Stable Branch - 0.55 Discussion

Recommended Posts

Pretty much. That's what Hicks said when the first "complaints" about broken loot or mechanics. During a certain period (0.43 experimental I think.) they changed the season to winter, and started testing the first iteration of the rain mechanic and getting colder while being wet. 70% of players complained that the game was unplayable and totally broken, but the answer we got is that we're pretty much guinea pigs on experimental, and they got the data needed to refined and tweak the mechanic.

So no matter how almost everyone hates or find a certain aspect "game breaking" or not working, they acquire data towards where they think the game should go, as it's their choice, we're only participating in the process, not really influencing it.

I don't have enough fingers and toes to count the number of times that I died due to exposure as a fresh spawn, back then. Brrr!

TL/DR: Chill and document the crazy shit that you see.

Why are you answering to me?   I know all that and I'm not complaining one bit, I'm saying the exact same thing. English is not my primary language so it's sometimes confusing to use it...

Sorry for the misunderstanding.

No, he is not. Harder zombies? Ok, not a problem, but not when:

- zombies still can beat shit out of you trough walls/doors (I see him outside, yet game think he is inside) and now they can ruin your clothing with one hit (I just said bye bye to my M65 jacket, it was pristine and then zombie hit me once)

- zombies are laggy as hell

- then can hit you without actually facing your or reaching you

There should be more zombies not stronger zombies.

And wtf they can open doors now? They are running like retards, but somehow know how to open doors? What next? Zombie driving V3S or shooting mosin? It's just plain stupid idea.

Another thing: Why they force persistence when it don't work properly? You can find mp5 mags, rak mags, etc. etc. but there is no food. Actually I see same thing I saw after 1st iteration of persistence: a lot of useless crap, books, tents, etc. but no food. Food is as always is stacked in one little shed in the middle of nowhere. I visited mili base just seconds after servers started. There was no gear in long barracks (literally 2 pair of books and 3 bullets 5.45mm). Yet near destroyed ACPs there was like 2 or 3 AKMs. few mags, 2 mountain backpacks, few boxes of bullets and a lot of camo clothes. It was just after servers started! So persistence is as broken as it was months ago.

They should be able to open doors that aren't locked. It is probably a basic place holder of them breaking a barricade/locked door for now. Been at school most of the day about to test the theory to see if locked doors make a difference in the slightest...TBA

They are definitely tougher. They also move more quickly, so they are a much more difficult target to hit. Obviously, desync doesn't help, either.

They make very quiet blood curdling gargling noises when close and they dont know that you are there. They are ok to handle but you need the gear to even think about it. Not sure what happened to all the "supplies" , i guess it has been lost in the coding somehow.

I found they were ok to shoot, head shot and they drop in one, miss and it takes a few to drop them, that's with the only weapon i found in this build , an ak47  .

-snip-

When I first tested experimental 0.55 and encountered my first new infected, I laughed because I could clearly see their animations 2.0 while our character is still with 1.5 animations...

"Hmm, upgrades..."  B)

I totally understood what Eugene meant by having them have an advantage until we get the update movement and animations. Being able to move while performing actions such as eating, gestures, bandaging or various medical treatment, and of course, better melee interactions.

Seeing the zeds stagger when getting hit can hint towards players being able to stagger them before getting hit by directly affecting the area hit by either the melee or bullets. We'll see how it goes.

Yepp, saw a youtube vid about that, like jumping down animations. And while being able to move when doing something is a great improvement, but we are mostly still limited in what we can do. Don't get me wrong, I do not promote including all Streetfighter 2 moves for us to use in melee, but we really need more.

Today has been one of my best days on the game so far. Logged in and went to Myshkino to meet up with my clan. Found several black skull balaclavas in the tents along with a full prisoner uniform. Grabbed a few civi tents once the other guys showed up and headed back to my usual tent location to set up a full time base. Spent the next few hours raiding Lopatino and the surrounding towns for what little bit of food we could.

