How was your Day(Z)?

Recommended Posts

Interesting dayz....

So I logged in just off the coast on the east of the map. Pouring rain... Wet, hungry... Just your typical day in hell!

I had a baseball bat in a moment and went to raid the police station. Nothing there.. Well what did I expect?

All of a sudden I hear foot steps, I spin round on the spot just as a guy swings a sledge hammer at my head. I side step.. He misses and I catch him with the bat, he swings again and catches me good. I'm bleeding. It's do or die... I go caveman on him and smash his head in with my bat. Nice, he has a rain coat, a bag, some food and mixed ammo!

I decide to head down to cherno planning to loop inland to the west and come round to the north of the town looting buildings on my way. I soon had a repeater with 6 rounds. It wasn't long before I found trouble.... I had gone miles off course and ended up coming onto the coast from the north as I'd planned, only miles east from where I had wanted(not sure of the name of the town I came upon)....

I could hear gun shots.. M4, sks and something else maybe a mosin... I flanked the northern edged of the town down a steep valley and across a dirt track. Looking left and right as I sprint accross the dead ground on the valley floor I see a fresh spawn running out of town towards me...

I stop just off the track in the bushes. The woman has seen me and I raise my repeater, she comes at me fists raised. It's not really what I want when I'm trying to be stealthy!! I end using all 6 rounds to get rid of her. Damn. No more rounds! But I decide to press on with my mission. I creep up to where I think the shots came from and sure enough I see a full decked guy croutched in a small courtyard. I pull out my trusty baseball bat and move on his position... If I had rounds he would be dead! I'm now right by his position on the other side of the wall... And I rush him. I get a good clean hit.. I can take him, but shit there is another guy there, he pulls his m4 and fills me with holes. It was worth a try....

I spawn back in just outside Cherno and start to loot buildings, heading west. The place is barren.. Nothing around and I'm starving and thirsty.

I find a drybag in the middle of a road with some ok gear (food, bipod and cuffs) and decide to head up to the apartments. Nearing the small 2 story barracks in the middle of the apartments complex I get a server restart. Ace.... The server comes back and I'm in the barracks and get some good gear, mixed ammo, a wolf mask and a shovel. The plan now is to high tail it down to the airfield.

I meet up with a guy being chased by a Zed and I kill the Zed for him. We trade some items, he gives me a pump action for some sks ammo. We have a quick chat and part company. Nice guy!

I make it to the airfield and loot the hangers and control tower. Lots of ammo of all sorts (but no shotgun ammo) balistics helmet, plate carrier, LRS, hunting knife... Loads of stuff. I can't resist a peak on the roof of the control tower... And then as I'm coming down.... Whack.. Whack, rounds are falling all around me! I hit the ground and start to snake away, looking over my shoulders but I can't see anyone. The rounds are still coming pinning off the hangers as I sprint to the west, out of danger. I get to the town just outside the airfield. I'm alive. I'm glad. I log.

I saw the creepiest thing yesterday. I spawned near Kamyshovo and noticed there were some people running around so i snuck around for a bit and finally got into the police station. As I'm on the roof I notice soem activity in the garages so I lie and wait. After a bit a girl comes running  with a bambi tagging along, she's telling him to come along to her friend and lures him into the garages. They then cuff him and do unspeakable things in there. I grabbed the moment and ran to elektro wherer I was axed to death for no reason. Having no gun sucks sometimes.

Even as I clicked into the thread to read your post I was thinking "I wonder how he got killed this time." You must be the unluckiest player ever. Hang in there!

Haha! Naw, I don't think I'm particularly unlucky, I just make a lot of wrong choices and mistakes. Like yesterday, If I had just run up the stairs of the firestation and up on the roof i wouldnt have been hacked to death, and the day before that, had I not been unsuccessful in bringing out my gun I most likely wouldnt have died or I could just have let the guy rob me and I might have survived. Those human steask made me think not, though.

Today i died on the prison island. Some russian punk shot me in the back and then shouted obscenities over comms. I didnt even have my gun out.

But I did manage to find a few nice things on anohter character. I found a Hind heli crash, my first one. And found an ammo box, two combat knives and an fnx and some m4 mags(why would russians use these?). Unfortunately no ak's but I found one later at a barrack.

I also found a rak magazine in a police station on another character.

Got a couple of cars and drove all the way from Altar to Komarovo via Elektro and Cherno with plans to cross the oceans in a magnificent exodus to that prison island of recent legends.

My friend told me it was possible. After all this in an alpha.

My friends in the green car drove past the island and ended up drowning in the great blue depths.

Myself and my other friend slammed in to a steep hillside and the car tumbled on its roof. I died, he was the only survivor.

It was worth it though.

Pretty sure that's an American chopper. Seem to recall the American ones smoke and the Russian ones do not- not to mention the very distinctive profile of Russian choppers.

