I believe it is but rare to get it, I never have but do swim over when I pass by and it's hit or miss whether you could last very long on the island. I went over tonight making my way along the south coast before I turned north up the east coast. There's no wildlife for food, no netting to make a fish trap, a few times I've found seeds, a garden tool, a water bottle, canteen, or tincture bottle but I don't think I've ever found everything for farming without rain in one trip. Usually a few canned or dry goods and a well could get you a good start if you spawned there and swam off healthy but nothing that would sustain you long term if you spawned there. The deer stand seems to spawn shotgun snap loaders consistently right now which is part of why I swan over tonight.

Made fertilizer with a barrel tonight and that was interesting, first tried lots like 10  less than 50% stacks of fish guts (worn stone knife) and 3 full stacks of plant matter and in a bunch of tries consuming a bit of guts each time could make 8-16% full bags of fertilizer. Later I tried with 4 100% stacks of fish guts and about 6 100% stacks of plant material and made 1 83% bag of fertilizer consuming all the guts and some of the plant material. Still not sure how it works and I have more pumpkins and fish than I know what to do with.

Using the fish trap and repairing it with duct tape some more it's all over the board how much tape it uses to fix it each time. My second round of fishing it was always higher than the first few like 15-16% of a roll instead of 10-12% like my first bout. My last attempt I only had 11% left and it used the whole roll but was still just badly damaged after and repairable still. Not sure if repairing it has diminishing returns or it's just a broad range that the RNG uses.

How many spaces was the fertilizer bag?

Finally got in after killing off my character on stable in entertaining fashion. Spawned in Elektro. Town was baron of loot, not a stitch of clothing, etc. Made my way north chewing on some berries and apples. It was awesome struggling from brown and red starving to energized in Staroye. Found a truck in the middle of the woods with a cow pelt in it. Didn't bother with it as I had food priorities.

What's with all the empty quivers? I have a crossbow but found 4-5 quivers that were empty. Isn't it easier just to carry the quivers and reload than loose bolts?

Never understood the appeal of quivers.  They just take 2x space as the five bolts, right?

On that topic duct tape can repair the new net and wire fish trap from badly damaged back to damaged indefinitely. 10-12% of the roll each time. Whoohoo infinite fishes.

Thanks for posting this. Added to the changelog :)

You can survive there, but it would be difficult (and admittedly kinda boring at the moment). You would have a much better time gathering up tools and materials on the mainland, then going back to stay there. Hopefully in the future, there will be animals and perhaps even a slightly more diverse selection of plants.

Awesome! Glad to hear it's working, along with clothes dyeing. Anyone tried modifying the barrel in this build for use as a fireplace?

Yep. A few hours ago everything loaded up without issue.

Not sure if this is new or ...

wvBp0WQ.jpg

I'm referring to "The fish broke away taking the bait with it".   I got it 4 times in a row

In the past every time a fish had taken the bait, I'd caught it.

edit:  I'm not complaining, I think it's better this way  :P

It's been there , you just had to really suck at fishing like me to get it in earlier patches lol ....

The quiver attaches directly to the crossbow, like a speed-loader.

On the persistence front, SC02:

While my earlier tents, barrels and packs despawned, I have now had a barrel in place for 2 days (with its cargo intact).  Further, have had several packs on the ground for two days.

My trucks, and their gear has generally remained in place for 5 days now.  Oddly, though, it seems that some of the stuff in the trucks has become invisible - you can't take it out, the space looks empty, but you can't add anything to it.  Happened with both an UMP and a jerry can.  Adding and removing stuff to the truck doesn't fix it.  Don't have a battery or glow plug to start the truck and see if moving it fixes the issue.

I know someone came to my camp at some point in the last 12 hours; at first I thought they took the UMP (and maybe they did, but there's an unusable 4x3 space in the truck where the UMP was) - they definitely took some RAK mags and switched their green talon for my blue mountain pack.  I wish they had signed the guest book.  I leave pen and paper in the UMP truck asking folks to tell me when they were there so I can try and figure out how the persistence works/doesn't.

It seems I've lost my touch too

I managed to catch two carp but it took about 10 attempts (and 10 worms).

Had to run back to camp and grab the farming hoe to dig worms, now I'll keep it in my fishing pack by the pond.

A stone knife will do that job now, by the way :)

Wow, I can understand that I miss a fish every now and then while reading the forums but missing that much fish, never happened to me.

By the way you can use a stone knife to dig up worms, you know that right?

I'm so grateful that the developers listen to our suggestions. It is actually proof that they read this topic and are active with the community.

Did anyone notice Zeds in the regular experimental servers last night (I.e the non-zombie test ones)? I saw two in Cherno and was surprised they were in and my friend killed like 3 at the coast of Cherno lol , I wonder though as I played on the same server this morning , if the Zeds are now removed as I havent seen any since last night !

Hmm I tried the stone knife just to see and couldn't get the 'dig worms' options.

I was probably fussing about the wrong the type of terrain

Yeah because fishing, horticulture and apple and/or berry picking doesn't suddenly exist anymore.

Expect the first two all require you to find something.  Have fun trying to grow crops without seeds, water, tools and the fertilizer.  Fishing maybe but again you actually need to find items to make it work, not like you can catch them with your hands.  And no, I am not playing a game where I spend all my time picking apples.  Never had much luck with berries,  is it more productive than picking apples?

My point was that it seems almost all the spawn points cities are barren of anything worth while.  You are better off just blowing them off and using that extra time traveling further inland and hoping someone else did't already hit up the next village.   Unless the loot system ramps up with server activity, I seriously doubt the current system would be able to handle a fully populated server.  Not to mention you completely neglected the elements.  My first death last night was actually due to it being night, raining and no proper clothing because Svet was empty and someone had already cleared Olsha out.  So eventually the cold, rain and already low food levels spelled my doom.

Get on GD first person server guys , it's the first time in a month 1PP server has 20 people on it !

I was playing upon the SE 1pp server last weekend but I noticed last night they were gone.  I am more of a 3pp type of person (not because I like "peaking") and it was an interesting change but having around 6 people on the server made it pretty boring and I eventually went back to 3pp.

It's impossible for them to see everything, but they see a lot, and the best ideas usually get the attention they deserve. Unfortunately, they can't give us everything we want, but often times they want the same things we do and it just takes time to make it happen :)

They've been in every build of 0.58 so far, according to Hicks. Even when it seems like there aren't any, apparently there are at least a few (not sure where though).

Yeah, probably the wrong terrain. I think it has to be the lighter-colored grass areas; it can't be in the woods or anything like that.

My point was that it seems almost all the spawn points cities are barren of anything worth while.

That's kind of the point, though. If the coastal cities had everything you need, there would be no motivation for anyone to head inland.

That's just the point I'm trying to make. Don't tell me that I need to make a video for you on how to survive.

While you actually try to survive and keep dying because of the lack of food and the environment, I'm happily looting everything.

But yeah, I guess that most players don't have the patience and don't want to fish, make a fire if they're cold, etc.

What was the server name? I didn't see any but when the exp servers came down yesterday because of the battle-eye error, the only servers that were still semi populated were the infected spawn test servers and two US-NE-01/02 servers, not the same as US-North East yadda yadda. I think those two had some ties to the infected spawn test perhaps and may have had zombies, just a guess. But if you weren't on either of those, then that whole guess goes out the window heh.

If there were any, they were either very rare or only on certain servers. The guys that I run with usually end up around the whole damn map, especially since we were all freshies yesterday.
