Exp Update: 0.58 + Hot Fix.

Did you also know that military boots can hold a military knife. Still yet to try the knife in the boots personally.

It's always one of the main things I look for.  Strangely, even though I rarely hunt anymore, and always carry a can opener or improvised knife for cans, I feel naked without my pristine military boots and pristine boot knife.  Can't tell you how many times I've risked my life going through tents looking for a stupid knife.  Then, when I find them, I put them in barrels with vests, pistol, mnedkits, and food, so that if I die I have a starter kit.  Then, when I die, I don't want to use my stashes, so I just go looking for more.

This game doesn't make you crazy, it reveals how crazy you already are.

I'd rather have then push to stable when THEY are ready. There have been many times where the build was pushed to stable where problems didn't show up at first.

Anyone else having serious lag on SC02?  I've tried several other servers this morning, and all work well.  But, SC02 - unplayable - takes 1-2 minutes to get a menu option to open a can of soda.

Yes, but come on - this build has been on experimental longer than any before. And we've had attempts of the CLE before (when high yield military gear spawned mostly in outhouses ^^). From how I see it, this build is pretty stable. Persistence works for me, although it is seemingly bugged in the vicinity of dynamic events (thanks freethink, for the info!). Containers and crafting are working for the most part. It would also explain why in those cities with dynamic events sometimes little to no loot spawns at all.

All this let aside 0.58 exp is the most enjoyable build, I have played for a while. Even though it still has problems, it runs great (for the most part) and is fun to play. They have pushed far less stable versions to... stable, before. And learned from it. But this one is long overdue and while I don't want the team to work on fixing stable, while working on the next experimental at the same time, I think releasing stable soon, is the way to go here. I'm pretty confident these issues just have to do with the radius of events and can be fixed without too much of an effort. I'd give them another week to try fixing it on experimental, but then making a push to stable and fine-tuning those prevailing issues.

it's a bug, currently everything behaving with the new physics sticks to walls when thrown at them

Really? That is one of the most awesome bugs ever though. Ever since I found out about it, I wanna use the notes to set up an ambush or to leave some messages to my friends. However, I think the papers despawn pretty quickly (like food/clothes dropped on the ground).

This happens to me occasionally, and I have no clue what causes it. The server runs completely fine, until there are a few minutes where it takes ages to open a barrel lid, or drop anything from my gear. I usually wait for about 10-15 minutes and reconnect and the server runs smooth again. It's a weird thing, I wonder if it has anything to do with dynamic event, i.e. when all the choppers respawn, etc. I'd be really curious if others experienced this, too. So far I always noticed it when I was at my barrels, but had no issues elsewhere.

Oh yeah, regarding that list.. I wish backpacks would last longer, they are the only way to relatively safely stash something imo. What about guns laying on the floor?

I think backpacks actually stay longer. We've had packs stay for well over 3 days I want to say. I don't know what the stated number is for weapons, but same goes for them. We've had piles of weapons well over 3 days.

I don't think I've really been on  in 3 days, I can check the packs that we've had on the ground heh.

Have you or anyone in your group interacted with said backpacks and guns during that time? Also yeah, let us know if you found your camp still intact. :D If someone interacted with it during your absence it should definitely still be there.

on exp. the time is longer, the 3 days are planned for the stable version.

if i remember correct, weapons should stay 3 hours, clothes 30 minutes.

also on exp. it has no effect if you touch you stuffed bags or not, this will also come with stable version.

I believe it may be related to being within the network bubble of a large camp...see this:

https://www.reddit.com/r/dayz/comments/3i7bx7/58_possible_issue_loot_stashes_become/

This is something that just started happening after the latest update to .58. Hadn't happened much before that. I'll explain how it happened from my point of view without trying to "predict" or "solve" what the problem is so I don't lead you guys to jump to conclusions based on my theory. That way I can be open to a different interpretation in case what I'm seeing isn't what I think it is.

My clan has had to move our camp three times because of this. Basically to a different server but similar location.

Each time, we begin accumulating a stash. Everything works fine. At the point where there are around 2-3 full barrels, a few full backpacks, and a pile of guns (not many) we have noticed that at the next scheduled server restart, when we go back to our stash, the following happens:

If you are in the area of the stash, or close by, any commands having to do with inventory take up to 30 seconds to complete. For example, if I click and drag an item in my backpack and try to move it to my pants, I will have to wait 30 seconds before the item appears to have moved. If I walk up to a barrel and command to open lid, it can take up to 30 seconds of seeing the "receiving" message for the list of commands before the options come up to choose one, and then another 30 seconds after I click to open the barrel before it appears to open. Basically any and all movement or manipulation of any piece of loot will take up to 30 seconds for each command to take place before I can move further.

