Lootsplosion science and the unfortunate encounter with "The Freeman",

Recommended Posts

As 0.55 wears thin for my friend ColdAtrophy and I we decided to try to strip a lootsplosion to test some of our theories about the current bugged loot distribution.

We found a 'sploded military jail building, stashed our backpacks, locked the door, and set about pulling all of the loot away from the spawn points and stacking empty backpacks separately.

The whole time we planned this operation we were constantly reminding each other of the level of exposure the location presented, even though there was only 1 other player on the server.

After less than 30 minutes passed I thought I heard some sounds and quickly realized a zombie had aggro'd to the door and was making an unusual amount of racket. I also felt fairly certain that our recent movements should not have drawn aggro and I immediately was on guard for the possibility of another player incoming.

We apprehensively raised our weapons and came around the corner from the first floor back hallway to find a female zombie that looked trapped in the door, flailing, and squirting blood from all angles.

The spectacle was comical to say the least and my friend said something about the infected fighting each other and for a moment I thought this might be the case.

All of the sudden, the door flies open and in that same moment, ColdAtrophy cut the infected down with a couple rounds from the AKM.

As all of this is happening it registers briefly that there is another figure standing swinging a pickaxe who;

A: Never checked a building obviously locked for inhabitants.

B: Never hailed us either in direct chat or text if he had seen us.

C: Was 25 feet away swinging a melee weapon and never once shown anything but aggressive actions.

All of the factors above made for a quick decision to level my AK101 on him and cut him down nearly the same instant as ColdAtrophy directly following the demise of the infected.

I can safely speak for myself and ColdAtrophy when I say that we are completely opposed to KoS and if are approached in a neutral, non-threatening fashion, we are much more likely to help than hurt a player.

After this encounter "The Freeman" immediately rejoined, maybe hoping for some kind of imagined revenge.

We had the usual post murder "why's?!", and left the area with an idea to return and finish our lootsplosion experiment a little later.

When we returned to the jail we finished stripping the site in short order and almost immediately saw loot respawning.

Then the server froze while we were in a building by the jail and when we returned to the jail we found nearly all of the non-persistent loot had actually been cleaned up and new loot was in the previously clear areas.

Below are some pictures post clean-up.

At a barracks we have also removed the firearms completely from the building and will likely check to see how that performs later tonight.

P.S: "The Freeman", if you had no idea we were there, I'm sorry for killing you. It would behoove you to check a locked building before chopping at it's door. If you knew we were there, you have enormous brass balls or are out and out suicidal and I'm therefor, "sorry, not sorry".

Thank you for your service, sirs :)

Valuable insight into the (old) loot system.

I actually was kinda sad that we killed The Freeman, believe it or not. Then I thought about everything that led to our split second to shoot him. If the DA's shooting team had to investigate our actions, I feel like it would be ruled a righteous shoot.

From what I remember of the old system, the loot inside the "round roof" barracks (where the military tents spawn) only renews after server restarts. And it respawns slower than elsewhere. So there is no point in emptying there. Similar things seem to go for the regular barracks. However, police stations, military prisons and firestations seem to be perfect for gathering the loot. I've had cases where I emptied a police station only to find gear again in rooms that were previously empty. And if you're lucky it might spawn something good, like a 1911 mag there.

It's still tedious to do and basically more like the cleaning up in the mods was, where you ran away for 500m to come back and find a lot of loot spawned again. I do think the buildings may have a limit to what they can spawn, because I've seen some, where new loot appeared and others where nothing happens. So it works best at places that spawn a decent amount of loot anyway. Loot always seem to spawn in places it wasn't spawned in before, too.

The DA might agree, but the President might not.

I guess I forgot about the current political climate.

Stackarovs.

Gold!

Poor Freeman. Obviously driven to insanity by starvation and the terrifying undead wandering all of the place. He's resting now guys. You did him a favour.

I stacked those backpacks. And my husband is quite satisfied with my performance, thank you very much.

My son and I found a lootsplosion prison at the one up the hill from nwaf. I was parking the truck by the well and alcove out back and as he was telling me he found/picking up yet another makarov mag I saw a beartrap spawn in said alcove. I was doing the backpack trashbag thing before .55 dropped and my anecdotal results confirmed that you can trigger/encourage lootpukes in the .54 system.

*edit* Red_Ensign do you play under that name in game? We saw your name on the shitty low pop no ping kick server we're forced to play on by our shitty sat internet.

yep, I saw you too.  can't remember what server though, but I generally stick to low pop - I don't pvp.

how long did it take for the loot to start respawning? i ask because ive been to out of the way towns with absolutely nothing in them but glow sticks and hard hats (since the .54 roll back) on low pop servers and have returned about an hour later (as well as the next day while offline) and found nothing there again. does this mean the town was empty to begin with and that's why no loot is respawning in the area? or have i been unfortunate enough to have these places looted just prior to logging in or returning....

In my experience the empty or really low loot areas stay empty but the lootpuke zones will instantly respawn stuff just out of sight. I saw a beartrap spawn when my son picked up a makarov mag 10 meters away and at neaf I took a bag of pistols out of the control room to the water tower and came back to a longhorn on the floor that was not there when I loaded the first bag.

We saw exactly the same things happening. Leave a room, come back, more stuff after we had just cleared it completely. I swear I've watched soda cans spawn right in front of my face too, but I always wanted to dismiss it as something that perhaps didn't render right away or something I missed.

so theoretically, i could go to a lootsplosion, pack a backpack full of random things, move it out of the area a ways, then come back and hopefully a pso scope could spawn in the same area where the other random stuff was? (talking about a military lootsplosion)

While this is technically true, I wouldn't expect it. So far (without actually farming for this effect) we haven't seen anything substantial spawn after clearing out the lootsplosion.

i picked up a can of peaches before and saw a new pristine can spawn right in the same exact place as i went to turn away.

If you do try and intentionally farm stuff it seems to favor the commonly spawning items so it would take more than one backpack. I shuffled about 20 bags out of Vybor military base before .55 and it just spawned more gorka clothes and makerov mags disproportionately. Now in Stary Sabor where my camp was I cleaned the police station, grocery kiosk, and the garages and that got me 3 LRSs at the garage.
