Dr. Goner 661 Posted April 26, 2013 anybody feels like summing up the key points from the vid lol? ^_^would be greatly appreciated! It was basically a regurgitation of the PAX stuff except with shittier video quality. Oh, and a picture of a large ship with a lot of interior play space. Ship looks good, video was crap.

osallivan 74 Posted April 26, 2013 (edited) oh well :) It's fine. I watched the PAX videos when they were out. I also have seen the pictures of the ship (BTW, I assume it was located somewhere near Guba, where the current ship is located). The only thing is that I was just wondering whether if Rocket mentioned something interesting in the interview after the PAX, when he was talking to the fans.BTW, I am excited for the GDC Blog update!! My prof went there this year, told us cool stories :D Edited April 28, 2013 by osallivan
triggy89 171 Posted April 29, 2013 (edited) Great update, looks like things are coming along nicely.Although i do agree with the "it will be ready when it is ready approach" with mods and games that are seriously short on budget, i feel that can sometimes cause tension. Telling people dates that will never be met is somewhat undesirable, but i do believe the community need a more concrete roadmap. I am not talking specifics but estimates. I would prefer some kinda of idea, even if it is a year, than none whatsoever. (having said that i may have missed something?)Rocket has done a brilliant job, and so have the dev team, but now they are funded and have money I dont think that such an attitude can really be taken. Also i think taking that approach can sometimes be a little detrimental. Although i love the painstaking attention to detail i think getting too bogged down in it can sometimes mean putting a lot of effort into things very few will appreciate. I genuinely think that some things will be overlooked on a day to day basis by the player base. I dont think that this is having an adverse effect on pushing the game to the public, but it feel it might at a later date. Rockets attention to detail makes this an interesting project to watch develop, and i realise that he wants to do it right. So i am sympathetic to the line of thought he hasHaving said all this i believe that this extreme is is better than the opposite, which has been displayed by a certain other company that shall not be named, but sometimes a happy medium can be struck. Either way the game will far surpass what we have seen so far. Also good luck on your trip rocket, no one will berrate you here for doing it, lets just hope your minions can keep up the pace in your absence ;) Edited April 29, 2013 by triggy89

Zeppa 562 Posted May 2, 2013 (edited) However, it would be completely foolish to compare the explosion of DayZ, and the resulting purchases of Arma, to other mods. Most mods don't take off like DayZ did and DRAMATICALLY boost the sales of the game that was modded. And why is this?Arma2 is just a game as any otherDayz Mod is a mod just like any other.Success or not, they are comparable to any other mod or game as they are the same... doesnt change a thing.Mods intention was not boost the sales, it just happened and thats it, good for BI. If people desided to buy game just to play a mod, they did (Like I did) and Im totally fine with that. I and all the other got what we bought.I dont understand how people can see this scene as negative thing. You get to play the mod and propably the game, base game gets sales and mod gets publicity... everybody wins??So please stop simplifying my argument like I'm on one side or the other because I agree with the point you just made. And just so you're aware, because your post seemed to indicate you didn't, the majority of DayZ players came from the "outside." In fact, there were so many players from the "outside" that it became possible to conceive of it becoming a standalone game. That is true, we came from "outside". Desided to buy a game to play a mod. And Im happy that they are making the standalone.Let me make a harsh example.1. I buy a car X, after a while some dude releases a tuning kit for and I buy it... its all good, right? (arma2 owners before dayzmod)2. Now some guy sees the tuning kit and what it can bring, desides to buy a car just to get this kit and the thrills ("Bought arma2 because of dayz) (I personally did this)3. The tuning kit is so popular that the factory desides to make a new model that includes this tuning kit and other improvements.(release of standalone)This is the only scene that is floating around this mod and game thing...That's what sets this case apart and is the point being made by people claiming they paid to play the game. It was not an indirect line of payment to play DayZ, it was quite direct for a lot of people in that they never intended to play Arma II. Let me restate however since this is the second time someone hasn't actually been able to read, I COMPLETELY AGREE that the developers of the mod do not owe anyone anything as they released it for free.I do understand your point, but its still illogical...Its just matter of an perspective and because of that its irrelevant who thinks what is direct and whats not. It doesnt change the facts stated. You only saw my post as irrelevant because you picked and chose what parts you actually wanted to read. I'm completely confused as to why people don't see the importance of so many people buying Arma just to play DayZ. That is the whole basis of it taking off and why we're in here waiting for a standalone. Sure it's stupid for people to come in and act entitled to some sort of special treatment for their free mod, but most people here already know that mentality is stupid. Seeing that as stupid shouldn't come at the cost of acknowledging that the majority of the game's players came from "the outside" and didn't see DayZ as a mod, but as a game to play on its own. Hence, most people paying for it.That is totally true, without us outsiders there woudnt be this success and most likely no standalone game. I have never said anything about this as its quite clear but again, its irrelevant at the end for the discussion about money flow in anyway or who is entitled to what...Most of the time, there will be no new car models if the previous one is a flop, yet still if there is a new model same people that bought the previous some times upgrade the new one from freewill to get the improvements. Can you not see how there are two sides to it? (Thinking about this questions with the specific point in mind that Rocket and the developing team don't owe anyone anything).Yes, I can... ones that owned arma before and us that didnt. Yet still there can be as many perspectives as there are people (almost at least). Rocket and development team doesnt owe anyone anything, its just their best interest to bring that new model to the market, because of passion for the industry and/or for the money it brings.Which kind of brings me back to the topic at hand. At what point can you start holding a developing team accountable for delays or "broken promises"?? Personally, I have not been disappointed in the slightest at the December delay because they decided to take the game in a more serious direction. Hell, I could wait until next year and not think twice about it. But people come in here whining and moaning about the wait (of both the game and the updates) like it suggests incompetence on the part of the developers. Should anyone be worried about the developers being in over their heads or no? I've always had full confidence in everyone making the game but to be fair they are new to having their own project so I hope it's not naive to just assume success like I do. I guess the connected question is, at what point should people say, "Listen, you never gave us any indication that it would take this long to make a game." (2014? 2015? 2022?). Or is there never any right to say that because no one ever paid for anything??To this I would personally say this. People that come here to bitch have grown bored to the mod, which is understandable after a while.. I did.Now they are seeking for new thrills and screaming here "gimme gimme!". At the same time these people are blinded by the "thrill seeking" and they cant see that this game hasnt been on development for that long (propably played the mod few months after the standalone announcement) and it takes time. Also most of the people say that there is very little done and again they fail to understand/see all the work behind, lets say the server architechture or other engine changes. My responses in green.I also understand the "screamers", I would like to have the game out too.I also some what understand what it takes(barely) to roll out this game and Im happy to wait, no hurry.. There is other things to do also.Im trying to see all sides of these things, some times it hard and when you read stuff from this screen they can be interpreted wrongly.. triggy89 171 Posted May 2, 2013 (edited) @ ZappaI don’t think its the length of time that people are getting irate about rather not knowing when. The SA is going to be great, everyone knows it, and ofc I would prefer it to take longer than to be rushed. I understand Rockets want to not give another date due to missing the last BUT 6 months can easily turn into a year and without any idea of when an alpha will be release people feel left in the dark somewhat. Also it gives the FALSE impression that people are not working hard enough, ie to a deadline. The more savvy know this isnt the case due to the massive changes taking place and the amount of work that has to go into that, but as i mentioned in my previous post i think there is the risk of getting bogged down in the finer details.I think most people can only keep their attention on something for a period before getting annoyed. Even if they said that in "6 months an alpha will be released", so it could be 2 months it could be 6, but at least people would have a very vague idea. I think you underestimate the frustration that some people have coming back every week or so seeing amazing progress but not having the foggiest when they will be able to sample it. Zeppa 562 Posted May 2, 2013 (edited) That is true.I wonder which is better to say estimate of possible release date and then miss it rather than saying nothing... In ANY case there will be bitching and moaning... So to me it seems just more simple to be shut it and work in silence, post a devblog now and then to show off some of the work. Some people have more patience than others, you cant please everybody... never. Its easyer for the development and everyone working on it when they dont react the bitching and moaning, even if those complaining moves to other games etc... they may comeback when the game is released, if not then they really dont mind the game much.Like we can do other stuff while waiting... the word about the release will reach us in no time when it happens and we are on the line then for the keys. Its always away from the working time if they keep posting updates of every turn they make or if they document lots of stuff us to watch from tube...Sure its pain for the people waiting, no question about it... Even if Im not one of the people demanding the release date etc, I would like them to take the time..even once in a month to compile somekind of report, that is not too much to ask or even a half an hour a week to post few lines and maybe a screenshot. On the other hand I can be even without the info and take the it as a surprise when the alpha is launched, maybe get few "wow!"s about the things they have done.