Before long we had a farm set up with a jerry can of purified water and a fireplace. After setting up about half a dozen tents we realized that the civilian tents would despawn if the doors were closed or opened. Eventually a few more members were stopping by and helping out. It was great at first but I feel like one of the fresh recruits sold us out because someone found the place and killed one of us before logging out. All in all it was a great experience and left me wanting more. This game is definitely headed in the right direction.

What a hard days work led to. :P

Tents still disappear after only a few minutes. Before he went home for the day, Eugen acknowledged that this was a known issue and that he would address it. It looks like that won't happen until tomorrow, though.

Brian was asked that question, but he declined to answer. I guess next Wednesday will be the ultimate test of whether persistence actually works, or not.

Holy crap, there are so many zombies everywhere. Couldn't leave the NWAF because there are so many :P

By saying "there are so many zombies everywhere" ...How many do you mean.. less than 10 in an area ?

Ugh this is just ridiculous

Just hang in there. You're not the only who's having a tough time, but you'll eventually learn to adapt.

Zombies are great now. They don't come running from miles away and you can sneak past them. They are a challenge, especially if you are a newspawn but a geared character should have no problems as long as you use your guns. I also noticed that you can dance with them and avoid getting hit while you smack em.

The loot system isn't as fun. Its probably because persistance is still broken and will work again when it can be shut off. I found decent loot on two servers but the others were basically empty. Strangely, Vybor base was completely barren except for a lootgasm of handcuffs around a bmp and the prison island was totally empty except for a pack of cereal.

But on one server I found this:

Even though it's just temporary for the current "broken" loot, I love it and can't get enough of the current scavenging. It feels more "apocalyptic".  ;)

I love it, too! It's fun to have the difficulty of this game progressively cranked up over time.

Where are the build notes?

This is the closest you're going to get right now. I assure you it's fairly accurate (though it's missing anything that is unannounced/undiscovered).

I LOVED that Experimental. That's probably what cemented my attachment to the Experimental branch, actually. I remember being so happy that I had to take shelter in a barn with a few friends around a camp fire. It was such a, "This is DayZ" moment.

Had a good time playing 0.55 on Stable tonight! I managed to group together a whopping 13 zombies at one time in Elektro and I imagine grouping more wouldn't have been terribly difficult. They run out of steam after a short while and then you actually have to slow down and let them catch up unless you want to lose them.

I haven't. Is it actually in? I was thinking that was just a leak.

It's in the change log that you just provided the link to. I haven't found it, but if anyone knows where it is, I figured it'd be you.

The change log has a hot link, to it, but there is no pic ... just a blank page.

- A  whining about those who are about to whine or

- B  a selfproclamation as a DayZ god basically declaring anyone who will complain about anything a f****** noob, because everything is perfect as it is or..

I'm sorry if I offended anyone. What I meant is that I 'whined' myself too, in the Experimental discussion, and was anticipating the entertainment of watching it on a bigger scale, because the current build didn't feel Stable enough to me.

..what about the char? I don't think I ever read about any planned changes there. I don't know what's planned, so I cannot judge the new zeds melee as actually being better or worse in the long run.

Check out the Standup Notes in the Weekly Status Reports on the Dev Hub and the recent Quarterly Report. Also, this Video on DayZTV has some insight on the new Player Controller. It's best to stay in the loop than be surprised.  :) But yes, most of what you're asking for is coming.

melee is important in DayZ ... again, my opinion.

In mine too, but we have what we have now. :P

When something changes and it's time to test melee again, I'll give it another try. Right now I'm too concerned with my survival. :D

It's under "Leaked Items", which means it is in the gamefiles but not necessarily in the game. Those are things you aren't going to see on the official changelog that gets published :p

The reason for the blank page is vandalism. Someone created the page with random crap all over it, and then someone deleted all of it; no one with the power to delete pages has come along and deleted it and it's not really worthy of having its own page (most buildings don't have one).

Well, even if it's not on the map, yet, I'm still excited to hear that we have some more variety on the way.
