Acher0n 39 Posted October 3, 2014 (edited) Just spawned in, was in some town, cant remember what. Walk into a supermarket and start taking damage. Cant hear anyone or hits or anything. Start bleeding, fractured arm. Run out of the supermarket. Out comes a bandit with his little bandit mask on and axe. I had about 30 mins worth of loot on me and posed no threat. I didnt even have a weapon. Anyway, the bandit comes out of the floor of the supermarket from underneath and kills me straight away. Respawn in. I somehow spawn right next to another newspawn. I back away, dont show any hostile intention, and as expected, the fists come up and he starts punching me. Dead again. Respawn back in. Server crashes. Respawn in again, make my way to a town. Get attacked by a zombie. After 35 clicks with a pitchfork and only 1 hit, I run away. Into the next town, find a baton and SKS (no ammo). 2 more crawling zombies now attack me. Probably 60-70 clicks of the baton later, and two recorded hits. Dead. Ragequit. Remember when melee used to work and zombies were'nt impossible to hit? Yeah, me too. On a similar note, i'm now at 94 hours in this game and have never spoken to another player. Not once. Never. Every single person I have met in the last 94 hours has either killed or tried to kill me on sight, without so much as a hello. *shakes head* Edited October 3, 2014 by Acher0n
nl 986 Posted October 3, 2014 Next time you fight a zombie, keep your "dot" on the head when you strike. If you need 60 strikes for 2 hits it's you who's doing something wrong. My tactic, let them stand in front of you, strike, move sideways as they start their hitting animation and repeat until defeat.
kimosabbi 48 Posted October 3, 2014 Next time you fight a zombie, keep your "dot" on the head when you strike. Please be aware the the dot is not your crosshair and if you test with a gun you will shoot below this dot (point dot at somewhere and then right click without moving the mouse)
Sammi79 4 Posted October 3, 2014 For melee, currently you need to learn to avoid aiming with the dot on the target, instead aim it roughly 1cm to the left of your intended target, aim low and above all get close like bumping into them close. You can avoid being hit by zeds by simply circle strafing in one direction, which also prevents them from swinging. when they stop for a second to adjust to your orbit, simply change direction and swing. stielhandgranate 480 Posted October 3, 2014 I love those clown masks. I remember one time running around in full kit (like to go full slav soldat) and some clown bandit tries to rush me with a fireaxe until he realizes I have a pistol drawn. As I pump the would be highwayman with lead I see "Please don't friendly" in the chat feet.
Killawife 599 Posted October 3, 2014 You do know that you can run away from anyone that hasn't got a gun right? Everybody runs at equal speed so just run away and lure them into some zombies or jump off a quay.. As for that thing where someone comes out of the floor in supermarkets I've heard its a glitch. Never seen it used though. I speak to people every day so it seems strange that you wouldn't have spoken to anyone in 90 hours playtime. Sure, mostly they only say "I kill you stupid america" but it still counts as speaking.

My tactic, let them stand in front of you, strike, move sideways as they start their hitting animation and repeat until defeat. Depends on the weapon, but I almost never hit with the white dot on the zombie's head.. Its in fact more complicated, I usually get a hit every swing, But It took a while to learn how... Keep on trying, and try make your weapon connect with the zombie, forget that the white dot exists.
chepaco3290 59 Posted October 3, 2014 On a similar note, i'm now at 94 hours in this game and have never spoken to another player. That may be why everyone kills you. Do you try to communicate with them through VOIP? Also, make sure your VOIP volume is up. Met a guy who had a broken leg in Novo and was offering to help him, but he wouldn't answer me. I began to think I was being set up, so I started threatening him to either answer me to face a bullet to the face. He finally screamed out that he heard me, and said that his VOIP volume was set all the way down. I would have shot him too.
Red_Ensign 990 Posted October 3, 2014 dunno about other melee weapons, but with an axe I prettymuch aim for the heart and hit more often than not. only time I have trouble is when there's desync - then no amount of aiming will help. as for player encounters, the last one I had followed me after I gave him some gear (jacket, can opener, extra rags, etc). didn't do anything aggressive, just followed. the one before that ran away immediately. gannon46 788 Posted October 3, 2014 that guy was not a bandit he was a murderer why does anyone who kills another player called a bandit I think of bandits like the opposite of the hero not just some douchebag that kills everything that moves psychopath is what they should be called. and you should try not going to coastal popular towns I've got my dude geared nicely with gorka stuff from the red roofed barns and small villages if you don't want to run into mr.murderer again try that.
Karmaterror 982 Posted October 3, 2014 (edited) Being friendly is all well and good, im a friendly aswell. But as soon as they show hostile intent...the gloves come off FIGHT BACK MAN! Edited October 3, 2014 by Karmaterror