The tricky part is that if I move away at least, I'd say 1/2 to 1 kilometer away from the stash, everything returns to normal. Items behave in the normal amount of time, no excessive waiting. But walk back to the vicinity of the stash and the long "receiving" times return as well as the long delays in commands.

From early August...

Fortunately, players can now create camps and store their supplies and weapons at them during their treks

across Chernarus. Different containers / objects have different lifetimes. Currently, they operate as follows:

- Medium Tent (Pitched): 45 Days

- Military Tent (Pitched): 45 Days

- Car Tent (Pitched): 45 Days

- Barrels: 45 Days

- Ammo Boxes: 45 Days

- Protector Cases: 45 Days

- Backpacks (All types): 3 Days

Current functionality on experimental does not allow for refreshing the lifetime of an object without picking it up,

so tents and barrels were set to a lifetime that will cover the time to .59 + some safety room in case of .59 stable

blockers. Once .59 is pushed to stable, we will support the refresh of a base objects lifetime via interacting with it

(moving, placing, picking up any item inside it) - which will operate as follows:

- Medium Tent (Pitched): 7 Days

- Military Tent (Pitched): 7 Days

- Car Tent (Pitched): 7 Days

- Barrels: 7 Days

- Ammo Boxes: 7 Days

- Protector Cases: 7 Days

- Backpacks (All types): 3 Days

See now I'm all sorts of confused.

Either way, I don't think some of this info is entirely correct. As I've said before, weapons stay for a long period of time. We've had piles of weapons, some we would never touch, that have stayed around for days. I've definitely seen clothes stay longer than 30 minutes. A friend of ours just started playing and he dumped his clothes in a pile in our camp and we made multiple trips out of the camp only to come back and they were still there. We were gone a lot longer than 30 minutes.

The packs were interacted with, probably not all of them, but probably 90% of them but supposedly interacting with them doesn't refresh on stable.

These are just my experiences, not trying to refute anything but just mentioning what I've personally seen.

So who the hell knows heh.

Just one quick note: New UI is FUBAR with lower resolutions, impossible to use it.

Prease don't make it the only option until it works on potato resolutions, otherwise I will not be able to play no more :(

Music to my ears.  The current stable build is really bad and .58 fixes that and adds in some nice improvements.

I've been wondering if the huge stashes I've been finding are hurting item spawns on the server. I'll find 2 or 3 on every server I go, and it makes me wonder if thats why I can't find any military loot etc. I know there is a spawn timer, but eventually I should find something right ?

I understand it's irrelevant  -but that's just what I have heard.

However, the bug mentioned above (where it takes a minute to perform any action), has made me decide that, going forward, I'll have many camps of only a single barrel.  On the S and E, those will be starter kit barrels: vest (high cap or plate carrier with the trimmings most likely), pistol+mag and ammo, boots+knife, food, medkit, compass, matches, and either a long gun or a battery and plug.  Further, NW, I'll have barrels with only high end equipment in my barrels - better rifles with mags and scopes, smersh combos, the occasional hunter pack.  If I would just spread out the loot that's in my current camp, I could go from beach to fully geared at least thrice.

Leaving it all in one spot is just poor risk management.  But, I admit, its nice for the pretty pictures.

Don't you find military gear in the stashes you find? What's the difference, where you find your loot? Some people are probably specialising in camp-looting by now, because the potential reward is a lot higher than checking the military bases. I've had best luck with military loot around the choppers. I didn't find anything but ammo on my trip across the northern airfield- but I've only been there once lately and couldn't complete my search, because I got shot. I think the spawns in military barracks aren't working right, though. There is more civilian than military loot in those barracks.

barracks are crap for military loot now. the new open 10 bunkbed style barracks and the quigonjin huts are where its at and the tents themselves, seen some kinds of AKs/sks there several times.

Most people keep their mil weps on their person it seems. I find loads of civ weps and some mil mags but no AK or M4's or Augs in camps.

I left an m4 in a camp once, between NWAF and that town above lopatino next to a stonewall. since both the gun and the pretty well camoflagued backpack were gone I assume it was because there is helicoper crashsites  everywhere around it.

Eugen has already discussed this. The CLE ignores items on a player's person, as well as those items in containers when it makes its calculations/decisions.

Details on the CLE are scattered about, but lots of good info can be found here: http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/223307-central-economy

It seems to me that Tatanko made a summary of this. Perhaps someone knows where this can be found?

While I will agree that it's fun to build a base, especially with a few other survivors, IMHO, the decentralized approach is a much better strategy. I usually scatter barrels near my usual haunts. Tents stick out like a sore thumb, especially the civilian models, but barrels are much easier to conceal.

We do not see lower frame rates in cities, merely because the game is struggling to render buildings ... the higher concentration of loot in these areas is a significant factor in the FPS.
