I'm pretty sure an RPG would be a gamebreaking addition, though I've never played the mod. I thought I had explained all the reasoning behind this choice in my first post. People keep asking about .50 cal. rifles, but it seems like a terrible idea to include any variant of a 5 round detachable magazine rifle chambered in .50 caliber. I suggested a compromise weapon, the PTRD. Apparently this is somehow a WORSE idea than every twelve year old in the server running around with a 5 shot rifle with an effective range much further than we can even spot the other players. I do not want to see any of those .50 cal. guns in this game, as they seem more well suited to GTA/BF/COD games. So I suggested, foolishly, as others had before; that they include a weapon appropriate to the region, that can disable vehicles, with serious drawbacks. I chose an existing and verifiably common weapon, known for it's crudeness and relative ineffectiveness, as well as poor accuracy when used with a scope. But you are correct that the ammunition is more readily available IRL. Did you not read orlok's input to this thread? Such a powerful weapon must come with significant caveats, to balance gameplay. There may be a small niche for such a powerful rifle in the game, but it should not be at all easy to find, load, transport, or use. I'm not sure what people think that this game is, or is going to be, but if they are looking for a huge map to run around and snipe people with top-tier .50 cal. sniper rifles, there are already games that do that quite well. Seems that I have unintentionally stumbled into a corner of DayZ discussion every bit as contentious as 1st vs. 3rd person. I tought it would be kind cool if the holy grail of Dayz weapons was not an RPG, LMG, or drum-fed grenade launcher; but rather a klunky, old-but-not-yet-obsolete anti-tank rifle. I feel that I have stated this coherently and completely, and I'll leave it at that.

Yes, and people take the photos and share them because it's unusual, something to be remarked upon. If they are going to add every more common weapon first, then they can add PTRD, but that won't happen. For the same reason I oppose stuff like the C/96. But adding to this the rifle is just about completely useless in the DayZ survivor situation and there are better alternatives for taking out vehicles, and better alternatives for shooting long range. I'm not a big fan of the anti-material rifles in the first place but PTRS/PTRD even less so. If you meant must be broken down for transport. The other unrealistic parts are "ammunition would have to be re-manufactured from demilitarized rounds found as kitsch throughout the map" when there are thousands of rounds esp. at BRDM crashes and the implication no other anti-material rifles can find their way into the game.

1) What is a plate? 2) What would occupants in the helicopter use the M107 for? M4's and AUGs are standard-issue SF assault rifles, so your point is moot. You still didn't answer my question about hiking/backpacking with heavy weight. In a situation where ounces of weight and the functionality of an object are paramount, what justification do you have for using a mono-purpose Anti-Material Rifle that weighs as much as the rest of your gear put together, over a lighter, more useful .308/7.62mm battle/hunting rifle? Just how many vehicles do you plan to take out? And, most importantly, for a game that focuses on survival, what does adding a mono-purpose anti-vehicle weapon add to the game? Hell, an RPG adds more to the game (anti-vehicle and anti-structural) and I am still leery about adding them! Not touching the fact that RPGs would definitely be more common and more useful than an Anti Material Rifle.

Have you ever been in Russia? Some vehicles there are rather 'older'. Like i've seen a ton of old mercedeses there.

"it only weighs about 30 pounds" "IT ONLY WEIGHS ABOUT 30 POUNDS" IT ONLY WEIGHS ABOUT 30 POUNDS Tell me, have you ever done any hiking or backpacking, especially in mountainous, rough terrain? Because in that sort of terrain, ounces, much less pounds, is important, and "mountainous backpacking" is essentially what we are doing in Day Z. I regularly carry about 20 lbs of equipment (backpack with plenty of water, change of clothing, food, blanket, survival kit, tomahawk, folding saw, etc) on me, regardless of where I am hiking, and I consider that EXTREMELY heavy. And all of that equipment is either necessary or extremely useful (read: I consider necessary) for survival/continued safe travel. Meanwhile, that 30 pound rifle can be used for.......shooting large bullets. Thats......it. There is literally no other use for a .50 Anti-Material Rifle. As for "un-fun".....this was originally supposed to be the "anti-game". "Fun" came from overcoming challenges and surviving another day, not taking potshots at vehicles with a mono-purpose rifle that is useless for anything else. Finally, we are not in a "military zone". We are in a mostly-rural region of a Post-Soviet state. The largest military base on the map is minuscule compared to an actual military base, and shares room with an equally tiny airfield.