I got lost. I don't like using maps outside the game, and headed off into the woods inland. I have no idea where I am but I'm trying to get to NWAF... This game is insane sometimes. So frustrating if you don't know where you're going! Apart from that I have a nice mosin with LRS and swan off shotgun, my trusty hockey stick (the zombie slayer) and plenty of food.. So I'm surviving, just have no idea where I am!

last time i logged out inside a prison cell on the new island, so i hopped on a low pop server to swim back to the mainland. there were only 2 other people on the server so i took this opportunity to have some target practice. i gathered a bunch of ammo and magazines and an ak-74-u (one of many laying around in that place) and spent a good while firing rounds at trees on the other side of the water.. eventually i started swimming off the island with my sks on my back. feels weird leaving so much military loot and weapons behind, but i could only carry one and i prefer a bolt action over an automatic rifle.

almost halfway across the water i heard the sound of a truck closing in.. and soon i spotted it driving almost right under me on the bottom of the ocean.. theres only 1 other player on the server at this moment and ofc we end up at the same location again .

i turned around, stole the poor chap's truck while he was looting the prison, and cruised across chernarus knowing that the only threat (besides the glitchy truck) was now stuck on prison island. i made it as far as NW airfield where i found a makarov with some mags and more ammo for the sks. i ditched the truck and did some more target practice on zeds in the nearby villages before i logged off (had to make some room in the backpack, picked up way to much ammo)

the near-empty server was a nice change from always having to be on guard, still i can't wait to get back on a higher populated one next time.. dayz isn't really dayz without that feeling that trouble could be waiting behind every corner

WARNING! What follows is definitely a 100% guaranteed, krazypenguin patented TL:DR post.  You have been warned!

Have you ever seen a film called Duel, where a guy in a car is chased by a murderous truck?  That was my DayZ yesterday - I was the guy in the car, only I didn't have the car...

I logged in to the Musty server with the pop around 20 people.  I'd been on the top floor of one of the buildings at Chez Eno's but now found myself downstairs.  I poked my head out the door and quickly scanned the area for anyone else but it seemed clear so I started looking in the various out-buidlings, trying to find rope or burlap sacks to start building up a stash.  I look around but there's nothing here.  There's no way I am risking Berezinho so I decide to head South towards Nizhnoye and then inland towards the town of Orlovets.  I'm halfway towards Nizhnoye, slap bang in the wide open, when I hear the familiar rumble of a big old diesel engine.

I look over my shoulder and see a big blue truck is coming down from the North and it's heading straight towards me - despite the distance I've somehow already been spotted.  I sprint for the closest tree, desperate to put a solid object between us before he can run me down and the driver turns right, passing wide of the trees and forcing me back towards the coast.  I keep running South as he navigates his way back onto the coast road and resumes his pursuit.

There's nothing but wide open terrain in front of me and I know that if I try stopping to shoot he'll just mow me down.  I'm basically a dead man running.  The only hope for survival is to break to my right, into some sands dunes, so I keep sprinting hard until I'm just over the crest of the first dune when I jink to the left.  I know from previous experience that even using the 3PP view it's difficult to simultaneously drive a truck and try to see around you - maybe I can lose this guy in the dunes?  A few seconds later the truck comes flying over the dune I've just left.  I'm not even looking now, I can't risk a single mistake so I just keep sprinting over dunes, switching between angling to the left and then the right, always still heading roughly South but no matter what I do I just cannot shake him.  I keep running between the dunes, trying to break line of sight for long enough to lose him completely but he repeatedly reacquires contact.  I’m started to get desperate, I don’t understand how he can be tracking me so well and I feel so defenceless.

I’m borderline panicking when I reach a pond.  I can still hear the truck's engine close behind me, roaring like an angry beast denied a meal.  I steam through the pond still racing South.  Risking a look over each shoulder, I’m relieved to see nothing but trees and dunes.  I’ve lost him at last.  Actually, he's clearly still nearby because I can still hear the engine very loudly, so I reckon he’s probably making his way to the road so he can use the bridge to cross the water.  There's a patch of sand with a row of trees in it which I follow and as I do so I see the truck again - he's pointing directly towards me.  I’m really freaked out now, how the hell does he manage to keep tracking me?  I keep running behind the trees and suddenly the engine gets quieter.  He didn’t see me!  He’s turned away, still hunting for me amongst the dunes.

But I’m freaked out.  I keep sprinting, away from the coast now, straight through the middle of an orchard (good for losing pursuers!), and up into the hills.  I keep thinking I can hear the distant rumble of that engine, and it’s making me paranoid.  I eventually reach the safety of the woods up in the hills and log off.  I can’t take it anymore.

Time to switch to a new character, so I can play without any worries for a bit whilst I recover my confidence.  I pick a nice persistence off private server that I have played on recently and where I know I died (my bad, thought I could handle a drop from some rocks but it was further down than I thought and I went splat) so I duly spawn in on the coast.  Nothing of interest happens to me as I make my way inland, picking up a Mosin and a few other bits and bobs on the way.  The I reach Polana and find a truck.

Again, I am very wary of people’s experiences of trucks in 0.54 but, other than the evil truck™ described above, trucks have been very kind to me in DayZ.  And just look at it – isn’t there something about it that says “jump in, we’re gonna have a great time together!”  It only needs a wagging tail and a giant red tongue lolling out of the bumper to look like an overgrown dog, eager to play and wanting to please it’s owner.  Yes, this truck wants to go for walkies and I shall oblige!  We drove for miles, this tuck and I, covering almost the entire Western side of the map.  We drove down the middle of the NWAF where we found both US and Russian helicopter crashes.  I circled them slowly, looking to see if they had been looted and decided the reward didn’t justify the risk so I drove off.  I passed through towns, just driving, exploring the countryside and covering mile after mile.  We crossed fields, drove up hills, passed through tiny gaps in the trees as we navigated our way through the forests.

And then I found it.

