We cannot announce the exact day, as is the nature of releasing in alpha. That day could change...on the day...and we try not to announce anything unless it's set in stone. The devs are on track for December.

Most games when they announce a release date have the game largely finished and they're already working on the DLC, the date just helps the marketing department. This does not apply for DayZ

I think this is a better strategy than a lot of other, mostly higher-profile developers use, there are always unanticipated roadblocks at the end of development, especially for something this big - it's better Rocket and the team have a bit of leg room to sort it out rather than have to rush it out for a certain day with major flaws.

Beans for the update, GLORIOUS BEANS!

Would like to add that DayZ is a multiplayer game and usually multiplayer games release alpha versions to test how well the game runs with more players playing, to find bugs etc. For the people who still not understand what an alpha is.

There seems to be a lot of that as of late for games development, a lot of kids play games now (I'm talking about the 12-16 bracket) and many seem to think that Alpha and Beta is an early chance at the game having never experienced a proper Alpha/Closed Beta phase for a game or a proper launch.

I played World of Warcraft on launch, it was a mess to say the least but the devs took care of it and look what it became, the largest, most popular paid MMOs.

People just go into this expecting a finished game which they just won't get at this stage - especially with widespread testing they can't do themselves (Server load stress testing, etc.)

How about the 21st? [Of December.]

Release an apocalyptic game on the day in which the world is supposed to end...

That's what I'm hoping for - poetic.

Leaves it late enough in December to finalise everything but early enough that it's before Christmas.

Got me all excited now :)

Or how about Dec 1? Because it's sooner.

>mfw that's my birthday.

that only works if you accompany it with a picture of a facial expression

That would be nice.

How about yesterday?

Stop arguing about what an alpha is, it's traditionally done in house as well as beta's but it's whatever they say it is. When a dev says they are doing alpha testing than they are no trolling can change that.

I believe this to be the most likely course of action.

I get the feeling no matter how many disclaimers and whatnot they put up, there's gonna be a bunch of people demanding their money back

I'd say wait. It's only a month or so until it's released.

You have about a month until the standalone comes out, if you think you can squeeze £25 worth of play time out of the game before then then go for it.

I wouldn't recommend you to buy Arma2 CO just for the DayZ mod, If you're not gonna play Arma at all.

It's an awesome game - DayZ is just a mod. You should wait for december.