Language? I didn't mean to upset you to the point of cursing. I read lots of posts on this subject, and many of the developer responses included concerns over making such a powerful weapon too easily accessible. So when I thought this up, I was putting a lot of emphasis on rarity and making it truly difficult to acquire and deploy. The Call of Duty franchise has a much more satisfying spread of .50 caliber weapons to choose from. It sounds like many people are looking for a quick easy way to grief people in vehicles. So many people are just looking for quick and easy deathmatch with ridiculously geared players, that I wonder if they know what game they are playing. I'll bet you all want to be able to jump ten feet high as well. My proposal was focused on the gun being very hard to find, even harder to secure rounds for, and very inconvenient (but not impossible) for a lone person to deploy. Placing the weapon under haystacks UPSTAIRS AND INSIDE of the barns, inside a crate wrapped with waterproof tarps (for realism) would require players looking for such a powerful anti-material weapon to carry around a pitchfork and check nearly every barn on the map to get one. I don't think it is unrealistic for a weapon hidden in a floor to be covered by another material such as hay. I'm sorry that you don't think an antiuqe SINGLE SHOT weapon such as I had described would be a useful addition to the game, or appropriately realistic for your tastes. It still does seem plausible to me, given the rampant theft of military equipment from the Soviet Army during the cold war. I'm pretty sure that you just have a stiffy for a Barret (or KSVK), and nothing else will do. Sorry my suggestion was of such little use to you.

The G17 is hopefully coming into the game, you've stated some good points about the weapons. And the dev have been talking about adding the PKM as a vehicle-mounted weapon when vehicles are expanded drastically.
-
That is the entire point. It is a crew served weapon with the ability to destroy a vehicles engine in 1 shot or penetrate even the thickets of bases or fortifications not some 360 no scope gun that you can jump spin prone headshot some guy.

These are some ideas i came up with at the spot that i think should be in the game. Food & Water: Lifestraw - hard to find, can be used at ANY water source, works pretty much as a well. MRE - Military grade "Meal Ready to Eat", rare, pack itself works as a medkit with default items used for making the meal, MRE only consists of the base items needed, water required. Coffee & Tea - bags of Coffee & Tea can be found around the map, coffee is common and tea is uncommon(remember this is Russia), [Tea]: pour some water into a cooking pot, cook the water, pour it into a canteen or PET bottle, add tea, [Coffee]: pour water & add coffee into a cooking pot, heat the water, pour into a canteen/PET bottle. Both heats you up pretty effectively. Clothing: Fingerless Gloves(i know that they are in the game files). A hoodie down & up option on the torso clothing with hoods. suit - makes you look like a badass ;) Weapons & Attachments: A series of handguns from the Glock series, like the Glock 17, Glock 18 and Glock 25. M134 Minigun - an Extremely rare weapon which takes just as rare ammunition, 10000 round ammo belt, it's the rarest weapon in the game and can only be mounted to vehicles. MG3 - German machine gun that can be held in hands or mounted to vehicles for improved accuracy and stability. .44 Desert Eagle - Powerful handgun produced in Israel, it is chambered in .44 ammunition. PKM - Soviet machine gun that can be mounted to cars or carried in hands, can be found in military areas or pre-mounted to cars. M249 - American machine gun that can be mounted to cars or carried in hands, can only be found at UH-1Y-Venom helicopter crash sites. This is a WIP post, feel free to comment any ideas you think should be on this list. Credit to CREDIDRED for the MRE idea, check out his YouTube channel, he has great ideas which he makes models for and is open for modders to use his work. https://www.youtube.com/user/CREDIDREAD Removed: Full blood bags Barrett .50 Cal Sniper. Accepted and added to the game: Atlas Bipod

