Please don't get rid of third person, as well as being quite useful it also gets rid of nausea from screen bobbing, Plus i prefer the over the shoulder look.

you can turn down the screen bob in the options.

But as long as there's still 1st Person view I don't care. For me the advantages in aiming in 1st person make up totally for the around the corner look shit in 3rd person. Plus I get sick of playing 3rd Person.

I'm really looking forward to the Stand Alone. It's pretty awesome that we're going to have to find batteries for NVG's & Rangefinders etc.

Hopefully, the game will release asap.

This is something that I never could imagine to hear after so many complains that they get motion sickness in 1st person only :D

Dunno why... it just feels strange for me I think. For some reason I've got no problems with it in Saints Row III or SO: The Line...

Making assumptions on SA population is nothing but speculation

we can't relate the mod experience as evidence to claim 150 wont work for SA

we do not fully understand the changes that have been made

the map size, the lack of loot from more demand, more separated loot opportunity way more loot variety. will make the socio-economics change dramatically, you cannot assume people will even remotely behave the same

when the change in incentives changes so hugely.

the game may feel the same, but people will react differently. population will be a fascinating contributor to the way rocket envisions this game works so the number is fascinating indeed.

Wow... I would have considered the issue of rendering vegetation, or at least occluding things (players, etc.) hidden in vegetation at long distances to be a very "major" issue, one that likely does in fact require "sweeping, architectural changes" to correct. This one actually breaks immersion time and again.

And DayZ isn't the only game that does need this change. Arma 3 needs it even more and there have been couple nice examples in Bohemia forums how it could be done but I haven't seen devs to response on those. I really hope they can solve the camouflage in distance in Arma 3 so they can port it in DayZ or other way around.

You have it all wrong. The risk that you lose everything is the reason why permadeath is so compelling. The fact you feel like quitting is a good thing, its an emotional reaction to the loss you felt when you lost your character.

I don't think gaming has "evolved" beyond permadeath, I think people have devolved to demanding packaged experiences/movies/books/video-games/lives that are controlled and expected. If I could make the game give players an electric shock, or slap them, I would.

Look at your real life: You are going to die. Does that make all your accomplishments worthless? Is your life a shitty drawn-out version of counterstrike? Or does the fact that you will die, eventually, not give a hell of a lot of meaning to the life you live? Does the fact that when you die, it's OVER - does that not make your heart skip a beat when you take that corner on the motorway a little too fast?

That crushing despair you feel when you die in DayZ - that's intended. It's an attempt in a video game to make you feel something real, not excitement covered in cotton-wool.

This isn't a Q&A (apologize if its the wrong section for this). I wanted to just quickly point out what rocket recently said on reddit. Everyone has a personal opinion with the [sA], the way Rocket handled the community and the end of last year, the lack of updates (albeit now we are getting more :) ) and so on.

I obviously can tell that the passion is still there with him on this project. With the stress of meeting a deadline/WarZ fiasco I am glad Rocket is back to himself. He continues to listen to the community, but a the end of the day what I take away is Rocket's going to make the game his way. The way he wants, the game he would want to play... It's refreshing to see this and the fact that he makes no apologizes and stands up to what he wants.

I have to admit I'm not too keen on learning everything again as honestly I'm still learning the DayZ Mod but if the standalone will be better then the mod (judging by the time it's taking to release it will be) I'm willing to learn anything again! :)

Hope the optimization is massively improved, don't really want to splash out a lot of money just to play this game :)

Also it would help if someone could answer me this:

this is my current setup -

CPU: AMD phenom triple-core 8250 (Toliman)

GPU: ATI Radeon HD 3870 x2 (Upgrading to the HD 7770)

Ram: 4.1gb DDR2

what do i need to get a stable rate of 60 fps in towns on mid/high settings

would it be best to upgrade the CPU to AMD Phenom ii x6 and GPU to HD 7770? or would i just be wasting my money?

The Arma engine is not really made for 60 fps. everything over 30 is considered good performance in dayZ

Standalone will be optimized, but with increasing content, the expected performance is going to be about the same as dayz, but feeling more fluent.

But there's a tutorial by JackFrags on Youtube, how to build your own steambox where he explains and recommends the individual components. You might watch that for some inspiration. He said graphics are the most important thing, he uses: 1GB XFX Radeon HD 7770 (but only uses dualcore cpu)

dayZ mod was released April 2012

autumn 2012 standalone plans came up

end of 2012, release is pushed back, to rewrite engine, before releasing it.

April 2013 - standalone should release, or we will probably have to wait till june until dean finishes his.. lets call it "researchtrip for high altitude snow maps".

So if everything goes well, there has been 1 year between Mod and Standalone. They basically rewrote the engine, the map and the UI in under 6 month having two developers imprisoned in greece for most of the time.

Compare that to any Blizzard-game released in the last 10 years... (more than 2 years between starcraft2-terran campaign and starcraft2-zerg campaign... is it even out yet?)

It just feels that long, because you are waiting so hard.

It's like when it's the day before christmas and you find out you will get a pet zombie. you just can't wait to unwrap him and feed him your sistes guineapig. Or insert whatever you would want to get the picture ;-)

150 players in a map... that's gonna be a little bit claustrophobic, as I don't really know if a lot of players are going to stay near the big cities... But I would like to see how that works, even though player encounters will turn a lot more regular. But what is really making me look forward to the standalone is the fact that we will now have to find batteries (which makes a lot more sense than having infinite everything), the new guns, zombies mechanics, and as I am a lone-wolf most of the time, the idea of new hunting objects, and wild animals sounds thrilling :)

Bows won't be in. He mentioned it in Shannon's stream. Too much work involved.

Like it or not, this reddit is part of the development. If you can't handle that, and you can't handle knowing what is going on, being part of the excitement AND the disappointments - then unsub! Nobody is forcing you to read my updates, and quite frankly - I don't feel like I owe you a god damn thing because you have paid me not a single penny.

If you actually listen to the stream he sounds a lot more pessimistic than the transcription.
