quite frankly i wouldn't play it. the intital uptake would be fun, but it would quickly dinwdle as players get 'banned for death' which would reduce interactions, risk of pvp, competiton for resources/vehicles/prime base locations/etc. ultimately becoming stale- requiring a wipe/reset at some point- which agian would be unwelcome. Survival games expect a lot of time investment and rely heavily on risk/reward. turining it into what would be essentially be a round-based arena PVP game that drags on for weeks or months would just make me go play something else.

Zeds will most likely come in larger numbers later, when they can optimize teh way the game handles them. I believe they mentioned backpacks spawning with loot, weapons with ammo etc might come later. Why would you need a guide for it ingame when you can find all the info you need for crafting very easily here, or on youtube? 15 cars would be much to many to handle. Someone would just gather them in his camp, still leaving none for other players. There is also a matter right now with the cars desyncing each other out, a lot. I think 5 cars per server is probably alright. Bicycles, motorcycles and the heli will also increase the number of vehicles later on.

Epoch Origins (Lingor) - Hardcore Survival Server
haywardgb replied to haywardgb's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
UPDATE: This feature has been disabled for the time being due to a bug where vehicles aren't saving location on restart .. I'll have it fixed soon... Added: All "owned" vehicles will be set to GodMode after each server restart. Once unlocked the vehicle becomes vulnerable again until the next server restart. Anyone caught abusing this system in anyway will be shot, in the knee! -
One other thing you do in the game besides running and searching for food - is you DIE. this game = the worse it gets = the better it gets = the better it gets = the worse it gets Seriously - for what to do - ? you could start looking a "Beginners guide" - there are several The "How was your Day(Z)" thread - with lots of entries, players stories Then check the videos in the Gallery section Then take it from there: A whole List of Helpful (technical) threads about the game and playing. A Tourist Guide - one of a several, to some strange things on the map New Player discussion - loads of different topics Then just look around the list of forums and pick what seems interesting find out about 'gearing-up' about 'KOS' and 'meeting other players' and cannibals (oh yes, them..) and about 'tents' and 'vehicles' and about "crafting" (for instance crafting a stone knife is easy and very useful) (I don't know which are the 'good' threads, players talk about those things all over the place) I do know where there are good threads on hunting and survival, in case living in the country away from the towns attracts you: Wilderness Survival and Hunting two instruction guides by Tatanko hmm.. there are so many subjects ... where to start? (start by trying to stay alive just for a little while, but don't worry if you DONT) * * For 2 outside sites that are full of information: DayZ Wiki http://dayz.gamepedia.com/DayZ_Standalone_Wiki has searchable info on items (loot): guns, equipment, food, etc plus tips and tricks and how-tos and DayzDB for info (and the best Map) http://dayzdb.com/map#7.055.128 (the map is Good, but some of this site's database searchable loot is not quite up to date - items and crafting are added to the game faster than DayDB updates them, but is useful reference on plenty of stuff xx pilgrim xx

Private servers are no Narnia, but it's great that they attract people with a slightly different attitude, or at the very least, discourage the people with the attitude you despise. Sure I was shot at many a time on private servers, but at least not by gangs who geared up on their "public" servers they kick everyone else from. What I recommend is this: find a private server, 1pp, with day and night and don't change gamma at night. Just yesterday, after having reckless fun with vehicles on public, I did just that and found myself in a real semi-horror situation, crouching from a shed to shed in Svetlo, hiding from zeds and scavenging survival tools. If you add a special condition that you can't eat any pre-made food (only hunting/farming/fishing), then the shit suddenly gets real and you get a completely different game than what it usually is right now. And it gets you used to what this game will hopefully evolve into one day.

Try rotating the tires until none of them appear to clip into the ground. I have also had issues with vehicles driving exceedingly poorly; spinning in circles, over-revving in third gear, generally poor traction. The V3S is just a slow, stubborn, workhorse. You need to learn the gearing, and try to avoid steep hills for now. I have no doubt that it will be improved upon in the future, but for now, it is only worthwhile for moving large amounts of cargo; and even then, it seems unnecessarily sluggish. It should. Just be glad that you haven't had desynch related brake failures yet. Those will ruin your day in a profound way. Also, beware of gates; the steel ones with vertical bars. Collisions with gates are being handled poorly by the physics simulation, ATM; it will force your vehicle into the ground, destroying every single component. Luckily, inventory isn't affected, and it didn't kill me; so I got that goin for me.