Black Screen when logging in to servers/after death blindly clicking to respawn
mmcarthur posted a topic in Troubleshooting
I had 460 hours played on DayZ I stopped playing around the time vehicles came out, I came back now when ever I log in to a server I do not see "Wait for Host" or "Please Wait" it's just a black screen and then I spawn in. If I press Alt Tab to pull up the steam overlay I can see the "Wait for Host" etc in the background. When I die I see a black screen as well and have to use Alt Tab to figure out where my cursor is then hopefully get lucky on respawning button. I do use Dual Montors my rig is a great one just built it 6 months ago for 1,200 DayZ's worked perfectly on it before not sure why this is happening. -
HARDCORE | FINALdayZ | Epoch Survival | The TOUGHEST Server in DayZ
Cartoonrboy replied to Cartoonrboy's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
PRIMARY mission Seraja army base can be seen from almost anywhere on Namalsk. Its spire reaches 100m or more and broadcasts a repeating message for the militant. Intercepting the message is not easy as there are bandits within the grounds, guarding what rare loot may be there. Occasionally the elite military presence uses the location to fill vehicles and sort supplies and getting through them is a veteran task. What you'll discover there is entirely worth the effort... Stay ALIVE! -
Stats are being worked on and will eventually be implemented :) No. This would be fighting the symptoms instead of the cause. Also with .53 there's been a huge success in the fight against hackers. A new inventory system is on its way, this might include fixing whatever issues people are having at the moment. I never have any issues with my inventory personally. Again fighting symptoms instead of the cause. Vehicles are still heavily a work in progress, so expect issues with them. Might also be fixed with the new inventory system? Not sure Loot spawns & loot tables are still a heavily work in progress. I think these are more complaints of known bugs then suggestions really... I think most of these issues will be solved this year.

Wow you played for a long time and never killed a player. That's pretty crazy. Interesting Anyhow killing players in day z seems to be put way up on a pedestal by many players. For me I never really got a since of achievement like some do that play this game. I have to confess most players I have shot in game I saw them 1st. Much of the time it feels kind of like a relief that they fall over more then anything. There no longer a threat and I dint have to worry about them. Its never really honorable. I have shot players that were un armed, inside vehicles, in the back, point blank and far away. I don't really care, because its a game and I know good and well they would shoot me too. Its just a reflex, really. To me its something I do out of in game survival, which is my end game. But yeah its never some kind honor thing. I don't lie to my self and feel the need to put a label bandit, on someone to make my self feel better about doing it. I just do it. I don't need an excuse. Don't feel bad, you shot someone in game, and it happens all the time. Think about it this way, most players average life is about 1 hour. If there were karma I would have never would survive nearly as long as I normally do, this is a game. Luck and karma have nothing to do with it. Don't psyche your self out so much, your over thinking it my friend. Its a game! So if it wasn't you it would have been something else. They will go back to the coast and start fresh. I think that player was really stupid for being afk were he was.

