I love that castle but the problem he'll face is that there are no ashwoods close by. :(  There's also no immediate fountain.

 

(Grishno isn't too far form there however and has a fountain)

Well, he cant have everything on his doorstep. He can cut ashwood sticks on the way there. I think there is tree in Novy. If there are all resurces there it will atract other players.

I have been playing for two days again now and I do have a couple of questions: Have the Zeds been taken out of exp? I have not encountered even one. And where can I find these storage or multipurpose barrels / what do they look like?

 

Yes, okay, one more: If I empty a jerry can and I fill it with water - is it safe to drink / is that even possible?

LOL good questions. Yes Zeds are gone for now. Someone said they found a barrel next to a police car. I have no idea about the jerry can idea, that's a great idea.

I just made it back to my tent after a week of hiking and yup, it's gone. Luckily before I left, I grabbed everything I couldn't live without. I really did like that sporter 22 with 2 30 rd mags..I was wondering how fun that would be if I could get the hunting scope on it. Using the Winchester 70 and the barrel really pops up when you fire it. I saw a military tent on my way back to camp, but I just can't find a place to hide that monster. Maybe on top of the tower at nw airfield :-D

As far as I know the infected have indeed been taken out. If you want to be sure, check NWAF. If no infected are there then they have defintely taken them out.

About the barrels, I stumbled across one just after the persistence and loot wipe. It was on the hood of a police car in Lopatino. Currently I'm not able to play so I can't take a screenshot for you. I found one on Google though. I found the one which is at the left.

 

 

About the jerry can, yes it is possible, I tried that at the current stable patch. I filled it with water from a pond and purified it. I filled a PET bottle and drank it and got sick after it shortly after. After that I tried it again but I filled the jerry can up and emptied it like 5 times. I then threw in a few purification tablets and tried it again. Strange enough I didn't got sick but I only drank one bottle instead of a few which I did at the first time. So perhaps it was luck and there is a percentage you can get sick of it. I placed the jerry can in a backpack and it disappeared somehow.

 

So if you don't have any medication at hand, I wouldn't try it. Perhaps something new to test for in the future because a jerry can takes only like 5 % to fill up a PET bottle.

Yes, it should be safe to drink. I took a jerry can full of water to my camp a few patches ago, because I hadn't any water source nearby. The can was not persistent, though. Haven't tried and haven't found a jerry can it in this experimental...

Aw you guys are awesome, so many answers in such a short time :) Thanks folks! I would absoluteky LOVE to be able to fill a jerry can with water in case you don't have the stamina / health or whatever to carry around a barrel - but also I would love to see some plastic barrels, which of course should be rare.

Wow there are so many possibilities... just set it out and catch rainwater to see how much it fills up and how many pure's it takes to make it safe to drink and and and... the possibilities are truly endless here...

So it looks like they are working on the loot situation. Spawned into the same server that I've been with since .56 exp and there definitely is more loot but nowhere near as much as you'd usually find on a sparse stable server. At least there is progress though. Thank you debs for listening and acting

There are some Zeds, encountered some on the way to Severograd from Gorka - very very few Zeds so almost non existant

Enjoying this EXP, yes loot is hard to come by but I really like how it forces you to really be resourceful and it is more PVE than anything on this patch. This below is a beast, apologies to the dude I had to kill to get the scope (already had the Rifle with 5 rounds), it was kill or be killed type situation ...

There's room to place a military tent at the top of a castle tower. Ask me how I know ;)

Correct - You'll need a full length ashwood stick from a tree. Sticks from bushes, or from on the ground do not work for this.

Concerning your "misinformation" about sprinting, did you really test yourself that the time saved by sprinting instead of jogging is not actually worth it when you spend it to pick apples or berries? I personally think that currently it is very well worth sprinting and in exchange looking for more apples or berries, especially as long as spam searching apples is still a thing. I survive just fine with sprinting. As you cannot be bothered to actually test shit and prefer to just insult others who do not share your opinion, I did it for you:

I assume that sprinting and picking apples in the saved time is not a worse to travel around than jogging. Pure blasphemie!

