wasabi867 4 Posted August 3, 2013 (edited) MOM!!!! Where da hordes of scary zeds?? seems to me like zombie action has suddenly become secondary to PvP group action... I don't wanna play no more. I'm going home. :(I just hope its not getting as worse with the pvp as with shitfestation: pvp stories... The main focus(in my opinion) should be on realism and survival and the biggest threat should absolutely be hordes of zombies. dallas 5195 Posted August 3, 2013 I'm not playing DayZ for the pvp, but Rocket will probably never be able to provide game mechanics so advanced, they'll never become predictable at some point. It's not that we're geniuses that can figure advanced mechanics out in no time, but gamers are quick to find the path of least resistance, if a drop of water or a plant can grow it's way through the sidewalk, so can we. Other players and the threat of pvp will keep everyone on their toes, even after you've gotten somewhat used to the zombies.
Syrian 1 Posted August 3, 2013 (edited) I know what you're saying, but remember you have only a few walk cycles, you have to mocap it, and you have to be able to clean it up. If you twist your body like that (and I know, because I tried this several times during mocap) you end up off balance and falling over. Running is an extremely complex movement, and performing some kind of attack while sprinting is very hard. I am largely happy with the type of attack so far, some variation is to be excepted when we get time.Focus for zombie AI will not be their attack animations, it will be having them not stop to change direction, and doing something about them running fast... stop... run fast. The attacks will receive some tweaks, but you idea's are ones I've tried again and again without much luck. The other zombie AI problems I feel are more pressing. Yeah I can imagine how hard it would be to get perfect animations. You're right in that you guys should be focusing more on their glitchiness rather than their animations, as they can come later. I was just thinking, isn't there a way you could kind of "split" animations into two different parts on a model? For example, you do a separate running animation for the zombie model, assign this animation to their legs or whatever, and then do a separate animation for their upper body? This way it would be easier to achieve a high intensity running swing animation. When you're doing the swing animation, you can then focus on your swing rather than making the entire animation look good. Sorry if that sounds stupid lol, just thought that would be another way of doing things if it's even possible. Edited August 3, 2013 by Syrian

Because your body has momentum overall - that is affected by positions of your arms and what they are doing. Try waving your arms about when you run - your whole body and legs will move around. If you animate by that (which is a fuckload easier than what we do now), the result looks terrible as the legs are completely independent of the body, with no momentum effects. It stands out to the eye very easily.

And that list contains only one disease, there are 8 planned.Yea, but these secondary challenges will never be as scary as having to run and hide from zombies that are stalking youwith the tenacity of my x girlfriend, all wanting a piece of tail. With my x, a head shot is about the only thing that'll keep her down for the count. Otherwise, you just knock her off her feet, and she'll be back at your ass again. Dayz should model after this. Another solution would be to have a super-heavyweight Alpha zombie. Kinda like that 'butter's girl' who hangs out with my X.. Just looking back at the video and man, from 0:29 to 1:04 (where they're slowly walking up to the village) I really love the atmosphere. The new weather system with the dark clouds really does make a huge difference. It seems really depressing, which is how it should be when you're in a zombie apocalypse. I hope you guys focus on the atmosphere and overall "feel" of the game in the coming months. Can't wait!
wasabi867 4 Posted August 3, 2013 I loved the part when he stood in the field and fired his gun from the hip and the way the zombies dropped.. Looked like a movie. Really looking forward to the release man! Once again, dont rush it. Im having a blast with arma 3 dayz atm, so im good :D The engine really took a big step forward. InsomniBlue 2 Posted August 3, 2013 Looks great. Question if I may, will you be getting more resources down the road in terms of people on the project? I know that currently your team is fairly small, and well that's a bit concerning (although i'm sure there is a good reason for that).

032125 (DayZ) 91 Posted August 3, 2013 Seeing you get knocked on your ass and then having to get up to shoot makes it clear that some sort of supine shooting needs to be incorporated. Get knocked down, have the option to shoot from the supine position to clear the threat, then hit the stand button to stand. Sometimes it is neither practical nor advantageous to stand up before engaging.
Gua 16 Posted August 3, 2013 The fps while you are looking at the village seem quite low, even though from what i understand you own a i5 and a 570 so my question is, are the Frames going to get better or will you still need a i7 and a 300 dollar GPU to run this game properly. I got a FX-8350 and a 7870, 8 gigs of ram.. And i cant run arma 2 dayz properly. This is the main reason i stopped playing it after the CPU upgrade, i simply didnt see any improvements. I know that this topic gets shoved to the sideline by many developers all the time, and is not being fixed with future patches and gets abandoned in the end. This is why im asking and i dont mean it offensive in any way. WasabiArma 2 hates AMD. I had this processor with a nice overclock and GTX 680, and my fps was petty shity. My friend got latest AMD processor with overclock, fps was also not that great. After switching my processor to i7 my fps doubled. Even my work PC with overclocked Intel® Core™2 Quad Processor Q9550 gives me more fps then FX-8350.

Just to make everyone else who is a AMD fan like I, the next gen is being built on AMD multi-core multi-threading architecture. Buying an 8350 now may have lower FPS for current games, but next gen will make up for that. *edit* As a side not, I won't be seeing DayZ SA till Christmas, and probably really dive into in the summer of 2014. Just release the game in a year Rocket. You'll get the fans regardless. Then we'll get The Division and I'll most likely never look back....
