Do Zombies Dream Of A Good Nights Sleep? (Zombie feedback)

Recommended Posts

If you had been hit previously you may have built up "hidden" damage that can't be healed.  In other words there are a finite number of hits you can take regardless of your health staus.  Zambies can apparently also one-hit you.  WOBO explains it well here:

This is the most idiotic mechanic they could have come up with. I don't wanna walk around with my best rifles and gear when I could just randomly die at any time without any notice. When lighting strikes, at least you get heavy rain first. It doesn't even make sense, since we heal and get back to healthy stages entirely. But I learned not to argue with Dayz Devs, because everything will be fine. Just wait, the beta will be megastable, have hundred player servers with thousands of infected and 60 frames. Oh and also Santa really exists (he's at the bottom of the factory chimneys)!

Early in the .55 I got knocked out and one shot killed on many occasion by Zs, but I noticed that I wasn't wearing any form of head protectionat that time. It may not be linked but ever since I started wearing head protection like hard hat, skatter/bike helmet or any others that prevent getting knocked out, I havent been one shotted by a Z.

Like in real life a melee situation is the last thing you want to get into when fighting some one. This is even more so for infected in game. Rather than trying to engage them in melee combat you want to run as fast as you can from them until they slow down than open fire on them with a gun. Also whatever you do stay crouched down and hidden in cities. Your less liable to draw the attention of the infected if you do.

Right now no matter how we see things doesn't matter.

It WILL change. We're in alpha stage. Nothing's final right now.

Yes, you can die even if healthy with one hit, from anything really.

Once we hit beta, there will be some polishing and re-balancing. Once the game is finished, then we'll know how DayZ works. Right now, it's just guesses, trial and error, and temporary.

P.S.: The WOBO community and Aggathor are doing a great job testing things out so we can learn how to deal with the current version of the game, and at every stage of the game. (almost) Unless the devs says "this" or "that" is official, then everything is purely speculations until confirmed via tests. And is bound to change anyway...

From all the zombie movies I've watched, if your not too important to the movie, you can be killed in 1 hit. If your a main character, then you have a hidden bite that turns you into a zombie without anyone knowing and they find out when the hot girl gets into the truck alone with you and say's "I think we are finally safe".  %^}

Well, they're a different kind of broken now at least and it is a slight improvement. At least now, I can actually wander around without being instantly spotted from 300m away by a random zombie. However, now the fights themselves are ridiculous. A female office zombie I managed to side-step and dodge pretty well, taking only 20% damage from her attacks. Everyone else just tears me a new one.

Today i got 1-shotted by a zombie with Lightgreen energized/hydrated and "healthy" status. Zombie rushed me and smacked me once and i got the horrible "You are dead"-screen.

I guess they can do fracture damage too. So this is normal and not a bug.

It's hit or miss. You can fist fight them and get hit a dozen times and barely be bleeding - or you can get the 1 unlucky shot and it's lights out.

This is what's referred to as "spinal condition" by the community. You know how your arms and legs have a value for how well your bones are doing (and how much more it takes for them to snap)? Apparently there's one for the body or the head too. So eventually you can die from really random source of damage, especially if you had a few close calls earlier.

The devs do not admit this thing exists, which leads me to believe it is a bug, but they probably have no idea where to look for it.

Wobo did a video about it back in the day.

I thought i saw that hicks said it was some old code that was still in the game that they still need to look at getting rid of?

Maybe, I don't really follow what Hicks says these days.

I happened to read it, but was not happy with the "meh we'll get to it eventually" type vibe.

http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/224169-reason-of-1-hit-by-a-zombie-and-dead/#entry2253638

This seems to be a subject built largely on speculation, but it does seem that the more you have taken damage, the higher the chance of insta-death.

That link contains the only official acknowledgement of it that I have seen, and I don't know it is even an acknowledgement.  On the one hand he writes it off as a quirk of the scripting language and finite state machines used in the game, and then he says WIP to throw everbody off.  New information would be appreciated by all.

The one thing that I do know, is that the zeds hit you more often now, and that each hit may have a chance to be the one that kills you.

Also, beware the slower moving zombies, the leaning stagger seems to mean that they will likely hit you VERY hard.

Yeah, that shit has been around forever. I remember back when you could still crawl under the original hangars at NEAF I managed to kill a guy that was trying to shoot me through the floor of the hangar.

Anyway, I got him, and I crawled under to loot him. As I was laying there a zombie ran under as well and killed me in one shot. This was before the "healthy" status was implemented, but I was definitely 100% healthy as the guy didn't even manage to land a shot.

Long story short, it's been around for at least a year now.

There is a small probability that a single swing from a zombie will kill you in one shot.

Think of it as the one punch that broke your neck.  Or the one that concussed you to the point of death.  Or the great zombie swing that separated your brain from your brainstem when your head whipped around fast enough that your cracked C1 or C2  vertebrae sliced your spinal cord, resulting in you voiding your bowels, wetting your shorts, then dropping to the ground to quietly experience your last few seconds of life with no air coming in and your vision quickly fading while offending zombie continues to pummel your limp corpse.

Or....you could be more lucky and you just catch the zombie roundhouse on the chin, recover and down the M'Fo!   <_<

Before I start I'd like to say I love the direction the new zeds are taking.

They are much more of an issue than they used to be as you can just 1 hit kill them with an axe any more so as we we all know you have to sneak around town to avoid making them angry............ or do you?

I have been experimenting with them and have come to the conclusion that the best way to deal with them is to aggro ALL the Zeds in a given area round them up and put them somewhere, and here in lies my problem... I have noticed that when a Zed runs at you you can jog in front of it and it wont hit you after a minute they slow down to walking pace this makes it very easy to round up a whole town full of them then lock them in a building thus making them almost irrelevant again. Now I understand if your fully geared around NWAF this style of play will get you killed by another player as it involves a lot of jogging around in the open but as a freshie on the coast it makes it very easy to get around them.

I know they are not finished and the Devs still have a load of work to do on them and I hope that our stamina will be matched to theirs over time, but the fact they cant seem to hit you if your jogging in front them worries me a bit, they should be able to jump on your back or pull you over or something like that or at least be able to hit you?

I feel Zeds are still too easy and take way to long to aggro on you (the devs could half the shaking head animation time)

Anyone else noticed this about the Zeds... try it. Aggro one and just jog away and look behind you.. they swing to hit but miss every time. I literally filled the fire station in Elektro with them the other day and sustained no damage... this should not be possible or at least it should be very hard!

(not having a dig at Alpha... just giving my zombie feedback sorry if its in the wrong place)

Thus the gaming term "kiting". Kiting Zeds into a big building and shutting the door is a nice way to deal with them while leaving a nice present for the next unsuspecting victim who enters.

Woah slow down there cowboy, zeds jumping on your back? The day that gets implemented is probably never with the pace of development. Hoping they focus on core game issues, like sound desync (hearing people eat, reload etc) when no one is near you. Very annoying and been an issue since day 1 lol.

A cool idea indeed but let's keep the ideas simple ;) for now.

Yeah I'm not saying implement some ninja zombie moves before all the other core issues get fixed.. But you shouldn't be able to round them up so easily?

I think it's your own run speed that's needing changed, if you think how fast you sprint with a gun in your hand, it's the same speed as without a gun at all. Hopefully once stamina is implemented so you can't constantly full sprint everywhere, you can only outrun them for so long :P
