Rezzed - June 2013 - Developer Session

Recommended Posts

I really don't understand the point to these showcases.

On one hand Rocket will claim that only a small and devoted portion of the DayZ fan base should buy the Alpha. On the other hand, in this demonstration, he mentions wanting "hundreds of thousands of people" to access the game for testing.

The Alpha will have very little features, much less than the mod, yet Rocket feels the need to talk about many, many awesome things they'd like to eventually put in the game. His trademark "but first we need to get the Alpha out there" is going to make people think that development will rapidly pick up after release.

The reality, that many of the "hundreds of thousands of" buyers don't realize, is that in the history of game development has no product ever increased productivity after releasing to the public. Productivity will slow down after release.

For that reason I do not think these hype conferences are honest.

Currently there have been 1.7 million people who have played the mod. Having a couple of thousand testers should be only very little.

Fraggle is right Gummy, if you are not pleased with the standalone then you can simply not buy it.

There is a huge difference between being complex and just being annoyingly complex that it's boring and makes people give up. I mean what's next? Are they going to add a jack-off meter? Or wiping your ass faster when you're at rest in order to faster get into combat. Some of those things are completely unnecessary, like purification tablets for example. The customization system is awesome. It's complex enough and it looks like it will be fun. things like that are fine. But right now it seems they're going over the top and they don't even have a real plan for the game. Rocket seems to be all over the place and he can't make up his mind. That's what bothers me.

i'm somehow torn between these subjects. on one hand it is refreshing and intersting but we just don't know if it turns out to be a useful, good feature or not. that's why they want everyone to test the alpha. they rely on our feedback. i guess some of these complex features aren't "that complicated" to implement so why not giving it a shot? purification imo is usefull as pure unplouted water could be scarce.

for me the complex diet is far too much. counting calories, too much cans of coke turn out to be a problem...yes ok it is realistic, but in azombie outbreak...how authentic would this be?? you would rather starve than die of massive obesity...

That radio will get really annoying if there are over a hundred on the ground in a city. Probably won't be long in the game before it gets taken out.

scarcity 'nuff said ;)... and i guess we would first have to manage a radio station before broadcasting anything...let's just see...many things with epic potential..but yet still only potential

I love the diet idea, There could be a mcdonalds in cherno, and if you eat too many burgers and drink too much coke you get fatter and slower :D, and are a bigger target :D

Strap a radio to a fat guy with "never gonna give you up" playing and we hunt the fucker :D

Bring on the fatguy hunts :D

There's a difference between "a couple thousand" and "hundreds of thousands".

even at this early stage there's more content than the mod

Maybe I missed them, but I didn't see Campfires, Tents, Vehicles, and so on. The mod has those. Does the Alpha?

I dont think purification tablets are completely unnecessary?

If you can take water from various sources, road ditch etc etc that clearly have contamined water, it can be made drinkable with those. I dont think you will need to purify fresh water and so on.

And even if some stuff would be completely unnecessary, its better to have more than not enough...

One of these days Gummy is gonna surprise me and post something positive about Dayz, because for the life of me I have no idea currently why he even frequents this forum as it seems he has nothing but hatred for everything that Rocket is trying to achieve with this game.

Seriously Gummy, just one post about what you actually do like about this game would be a start, because currently all you come across as whenever you post is a troll and as I said I'm baffled as to why you'd even bother wasting your time on this forum.

It will. An alpha isnt just one release as you well know - updates will be added frequently

The actual calories etc will be a background thing. It won't be like playing a Weightwatchers sim where you have to count calories, although it sounds complex for the actual player it should be fairly intuitive, you just need to make sure you have a fairly balanced diet as much as possible to avoid the long-term negative effects.

i'm sorry that i have to be that guy...zeds still seem to be on that same buggy level as before. i really really hope they have everything under control...this could make or brake it.

It will? The whole point I made was that "it doesn't yet have". You and others were the ones who jumped in and said that it has more features than the mod. I gave counter examples.

Okay lets say 500 thousand players, still pretty far from the 1.7 million DayZ players.

Rocket has said that they will be updating the alpha every week to add new stuff in it. Please do some research, Gummy.

Why don't you wait until it's released and then pass judgement Gummy. Everything at this stage is speculation until we play, although i have a nagging feeling you're not going to enjoy it and it won't meet your standards. it's pretty obvious you've condemned this train wreck of a game to failiure.

Let's move on anyway so that this thread doesn't become all about Gummy and his issues with BIS/Rocket.

i realize that as anyone i guess. however zeds are the main focus (i hope so) at the moment. and we all know that the arma engine had very tight restrictions when it came to them and their behaviour. i just fear that zeds will still be limited with the overhauled engine....

and i think some do fear this..

I like the zombie skins, i felt seeing the same zed skins twice in dayzmod killed immersion (yes i know the SA has only a few type skins but cos they are dark and burnt looking it kinda helps) :P

Do you think Dayz SA will just appear on Steam Early Access without an official announcement?

It's not just that. It is a game after all. And you don't need that kind of depth of realism in a game. There should be some level of realism but not the point where it almost the same and tedious as real world. We play games to escape the REAL world. For example, finding gas cookers. Fine, you find a gas cooker and that should be all you need to cook food forever until you get killed. If they start making it so that you have find other parts for it, like the actual expandable fuel canister and etc then that becomes completely unnecessary. Because all you'll do is run around looking for different parts to gas canisters, purification tablets, and different antibiotics etc. That might add up in spending your entire day without any actual gameplay just so you can eat.

I said that because you said there are very little stuff when the alpha release which is true. The good thing with an alpha is that they can continue to add those things that you mentioned that were missing.

Maybe limited yes, with the skins yes, But....There can be many zombies now instead of the limited amount Dayzmod had.

What people prefer. well skinned zombies but only a few of them, or not very nice skinned zeds but 1000s of em lol

however you do realize that this game wants to deliver a product to a niche. i personally love it.

many features will have to prove themselves as useful however