You need to take them off other spawned vehicles- you can use new UI if you don't want to use tools but pretty sure with old UI that you need to use a wrench.

Step 1) Don't try to make a camp on the outside edges of the map. Literally everyone and their mother thinks that is a good place. My clan and I have gotten geared up SOOOOOOO MANNNY TIMES from scrublets that think nobody will go out there. In reality, pretty much everyone who knows what's what will make a "map edge run" at least every couple of days. Standalone is not the Mod Instead: Step 2) Go to places where people have no reason to go. Load up the Day Z DB map. Take a gander at the region encompassed by Nadezhdino in the west, the Black Forest in the north, Topolka Dam in the south, and Tulga in the west. This is a mountainous, rugged, and heavily forested region of the map where there isn't really all that great of loot. I have spent 2 weeks, playing every day mind you, on a 50/50 server and I only saw about 5 people. Step 3) Keep on going to places where people have no reason to go. Hint: if you try to hide your stash by a building, or by a road, it will be found eventually. Inevitably, someone will think " hey, I wonder where that dirt road goes?", or " Hey, I know that nothing spawns in that house, but let me check for shits and giggles...." And they find your camp. The above is why I don't understand why people want to fortify pre-existing buildings instead of going into the hinterlands. "If you build it/ if there is a way there, they will come" applies. Instead, go to the end of that dirt road, then go off into the woods and over the hills. GO back far enough so that you can't be seen from the road, or from the nearest building, then stash your barrel in a tree, or set up a tent. I like to use streambeds as "highways" into the woods. Go off a road, follow a streambed up into the hills, then go off to the side along the ridge and set up camp. Step 4: Spread out Human-made objects tend to have angular shapes and colors that don't really exist in nature. This catches the eye because they stand out so much. Put up a tent, then move over 30 feet and put up another one behind some bushes. Set up tents away from barrels, and barrels away from cooking areas, and vehicles away from everything else. In "real life", you should really have ~200 feet between sleeping, working, cooking another areas in your camp. Keeps noise down, and makes you less likely to be bothered by animals (those on 4 legs and on 2)

 This is your opinion. ;) But seriously, no, the devs, at least Hicks, clearly stated that their point of view regarding loot is that good military gear should be rare. If you don't find a FAL or VSS when looking through multiple crash sites, it doesn't mean there's no FAL or VSS anywhere. Just look at the reports, watch streamers, watch some Youtubers and you'll see there's plenty of SVD, VSS or FAL around. Your personal experience is that you don't find the high grade military weapon you want when searching crash sites. Your personal opinion is that it frustrates you and you wish it would change. It's not an opinion or experience shared with the majority of players. In the end I think you are the one who's blind, stating that the mod is still better than the SA. -very few buildings you can enter -still extremely poor AI - predictable and exploitable loot respawn (clear/refresh) - terrible desync with vehicles (still... When got vehicles much later in the SA, and the desync got fixed way faster than the mod, and it's more stable than it ever was in the mod...) - no clothes, only "skin packages" - no armor value or inventory capabilities with various "skin packages" - still very limited inventory items - still very limited inventory mechanic and management - the list goes on. You might like the mod more than the Stand Alone, and it's your full right and opinion, but in reality it's no way in a better state than DayZ SA.

