Arma3 Third person fix mod...thoughts?

Recommended Posts

After all the bickering and complaining about 3pp players using the unrealistic camera option to gain an unfair advantage and peek over and around cover I have finally found the perfect solution that will keep both sides happy and requires very little work from the devs.

The solution is to make the option to switch between 3pp and 1pp a menu option.

Simply forcing people to go into their options menu and go through a few screens in order to switch their perspective would go a long way to stopping people from sitting on a rooftops just waiting for people while in complete safety.

They'll stay in 3rd person though if it comes to it.

Yeah. Turns out hipfiring with the little white dot is more accurate than the actual gun sights  :P

No solution, play hardcore.

Be honest you know there is going to be some type of solution eventually.

Rocket discussed locking the camera or changing the 3pp cameras position.

Now is the time to brain storm potential ideas to fix this problem.

I don't understand why they don't just remove it.

If you want to "look at your character for a screenshot" (which really means peeking around/over corners/ledges), too bad. I hear Skyrim is a pretty game.

fix this problem.

You act like 3rd person is a problem. You should just stick to hardcore, because they have clearly already found a solution to your "problem", and that is for you to play 1st person only with other 1st person only players.

3pp is not the problem.

The problem is the way it can be used to exploit alot of the games failures.

You can use it to easily see through buildings, see over cover and around cover.

The effect it has on pvp is destructive.

Or, you could play hardcore. lol

And I'm pretty sure rocket tweeted about this not to long ago....

Are you even reading what you are typing? Play hardcore.

The solution is this; The camera is locked in the position behind you. You can not look around with ALT with 3PP enabled. You must turn your body to adjust the camera.

That would be ignoring the problem completely.

The problem has to be addressed eventually.

It's already a server option, what's the issue?

Don't like 3pp play 1st person.  Want a third option?  Make a third server option.  Why change what lots of people like, just because some people don't?

More options the better, it doesn't have to be an either or debate.

All of these suggestions are stupid beyond belief.

Rocket already tweeted that one of his devs found a fix for this bug.  This is almost as stupid as the "remove night time" thread.  If you don't like 3PP, THEN PLAY HARDCORE.

Honestly I find it offensive that people think I should compromise the way I like to play just because they don't.  Quite frankly, your problem with 3pp is your own, not mine.  So quit trying to change the way I like to play this game, the way it's been since I started playing.  I adapted (and so have TONS OF PEOPLE), if you can't that sucks.  It is not my problem though, so why should I "compromise."

3PP is a problem as it fragments the community. We should all be playing the same game together. Why they added 3PP to ARMA is beyond me. I honestly have no fucking idea. It's literally the dumbest shit they could've done as it trivializes 99% of the game and makes playing online even funnier.

The only reason people want to play with 3PP enabled is because they enjoy the feeling of safety it provides. You guys want to be able to peek around corners and over ledges. Just admit it. If you claim it's because you want to stare at your character while you play, then...

I don't understand why they don't just remove it.

The bug was for people going into walls.

You will still be able to enter a building and see through walls and buildings .

All aided by 3pp.

If Abe Lincoln had taken the "look the other way approach", slavery never would have been ablolished in America and the union would have split.

"But we like exploiting our free labor!"

Just because you like it, doesn't make it right.

Ignoring the crutches and exploits that 3pp have and how they negatively affect gameplay is the equivalent of having cancer but ignoring it.

"Go play hardcore" is a cop-out.

Maybe some people prefer the third-person view but don't think peering over and around walls is a very good feature to have. Maybe they would like to brainstorm how to improve the quality and fairness of the gameplay for all the third-person players as well.

Shutting down any discussion of improvements or changes to the third-person side of the game with cries of "go play hardcore" is not constructive.

Pretty much.

There is a very obvious problem here and this problem is very destructive to not only fair play but the pvp in the game.

The simplest solution of course would be to outright remove 3pp across all servers and not even have it as an option.

However this is not good as there will be a segment of the community that is alienated and not only that we would be depriving motion sick people a means to enjoy the game without hurling chunks all over their monitor.

This is why we the community should try to find a solution that keeps 3pp as an option without causing as much damage to gameplay like the current 3pp model does.

I'm for an over-the shoulder kind of feel, but something that doesn't give you ESP.

Yes a smart camera might be the best solution although it might be a little harder to program compared .

A camera that when it detects a wall or geometry in front of you gets close in and lowers so you cannot see over cover.

When you go prone it positions itself behind your feet and when you go crouch it focuses near the small of your back.

One other solution that I have seen some servers use in the past is to remove 3pp when you crouch or go prone.

So do a third server option.  All these threads are always about replacing 3rd person as it stands.  Make an alternative, not a replacement.

3PP is not "broken" it is not "cancer" it is not an "exploit" any of the myriad of stupid shit people say it is.  It's a game mode, one that has been part of DayZ from the start and one that a lot of people have learned to enjoy.  Just because some people don't like it doesn't mean it's broken.

I'm all for alternatives and options, but the way people go about making these threads are not about discussion they are about dick measuring bullshit as an excuse to have a valid playstyle changed.

I mean look at this BULLSHIT.  Destructive?  should be completely removed?  causes damage to gameplay?

This isn't a proposed discussion, this is some one who doesn't like a game type saying it should be gone for totally subjective reasons.
