Supernatural horror that stalks you

Recommended Posts

I thought this would be an interesting topic to discuss about adding gameplay themes to Dayz. What about the idea of monsters and your greatest fears that haunt your character and fills you with fear. You will have to survive this creature of darkness that follows you in the day and in the night.

This is a movie trailer of the babdook, a horror movie where a monster from a book torments a mother and turns her mad. Could we have something similar in Dayz, where every book you find is a book about the babdook each with a message of horror and the walls are painted with blood or some other scary decorations.

I'll never understand why so many people want DayZ to be some other game.

Right, I am obviously going to sound like a right c**t for saying this, but nothing "ethereal" or irrational scares me. Monsters, darkness, etc. These things just don't freak me out. Heights, yeah, they scare me but then there is a reason to be scared of that as being at height has a certain chance of killing you. Darkness doesn't because, hell what is it? Just an absence of light, nothing is different. Monsters don't exist and certainly nothing "evil", in the sense of religiously evil, exists.

However, I do concur that the ***Dook is a good film. Not scary but fun none the less. The popup book is really well done.

Edit: Well that's funny, "BɑBɑ" (as in "BɑBɑDook") is automatically censored on the forum. Is this a joke by one of the admins or is "BɑBɑ" a swear word I haven't come across. And if it is, can someone tell me what it is (by PM of course) as I always like to increase my (admittedly already large) vocabulary of insults.

isn't it bad enough you have people in the game that can stalk you already?

And some of them have supernatural powers, too. But we don't talk about that, here.

So you basically want a Diablo III Nemesis system integrated into a game that's supposed to be somewhat realistic. This isn't Resident Evil or Left for Dead, bro.

I tell you what OP, in a slight tip of the hat (a fedora of course) to your initial post here is a novel twist to that suggestion.

We all want to reduce KoS/banditry or at least provide a negative for those who do. Think of a cinematic like flashback of the people you've killed superimposed over your main view that can hit you at any time, accompanied by any suitable sounds or added screams. These can hit you at any time, although more likely to happen when in high stress situations.

It's clearly a very left-field situation, and I'm not necessarily suggesting it's added just throwing it out there for the laugh, but just remind yourself that a mechanic like this has already been introduced with some level of positivity and that is the effect of Prion, albeit not a visual aspect to things.

Zombies would go down a treat !

Oh, you old traditionalist, you...

Babdook sucked and please, no horror in Dayz. Adding stuff like that

would take away what realism the game have today. As a kind of easter egg,

sure, but not as an permanent addition.

No! Just no. Please go play Evolve, evil within and all that crap.

Animal predators? Fine.

Super zombies ruined the dayz rival. Please not here.

The game needs a stalker who hides in the trees, and the UI needs a "stalk-o-meter" for when you feel he is getting close to you. I think there needs to be nightvision goggles standard for your character, and when the stalker gets really close you start to breathe really hard on your character! I think it would be super cool, personally.

I dont think demons or evil like that has a place.

However, I wouldnt mind seeing some more types of zombies to make zombies a little more dangerous.  You could make them creepy too.  Maybe a zombie that temporarily blinds you, paralyzes you or some such.  They could look different and provide more of a menace.

I only say this because right now, even if there were more of them, zombies are not threatening or scary at all.

There is enough player induced horror, I think.

Some bordering the supernatural depending on how you look at it.

Go play a Namalsk server from the mod that has Bloodsuckers turned on. Preferably at night. You will know what true fear is then.

I believe the horror factor in this game should come in a more realistic way, like with sound effects for example. Imagine someone shots you in the leg, you character falls to the ground screaming in panic and crying because of the pain, while you know that those screams will agro zeds/the guy who shot you and you are incapable of doing fast moviments to gfto, dying, helpless. We need good voice actors Imo, sound can add A LOT to this game.

I mean, imagine the possibilities man, if you are running from a zed group, and one of them manages to hit you and your character responds with panic screams + heavy breathing sounds. I mean, the characters are not A.R.M.A. supersoldiers, so I belive that good voice acting can be a nice way to represent the horror or panic factor of the game

I agree, so so SO much.

Whatever happened to the little moans, gasps, and phrases your avatar would make when injured earlier in the alpha? Those were pretty awesome, and some more in-depth screams, breathing, and groans would be even better.

What are you talking about? This IS supposed to a survival horror game. We have plenty of survival but no horror as of yet. Personally i find the game rather dull without the combined mix of the two. It doesn't have to be over the top but it LACKS the substance needed to scare the shit out of ppl. Yeah player interaction blah blah blah is all well and good but there needs to be things to keep you scared as shit beyond whats currently given even if its more realistic. There needs to be physical scares not just stupid mind fucks.

You forgot to add "in my opinion" at the end, there.

In my opinion, "mind fucks" are scary, and "physcial scares" are childish and crude. I find the current Day Z plenty frightening on its own, without jump scares, overt gore, and the like.

terror vs horror and all that.

You can have as many none physical scares as you want to quench your sophisticated pallet however the game still lacks a huge physical make up of things needed to add to the horror. The game is to dry cut and clean at the moment. And i think allot of ppl will agree with this as well.

This disaster is insanely clean at the moment. There should even be bodies strewn about from the plane crashing into the building of Cherno but there isnt.

1) Again, your opinion. And I am sure you know the phrase about opinions and assholes: Everyone has one. Yours is no more valid than mine, nor mine yours. People like, and want, different things.

2) I doubt you quite understand just how how hot jet fuel burns. Look at 9/11, there should be little to no building left, much less bodies strewn about.
