zombies do what?

Recommended Posts

Hi, im new to this game, I've only been playing for around a week. so I keep running into this problem of running from zombies and when I hide in a house I close the door and the zombie(s) just float/slide/walk/run through the wall into the building I'm in and I die. I noticed that usually the camouflage zombies are the ones doing it, others do but mainly the ones wearing camo. it's really making me mad, there is no escape. Cities are crazy hard to loot for me because of this. The game is great, except this keeps happening to me and it sucks really bad trying to run away when you don't have weapons. anyone know if this will ever be fixed? Do doors serve a purpose? Last 3 zombies I saw did this to me.

Welcome to the game!

The issue you're describing is well known and has been around for some time, but the Devs are working on it. I recommend you to read through the forums, you will find much information about all the bugs that are currently in the game.

Don't let the bugs kill your fun!

The escape is 1000 yards in a straight line :P Seriously, don't run into buildings to hide from zeds. Glitches and desync mean they stand a chance of getting inside anyway. Just run a few laps around town and shake them off, or better yet, get yourself a half-decent melee weapon and just kill them. They're really not that much of a threat right now.

You need to work on your hand to hand skills. Even without a weapon, the zeds are pretty manageable. Just pick a direction, clockwise, or counterclockwise and circle them. Keep moving, as this interrupts their attack. While they are confused, punch them in the head. You may have to knock them down 3+/- times, before they are dead.

Melee combat is pretty much the same. Get close, keep moving and aim for the head. Striking/stabbing to the body is pretty ineffective.

Hi. Have a few yolo tries at zombies when you respawn. You will quickly learn their attack pattern and how to dodge/counter it. It gets ridicilously easy even when fighting multiple zombs.

Killing them asap is still better than locking them up or running away due to their buggy nature.

Im only new myself But I find if you can get the yellow handle axe.

Face zombie when they come at you don't move till they are just about on you side step turn and  head shot them works for me 99% of the time

Exactly. This is a great tactic for the ones that charge you.

If a zombie goes through the wall or a door and you die, then you are clearly standing there and allowing it to kill you. Zombies are not dangerous; they are a nuisance and a player detector.

Pro Tip: If you walk out of the room when the zombie comes in the room, it will have a more difficult time hitting you.

Good advice here. While the team works on nailing down these zombie issues, I usually concentrate first on finding a melee weapon as a freshspawn.

If you spawn on the beach, look down, press the action button to find a stone, then hold the stone in your hand and look down again and make an improvised knife. You can hold this in your hand when you punch the zombies and it'll do a little more damage, but still aim at the head. You can also use it to open tins and will get a good percentage, more than you'd get from an axe.

I stated I'm a new player, please don't give me this already. The point of this post wasn't about zombies being easy to kill or hard to kill. It was about them walking through walls and doors. All I wanted to know if the devs were working on it.

All Rags was trying to do is point out that they are easy to get away from and if they are following you inside a house and they are killing you there, then you aren't doing what you need to do to escape them. Also bone up on the forums as this is a known issue. Dev team is working hard to fix glitchy zeds among other things

Stone knife, no need to look for melee. No idee why its so easy to make. But the no1 tool in dayZ at the moment.

Looks as though Zom's have taken a step backwards. They are now hitting through walls again which I hadn't experienced for a long time and also doing that thing where they can connect with their hitss even when you are 15 mtrs away.

For a while, this was a huge issue; it was almost as though walls didn't exist. Then they managed to fix it (for the most part), as I discovered when a zombie chased me into a small house, and I then ran out the door and closed it. I ran around to the other side of the house and looked through the window, and the zombie was running around inside the room trying to get out. So it has been fixed, to a degree; I have, however, noticed that lately they seem to be starting back up on it again, so it'll probably get nailed down before too long. You still have a better chance than you used to inside of a building, but unfortunately it's still not 100% safe yet.

Exactly; I think the hitting from distance thing might be desync, as well; I've been noticing it a lot more lately too.

     I cant find any zombies

I'm still pretty new but have about 150 hours in the last 2 weeks. I noticed a big change last update as far as them hitting/moving through walls and doors and over great distances in the open. Also there's either no zombies or ALL the zombies in any given area.

Since playing 0.53 stable i have noticed the following problems with zombies :

- low populations in some areas, where there should be a lot of infected.

- Sometimes no infected at all.

- The zombie launching sound is gone, so you often only hear a zombie when he is already very close. This isn't a bad thing tho, it keeps you on your toes.

- Zombies have trouble detecting players, even when they are standing very close. Its like some have become blind and deaf from the infection as well?

- Infected can glitch trough walls and doors again, and they do so more often. Sometimes they get stuck inside houses on their own.

- zombies can glitch inside structures, or floors and vanish from sight, and still hit you. All you can do is run away and relocate.

None of these things really have too much of an impact on me. For my geared up characters, its just easier to stop in small villages to restock on food or water, without constantly being harassed by re spawning zombies. And the ones that are there, are often easier to kill. The glitching zombies are only a problem when you are an unarmed fresh spawn, or when you are looting military areas, where the pressure is on and you cant make any mistakes.

As a fresh spawn, just keep an eye out for a good melee weapon (fire axe, pickaxe, splitter axe), just run outside of a house at any indications of nearby zombies as fast as you can, locate it, and put it down permanently. Pickaxes are common and a lot better for killing infected than splitter axes. Just use those until you find a fire axe. I haven really tried the new melee weapons out, but the ice axe looks like it could be a good weapon. Ill have to give it a try soon.

Untill the central economy system is in place, i dont think they need to do too much work on the zombie AI and population. The zombies should be hard to kill and plentiful, only if there is a balanced loot system in play to counter them. The loot economy and how they deal with persistence, is probably what will make or break this game imho.

It's really good. You can one hit kill with a head shot, two body shots will take them down too. The other benefit is they only take up two spots in your backpack.

QFT. When looking for PvP just hang back on a hill or in the woods and just look for zombie aggro. Target acquired!

It also helps not to rely on the crosshair, if you aim your crosshair at the zombies face for example youll be hitting him in the chest, you need to aim a bit higher with the crosshair as if yyou're not aiming at anything and get up close if you punch him once in the correct spot hell go down quickly.
