DayZ Standalone Discussion

Recommended Posts

Well they are making as much of the game server side as they can. This is good for you as a player because it means hacking will be much harder to pull off. Also it means lag handling will be much more uniform across EVERYONE in the server, which is a very good thing.

ill take everything with a grain of salt until the game is installed on my harddrive and im playing it myself. although i believe Dean learned a valuable lesson with missed launch dates , im extremely skeptical given everything thats happened since then

The only valuable lesson that Rocket has learned is that a large portion of the gaming community lack the ability to read between the lines and that they take everything and anything as solid facts.

"Extremely skeptical" how so? Is it the fact they've hit a few bumps along the road, which in turn made them reevaluate their approach to releasing a stable, functioning Alpha. I see know reason to have any reservations when it comes to the standalone (as I've not played it yet) or the way we are receiving information.

We're totally screwed if DayZ won't be playable until September even though at gamescom we should see a good version.

I'm actually excited for if it releases after summer. I'm a college student and far too busy during the summer with outdoor activities such as backpacking and riverboarding. If it releases during the fall, I'll already be contained to a room studying and then I'll have the Standalone during my breaks. I won't have to miss any of the early development. Just remember that even if it sucks for some people, it can always be a bonus for others.  :)

I'm a Student and I can only play on weekends.

So it will take a lot longer for the game to burn off on me.

I do suppose that is a more rewarding reason...

No one will be playing DayZ by the time they get around to releasing this game - the entire player base will have played the Mod version to death (no matter how well developed the SA is). I guess I am just fed up of waiting for a game that I am started to get bored of anyway.

That's the only thing I can think of that would make you use an otherwise arbitrary deadline. Are you a student going back to school in the fall?

Everyone knows that most adults don't get large periods of time off to begin with so we don't feel any sympathy towards students who are feeling the time crunch of back-to-school slowly creeping up on them? Right?

This isn't directly at you Barrett but all I can think of when someone wants the game released during the summer is "Tough shit."

Oh no! I have to play the game during evenings or on the weekend! FML!

I remember them carefree summers, twelve weeks of no responsibility whatsoever just the wind in my hair and a gleam in my eyes.

All I know is i'll be playing the SA, so that kind of makes you point about "No one will be playing" invalid. I fail to see the logic behind your post?

It's the kind of post someone makes believing they have leverage over a developer and they can use said leverage to expedite the development time.

It wasn't meant literally - my point is this - A LOT of players have stopped playing for those reasons. And just because u dont agree with something - does not make it 'invalid'.

The fact is the goal posts are always being changed, leaving us continually having no idea whats going on with the development. And in an industry that has so many competitors nearing completing thats a very dangerous thing to be doing.

And despite the tone of my post, I am the last person that does not want DayZ SA to succeed - quite the opposite.

Oh well, you had fun on the mod, that's all you can ask for, but though the map and the premise is the same as the mod, the Stand Alone has a whole new engine, new animations, sounds, items, weapons. So whilst it may look the same it will be totally different.

Duh, the standalone release has nothing to do with university/school/etc. I'm not ranting about the release and you know that very well. Regarding the standalone, I'm going to buy it anyways, is it going to be released on summer, winter or so. From what I've said it's clear that MOST of us are going to be disappointed when another huge delay comes in, no need to neglect that, let's be realists. I find it pointless to argue with a moderator because I'm obviously no one on these forums, I'm just here to work on my English skills (been learning it alone as it's not my maternal language at all but w/e).

I believe you feel unfairly maligned because you caught some of the flak that your post triggered even though it was not intended to be directed at you in particular.

For that I apologize.

I heard the development team is switching DayZ standalone over to the Duke Nukem Forever engine.

So you're voicing your own opinion on a game that hasn't been released yet and in which not one of use has tested except for the lucky few. But you still seem to come across as the voice of many when you choose to say "A lot of players" when actuality its your opinion and not the opinion of the masses.

I've know problem with the goal posts being moved, the further away the better. I'm always up for a great challenge when it's time to start the game.

Hello,

I would just like to know if there will be any zombie children in Dayz stand alone, if not are there any plans to implement them?

Thanks.

They've considered it but there would be censorship issue's in certain countries so it's unlikely to happen.

Yup, it was discussed a while back and i think the end conclusion was that maybe some of the controversy it could cause, or at least censorship laws in some countries would mean it's not worth it.  Things can always change though but i wouldn't hold your breath.