A pillar of smoke rising from the sky indicated the presence of another downed chopper, this time in the middle of a huge field.  Yes, there could be a sniper in the distant tree line but no one could get close to me without me spotting them from a long way away.  The risk was much smaller so now it was time to see what the reward was.  I pulled up close, killed the engine and jumped out.  I found a tan M65 Jacket and Smersh vest straight away – the first time I have seen either of these items.  Then I walked around to the other side of the chopper, past the mini-gun on the side and was confused for a moment because it looked as if there was another gun attached further back.  It took me a second to realise I had just found my first M4A1 since I very first started to play.  I grabbed it and then found a 20 round and 30 round mag, but the 30 round mag just vanished whilst I was hastily sorting out my inventory.  Still, not a bad find!  I jumped back into my faithful truck and we roared off, pleased with our discovery.  Just one thing left to do before I called it a day.

Time to visit Green Mountain.

I’ve been wanting to visit this place for a long time.  I know there’s not much there, loot-wise at least, but that’s never my main reason for visiting places anyway.  No, I wanted to go there because of the stories.  The rumours that strange things happen to people that go there, that there’s something not quite right about that place.  And if they were right, I wanted to go with a trusted companion who could get me the hell out of there pronto.  As we drove South the tower came into view, dominating the skyline.  Was this some sort of evil eye of Sauron style beacon, watching over the surrounding land, or simply a huge metal tower reaching up into the sky?  I lost sight of it as we reached the road that led up to it.  The forest on each side seemed to press in tighter and tighter, as if the trees were giant fingers sticking up out of the ground, trying to link together above my head, close tight and then pull me, the truck and the road down into the ground.  Even though it was still light I found myself switching on the truck’s lights.  We soon reached the gates of the compound and I killed the engine and just sat there for a moment, looking around.  The gates themselves were shut, as was the door to the prison but it felt wrong, really wrong.  Despite my misgivings, I opened the truck door and jumped out.  Without the truck’s engine running the silence was complete and for a minute I thought everything was ok.  Then I realised that DayZ is never silent, there are always some sort of ambient sounds happening, even really incongruous ones like metal doors slamming in the middle of a field.  But here there was nothing.  I started to walk towards the prison building when a loud roar behind me alerted me to danger – someone was stealing my truck!  I span around and the noise immediately stopped.  There was no one there, just my truck sitting there, patiently waiting for me to come back.  WTF?  Freaked out, and now with my M4 out, I decided to raid the prison at high speed.  I got as far as the door when the truck engine again roared for a second and then stopped.  Ok, that’s me done, I have no idea what is going on here and nor do I want to find out.  I ran back to the truck, jumped in and drove off without even bothering to close the door.  We drove South for a few more miles until I was far enough away from that place.  I took the truck into the woods so no one else could find it and crash it.  Then I thanked it for sharing my journey, for taking me to the crashed choppers and for saving me from whatever horror was waiting for me inside the prison at Green Mountain.  This truly was a most worthy truck.

Time for another session and it’s over to my public character, this time on a night server – yay!  I love night servers J  He’s currently packing an SKS with clips, a sawn-off shotgun with snap loaders, a Magnum with a speed loader and an AKS-74U (but no mag) so I have a little more confidence in his abilities.  Running multiple characters can mean I struggle to remember my locations and, more importantly, my aims for each one and this is the case with this guy.  Looking through my inventory I realise that I don’t have any particular needs.  A mag for the AKS might be nice, for sure, but I’m not a PVP’er and generally speaking I don’t like the military locations so that can wait.  Maybe I will find one, maybe not.  I have a fancy that I might try and offer it for trade on the forums since I’ve never traded yet and that might be an interesting experience.  Anyway, with no objective to aim for I decide to just roam the countryside too see what will happen to me.

Like I say, I’ve lost track of where this guy is but I’m in a forest on a steep slope.  Ahead of me is a chain link fence which I approach carefully.  It looks like it could be some sort of military installation, which is odd as like I say I tend to avoid them, but it’s night time and there are only a few other people on so I figure it’s worth the risk to check it out, so I can at least work out where I am.  I follow the fence and get the feeling that something is wrong.  Chain link fences are always broken somewhere along the line but this one is complete.  I reach a corner and follow it around, still without finding a break, and then I reach another corner, again without any break in the fence.  Whatever this compound is, it’s too small for a military base.  Where the hell am I, what is this place?  Ahead I can see some gates in the fence but before I reach them I stop for a second and rack my brains to try and remember everywhere I’ve been and everything I have seen in Chernarus to see if I can place this compound.  And that’s when I realise that I cannot hear any sounds.  On no….it can’t be, can it..?  I run for the two large metal gates and my heart sinks as I see what is behind them.

I’m on top of Green Mountain

Something in my brain clicks – yeah I remember, I had wanted to visit Green Mountain so my public character was making his way there on foot.  And now, knowing that this isn’t a place that I want to be within a mile of, I find myself slap bang in the middle of it.  At night.  I’m about to bolt when I hear a familiar roar for a split second and I turn back to see something out of place, something I didn’t notice before.  There’s a truck parked next to the prison.  Only, Green Mountain isn’t a truck spawn point (according to my map) and it’s parked up perfectly in line with the prison, facing out of the compound – it doesn’t look like it’s been left here by a player...  This is the weirdest thing I have ever known, but I don’t hesitate - I throw open both of the gates and run towards it, open the door jump in and we burn rubber out of there!  Ok, so it’s a reverse repeat of the last run, right?  That means it’s chopper hunting time!  However, navigating, driving and spotting is hard enough to do on your own in the day and at night I just cannot do it.  No matter, I decide I’ll just buzz the NWAF instead.  I approach from the military tent side of the airfield and am immediately alarmed to discover not one, not two, but three trucks already parked on the runway!  What the hell??  With the possibility of at least 3 other players (which is pretty much everyone else on the server at the moment) in the vicinity I don’t stop, just do a lap or two then leave heading East.

