Rezzed - June 2013 - Developer Session

Recommended Posts

I kind of agree :/

I think it would be nice to see Rocket and Co. making nice organised progress reports on this (the official) DayZ forum. It would certainly solve a lot of confusion if there was one locked thread where they could post status reports, hoewever small.

Having said that, the recent presentations at both Rezzed and E3 reached out to a much larger audience than this forum ever will and by watching one or 2 vids including the Q&A sessions from those events you can get the most recent info and state of the game there is so far and with that in mind if people are genuinely interested in the games progress that should be thier port of call for now, as with most games that presented there. Rocket used Twitter to address some of the concerns about zeds etc after those events and that info was then discussed at length both here and on Reddit.

tldr; Yes it would be nice to see Rocket making organised status updates on these forums but there is really no excuse to not be informed about the game at this point in time if you're genuinely interested in it.

when you say on reddit "hey rocket.." he shows up.... :( ...

"Rocket?" will you ever see my Q&A thread....like...ever?

:D

I understand where Rek is coming from and no one really has to be a di*k. However, I do understand where everyone else is coming from.

Rek, do some more youtube searches etc. Those 'review' videos are pretty snazzy.

Everyone else, don't be so mean. :D :beans:

There's lots of external communication. It's just that we, the community, are doing a terrible job of compiling it. Especially us addicts.

i hope you are referring to the community as the mods/ days staff members who frequent the forums. It shouldn't be down to me or you to compile this information and do all the leg work when it could just be posted in one place, ie the actual dev blog tumblr which is for specifically that.

In the end it is only hurting their cause and their rep as a fair few people dont have fucking clue whats happening, there is no consistency in their communication in both placement and timing. Their external communication is pretty awful, there is a lot of it, but they way they deliver it is a shambles.

Also @ fraggle, indeed, but to be really interested it seems you have to frequent the forums / follow on twitter, its harder for those who don't to dip in and out, one cant expect everyone to be as obsessive and ontop of things as we are :P

I just think a bit of organisation on their side would be a nice sign they are indeed serious about their external communication to everyone.

I just find it annoying that the most important information usually gets posted in random topics on Reddit rather then somewhere like the devblogs, if you aren't following Rockets feed you likely won't ever see that information at all, I'm not talking about every comment he makes but there is a lot of important stuff that never gets posted anywhere else. As an example, here are a few comments made in just the last couple of weeks .

Private servers that connect to the central hive will be expressely allowed on release, using a blacklist system. That means servers will be automatically approved and only blacklisted if somethng goes wrong. This is mainly to be allowed for our alpha, in beta and release we will reiew the situation and possibly allow private hives themselves.

http://www.reddit.co...release/carnc4n

Changing weapon while moving was one of that which we captured today (and a major priority)

http://www.reddit.co...e_about/carfmx2

It's not going to be next week (jet lag, etc...). But it's not going to be longer than two months. It will be somewhere in between.

Why not set a date? Because we don't need too, and we don't want to force something out with a glaring game breaking bug just because we set a date, when we didn't need to in the first place.

Furthermore, we have scrapped the keys-in-blocks idea and going for a full access alpha. This means we need to be damn sure our central server will hold whatever load might be thrown at it.

Also remember, I was on tv. I'm always the most conservative on tv be because you get cut up into sound bites and lose the context. When talking to fans etc... I can provide context and be more realistic.

http://www.reddit.co..._stream/caikwji

This and also we need to consider the question of DX11 and other big graphics stuff at the same time.

http://www.reddit.co...p04s0?context=3

Server/Client is done. As an example, over last few days been adding in battery consumption, calculating environment temperatures, interacting with terrain and objects, all sorts of stuff. Much of which breaks the build, causes crashes, performance issues, etc...

http://www.reddit.co...tqxnx?context=3

We actually just introduced "burnable" as a property two weeks ago, but no effects yet
http://www.reddit.co...ou2uq?context=3
- Linux server build is very likely.

- Server footprint is only 1.2gb.

- Bandwidth is TBA, but we're doing formal systems testing soon to get some metrics

http://www.reddit.co...mlim2?context=3

These are the type of things I expect to see in regular dev blogs, they all seem pretty newsworthy to me but you won't know about any of them at all unless you follow Rockets Reddit feed, and there is heaps of stuff like this. Maybe they should add his rss feed to a block in the sidebar. http://www.reddit.com/user/rocket2guns.rss

I've seen countless member created threads like this across the internet. A lot fans take it on themselves to compile up-to-date info on whatever brought them to the community they're participating in. It's not unusual at all.

I already do compile most information, as an example, this very topic has everything from Rezzed as well as some recent reddit posts concerning the release date in the first post. Obviously I'm not going to compile everything Rocket says though because he posts almost daily, wouldn't hurt if they actually posted the important stuff in dev blogs though so you don't have to follow so many different sources to stay up to date on the important stuff.

Yeah SmashT i agree. I don't understand why it has to be Devblog Videos. It would be great if there is a text-devblog every 1-2 week and the videos only if they have time for it or there is something new to show. I know they don't have much time to do this kind of stuff but wouldn't it be much better if Rocket takes some of the time he spends on reddit and makes a devblog in which he writes about the progress. Don't get me wrong i don't mean to be a dick or something but i would like to have one site to go to for new information and not like 1-3 sources everyday/week and isn't that what the devblog is for ?

thats what i am hitting at though, its a bit of a mission to sift through all the shit to find the important stuff. As you said SmashT if they just stuck the most important stuff on the devblog, where it should be, it would solve most problems with communication, As it stands (as you mentioned) you have to visit a lot of places to find out whats gwaning. Either way, thanks for the links matey :)

What's unfortunate for me is I only use the forums for SA info. I don't have Twitter or check sites like Reddit. You would think the main place for info would be the forums... but I guess it's easier to post stuff up on the fly at the other sites.

Just remember all, this is the official forum for the DayZ Mod. When Standalone comes out I assume there will be a new forum. Twitter has been the best way for me to keep up with info. The discussions here are nice though.

That question already came up few weeks ago. One of the admins said thisn will stay the official forum for the SA too.

In my opinion the time they are spending to write at reddit and twitter could be used for a weekly developer blog that would keep us informed and happy but nvm let's just use 3 sites and 10 videos to learn something we could learn with a 3minute DevBlog.

Another post from Rocket

We spent last week progressing further on our alpha milestone tasks. Also clearing out some nasty crashes, as I am sure those testing can confirm. At the start of the week you would crash within minutes if trying to move... We still have a nasty crash there for some and that's monday's job.

But progress is going great, our aim is to have the initial alpha as a solid base. The project is now becoming much more "formal" and I'm confident with how this week progressed.

I think it's very important we keep on this process. This is the first time we've properly committed to a date so I'm hopeful we can deliver on that.

Not baaad!