It would have to take the place of our backpack to be balanced. You would also need to not be able to sprint while holding it. 5 rounds would take up one slot. Would need to spawn in multiple parts. Would need to spawn zombie horde when fired. It would blow the game open and make vehicles a non factor when holding one. My vote is no.
-
I personally think the whole game needs more apocalyptic imagery and less military focused things. This goes for everything, from guns to clothing, to houses, to vehicles and so on. I have no downer on the military stuff, much of it looks really cool, however I would like to see more "survival" or "apocalyptic" art assets. The game has a bit too much Arma in it for me.
-
So the wind setting 7 is intentional then? Meaning players are forced sitting in houses, making up fireplaces or getting in to vehicles as soon as it's windy. And if they can't do any of the above they will die. Correct? Just trying to understand how you intend it to be.
-
Out of curiosity - what happens when you stay in houses or vehicles?
-
Correct me if i am wrong, but isnt that an anti-material weapon in the first place? Im sure you can drop infected/survivors with it as well, but i think that if they ever implement this weapon, they should configure it in such a way that it should be mainly used for exactly that purpose : Taking down people inside vehicles, or the vehicles themselves... They can do this by presenting better alternatives for marksmen and sniping, and by adding obvious disadvantages for carrying such a weapon : slower movement speed, increased fatigue, rare ammunition... Anyway, i can probably name over 20 weapons (both civilian and military) that are for more realistic to add, before even thinking about a .50 Barret. And that list can include one of the many Russian anti-material rifles... So i dont think this should be a priority. Imho they need to first diversify the low tier firearms found in civilian locations, before thinking about military weapons. Anyway, anybody can come up with lists of weapons. It all stands or falls on the loot economy. This NEEDS to work.... it should be a perfect mix of diversity, realism and game balance.

In a lot of places you'd be surprised how similar the military and police are in terms of equipment. I mean, here in the United States there's already a lot of controversy over giving police departments MRAPs and armor handed down from the US (mainly from those who are overly worried that better protection for cops means we're becoming a police state, but I digress.) In Africa, Asia, and South America (and Mexico for a notable North American example) it's extremely common for police officers to openly wear AKs and other assault rifles. Eastern Europe is not really any different save for the fact you'll also have a standard patrol force likely included, but for the most part the cops get a lot of hand me down AKs and re-painted military vehicles and the largest difference is their legal abilities are different to those of the military. In the U.S. we just have that "tier" of patrol cops who are armed with a sidearm, and sometimes a shotgun or semi-automatic rifle in their car, as opposed to other countries who either go full out or don't arm regular patrol cops with firearms at all. But basically with the amount of firearms we have now you wouldn't really see that much distinction in loot spawns at police stations vs military ones; the rifles that spawn make sense. Once we get more dedicated military rifles like the SVD or FN FAL I'd presume they will only spawn at military spawns, but for now what we have works (Except for the MP5-K. That shouldn't be a police spawn.)

Survivor Games were a perfect example of run speed too fast/state of pvp
Qiwik replied to Bororm's topic in General Discussion
Afaik we were clearly told vehicles/central economy/etc first, run speed tweaks after. I think it's a wise decision. Run speed is one of the things that are currently set to "On", like tons of food and health regeneration(though I only hope it will be removed). -
Why is such a drastic increase in enterable buildings considered a good thing?
PongoZ replied to BC_Hawke's topic in General Discussion
There is so much different then the mod it is kind of a huge leap for the OP to say that the extra rooms have the effect he says. Vehicles make the map smaller in the mod, zombie sentries that only show up when there is someone close to them makes finding people to kill way easier. the map is far better the way it is, except I liked the extra belts of dark forest that used to be on the bottom 1/3 of the map but have been filled in. Leaving the coast in the dark trying to get back to the middle where your dudes gear was used to be more exciting. But I do not think there is any correlation between number of rooms and dificultiy finding people. Drive a truck up the middle of the map, people will find you. Shoot a few flares... -
What do you think will be the lifeblood of this game?
St. Jimmy replied to gankaskon's topic in General Discussion
Environment and zombies that just makes your life a hell and it's just a battle for survival. Hopefully some mods come out that focus those Overall base building, vehicles and PVP are low on my list. Those things didn't attract me in the mod. I never had a tent camp anywhere, I never used tent to store anything. I only tried bicycle couple of times but it was just boring because you could go everywhere too quickly. Some PvP was fun sometimes but not main lifeblood for me.
