Pick up the pace

Recommended Posts

I don't mind the pace of the development of the game. I enjoy waiting for patches, and seeing whats coming next. I don't think its slow, considering what they have to achieve. Building an engine and a game at the same time is no easy task. I do think that Beta in Q1 of 2016 is a huge stretch though and i wish they wouldn't set these kinds of goals and make them public cus it backfires.

Conception and design are the easy part... WarZ anyone? It's the execution that takes the real time.

You are certainly correct. delivery is where people fail. And this delivery has failed just due to the duration they have taken. Promising as it is. If they had just made a measly 15 million in the alpha offering, they would have burned that and been cancled already.

I think it's far too early to label the project a failure.

Development has definitely fallen way behind schedule and I can fully appreciate why people are frustrated and disappointed by that, but I still trust the devs to learn from their mistakes with regards to project management and deliver a great game in the end.

Isn't it better if it takes longer to finish a project than rushing it and releasing something that is really broken?

Well, next time you'll know not to participate in early access.

Lesson learned, take the positives from it.

Okay some of you don't get it, we're not here to bash the developers about DayZ, DayZ is a game with a perfect concept and once modding will be added it will be even better.

But! There's a fact out here - there's a problem with timing here. I don't think you can disagree with this fact... Timing hasn't gone so good with the dev team and the roadmaps were super inaccurate. I don't find a reason to argue with this fact - whether "we're lucky that we get communication from the developers" as LoK stated.

Mos1ey gets my point good but I think that a status report that actually touches this subject - the delay, the internal issues and everything regarding this problem can be briefly explained to us - not just a word or two about "delay incoming" but a proper explanation - something like what Tochia did but written and up to date.

The problem here is that the team are busy... Time spent writing reports and communicating with the community about delays is time not spent working on the game itself.

I think what would really help is if the team were to hire a community manager for this very purpose but IDK, it's not really my place to make these kind of suggestions. I'm but a humble post shuffler.

-snip- something like what Tochia did but written and up to date.

It's far too soon for a forensic analysis on the last couple of months of development.

You/we don't need to know any of that stuff and honestly you are forming opinions from the outside and are in no position to judge.

Many of us who have followed this project from the beginning have a clear memory of every patch and all the insanity that has come, gone, and been forgotten, by countless new guys with a bone to pick who then disappear when their patience runs out or they become total trolls. The flow of the revolving door on this forum is probably directly correlative to the shelf life of a KoS player in the game it seems....

If you have trouble handling how things are now, then you can imagine how it was when there was LESS communication in the past.

Maybe, try to take solace in the idea that they are trying to improve the flow of communication based on recent changes.

OK this is what you do:

    1 ) Don't buy the game

2 ) WAIT till it comes out as a full price FINISHED PRODUCT

    3 ) Say " Oh WOW a NEW GAME!"

    4 ) Buy it

xx

 -  If you already bought the game

OK this is what you do:

1 ) Hide it away and don't play it

2 ) Wait till it comes out as a FINISHED PRODUCT

    3 ) Say " Oh WOW a NEW GAME! " I must get that !

4 ) Give it to yourself as a present.

5 ) Say "WOW, dude, thank you."

6 ) You just made a friend AND saved yourself some money.

Nope, you don't "model" your map out of nothing in ArmA. You need to create your own elevation map, to draw how the terrain will look like topographically - you'll need to create a satellite map for your map to render in long distances and create a mask layer with a layer config file to render your map from close distances along with all configurations that relate to clutter and etc...

I think you have no idea what's the difference between making a model and making a terrain in arma - these are two different worlds with totally different ways of doing them. Terrain building requires you to put a lot of work and the final product might take even years to finish (For example: Taviana Island for ArmA 2, Napf Island for ArmA 2, Australia for ArmA 3). How much time does it take to model a house? 30 hours? 60 hours the most if you are new to the idea of modelling in ArmA and RVmats.

The funny thing is, you call me a kid while you posted something like this here:

If you have no idea how the mapping and modelling in ArmA works, then don't even commet - you can take a look at the BIStudio forums to learn more about how terrain-making works, there are several tutorials on how to do it - I'd recommend you to use tutorials from ArmA 2 as they are covered in more detail to ArmA 3.

Lol.  I'm not even going to bother.   I was drunk last night so I'm sorry I ripped you a new one but maybe, just maybe though, you should try wrapping your head around the concepts you've read on a wiki.  It's not entirely rocket appliances.  Start by googling "what is a 3d model" and then try to figure out why there are different ways to create such geometry.

Hello there

The devs dont *owe* us any info.

Same goes for friendly and respectful service in shops or restaurants... what kind of argument is that?

Sure there is no mandate to do so - but come on.

@OP

forget about BETA I just want to know about 0.59 experimental

Drunk people should stay off the keyboard. I've been modelling weapons for the past 3 months, been making a terrain for the past 5 months. I know how things work in ArmA, trust me on that one.

Anyway if you're a modeller and younlike DayZ try making addons for ArmA and once mod support comes the process might be similiar somehow.

I read this whole discussion, I can understand your opinions on specific topics. But you just wrote that you are modeling for 5 month's on Arma things now. And I guess DayZ modeling will be somehow similar to the Arma titles, but you don't know shit about the DayZ modeling itself. So don't talk like you would be a total professional in any of this unless there are official resources that you can use and experiment with.

However the game makes good progress from an programming standpoint, at least from what we read in the status reports.

In your position I would take a long break from DayZ until there are the features your waiting so damn hard for.

yay! you replied while i was mostly sober. Good work on your art!  I'm almost certain you know at least the bare minimum about what you're on about and I'm sure you'll be able to answer the very basic questions I asked you. I'll just hang here until you do.

I mean, lol, the terrain isn't modelled.  Feel free to explain why you think that and be sure to include examples of how artists are not inputting data into a system for your character to be able to walk around on.   You know, Blender is the only way to create an object that someone can walk around on.

Arseny Senchi needs to see this and laugh with me. Your ignorance and refusal to learn how things work in ArmA makes you sound real stupid.

As I said before, ArmA terrains use heightmaps to calculate the terrain's elevation. You can learn more in the BIStudio forums where people contributed hours to make tutorials about making a terrain for ArmA and it should be similiar to how DayZ will do it. So how about go there and educate yourself instead of making some bullshit on the forums that will make any developer see this and laugh at you.

Ok  guys stop it.

I've made worlds with Worldcraft, UnrealEd & Hammer / Source, none can be compared with how BI Tools function when creating Islands/Worlds/Maps (gave up after the 3rd mask / map (height ?). The island was based on Crete in the mediterranean sea.

The other three mentioned are really quite simple in comparison.

As for the subject of this Topic,,,meh !....

I have read this again from 2013 nearly 2 years ago and nearly 3 years from the start of development

BEFORE YOU BUY, READ ME! -

to summarize, do not buy this game but it will get more expensive for you if you do not. (even this is not true, the "alpha" is still the same cost

There will be monthly weakly and daily builds.(that would be cool)

No mention of the game being completed in 2017..

someone needs to be able to pressure the developers into delivering this game.

Once mod support is here no one will even care about the state of the game and more people will buy it for mods.