• I take Ebrims post about apple and berrie picking: http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/225227-ebrim-goes-foraging-forage-yield-experiment-056-exp/ and I accept those values as close enough.
• I compare jogging and sprinting speed.
• I assume that an apple actually give you 69kcal and berries give you 70. That's the figures from http://dayzdb.com and iirc they match with a some site Ebrim linked in his thread.
• I assume WOBO's numbers of energy needed for sprinting, jogging and idleing are correct: 1.6, 0.5 and 0.15 kcal/second. I guess your "3 times more calories" comes from there.
• I personally believe that sprinting is a safer form of travel than jogging. But that is also dependant on your movement patterns and I am sure some will agree while others will disagree. Both have advantages and disadvantes, but as that is not really part of the diskussion, I'll ignore it.

Soooo, we get an average of 2.1 apples per minute. That is 144,9 kcal/min you get by picking apples. For berries (2.5/min) we get 175kcal/min. Just to be conservative, lets take 155kcal/min here. That's 10,1 more than apples, 20 less than with berries.

I did a few test runs and timed them. It seems that sprinting is exactly 50% faster than jogging. That means I can use 1 minute to sprint a certain distance or I can use 1m 30sec to jog the same distance. And I did remember to get my char warmed up to make up for the changing runnings speeds when exhausted.

Let's look at a timeframe of 90 seconds just to make the math simple.

Player 1: Sprinting 1min and useing the saved time (30sec) to get apples or berries.
Energy used: 1.6kcal/sec * 60sec + 0.15kcal/sec * 30sec = 100,5 kcal
Energy gained by apples / berries found: 0.5min * 155kcal/min = 77,5 kcal ... actually, just thinking of all that time it takes to eat an apple ... lets lower the picking time to 25 sec, haven't measured the time it takes to eat the apple...with 25 seconds for picking we get 64,5 kcal we gained.
So in total player 1 lost 100,5 kcal - 64,5 kcal = 36 kcal

Player 2: jogging 1.5 minutes to to arrive at player 1's apple tree or berrie bush.
Energy used: 0.5kcal/sec * 90 sec = 45 kcal

So the sprinting "misinformed" player 1 who used the gained time to pick apples used 80% of the energy the "well informed" jogger used. Or the other way around, the jogger needed 25% more energy. Sprinting FTW!

Maybe eating an apple or berrie takes more than 5 seconds? Fine! As long as apple spamming is still in (it was still working when the posts were written, I haven't tried since) it is totally irrelevant!

Is my math wrong? My fault, tell me! Maybe I just made a mistake, possible. Or maybe I rushed this, I need to split my time between "defending the whiners" and "hating on them". And then there is all my ignorance I have to spread around.

 

Maybe the figures from Wobo's video are not correct any more, maybe Ebrim did not collect enough apples / berries to reach a statistically relevant number, maybe the game changed since last week, all possible. There was some loot left because it spawned a bit further from the crash (about10m). I didnt see it untill i used bloomsticks, nothing of value tho.

 

This is what i collected in about 10 minutes in Vybor. I found a barrel @the police car. Everything that's in barrel, was found in Vybor. 

 

 

Which only shows people are hopping experimental like crazy but dont care even looking around the corner

Veresnik was stripped off every item and so were the mil. buildings in NWAF.

Sever hopping is ridiculous BUT I have found in exp that every now and again the sever I'm on goes wrong and I cant access any items in my inventory. Sometimes this happens every 10 mins or so.... the only thing I can do is hop onto another sever....

 

But yeah in general its a joke. I only play private in stable because of this.

hoppers know that barracks are empty now, if you want to catch them, camp "bathroom" (guard smal building, unenterable, with one colum on the left side). just go one guy there, they stand still to loot these places, easy shots, easy loot  :) . the guy that i got had PSO 1 and PSO 1-1, fulls smersh vest... no wonder if he hopped  :P

 

Harry, the first good advice i had on 0.56 was : "don't use your hotbar"  ;)