As I drive away I think about what to do next and formulate a plan.  If the other players are all in the NWAF area the military base in the North should be safe to explore, plus there’s the bunker complex that I want to visit having read this thread (http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/221680-whos-seen-the-abandoned-soviet-underground-bases/)  – I turn left, find a road and head North.  There are a few scrapes on the way, a couple of near misses where the truck gets stuck, but we finally make it to the bunker complex. I climb down the ladder into the depths until I am on the last rung.  I’ve heard people talk about how the ladder ends a few metres above the ground and I can see that they are right.  Some say that it’s so high that once you drop off the bottom of it you cannot reach it to climb back out and end up trapped in the bunker with no way out.  Others say it’s fine and that you can reach the ladder, despite it appearing to be too high up.  I hang there for a minute, trying to decide what to do..

I climb back up.  Yeah, I’m a chicken, but I’m a live chicken, not one trapped at the bottom of a hole in the ground, with no way out.  I check the nearby barracks building but there’s nothing of interest so I return to the truck.  Hmm, what to do now then?  I don’t have any particular idea, so I just head South to pick up the main East-West road and follow it East towards Novo.  I drive through the town but nothing catches my eye, so I press on to Severo, with the idea of timing a completing a timed lap of Chernarus starting to form in my mind.  Just as I am deciding if I should or not I suffer a massive game freeze – for about 5 seconds the game just stops responding at all, before suddenly updating.  During the freeze the truck has come off the road and is well and truly stuck, wedged up on a crash barrier.  With heavy heart and slight trepidation I get out.  There’s a moment of worry as I appear in mid air, then I float down to the ground alive and well.  Ah well, it was a good run and any truck crash you can walk away from is a good one .  I leave me faithful truck and run through the town when I notice something out of place – 2 more trucks, this time properly crashed, but there are no bodies.  I’ve now randomly seen 6 trucks on the same server during the same session!  I run South until I reach Orlovets where I log off.

Trucks of Chernarus, I salute you!

Alrighty boys... get comfortable. Grab a drink... It's been interesting out there!

Was running around a pub last night hoping to hook up with Schwab and DaveB. I was hanging around what we're referring to as CE for a bit but didn't have a lot of activity there even though the server was half full. Schwab was in another pub and sprinted WAY north to meet up with me- I mean, he was down at the prison island... so I figured I'd be a gentlemen and at LEAST go so far as to meet him in Nizhnoye (a 4 minute run max). I know, I know... I'm very considerate that way.

I ran into town and was looking around for some odds and ends killing time when I bumped into a fresh. I was pretty soft looking but I had some decent gear. I think by now most of the people who read this thread know my "hey how are ya" routine and this one went reasonably well.

"I just got back into the game and haven't been around for a few updates. Been playing Arma3 and stuff-"

"Okay, fair enough- maybe I can help you out a little. You've obviously just spawned in so you're going to be hungry and thirsty. There is a well just on the other side of this orchard. Follow me there and I'll pass over some food as well."

We headed in across the tracks for about a minute and arrived at the well. There I handed him my canteen-

"This will speed it up for you, but I'm going to ask that you give it back." Schwab and I were talking on steam chat so he could hear me.

"What's going on? You okay?"

"Yeah, the guy seems okay. He's saying all the right things."

The guy mentioned that he was waiting for his friend to run down from "some place with a canal" that we took for being Svet.

"Well I have a friend coming up from the south and he's pretty teched out... how about you let us escort you past Berezino and we'll hook you up with your friend?"

"You would do that? That's pretty cool- sure!"

While we were sitting around the well he was talking about some of the features he remembered and I talked to him about some of the new functions.

"In particular, you HAVE to craft yourself a stone knife." I pointed to the stony terrain around the house. "You can search for them here- but it might take you a couple tries. Make sure your hands are empty- then you might need to move your scroll wheel." He looked a couple times and didn't find anything, so I passed my raw stone (used to sharpen my fire axe) and told him to craft it by pointing down at the same ground with the stone in his hand.

"I crafted it, but then it disappeared. I don't have it anymore."

"0456. Yeah, it's a bug... a known bug." I just gave him my crafted stone. I was running out of slots anyway and had more veg than I knew what to do with. He was very appreciative. That made me feel all warm and smooshy so I looked through my inventory and found something I wasn't sure I'd ever use. "Well, here we go," I said over steam chat without toggling the direct chat mic.

"Here we go what?"

"I might be dead in a minute. We'll see." I toggled the mic. "Hey man... look- you seem pretty decent and you could probably use this more than I can." I dropped a Longhorn and some ammo.

"Seriously? Hey thanks man..."

Scwhab was in my ear instantly. "What did you give him?!"

"Longhorn and ammo."

A laugh was his response.

"Well thanks for the gun but I can't fit it in my gear with the food... and I need the food- but I'm stuffed and energized. How about you take it back?"

"Um, okay- I can do that."

"Do what?" Schwab wanted to know.

"He just gave me the gun back..."  We'd found a good one.

Schwab closed the distance pretty quickly and by the time we'd had a chance to introduce one another the server reset. I came back in back on the road (about 1 minute behind where we'd ended up), Schwab was in a tree line to the south and I almost instantly bumped into a fresh with a crowbar. I thought it was our guy- but he had a different colour skin.

"Hey man thought you were someone else. I can see you have a weapon but I'm going to ask that you not draw it. I'll keep my distance and lower mine." He didn't draw, and I lowered my repeater.

"Did you hear gun shots?"

