If you can't stand the reality of this game, I wonder, what are you doing here? It would not be better to go play Fortnite xD, there everything is rush, oh do not wait for sure it will say that it does not support that all the players are jumping when you shoot them, that if it is an extreme cowardice, thinking about it better to go to plants vs zombies, there if they cannot kill you from afar and nobody jumps, they all go towards you in a straight line, with firm courage and honor as I feel this guy would like

Today I was wearing the press vest AND a tactical helmet and still got killed by someone with a silenced pistol and it could only have been, at best, two rounds that hit me.

There's something seriously wrong going on with armour in this patch. It's really useless.

At least rifle round to the chest makes sense to sit you down, body armor or not 🙂 I started my adventures again yesterday, so I'm really curious how a lot of these things will go.

Funny though, when I first started playing the game I'd always be in 1PP and everyone else was in 3PP.

Sniping isn't really that difficult though. A simple understanding of leading and knowing how to roughly judge your range and Bob's your uncle. Plus, with the high powered rifles on offer in the game all you need is one shot.

My problem with that type of player extends beyond that however.

In a close quarters fight, it's you against the other guy. With these camper/sniper twats it's just the other guy doing the shooting which makes everything easier for him.

The sniping game is a legitimate part of the meta and has been present on official servers since the beginning.  (You've endured it for 8 years, remember when it was worse with Mosin + LRS??)  There's no cowardice in playing the sniping game.  Additionally, DayZ would not be what it is without that constant fear of dying at any time.  Investment, tactics and social interactions are all appropriately shaped by long range snipers.  Having this risk is essential to DayZ.

Sniping requires a lot of knowledge about the game, mechanics, and player behavior.  Sitting, watching, and waiting for prey is a logical strategy.   Effective and efficient in a lawless sandbox where you only have guns and other people.  The game practically promotes it.  Saying 'sniping isn't really that difficult' makes it appear as if you're unaware of what's involved.  Also, it's known to attract one-posters who blather on about other games.

I'm well aware of what's involved and I understand why people like it. I just don't agree that it's that difficult.

And I will never be on the side of that kind of playing style. To me, it's just really cheap game play. Camping in a position and picking off a player who's probably spent hours, days, even weeks or more playing the game will never come across as an agreeable thing to me. It'll always just be a wankerish thing to do. Doubly so when it's the coastal pricks who just fire on new spawns. But at least as a new spawn, the player can just hit the respawn button. And I can't agree that it isn't the cowards way to play the game. Shooting at someone from a distanced vantage point vastly reduces the danger to the shooter. All of the danger of the more common type of shootout simply isn't there.

As for other posters blathering about other games, let them blather. It takes nothing from the point.

@Tonyeh I'm sure that there are people who play it like that, but won't hesitate to say that those people play Day Z that way at any distance. To think that only sniping promotes that, you're gravely fooling yourself. 

As I was promptly reminded yesterday, I must avoid all contact if possible and if not, then exploit the situation as best as I can and ALWAYS aim to kill the other survivor, no matter how sympathetic I might want to be in that moment. I'm simply not going to survive the infected and the nature against all odds only to be shot on sight by a fool who himself was struggling against infected just a moment ago. 

So I'm back to sniping without any apologies, because yes, that first and foremost protects me and if I don't engage, the other survivor won't even know I'm there. Survival also means, avoiding unnecessary danger.

@Tonyeh because all that you are describing can in my experience be applied to 99% of gun engagements regardless of the distance. Even at short range, people look for some kind of advantage and really the only two exceptions are unexpected encounters where it will depend on who is quicker (still deadly), or the really rare instances where people miss a lot of shots. But otherwise as I say 99% of shootings is point and kill from more or less advantageous position for the shooter. Easy. 

In fact, most of the time the reason I know where the shot came from is because I traveled with a friend, one of us was killed instantly while the other was able to engage the shooter or at least get to cover. It's almost always some version of, spot the other survivor first and wait for them to get into the kill zone. It really makes no difference to me if it is 20 or 200 meters. However; 200 or more meters is more fun and I can choose not to engage. As I write above, short range is almost always a fight that I can no longer avoid so the only chance is to take that advantage.

