I am pretty excite for the next DayZ SA update. Does anyone know when the update will be coming out? Also what can we expect in the new update?

no eta for the new update. We don't know when it will be released. I'm sure we will see the new renderer, but not sure about the other tech like animation system, infected, CLE...

A new Status Report will be released today, maybe the devs have some new informations for us :-)

in the true style of dayz dev. Dean Hall AND brian Hicks 'it will be done when it's done' so the update will come when it comes... no use making topics like these... all we can do is 'hope' and wait.. wild guess? half of april-ish.. maybe longer. depending on how many botches/hick ups/bugs/game breakers they run into int he coming 2-3 weeks.

Mixed Research on the Effects of Video Games

Research conclusions point to the belief that playing violent video games, particularly those where gamers take on the persona of the game character, can increase a person’s aggressive thoughts, feelings, and behavior. [Dill, K. E. (2000]. In addition, there’s a connection between playing violent video games and impulsivity, and the inability to maintain focus. [Gentile, D. A., & Swing, E. L. (2012)]. "

So, maybe there is something to that research after all. o.O

Hicks says 'when it's done.' Good enough for me, I suppose, but it'd be nice if some sort of time frame could be provided.

Having said that, they said a month ago it might be ready at the end of February which got a lot of peoples' hopes up. I suspect they want to avoid giving any kind of ETA, since issues sometimes take longer than expected to iron out.

.60 is taking a while, sure, but I've no doubt it'll be the biggest update DayZ has ever had. I'd rather wait a few weeks for them to iron out the major issues than dive in to a .60 which is virtually unplayable.

Yeah feel kinda the same. Just wondering why they made their stupid announcements pending since December and before. Honestly - I'm expecting 0.60 since summer last year...

The thing I'm thinking though, is that they should add the features that were announced, but couldn't make it into a February release; well not planned, but you know...conjured?!

The radio station should be in. Reworked Cherno and possibly some more new environments. If at all possible add bikes or at least improve the cars (getting stuck on air, de-sync, etc.) If the problem with 0.60 is indeed with certain blockers, I don't see a reason, why the other features shouldn't be implemented, as possible. The code for e.g. the radio station seems to be done and all assets are ready. I really feel like this belongs in 0.60 as something new to do (there is no other new feature, or is there?); I'm not particularly keen on the radio station, but I wanna find out what the devs have in mind with it. It seems like the most pointless asset ever, but that can't be right.

Seriously, I'm playing everything but Dayz for weeks now, because every week I hope for the update. I have several completely geared characters and camps on servers, but don't feel like running in 0.59 any more. I haven't had great player interaction lately, so I'm really looking forward to getting back into the more friendly atmosphere of an experimental server. On the bright side: Life is Feudal releases its Beta next month, so there is a game I'll play for a looong time. These devs are two weeks late with their Beta, btw. Some people can plan even sandbox games...

I've said it before and I'll say it again...

They say they have some blockers preventing release of .60... and if the state of vehicles now wasn't a blocker then something must be really and truly fucked to prevent it from at least launching to experimental. Like, start over from scratch type fucked.

I'm a DayZ supporter... but when I saw that one of the big issues was the fact that some new "thing" needed to be worked into every gun in the game I thought to myself "Well, fuck you then for adding so many god damned guns before you developed the other content." I smile when I say that- I don't mean it in a fist shaking way- but now whoever's bright idea it was to add 10 guns to any new survival content item is now reaping what he sows.

Anywho...

I'm of the opinion that they did not do their due diligence in identifying the possible confounding factors in their test groups.  Perhaps there are dietary similarities in their test group that they did not make the proper efforts to identify; like frequently consuming caffeinated beverages and having a diet consisting mainly of Doritos and Hot Pockets.
Or perhaps the type of people drawn to playing violent video games already have those qualities.  I see no concrete causal relationship.  It rather makes more sense that people with such identified qualities would be more apt to play violent video games as a means of safely expressing their pre-existing aggressive thoughts.

Nice try though. ; )

Nice insight.  We finally have a solid reason to back all of those complaints about the addition of all these new guns before getting the final working tech in place.  Kinda like setting the table before you have chosen a tablecloth...

Very well put. Also like choosing the menu before you had a kitchen.

Hate to rag on these guys since I'm a firm believer it is simply impatience talking and I know nothing about game development. What I do know is that the game has been in a downward slide away from the concept I bought into, and Hicks is a staunch pvp guy and mentions it at every turn... Any coincidence that everything pvp has been sensationalized since the beginning of the community updates? Oh AWESOME! We get choppers and rocket launchers AND a machine gun? SWEET- but only as long as it comes with 4 month lead times on updates.

Fuck sakes.

I wouldn't draw any conclusions quite yet. Just have an open mindset.

I played all experimental updates. There are always 3 or 4 major updates every 5-6 days and then two weeks of polishing and bug fixing. This will be big engine overhoul so expect even more bugs

the only thing pointless about the radio station in my opinion is that there's only 1... so in the first few weeks there are going to be hordes of people streaming towards it.. fighting for control.. since its a central broadcast point on the server.. so why not let the entire server know you're listening to the trololol song? or rick roll them for having 'the power'

after these things have been done.. it will slowly become 'just another building' just like green mountain.. I knew GM from back in the MOD... army jeep/truck so 'dang it we need a car!' (heads to GM picks up the cars, drives off) so long GM...
on RP servers I played.. it was a central site for UN forces RP along side scientists trying to figure out a way to broadcast to the outside world.. and working on a cure.. besides that. GM doesn't have much use...
I have the feeling that this one radio station will ultimately suffer the same fate as GM, when it's 'no longer fun'

To me the radio station feels like a gadget. I've picked up radios before and tried for hours on rather full servers to get in touch with someone. You know how often I had someone reply? - never. Only if I take two radios and drop one (with a note + inside a container), I occasionally find a player smart enough to pick it up; takes preparation and luck and still is pointless. Unless there is a reason to use the radio station, e.g. to activate PA in a military base/city to draw infected out + away, then I don't know what else you should use the radio station for. I hope it will be more than the gadget you describe, which would only lets us annoy other people.

Today is maintenance. I really hope something is gonna happen, but most likely no. I think they said they need some more weeks to rule out the blockers.

The people who will be heading for the radio station are all on TeamSpeak already, right? (so what do they want it for?) - unless they like PvP capture the flag

the porto's are only logic on RP servers with strict rules.. as pilgrim said: 'most people are on TS in groups already so there's no 'meeting people' and most people you meet online are either 12 yo kids or it turns into a KoS situation rather quickly on public servers.
porto's and the way you use them... is only logic in RP servers/Rp situations.

like you said.. full server nobody picks them up.. why? because they take up a space that can hold 100 ACP .45 rounds.. that's how most people think..
all the 'camps' you see on youtube broadcasts.. are PACKED with guns in barrels and enough ammo/clips to start WO XXVIII (28) so...
no real use for most 'call of dayz' players anyways

Well, one reason nobody uses the radios is, because you feel stupid sitting at home and talking to yourself. What the radios need is an option to send out a distress call or breaker signal, so someone else can pick that up and chime in. At least you'll know someone is listening at the other end and don't have to repeat saying foolish things to yourself all the time.