"I just got in here- I didn't hear anything." Snap snap snap- "Holy Shit... let's go!" To Schwab: "Bud we're taking fire- no idea where from-" Fresh and I took some cover behind an E-building of some sort...

"I'm coming- I'm at please wait." I looked around in 3pp over and around to try to spot some movement- SNAP. That got my attention...

"Jesus... seriously?" I turned to face fresh and he was slumping over, dead. "Fuck this I'm out of here!" I sprinted across the road in an evasive pattern and ended up by the docks.

"I'm coming! I'm at the fence by the docks- I see you, to your left... no- other left. See me?"

"Yeah, I see you now... no idea where these guys are."

Meanwhile DaveB has joined and he doesn't have a mic. I get behind cover and warn him that we're taking fire.

"I'm in position east of you- other side of the fence closer to the water." I scanned over the fence in 3pp... there was suddenly a LOT of movement in Nizhnoye and coming out of the treeline. "I've got movement... Ghillie hood- all armed coming towards you. 3...4...5 guys at least." The resident clan guys were in the server and we're kind of thinking it was them. "They're close to you- other side of the fence!" I moved to the break in the fence and started to lean out and go 1pp to start shooting to cover him. CLEARLY in vain but I couldn't just watch this go down.

"Get your hands up- get your fucking hands up!" They ran around the corner-

Schwab opened up with his M4 and turned the first guy into a Tetley teabag... I started shooting but I'm not sure if I was hitting anything- they had just dog piled on him so I did the best I could in my first real PVP engagement that didn't involve me shooting someone in the back while he ran away. Suffice to say I have a feeling that the section of the fence behind where all the action was probably had to respawn down in Cherno because of me.

That makes two of us...

"I'm dead- they got me," Schwab said as I looked at my own "You are dead" screen. "You know, I don't think they even knew I was there. I think they were coming after you."

Then I knew it was on me to spin this into a 6 on 1 where I was hopelessly outgunned and doomed no matter what I did. Yeah, that's right... maybe try to distract the reader away from the fact that I actually just suck at shooting things except perhaps against targets of the bovine variety (before .54).

I did, in fact, spawn back in at Cherno quite close to Schwab but we were quite a distance from DaveB. I made my way towards Elektro and when I got about halfway there I found a few houses that I recognized from a story a couple weeks back (the guy running after me wanting me to kill him). I scanned them quickly but came out to find a shotgun pointed at me.

"Put your hands up and get on the ground." I got my hands up but in the moment forgot I needed to actually crouch after that... there's no dedicated F button for it.

"I'm trying but it won't let me crouch."

"Okay well just keep your hands up. Where are you going?"

"My friend and I just got whacked- I think he spawned in by Berezino (from our conversation on Steam)... we're not sure. I'm heading east and then back up north."

"Did you search these houses?"

"Briefly, yeah- I'm just looking for food and water at this point. I think I'm running enough to stay warm."

"Come into this house with me. I think you're a nice guy but come into the house." Nice as in polite or nice as in delicious, I wondered. I hadn't ever been a part of some sick cannibal activity- a few traps but nothing really unsightly and gross. Maybe this will be a first? I proceeded carefully but couldn't help but start hoping for a respawn closer to Schwab and DaveB. I got in the house, and he closed the door. Now is when the group of dudes dressed in checkered skirts come down throwing human steaks at me while playing Alice Cooper in the background on Direct Chat and... "You've been a nice guy- I can tell you're a good person so I'll help you out." Food... bandages... cans of pop. "Pick a colour, orange or yellow." Orange or a banana maybe?

"Orange please."

An orange raincoat dropped on the ground in front of me.

"Wow man- thanks. I do try to be a good person-"

"You get much farther being a good person than a bad person in DayZ." I wasn't sure I agreed with him but I knew what he was saying and it has admittedly worked out for me pretty well so far.

Schwab piped up. "I'm actually also near Cherno- definitely. Where are you?"

I had mixed up Cherno and Elektro since I have seldom ever been in that area... we sorted it out and I figured he was quite close.

"Hey man- thanks for all the help but you should know my friend is closer than I thought... he's at Cherno- so if he stumbles into us just know he's a good person and doesn't want any trouble."

"Alright well I'm not holding you hostage so go ahead and meet up with him. Be safe out there- I'll keep my eye open for you but just know I'm working in this area."

"I'll do it- thanks again and good luck!"

(I have to run- but the most unbelievable thing happened to me at the end of this story so I can't wait to get it out there. I hope there's a lesson here for ALL of you!)

Me and "thewiredecided to meet up on a low pop and then go look for a truck to take us to some military bases.  We decided to meet at the well in Vybor with the intention of heading north to the airfield.  I made it to the well first as thewire advised that he was in the wrong town (he was in Kabanino, the next town east of our rendezvous point).  I decided to construct a makeshift silencer and put it on the end of my sks (I later found that this is ruined after the first shot and the first shot did not sound silenced).  We were not on any voice comms at this point, so I had a bright idea of "scaring" him when he arrived.  My plan was to run out and yell at him over in-game comms to get down in a masked voice.  So, I typed to him in steam chat that I saw a guy near Vybor (to play into it) but he immediately called me on steam voice chat in panic.  My plan was foiled.. aw shucks.

