Gamescom - August 2013 - Interviews/Gameplay

Recommended Posts

Rocket I would prefer the Alpha isnt released as soon as the Bubble thingy is aok, would like the Zombie AI , attack animations and sounds done.

OH HELL NO.

Don't listen to him Rocket. I love your PR style and everything. People bitching is just like how the CS community reacts to every single major iteration since CS 1.0. All the hostility comes out of love for the game. They care about it and and build expectations out of sheer anticipation of the potential awesomeness. Disappointment is inevitable. Fuck even RL is disappointing a lot of the time. So if people are bitching before they've even played the game, It's a good sign.

I just want to play. I really do not mind experiencing copious bugs. If I did, I would not have continued playing DayZ or ArmA3. Just let me run around in Chernarous trying on clothes and shit.

The thing about DayZ is the people making their own stories, despite all the bugs. Issues get resolved over time. Meanwhile, I will play.

So release the standalone ASAP when the network bubble is functional. If it doesn't meet our standards, we'll read all the change logs and test all the updates.

I think you understand that you have something called 'brand loyalty'. The game has had an effect on people's lives and that will never change. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

What about adding fade into quickbar if u dont switch items/weapons? Has there been any discussions about it?

Yep. Already does that.

Yep. Already does that.

Will we be able to manually set opacity of the HUD?

And will the inventory screen be transparent? I kinda like the idea that you can't see around you when you are digging through the backpack...

Check the Arma 3 stuff at

and see how big Chernarus is. Chernarus is really 180km² and not 225km²? And Rocket is saying that Chernarus+ will be 260km² so is it expansion from 180km² or from 225km² -> 260km²?

I was a bit shocked when I noticed that because 45km² (more than two Stratis) is pretty big difference.

I'm fairly sure the 225km² includes the water, so the quoted 260km² will be an effective land expansion of 35km².

No *sigh*, most of them don't know what they're talking about, they have no idea what pre-alpha means, they complain about the zombies even though the zombies will probably be majorly reworked, some even blame Matt for being a terrible developer because of how he plays in the playthrough when in-fact he's a production-assistant, not strictly a dev and the list goes on and on...

I concur sir, I gave up reading comments on the net years ago, because the ignorance and down right stupidity of people in this world, would make my blood boil and take years off my life....Then there is the "troll" which came up from under the bridge and reared its toothless ugly head ALL over the net...FUck it all I say, time to be that Hermit on the hill with "fast broadband", the standalone when it comes out, a couple dark haired russian pole dancers that also are master Dayz players and all the cold guinness and hot Thai cococnut chicken soup I can eat !! :)

Hmm.. Dean did not claim that there is a land expansion when the interviewer asked that question. He said new towns and such areas as playable places are added. Maybe the "225" km does not include water *shrugs*

This has one source, pure and simple:

Simulation for damage has been moved to the server in its entirety. In SP, the DayZ mission *chugs* badly. I asked the test team just before and they have reported them being smooth to.

Basically, it makes the game run at similar to as it does in the editor.

Wich means a big FPS Boost?

The whole playable map to is 255km2 INCLUDING water.

If you're interested, I've written a very detailed report from the extensive talks on DayZ I've had with both Ivan and Matt covering many aspects of the game, including much new information :) Since it was too large for a post here, there's the thread.

Sure they can sell. But that is not why we are here, is it?

To watch Rocket sell a game?

Let's let the guy make a game, whichever way he likes. If it turns out good, well play it!

Sounds like a plan?

Sure they can ..they are that good and professionell that they can even sell the same shitty games every year adding just a few minor features and also a few new bugs and their marketing strategeies are that clever that people even buy DLC's  for games that haven't been released....

Here's a timely and relevant quote from Reddit posted today.

The OP has talked to Ivan about the map and it's expansion.

Since the environment plays a key role in the immersion factor of DayZ and thanks to the nature of Arma (pun intended), it is a very important aspect of the game.

For that topic I individually sat down with Ivan, who is together with SenChi, working on the new Chernarus which is going to be expanded with new terrain. Ivan told me it will be ~ 40km² in the north and ~25km² in the west. Though this new terrain won’t only consist of forests and fields but actually include whole new cities, small towns, farmland, mountain villages and other new locations to explore which are authentic to the real location Chernarus is based on. These extensions will bring back the element of exploring, even to the most seasoned players.

Yeh I saw that today. I just stated that from the point of the confusion I found it weird that Rocket did not seem to be wiling to give exact answers on the subject in the interview. After seeing that, I've cleared up the question marks I've come up with the confusion. I guess, it is just due to the map not being his main area though.

Hello there

dont forget that even if the devs added no more explorable areas that the map is still utterly changed with the advent of enterable buildings.

I adds a whole new dimension to the game as well as a heap of square footage.

I think worrying about the exact ft sq of Chernarus plus is a bit of a fools errand. The whole way the SA will be played will be very different to the mod.

Yes, Chernarus Plus is not a large as Altis, but will be plenty big enough for most of our needs. We are familiar with the maps general layout, but enough will be added to make  it a very new and interesting experience.

Yeah, I've found the best source of info for the map has always come directly from interviews with Ivan, which makes sense as it's his baby after all, so it was good to read that piece.

Infact the whole article from Purepassion was a great read with some bits of new info that I hadn't heard before so I recommend every gives it a read (link in my above post)

I'm not sure anyones worrying about it Orlok, just trying to nail down facts is all.

But whatever, I am so impressed with the look of the landscape now, it looks so much more authentic and lived in, I really can't wait to explore it properly, Ivan and SenChi have done a fantastic job on it.

Hello there

Sorry If I came over a bit off, its just my annoying posting style.

I just wanted to reassure folk that although the map is still called Chernarus that the current changes that its undergoing are transforming it into something completely different.

The Original Chernarus feels very ordinary once one has tried  the new.

The details in the map are just amazing. It would be a shame to consider the old and new maps just looking at their sizes.. It would indeed be an amazing and different experience for all!
