clothing/footwear having consequences to your health have really got me excited.

and Huey Lewis rocks :P

Man, I would love to run my own DayZ DJ radio station! That'd be cool.

Do it! Just submit an application to the devs and see how it goes. Maybe you could interview some of the well known characters from DayZ like Dr Wasteland, Black Widow and so on. Do it!

I'd make distress calls and morse code messages on a loop to freak people out.

Personally I hope the radios have a channel devoted to the lives of Worker & Parasite:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jR7m-4Vc3MU

Some great ideas here though. I love that crafting will be complex enough to encourage specialists. I made a post a couple of days back about wanting crafting books in the game, but if it's like this then that would be way better.

When I saw stuff spawning under the bed.... hells yeah! Simple but realistic features like that are always good.

Complex medicine system, heaps of different meds for different diseases. LOVE IT. With the ability to closely examine items, you'd soon see what treats what, but at least this is a step towards bringing us back towards that uncertainty that made almost everyone fall in love with the game when we first started playing.

This is making me really excited, although there are a few basic mechanics that people have mentioned - running speed, zombie pathfinding - that should be cleared up by now, or at least soonish. No excuse for a pathfinding system shown months ago not being in the game by this stage.

On radios again - if there are a few people wanting to do an AM-style talk show, I would love get something started with you!