We filled our water bottles at the well before setting out and then headed north and looted every building and tent the NWAF had to offer.  We noticed two trucks on the runway (one a normal v3s and the other a cargo truck, but they both had no tires!  Every wheel was missing!).  We could open the doors but not enter the trucks despite everything we tried.  It also appeared that someone had been there prior to us arriving as we found nothing of use.  From there we decided that finding a truck was our top priority.  So we headed to Kabanino, then north to Grishino, then further north to Zaprudnoe, then west to Novaya Petrovka and checked every possible spawn point.  Not one truck was found.  I saw that there could be a possible truck spawn just north of Nobaya Petrovka in the "barn area" so I ran there to find a cargo truck with a full tank of gas!  YES!!!

First off, I've driven many "regular" v3s's and have been able to make amazing time around the island.  However, this cargo truck is the slowest hunk of junk I've ever driven.  We called it "Sunday cruising" because we went through each town all the way to the east coast at 35 miles and hour.  The only time we could get above that speed is when we went down a hill and we got up to 45 for a few seconds.  Other than that, I felt helpless driving this thing.  We had a bunch of laughs along the way and saw some places that I have never been to.

We arrived in Svetlojarsk and suddenly heard a "HEY GUYS.. HEY! GUYS! HOLD UP".

Thewire was the one to hear this as I couldn't hear anything in game over the truck engine.  I saw that he had a sledge hammer and no primary weapon of any sort.  So I cut the engine off and told him to get in if he wanted.  He quickly obliged and we headed down to Berezino with a new friend.  Along the way I could hear him talking as long as I was in 1pp.  He advised us that he had a friend in Berezino that he wanted to meet up with.  This put me back into "alert" mode as I was expecting someone to be waiting and to shoot us as we approached, or disembarked.  We arrived at the northern gas station and I pulled up to the pumps and cut the engine.  We all disembarked at the same time and I let thewire draw his weapon as I kept mine holstered.  We chatted with our new friend for a moment and decided to go look for a gas canister.  He said he would go look for his friend and then meet us back at the pump.  I ran to a few sheds before I decided that I did not want to sit and wait to be slaughtered.  I went over to a large brick (non enter able) building and climbed on the roof via ladder while thewire took cover in the gas station behind the register.  We waited for a few minutes and no one showed up so we decided to get in the truck and leave.  I started up the engine and started to drive away at an impressive 30 miles an hour before I asked thewire if he cared if he died.  He said no, so I decided to have some fun and risk the interaction with another player.  I turned around and drove back to the gas station as we looked for "Jake".  This is where the video picks up..

I had a quite funny time on 9thcav server. I was approaching Solnichy when I heard Mosin shots . I ddinät wanna go through town do I went over the mountain instead. As I get to the top I hear a gunshot right next to me. I lay down and wait and after a bit I spot the KOS-bambi-killing- wannabe-bandit-sniper. I'm thinking about sneaking up and tieing him up with duct tape but suddenly he stands up so i go for option B and blow him away with my shotgun. The body slips down the mountain so I cant loot it :/

I continue on to Elektro. As I'm scoping the town out from a hill I notice a guy on one of the firestations roof. He's shooting at soemone with a blaze. After a while a crowd gather to try and take him out but it seems one of them is on his side and he ruins the party for the others. I watch for ten minutes through my scope and its quite funny to watch. After the assailants are dead I go into town to restore order but the server restarts :/

I play for a while on another server and find an Ak101 with PU scope, and AKM, an AK74, two AK74su, magazines for all of these and best of all An Mp5-k with magazine, silencer and buttstock. All on the prison island. I have to leave most of it and keep the ak101 and mp5.

And I didn't die once. :D

And I didn't die once. :D

Lol, nice :-)

I have only visited prison island once. I was on a persistence off private server with a newish, but definitely throw away, character. I swam from way to the North and landed on the rocks on the Northern shore of the prison island itself, hoping to arrive without being spotted. I heard a couple of rifle shots but knew they weren't aimed at me so I climbed up the rocks at the back of the island and moved around the dead end side, just to make sure that the wall was intact (have seen a video where guys blow the wall down with grenades) but mainly to make sure that my back would be clear when I went around to the front. All clear, time to go.

I walk around the other side and it's suspiciously quiet. I am aware that this side is highly visible from across the bridge but it seems clear. I approach the tunnel that enters the bridge and peek carefully around the corner - there are 2 players at the other end just standing there with their backs to me! They look like newish spawns (no military gear or guns, just regular coats and rifles slung on their backs) and if I were a PVPer these guys would both be dead by now. But I'm not so I pull back to the rear of the island to consider my options.

Wise move.

Not 2 minutes later there's a burst of automatic fire and I risk a glance back around the side to see 3 full on military types lying on the bridge. I have no idea who they are shooting but they seem to be covering the tunnel entrance and somewhere across the bridge at the same time. But just like the other 2 I saw they have neglected to check their rear. I consider my options before deciding that the kindest thing to do would be to educate them on their military failings by emptying all 6 cartridges from my Magnum into the wall next to them - so that next time they know to check their rear. Plus, they just look like the sort of tough macho guys who love a challenge and what could be more challenging than having to defend yourself from 3 directions at the same time? So my Magnum rings out half a dozen times and you can tell that all 3 players are having heart attacks from the surprise "attack" in an unexpected direction. Satisfied with my work I hide in a tree at the back of the island and log off so I can come back when it's quieter.

Turns out karma really is a bitch.

I log back in a few days later and there's no one else on the server. Woo hoo, free reign to explore the prison! I walk forwards out of the tree and slip on some boulders, fly out into space and splat onto the rocks below: "You are dead."

Well played karma, well played.

My recent transfer from old laptop to gaming rig has fuelled my confidence lately so myself and a friend logged into a server that was measuring 30/40 players.