That is what I end up doing. I don't shoot someone unless there is no way to avoid contact, but I simply don't approach and hail strangers anymore. It is pointless - yes indeed I will miss out on the 1/20 chance that the guy might actually be interested  in having a fun adventure, but that is indeed a tradeoff I will happily do to avoid the 19 times out of 20 the guy will just mutely yank out a pewpew from his pants and blow me away.

So I have become very good at first watching a town and its surroundings to make sure nobody is there before entering, then looting quick as feck without exposing myself more than absolutely necessary, and then bugger off before someone gets there. And if I do bump into someone I shoot first. Better him than me. I hate doing it, but that's the way it goes.

So yeah, snipers aren't the only cowards - but I will agree they are among the worst. Because of the sheer pointlessness of what they do. Lie camping in relative safety to blow away other players posing no threat to them, for no other reason than simply ruining the other players' day. Skill or no skill doesn't have anything to do with it.

Exactly that, observe and engage as desired, but mostly observe and just enjoy life 🙂 really the only reason for me to engage is if someone is already in a firefight or some situation like that. Shooting others just for the sake of it, is not my thing. 

Regarding interactions, I really do miss just the small ones but that was kind of never a thing. Just saying hello, maybe trading a few items and going off different ways. I never really wanted to pair with complete strangers for 
"adventures" unless there was some other danger lurking around. Sadly, even freshies will rather attack you immediately though they have nothing to gain from equally a freshie. It's also the reason I immediately eat every single edible item as a freshie. Because f you freshies who just want to kill. You will kill hungry, starve and die a miserable death 😄

In other news, ate an unmarked food can yesterday and did vomit from it. I'm quite certain it was from the food. There was no illness attached to it or significant loss of stats, just vomiting. Not sure if eating charcoal beforehand will help to mitigate, I did not have it on hand, and I would not recommend spraying disinfectant on food 😄

Insta kills of infected from sneaking position with a vaguely sharpened object is still a joke. Really all that is missing is a highlight if the weak spot and a prompt for "special move". I like them being tough but not glass canons.

Dumbest is the lack of sound  effect and how they fall backwards into the player. Before 1.12 they'd fall on their face with a thump, from Adam's reaction on a stream from 1.12 expy it was evident the new behaviour was not intentional, yet it somehow made it to stable anyway...

Looks like they re-used the animation of when you shoot them in the head from the front or chop them with an axe (when that was still possible) but oddly without the sound effect and there is kind of a delay which always makes me for a second question if it worked?

For me it just emphasizes the feeling of "special move" that is one connected combo of movement and animation.

I don't think you are fully understanding the point I'm making.

It's not all sniping that gets my ire. It's the camping shitbags, who's only interest is in killing other players. They aren't interested in their gear or even protecting their own gear. They're not even interested in moving to any other part of the map. They're simply there to shoot at other players. It's the likes of these gillie suited pricks who'll sit on top of a hill for hours on end waiting to knock off players who are trying to get some loot together that I'm talking about.

What you're describing is avoiding contact and shooting first, even if that is at a distance. That's something all players will do once they get a gun capable of doing it.

Heat it to 100° then eat small portions of it. 

Dont eat the can whole unless preheated and your vitals are all White.

Looks like the M16 is coming to vanilla, but more important; that chicken house cannot be there by accident. Do you guys think that the bow is returning? I would be very excited if it is indeed coming.

I truly hope that's just a random screenshot and not a teaser for a <bleep>ing M16. The last thing DayZ needs right now is another bloody assault rifle. Leave the AR porn to modded servers and get the remaining missing stuff from Legacy back. And if they just can't resist the urge to put another unnecessary 5.56 AR in - they should go for the Aug...

But of course M16 is easier, just a few slight adjustments to the M4 model needed, no animation work... Zero effort content - and utterly pointless.

So yeah, I hope it's the chicken house that is the tease... 😁

If that tease was about chicken houses, it wouldn't have had the end of a gun barrel in it.   I give this a 1% chance that this is about chickens and 99% chance that it is a M16A(4) rename.  That is definitely not a M4 in that photo.  The end of the gun barrel on a M4 is slightly different than M16 variants.  I think that if they wanted to implement an M16 as a super rare, they would have to add new models as the 16 is a bit bigger in size.  We'll see!
