ShallowTech 196 Posted January 11, 2019 Can anyone tell me if bullets can penetrate walls, fences, etc.?
DayzDayzFanboy 1280 Posted January 11, 2019 I watched a clip from a mate where he shot a zombie through a wall using an svd but I don't know about other weapons.

At least thats what Ive felt; I think one time I even shot a guy to death through a door.
ImpulZ 2491 Posted January 11, 2019 Yes, certain walls and fences can be penetrated by bullets.
Jonas Levin 265 Posted January 12, 2019 The larger the bullet, the more bullet-penetration. A 7.62x54mm can shoot several doors (like 3 or 4 I think) but a .380 can only shoot through one. Some surfaces are penetrabable and others aren't - you can also shoot through the sides of the trees with heavy weapons. Bullets do lose power after a penetration though, and they often also change angle so they aint going straight ahead after penetrating. Its a _very_ impressive system! McPhorce 139 Posted January 12, 2019 Wow I actually did not realize this! Thanks for the info! I do recall being shot while hiding behind a door. Assumed he peeked me through the window but in hindsight I'm almost sure he must have shot through the door...
McPhorce 139 Posted January 12, 2019 Which also irritates the crap out of me because I remember a situation where I was locked in a room and knew 3 guys were coming for me. Could hear them unlocking the door ( the crunching days) and now realize i could have just blasted a clip through the door and probably killed all 3.... Shoot! A.308 cartridge is the civilian version of the NATO standard 7.62×51mm cartridge - but many civilian (.308) loads deliver more energy than the standard NATO military load. - Given the dimensions for a 7.62 (Russian) and a 7.62 (NATO) - neither had "larger bullets" .. and "larger bullets" (meaning "different weight") may not (at all) give greater penetration, even if both are similar FMJ design, depending on the load -To over-simplify, the x54mm cartridge is just 3mm longer than the x51mm cartridge, the bullets are the same diameter. - Gews can give you the breakdown exactly for penetration under different conditions, if he wants. All the information I provided is backed up by a pretty impressive video about it on youtube, I can see if I can find it if it is. They test it all and you can visually see how many doors the different kind of ammo is penetrating as they did it with a bunch of open garage-doors which were in a straight line. Trying to lockpick a door open when you know there an enemy waiting inside can be real risky, always try to do it from the side of the entrance. Also remember that the bullets usually change their trajectory after a penetration, so you can't expect to hit something that is far behind the penetration-point.

There is the WOBO YouTube video from July 2015 already on this forum (as well as other stuff about penetration).... Search : All Content : "penetration" Firearms parameters were altered recently. - Gews - made a recent thread about that, and also one on dispersion, and has made other VERY informative threads in the past. He is 100% worth reading if you are interested in any aspect of ballistics in DayZ. A few quick searches will find his (IMO) expert contributions on firearms, ballistics, penetration, dispersion, damage.