I agree with everything said above. Moreover, remember - you will never ever get 100% safety. There is always a chance some random explorer will wonder exactly into your sweet spot. I thought I had a super safe hideout in the middle of nowhere (in the South, far from the edges) but it's been robbed recently. But I can give away one funny spot for a quick barrel to place: there is that one just recently enterable tower, next to the Kamyshovo railway station, somewhere at 119 118 (it's not on the map as a loot point yet). A couple of days I noticed that it is surrounded by a wall. If you enter through the wall and go around the tower, you can put your barrel next to the tower, and 1) nobody has any reason to go there, 2) it's not visible with 3pp from any nearby point. Granted, it's not really a place for your camp, but if you find a barrel in Kamyshovo and want to stash your RAK looted from the nearby police station, it may just last for a couple of days. There is also this small town where I noticed a small passage between two houses. The passage is a dead end, but there is some room behind one of the houses, not visible from the street. I'm thinking about placing a barrel there. And sometimes I wonder if just for the hell of it I could put a blue barrel next to those 4-barrel blue packs serving as background. I wonder how many people wouldn't be any wiser. ;) Oh, I forgot a very nice thing - you can throw flat backpacks and weapons on the top of those long hill-like hay stacks next to many farm houses. The stash is next to invisible, sometimes even when you stand right on the top of it - you need the inventory tab to see it. Use improvised backpacks for optimum concealment. Weapons are literally invisible outside of the inventory screen, but they may despawn. Don't forget to memorize the location! As for vehicles, well, I'm currently looking for sweet spots myself. I found one, but we'll see how long it will last...

My strategy back in the mod days was to find a really boring place where I would normally never bother going. Make sure it's not on the path to something good too. Forest seem like an ideal spot, but tents and vehicles can stick out like sore thumbs among trees depending on the player's graphics settings. Buildings provide the best cover as they will hide your stuff no matter how low or high the graphics settings are.

Imagine all the maps chernarus, celle, tavi, uetes, Fallujah, Takistan, Nalmask, Thirsk, panthera, oring and podogorsk.all combined into one big map. Chernarus and celle would make up the main land. Tavi and uetes would be up past berzino off the coast. Fallujah would be set at the other end of the coast behind some mountains. takistan would be behind Fallujah Nalmask and Thirsk would be off coast opposite cherno oring and panthera would be behind tavi and uetes podogorsk would be thrown in some where. A massive map where people could travel for days before seeing anyone. vehicles would be rare and so would army grade weapons. It would take a lot of work but it would easy be the best map in the world. As I haven't being able to find out all the sizes of the maps to see how big they would all be but it would be absolutely massive making just cause 3's map look minuscule. super map

You made me realize why I find it fun to look for vehicles - it's something that at last resembles some sort of a mission, a quest if you will, much more interesting than a heli hunt IMHO. Yep, I need to scout through Chernarus more to find people's bases and a good spot for mine (I thought I had a great location but recently it was discovered and robbed; oh well).
-
Ah. I knew about those. To be honest, I wish vehicles were a lot more frequent. I liked the Mod servers that had like a thousand cars and dozens of helicopters. Really, why would these things be rare in a zombie apocalypse? I simply don't have the time to play for hours and hours assembling a car just to hide it in the deep woods. just my personal preference.
-
You're right but if the bike doesn't have gear then it would be quite hard to go up hill which is what I was trying to say. Currently vehicles decrease damage from bullets if they have doors, so It's better than being completely open.
-
Are there really going to be bicycles? I've only seen the Enduro/Dirtbike renders, which I'm pretty stoked about. It seems like the perfect vehicle for the lone scavenger, even though they'll be pretty noisy. Bicycles with a 6 or even 12 gear change would be awesome as well. In the mods it was always a great way to get around and meet up with friends. I wonder how long it will take to get bikes in-game. It would be funny, if we could have those small bikes you can dissemble and put in a storage somewhere, even on the car, perhaps. Vehicles like that will add a lot of variation to the gameplay. The cars are probably always going to be a pain to maintain and repair, and unless you have a protected base, there is no good place to park them at when more vehicles become available.
-
Well, if you are lone wolf, you have to be wolf then. Either find hidden vehicles in their camps or make ambush for clan in vehicles. There is 1,5 second animation for entering, exiting vehicles and there is chance to eliminate them with SVD and land mines.
-
Uh, actually, bicycles are the most energy-efficient vehicles ever devised by man. For the same energy input required for walking, you can coast along at 20 mph. You can strap various baskets and containers on the frame for added storage space. Oh, and bikes are really easy to fix. Plus, they don't require various parts, fuels, lubricants, oils. Just some grease and pedal-power. You can make wheels from rope, carved wood, or cut-down tires. Chains can be improvised from rope or cords ( I've done it with a shoelace) https://www.exploratorium.edu/cycling/humanpower1.html Plus, you can hide a bike almost infinitely easier than you can a car. Hear some vehicle coming down the road? Ride off into the woods and stash the bike behind a tree. You can pick up and carry a bike if you need to, not to mention just push them everywhere. Not..... so much with a car. Also, no vehicle in the game will "protect you from bullets". All of the rifle calibers in the game will punch through the thin sheet metal siding of all of the games motor vehicles. http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/NoBikesInTheApocalypse
-
Because a bike won't protect you from bullets, because a bike would logically consump from your own resources? Do you think the bike would not affect your stamina at all or something? You're wrong. The bike is not going to be your go-to anytime soon. Let me tell you something, try riding a bike with a 40kg bag and a weapon at your back along with an axe, a vest and stuff. Unless you are specifically used to do this all the time you're going to get really tired. Also let me point out something, they didn't add the bikes first to the game because they had to work on the physics and it was a better idea to add a truck and then add the other vehicles and then a bike, because a bike would have different physics compared to a truck.