We dropped into the prison island relatively geared after a lovely trek down the beautiful but mysterious Green Mountain via Balota and then swimming across to the island the previous day.

I swapped out my black SKS for one of the many AK74's littering the island with enough ammo to start a pmc, then I hear a shriek over comms and my buddy loses his connection from the server, upon re-entering he gets the message that his character could not be loaded, he gets a fresh spawn close to Cherno.

I head out the front of the prison island and find his body, without thinking about it I ran over, realising I was out on the bridge I go prone but no shots….30 players on the server and no one is here strange. Im unable to loot his body, informing my buddy of this I tell him ill grab an MP5 for him from the prison stick it in my backpack and head over.

Dragging myself out of the water and onto the main land I get confirmation he’s nearing the Cherno side of the airfield, I head to a big metal warehouse get myself some sticks and light a fire fending off the impending hypothermia. By now the server is full 40/40 to players im nearing the Balota airfield ive never been in this situation as my old laptop kept me limited to small player count servers.

The fire die’s and im dry, I energise, drink and inevitably get stuffed,

I navigate my way through Balota village dispatching a few geeks on the way with my hatchet and take a knee in one of the ruined buildings on the edge of the airfield checking for activity, I confirm with my buddy on his location heading to the atc builing. Without thinking about it I propel myself into a sprint across the airfield to the control tower, we arrive at the same time and shut the doors behind us.

Safety….

Not for long whilst my buddy checks the room upstairs I see a player come out of the prison building Balota side of the airfield, the feeling of dread, nervousness and sweaty palms I alert my buddy in the tower who’s now prone, I take my place halfway up the stairs and face the door. Lean to my left side and iron sight my AK, has he already looted here will the doors open a few minutes…..sorry seconds pass the doors swing open I immediately drop him in the door with a carefully controlled burst. Only it wasn’t a controlled burst the nervousness showed and id somehow wasted 14 rounds in one encounter I signal to my friend that the guy is down and slowly move to his body.

All his clothing ruined, backpack pristine which I removed from his body with his gun and place them back from the door so they can’t be looted from outside I move back to stairs and take my place underneath them checking my inventory and my buddy moves to the body to grab any loot that he needs. The body is next to the door and he spots a player through the window coming across the runway shotgun in hand he heads up the stairs to get a view from up high. The player arrives at door can see the body of the dead player and obviously figures out someone is inside luckily id already moved the ammo / gun away from the door. Im back in my familiar place on the stairs leaning to my left gun trained on the door.

It falls silent, my friend in the tower is telling me the other player is waiting outside but he can’t quite get a shot just yet, it falls silent again I briefly think about charging out and spraying with my AK but realising a shot gun blast a short range stacks the odds against me. All of a sudden I hear a mosin shot realising my buddy would have been stood up on the roof trying to get shotgun guy I call out “you okay man”….silence…”yeah hes down im going down the ladder to check the guys gear”

I let out a sigh of relief as I open the ATC doors and see a fresh spawn heading up from the Cherno side of the airfield as he gets closer I tell him to “go away and that he can come back for any remaining gear later”, he obliges and heads off into the trees I fall back inside the atc building pick up the SKS from the first guy and drop it outside into a random bush .

A split second passes time to collect my thoughts and think about moving away from the airfield then. “player back of the hangar” my friend calls out as the uneasy feeling fills my body again. I hear rounds fired as I head round the back of the ATC AK raised ready I squeeze out a single bullet dispatching a zombie attracted by the numerous gun shots, zombies and humans sharing a similar trait but with different desires.

I look around for my guy nowhere to be seen fearing that he could be down I crouch in a bush and callout doing this I see a player emerge from the tree’s on the opposite side of the fence my buddy comes running out “hes down”

Before anything else can be said I tell him we are leaving here and we need to regroup, we head out of the airfield disappearing into the shadows cast around us by the tree’s the shaking of my hand on the mouse slowly grinding down

I pick up items/ammo/weapons and place them in random bushes as well.  Good story!

I only played for half an hour y-day and it wasn't the best of times. I went on a new private server and spawned near kamyshovo. Got some clothes and a flaregun with flares and went to kamy. Almost right away when I got there I met a guy and said hello. He ran around me for a bit and I said hello again. he drew out an ice axe, i started running asking what his problem was. After running around for a bit he hit me so i decided to jump in the water. I swam to the nearest isalnd and the guy was standing on the other beach. I gave him the finger and bandaged myself. After a bit he went away but i was pretty sure he was hiding so i went on the other side of the island and swam towards the other islands. Then something stupid happened, my legs started breaking and kept on doing it. I swam back and tried to make a splint but ofcourse it didnt work. So, I couldnt walk, swim or do anything. I made a rock knife and tried to kill myself but it didnt work. I had spent my flares so i couldnt shoot myself.

 Eventually I just logged out.

Starting off this night of adventure is Eno, Dave, and I, together again after a week+ hiatus of having conflicting schedules.

We met up at "Chez Eno" (aka Berezino coast).  Our plan was to roam the coast south of Berezino to offer food and water to freshies.  We joined a populated public server and took our time as we made our way south into the factory (north of Solnichniy) before Dave had to call it a night.  We had no contact up to this point as the server reached capacity.  Eno and I then decided to keep heading south to offer support just as Eno tells me to break comms because he spots a fresh spawn.  He stopped and gave his friendly introduction before being punched square in the face by said freshy (lol).  It must have been his shoulder or chest that was hit, because he was not knocked out.  Eno sidestepped as he skinned his weapon.  I was up the road a tad so I let off one shot in that direction to create a distraction.  The freshy took off south towards Solnichniy and headed off into the woods in the opposite direction.

