Whats the point of this post even? First-person-only is available for quite a time now. Everyone can choose the type he prefers. Not choosing the one you personally prefer is nothing but your own mistake...

Having a problem with seeing players at a distance!
liquidmind replied to cazador's topic in General Discussion
As it seems, you encountered the "feature" that players in a distance are only rendered partially. Usually their legs disappear. But that's a difficult setting to make. Everyone having a supercomputer wants to have perfect vision for kilometers. The Average gamer couldn't show more than a few hundred due to their hardware-limitations. having a good computer already gives advantages without end, so I don't have any problem with no one being able to see anyone outside their network-bubble at all. Making a game where only those who have the latest hardware have a chance to win is probably the most expensive version of pay-to-win. And I think we all agree that that's unwanted. The big problem will be finding a setting that works for lower end computers but doesn't cripple those with good ones. Setting it all up so that only the best hardware can play it, would tell the majority of the people who bought it, that they made a huge mistake thinking they could ever play it. -
Personally, I believe there already is a roadmap. They just don't release it because the community has proven to be incapable of seeing dates presented to them not as being carved in stone. I would love to see the roadmap, but I'd hate to see the reaction of the community as soon as the first deadline presented in it is passed. There have been too many "omg, evil devs wanna steal our moneyz"-threads already... As long as there is no intelligence-test for people receiving the information, I'd prefer the devs kept it to themselves and kept going at a steady pace, than having to argue with idiots about why a roadmap is not a legally binding contract to release on exactly the day you hoped you could...

Guns can already be painted. If they came in random colors with a chance of addons already on them, It would work out I think. Why shouldn#t there be a small chance of finding a pink or golden rifle? Different textures seem to make sense as they are already in, in the form of painting guns.

At the moment, there is nothing you can really do... In a real life scenario, you'd get some supplies, wait 3 weeks and when all the trigger-happy people killed each other off, you have a chance of survival. As they constantly respawn in dayZ, they won't die out, so it is unlikely that any sane type of gameplay will come up in the future. DayZ became popular as a game for minorities, then the masses discovered it and they are just to stupid to see the game for what it was supposed to be. But you have probably figured that out, based on the comments made in this thread and it should give you an indication of what rocket meant saying "it is not the perfect multiplayer game, due to mistakes made in the beginning"...

I understand why people want to play 1st person only and I get why people want to be able to go to 3rd person. What I don't get is why some people who claim to play first person, because there are fewer morons playing it, want every moron playing 3rd person to switch to first person. If the community in 1st person is so much better and all the douches stay away, isn't that exactly what you want? Just wondering.. It seems like cutting your own flesh, to want people you don't like on your servers...

What I expected and what actually happened (...)

It's kinda sad. Last time I've seen innovation in bandits was right in the beginning of the mod. Except for handcuffs and poisoning people, which were introduced later, there is no real innovation going on. Lets hope people find their creativity soon.. or at least those without creativity get bored with the game and move on to something else. -
One one hand, there are servers out there, which have currently troubles with their connection to the main hive. Dean posted a list of those servers. Joining them Could result in loss of your character due to a bug. It is possible that some of those servers you mentioned added that to their description to warn you in advance. On the other hand, there are privately run servers out there, where the owners want to use their server to gear up and then go to other servers. They are not really legal and I am sure they are going to do something about that soon. It's just a dickish move, to buy a server, level up in private and then go and kill others. That's not what the game is about.

Third person view removal from SA discussion
liquidmind replied to lev's topic in General Discussion
I think we have the opportunity here, to lay the groundwork for future differentiation of the game. I do not think we should make the mistake, to fall back to the old difficulty-settings. they just give the impression, that there is only one goal to achieve and that there are several difficulty-levels you could attempt to do so. I do not think this fits dayZ very well. As a replacement, I suggest to "theme" a server, regarding to what players on the server try to achieve, having the settings that make sense for that. Categories as such could include: "High PVP", which is first person only, you expect to kill players and them to kill you. difficult setting. "Low PVP", which has both views, but community-encouraged no-KOS (you have to make contact before killing) "Adventure", both views, no KOS, but a focus on teaming up and doing things together, even though pvp is allowed. "RPG", maybe having to give your story before joining, you cannot switch servers and are blocked for a while after you die. There could be much more styles added later, when more features are added, but the vast advantage against difficulty-settings would be, that it would allow for much more than just to select for difficulty and reflect the situation of the players a lot better and intuitively. -
Some people seem to misunderstand "sandbox" with the squared sand-pit they built castles in, just a few years ago... Sandbox is about changing game-styles, not finding one, sticking to it and pretending that that's all there is. That's just narrow-minded.

yes. it is the X in the server-list. But you can click on properties of dayZ in steam and enable the "experimental build" if you want to play the most recent (non-stable) version. You are limited in available servers but so far they updated the stable-build only a few hours later. So it does not really matter.

Security Vulnerabilities fixed by Patch #2 and Character wipe
liquidmind replied to rocket's topic in News & Announcements
Maybe him being a troll is so damn obvious, that one has to ask if someone making it that obvious can really be one... I mean... using a user-name that refers to rockets username, just to complain, suggests that he is one of the kids who does not get enough allowance to buy it on their own and hate having to wait for christmas. Damn.. I just realized that I should enjoy dayz before christmas.. it's going to be hell after that. -
DayZ is Dead in all its forms(We can do something about this)
liquidmind replied to Abolition's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
it is still fascinating for me, how people can claim that they only kill because that' what other people would do to them. On one hand, they defend themselves against it being immoral, without anyone ever having challenged that, showing that they obviously are aware of the fact that it is not the right thing to do, but then steal themselves away from having to deal with the problem by giving shallow excuses, pretending that they just don't want to be the victim, so they take action. In the end, it's being afraid of taking the risk and lying to themselves about the reasons for their actions. I am only saying "they" because I don't like to point out names but to return the walking dead reference: Almost everyone who was out just for killing is dead by now. Those who worked together in groups and only killed when absolutely necessary are still alive. If you got it differently, you might have watched a different show. People who only looked out for themselves got killed. People who cared for others, got saved. Only people who are weak, try to act strong. -
Questions about renting Day Z serverz
liquidmind replied to VibroKnife's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
I'd recommend that you don't try to make your own server, but just rent a dedicated one. You should be able to get a server for a few bucks each and you will definitely have less troubles starting everything up. You just shoudn't rent the cheapest out there. Some hosters use slow disks and CPUs and you won't have a lot of fun there. Others cost the same. They should also be relatively close to you so you have a low ping. -
your near death moments
liquidmind replied to shadowolf (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
We met a group of friendly survivors in Stary (yeah I know, some are already screaming "liar" at that point"), when a guy jumped us and killed a few of us before we could even react. Like in most friendly encounters when shots are fired, you just don't know friendly from enemy unless he is shooting at you. I could save myself into a tent, with broken bones, stop my bleeding and was left with one or two mags in my g17. I had it aimed at the entrance of the tent, head-height, just in case the guy comes in to shoot me. What he did. I emptied my mag into his chest and I suppose I must have hit him hard because he ran off and I never saw him again. I waited for a while, looted what I could get of my friends body, crawled to the supermarket and had some food until my friend arrived back at stary, bloodbag'd and morphine'd me and we got away.