Pitchforks have been known as one of the most useless melee weapons out there, the most common melee to use and usually really easy to find would be the hoe.Of course nothing is better than a fireaxe or a wood cutting axe. escobert 112 Posted October 3, 2014 Being friendly is all well and good, im a friendly aswell. But as soon as they show hostile intent...the gloves come off FIGHT BACK MAN!Yup, I'm one of the friendliest people you'll meet in game. I just don't trust anyone I don't know so therefore don't expect for me to want to travel with you but, if you need food or supplies or an axe I always have extras. I think right now people also don't like the look of my character. I was commenting to a friend that I probably look like a bandit to peopl with TTsKO jacket, black high capacity vest, black cargo pants, the boonie hat with ttskoish pattern and the black skull mask. The pickaxe deals the same damage as the splitting axe (as does the hoe), 2 strikes and the zombie is out. But for overall survival purposes the axes are indeed way better, since this enables you to cut down trees for those precious sticks for your backpacks, fireplace kits and splints and lumber for fireplaces. Yeah for some reason I forgot about the pickaxe. Also, the axe opens your food, it's the most versatile item you can carry.

If you die there I have no sympathy for you. You go for the low hanging fruit and you deserve what you get. All the pvpers and the noobs go there. Guess which one preys on the other. If .5 somehow makes it to live half as crazy as it is now players are going to be in for a surprise though. Starving and hungry you need to get help. My friends and I all had to band together to keep the less fortunate in our group alive after spawning because the amount of food you need is insane. Because of this our game prioritys have changed from Get guns/gear > do whatever we want to whoever, to Get food, clothing, matches, and things to help hunt and gather food> help friends not die, find weapons for protection of food and extra equipment. You need to be really close to hit zombies. I have ghetto-net and I can still 1hit them with a fire axe or punch them to death without much problem. You need to be closer than you used to but thats all.
Old_Crow_Whiskey 119 Posted October 3, 2014 If you don't have a mic, get one and use it. People without mics can't be trusted point blank. If you've been using your mic and still getting your head split open anyway maybe you need to change what you say and how you say it. If you've been saying all nice guy things in a nice guy way, there are one of two things at work here: 1. You just naturally sound like an asshole and people are taking you out as a precaution. The 'wrong' accent or slang can have all sorts of implications in how others perceive you.2. You sound like a wimpy weakling and people are preying on this perceived weakness. LazlowRave 3 Posted October 4, 2014 Purchased DayZ over a week ago, played it for the first time today that was longer than ten minutes.... Played for couple hours, exploring and fleeing from any combat being zombie or human. Stayed away from cities. Got some decent loot and a backpack. Shotgun with about 20 rounds and plenty of 7.62 rounds hoping to find a rifle to scrap my shotgun. Perfect clothes where weather or rain wasn't a bother. Hatchet, plenty of food and a water bottle. I was loaded and well off. Died instantly walking down some stairs. Said I broke my leg or something. Idk what that was about. Thought to myself, "Alpha version..."

I had a mosin so I started shooting back, and the guy pulled out an AK. He missed his whole first clip and I said on VOIP "Why wont you ever talk instead of fight?", he came back, sprayed another AK magazine and got a headshot. DEad. I am now alive again and went to the NEAF. I was trying to make a makarov work in the top of the control tower when I got shot in the arm. I went down one floor and healed up, and started camping to see if the guy would show up. I waited for maybe 10 mins and then quit.
