Plan for release of 0.45 to Stable

you do realise that the alpha was delayed multiple times before its release due to the network bubble and core architecture, and its coming up to its 8th month and very little has really been done, yet dean has already announced that the game is being moved onto a different engine? So pretty much an entire overhaul and back to the drawing board. I was so happy when the alpha was announced and was a relatively active forum goer. I also used to laugh at the war z forums as it descended into the last few fan boys desperately trying to defend the game, spewing the same line, “omg its still in alpha”, as the shitty devs churned out some terrible katan that looks like it had been plucked right out of a 1980’s he-man film to appease their last few players. Unfortunately I am seeing a lot of comparisons between that forum and this one now. The die hards are defending the game despite a very sluggish development and now an announcement they are going back to square one. In no game development, with a team of their size should it have taken this long, I have enough mates who work as developers, designers, QA, etc to know that with the team that they have it should have moved along more quickly. 8 months on and it is only starting to feel like it has 75% of the features in the mod are now in the alpha. I feel its getting more about hats and shoes than focusing on the main core game elements, like vehicles. I have very little hope that this game will ever actually get finished. Its built on a broken engine and they have only just realised it 8 months after they released it to the public as an alpha. Such potential, great idea, just not enough talent to actually see it through to fruition.

Rocket standing down from Dayz by end of year

it isnt pointless as it was always going to be paid for early access, and he knew he wouldnt have left before the money started flowing in. So still very valid as if the money had only started flowing when it was a full release he wouldnt had had the cash to start his own studio. Also it must have been pretty large the amount he received considering he has the funds to start up his own freeking studio.

Here is an interesting question, would he have left the game, or at least announced he was leaving if this game didn’t have paid for early access. Would he have stuck it out if they hadn’t already made millions and he had taken a chunk of it?

Its not rage its disappointment mixed with joy, something you cant seem to grasp, yet I have explained what 2 times already. I have always been supportive of the project and only joined with forum a couple of months after you in 2012. I have followed it from its beginnings and was one of the first few thousand to install the mod. The times where it would take about 30 mins just to find a working server etc. I invested in the early alpha but have not played more than 3 hours purely because of the warning and i know i will burn out on a half-finished game before it hits beta. I have followed the production of this game since day1, moreso than a large proportion of this forum. No shit it was technically BI's game from the start, ofc it would be being produced in the studio and using the arma engine. But Rockets hold on the game and him having pretty much the last saw on everything has been true from the start, something you find difficult to understand. He was given free rein to do things his way. Taking a very "it will be finished when its ready" approach, something most studios would not let him do, yet had little or no sense of urgency of other games like rust popping up and being developed at a much faster pace. Now he’s homesick, this is coming from a guy who spent a few months climbing Everest and was in the fucking army, sorry if my sympathy for him is a little low. It’s a pretty flimsy excuse. I just think everyone saying oh poor rocket, let him go home are treating him like a delicate flower. This man has made a mint out of this game in the space of a few years, something all developers would kill to do, so much so he has the finances to set up his own fucking studio at what 31, a game he was so “passionate about” yet is happy to leave it before its finished. Yet as I seem to have to say again! I think the game will be better without him and I think ti will progress at a much faster pace without him at the helm, something he was so ill prepared to do in the first place.

announcing you are leaving while a game is still in pretty early alpha, is pretty much an indication of your commitment. Saying you will stay till beta is pretty much lip service to make sure everyone doesnt hate you. He has said in an interview that is is BI's game now, look it up. He is cutting and running, ie he isnt seeing it through till full release and he is announcing it 10 months before he is actually going to leave, and indicated he has been thinking about it for quite a while now. So please explain how the above is shit? If you think its shit please explain how the above reasons for thinking what you highlighted is utter shit?

sorry didn't have time to read all, but will in a bit and reply when i have a moment, but the above can clearly be seen by the progress of the game up until now. We don't need insider knowledge to know the progress has been pretty piss poor.

I couldn’t care less about what he says, his leaving is indication of his commitment or lack of it. Also the fact he is announcing it now is just testament to what I said he has a tendency to do, saying the wrong shit at the wrong time and putting his foot in it. But as I said I am HAPPY he is leaving, that is one point you can’t seem to get your thick skull around. I am HAPPY he is leaving purely due to the fact I think him being project lead has had a negative impact on the game. On the one hand its hilarious he is announcing this now and dusting his hands of his project and claiming it isn’t his anymore, after wanting total creative control over it, and on the other its brilliant as I think it will progress a lot faster. His reasons for wanting to go home are fine and are his own, but that doesn’t nullify the fact he is cutting and running and announcing it at an altogether ridiculous time, for most people, not myself it’s a pretty damaging step to take and has put a lot of doubt in peoples minds. Personally I do not believe much of what comes out of rockets mouth these days to be honest. Not that he is lying intentionally but that he genuinely doesn’t have a clue how to convey what he is thinking half the time. I said about a year ago they should have hired a PR person to do his external coms, due to them being a shambles, and this whole debacle is testament to that.

What he says means jack all, his leaving is indication of his commitment, but either way as i said I am happy he is trotting off. His lack of commitment is in my opinion better for the game in the long run.