If you mean that the clans get only stronger, I can't disagree. But I don't see that the presence of cars would bring lone wolves together, being one. All they're gonna do is compensate with server hopping, like I've done these days. Don't get me wrong, I shun any kind of abuse. I used to play only on private 1pp servers with day& night cycles (no gamma correction), like God intended. The last time I hopped servers was to set up rabbit snares to catch my first rabbit. But nowadays, I imagine that private servers have next to no vehicles available. Mobility begets mobility, as once a group has their first car, it's easier to get another. This way, as long as they drive carefully, a clan of five can strip a server clean of vehicles. And don't tell me that's realistic, I want to have fun, dammit. I stopped playing DayZ mainly because running is boring. We need to face the fact that with all that 'loot-die-repeat' action, DayZ can be at times boring as shit. I swear to God I have a lithium battery at hand just to block the 'W' button, solely for DayZ. If it's necessary in the final release, I say fuck this game. And I'm not being hypocritical here, it's really important to me not to hop servers... I guess that just driving a Lada is more important, after all. So until you invent a jetpack which runs on integrity, I'm gonna try and compete with clans for those sweet sweet cars. Or drop out and wait for more content (in this case, bikes), as I always did in the entire 2015.
-
Vehicles are a bit of a group activity and "end game." It should be more difficult for a solo player to get one up and running. It wouldn't make much sense to cram even a car wheel into a backpack. That said, wheels are persistent at this time so gathering them isn't really that big of an issue. 2 hours really is not that long for DayZ. These sort of events are supposed to be time consuming because the pay off can greatly reduce time spent in other areas. You go from taking 30 minutes to run the map to 5 mins to drive it. You can now transport well beyond your maximum capacity and group play gains a huge benefit. As a side note, the v3s is bugged last I checked and you don't actually need a glowplug. It's also supposedly a terrible vehicle this patch.
-
The reason more complex vehicles came first is because they are designing and testing the mechanic for maximum complexity from the outset. Just like they did with the m4 being the most modular gun and also the first. Then saving the simpler stuff for later because it's easier to do once you have that framework in. In my own opinion, whether it was intentional or not, I am also glad they added cars before bikes because they encourage more cooperation. The game was already at a point where individuals ran as fast as a bicycle so it seemed silly to me to encourage lone players bolting around the map at even greater speeds. That is just my own opinion.
-
Wait for helicopters =P The map really is pretty small with vehicles. It's even pretty small with regular running.
-
After completing all four vehicles, I can say that the bus and truck are virtually next-to-useless now. The truck deals better with rougher terrain (as it's shorter), but has less power, too. Volga is great for roads, but can't navigate much more besides flat-ish grasslands (but we crashed it too early to know for sure). By comparison, I believe Lada Niva can reach 99% of the map and has great acceleration and maneuverability. Definitely the best car and the only one really worth the effort. I can't wait for playable car physics, I was a tad surprised that it took them six months for the bus to drive like this, but I'm looking forward for the final thing. I almost pissed my pants when I drove the entire map with the offroad in a blink of time (now I kinda find it hard to believe how much we were running). As much a game-changer as it gets.