Wow, you say its rubbish yet you fail to actually read it, if I take the time to answer someone’s post even if I disagree with it I will read it all, hence why I just read all your uninformed drivel. You claim I am a child yet don’t have the patience to read comments you quote and want a retort from me…. If you actually read my post you would see I said I am happy he is leaving, I don’t begrudge him for that, but I think it shows a distinct lack of commitment. I find it laughable the way in which he has handled the project up until now and I find it entertaining he is dusting his hands of it. After he wanted total creative control because it was his baby/brainchild yet doesn’t mind claiming its BI’s game now. He was never ready to take on such a large task, let alone now create his own studio. People feel the need to either cry he is leaving, hate him for it, claim it’s the apocalypse and dayz is doomed, or cry that anyone has a bad word to say about him. He has a tendency to put his foot in it repeatedly by saying stupid shit, and a propensity to make that stupid shit sound very whiny. Get where I am coming from? Also I find it funny you say “because it shows you not only how much people fail at reading comprehension” yet can’t actually read the posts you are quoting….

Rocket…well done for simultaneously pissing off a million odd people. Quite frankly his handling of this project has been abysmal and this move makes him out be such a whiny little bitch. This is coming from a man who claimed that he was such a perfectionist and that he took responsibility for everything that happened on the project and wanted total creative control….to oh Its diminishing returns and its Bohemia’s game not mine…. Quite frankly I think the game will progress more quickly without him and be better off without him. So no I am not angry with him actually leaving as I believe it’s a good thing for the project, but I am angry with the piss poor job he has done so far and I certainly won’t be pre ordering any games that come out of the stupio he plans to set up. Lets be honest if he cant handle this project what makes him think he can run a whole studio??? Personally this is turning out to be a war z situation very quickly. From lead on the project to, its not my game, disapearig and dusting his hands of it. People say oh hes got another 10 months…. You really think he is going to do jack all in those 10 months when he has already said he is leaving? Lets be honest who here actually gives 100% to a project you have already washed your hands of and you have the prospect of your own company on the horizon? So in short, happy dean is off the project because he wasn’t ready to lead one of that size and this shows how ill prepared he was. So onto a brighter future for dayz imo!
  11. Why make them so rare? there are over a billion cars on the roads now, dont make them rare, make them a regular occurrence, just make fixing them and finding the parts a bitch. Or finding fuel hard. Unless its being stored in a totally air tight container away from the sun Pertol doesn't actually have a very long shelf life, a few years at best. Hell its starts to degrade after a few months if its not stored correctly. Cars should be common as hell. the fuel to run it and parts to fix it harder. Also make fuel consumption more realistic. If its dam hard to find Petrol make sure when you fill it to the brim is drives at least 300 odd miles before running out.

    no more alphas for me

to say its all happening the same as the war z is a bit insulting to the devs to say the least who have been very upfront about the state of the game, hence the massive warning saying DON’T buy the game. They have tried to mediate expectations rather than covering up the faults. Don’t get me wrong I am not defending all the moves by rocket and he has done A LOT wrong. But you can’t fault how honest they have been on the steampage etc. Let’s compare that with the war z which was released with a beta that lasted for 2 weeks and got pulled from steam due to misinformation etc. Totally different, just because the war z was a rip off of the dayz mod don’t lump them in the same boat. If you have played other alphas then you should be fully aware that there is not much unusual about this one and for it to have deterred you just shows you haven’t participated in man/any alpha’s. Not being harsh, just calling it how I see it. Expect an alpha to be pretty dam broken, personally I believe there should be more core features and this alpha is too bare, ie they should have released the alpha with at least placeholders for vehicles, most weaps, etc. Alphas should have the majority if not all of the core features. But then again it comes down to what they believe are core features. I think that there are going to be some serious issues when the rest of the features are added and we actually see the full amount of zombies we have been promised but only time will tell.

the amount of people with under 10 posts posting one/two word replies like "amazing" and "great job" etc feels a lot like the warZ forums XD.

I said I am NOT a programmer, but my friends are. Considering they are all creating software for medical purposes and for robotics companies,. Ie a lot of software that they are creating from scratch through trial and error. It has to be new or it cant be a PHD. I think that yes, yes they could work faster. Nothing they are doing on dayz is so far removed from other games that it should be a massive shot in the dark. I am not begrudging the programmers, because as it stands it seems rocket is the main reason for the slow production. The reason being is that he doesn’t want to rush it, which in theory is a good thing, but the problem is when you have total creative control over a project everything has be be OK'd, so any major changes will be slow. My point is simply that the rate of development (not the alpha specifically) has been slow. Rocket has banged on about the network bubble and server side architecture for over a year, but quite simply from what i have heard from people who know as much or more about programming than rocket, do not think it should take that long, especially with a team of what 30 now? People here took the piss out of the war z ( me included) for their measly fix lists, which were longer than the one here. I was perfectly happy to invest in the alpha so where my friends, to support a game (not project lead) that we want to see finished. Just because we bought it doesn’t mean we have to tow the line and agree that Rocket and his team are infallible and brown nose them by telling them what a great job they are doing. Simply put now they have created a working alpha and it is out to the public with thousands of alpha testers, the fixes should be coming thick and fast, rather than 3 fixes and 4 things to be fixed. But as I said it’s the Xmas period, I don’t expect much, but when everyone is back these lists should be A LOT more extensive. If they aren’t, they are either skimping on the detail or just are not doing much.