We decided to let him be as we turn to head north.  This is where the video picks up (please excuse the awful aim by both of us, haha)..

After this video ends, we pick up the pieces in a nearby home.  I then start heading north in the open field like an idiot and wander back and forth while Eno takes care of some zombies.  I then have the brilliant idea to stop and take a drink in the middle of said field and proceed to take a well deserved shot in the back.  My backpack, shirt, and all the contents inside those items were instantly ruined.  I scream like a wee girl and run for the inner city as I zig-zag like a maniac.  More shots ring out that sound like an AK.  We were not sure if it was one or two bandits so we stop to assess the situation.  I dump all of the ruined crap out of my bag and continue to check my surroundings as Eno spots someone in the treeline heading down towards us.  Just as Eno gets a bead on the guy and I start to flank to the left, the server restarts.  We immediately hop back in with the hopes to continue where we left off but they seem to have not rejoined the party.  We swallow our pride, water up at the nearest water pump, and call it a night.

I prefer to be a nice guy- but when people play like that I've found that I take exquisite pleasure in the murder. I get it, now... when people say not to trust anyone... Doesn't mean I'll kill everyone I see on principle... But I will go to great lengths to help them survive. If they want to fight... fight is definitely on. I'll probably shoot myself in the arm first... fortunately I have friends that can help me compensate.

Schwab was an awesome supporter throughout this event... there to cover me when I needed help and to make noise when it mattered. Sorry for my foul tongue... We'd just come away from someone who took a poke at me and then wisely ran away after a minute of taunting so I had transcended into intolerance mode. A mode I've been finding is much easier to achieve having come across a much broader variety of people in this game since I started. I still want to be good- but now I'm finding the people I encounter need to earn it. I've killed my first person- it's no longer a benchmark... it's not an accomplishment to have gone so many hours without killing someone.

Two days ago I killed someone in a shot point blank when they ran into a police station / prison house with their axe drawn having arrived via a truck in Berezino- They ran in the door with their axe up... I shot... Sorry bud- nothing personal but really not the place for a conversation. A couple days before that I encountered someone in a very similar situation in Gorka... less charged but he had a long rifle and I was pretty well equipped and feeling a little sensitive about my gear. I had entered the carousel up top and saw him approach so I quickly moved into the second floor room to the right when you go up the stairs and closed the first door, then the second and waited. Waited for what? An opportunity to disarm? An opportunity to protect myself? That remained to be seen... I waited... and waited... I can hear him downstairs and he is eating and drinking. I wait. My angle isn't the best so I move a couple steps- did he hear me? Did he see me when I saw him? Is he calling his buddies? Is an ambush being set up outside? Is a grenade going to fly in the window? So many questions.

I wait- but oh my GOD did I want to leave after the first minute. He's probably gone now- or he logged... or he's talking to his buddies. Crap. I go out now and he could be waiting for me behind that door. And speaking of that door what way does it open? Where should I be aiming? Door is going to open- is he going to be in the door frame? Is the door going to open towards me and force me to adjust to the right? Not sure... for the life of me I can't remember in or out?!

Crap.

Then I hear it- the first door to the original room opens... I'm busy making sure I remember- thumb activation is talk... index finger activation is shoot... Do I wait until I see him and then shoot? Do I talk... What long rifle does he have? Am I a one shot... Was it an axe? Is he a threat?

Is he a threat? Gorka... probably not- but police / prison... maybe. Some good stuff in here- I grabbed most of it already but I know why he's here. He's probably not here to make friends. He's probably here to get some stuff that he can load into a thing that he can transfer into my head via means that are directionaly explosive. Then again- I'm a good guy and I've got an AKM pointed at the door.

The second door opens- and I'm glad to report my thumb jumped to the challenge just as the character appeared around the corner at a slow crouch.

"Put your gun down! Put your fucking gun down right now or I will shoot-"

There was a very slight pause and the character backed off... to wait for me to come after him with weapon drawn? To back away from the grenade coming in the window? To initiate the assault with folks who had automatic weapons? I wasn't sure.

"Hey- I was just looking around... I don't want any trouble. I'm leaving."

Now I felt bad-

"Wait a sec... I'm just defensive right now. If  you want a fight you will get it but frankly I just want to get out of this room. I saw you approach and needed to defend myself since I saw you had a gun."

"I'm heading west- what about you?"

"Generally East... back to Berezino. I'm not in here to PVP- I try to help people..." As I exited the building I saw the character was in fact outside already. I cautiously moved around him. "I didn't know you were outside already... there is some stuff in there worth getting and I invite you to. I will carry on my way."

"You made me panic in there- I couldn't remember how to drop a weapon or put it away so I just backed off. Thanks for not trying to kill me-"

"Thanks for not forcing me to."

I carried on my way to Chez Eno... Where I looked forward to meeting my friends Schwab, ZH and DaveB

You don't normally have a "foul tongue" and that event justified those words.  As much of a cluster it was, it was fun regardless of how it turned out.  Hopefully next time my aim will be much better.  The gun sway and the fact that anyone can currently run circles around you at mach 4 makes it tough.  Fun stuff.

I didn't kill anyone today and didn't die so I guess it was a good day. I found a magazine for my AKM and some handgrenades. I also found an FNX pistol but having no mag I swapped it for a cr75. Took a ride in a V3S and its amazing how much people like to shoot at those things as you wizz along the coastline. I gave a guy a ride and another guy ran up to the truck when it was standing still and died from it :( I don't count that as killing though since It was the truck. I named it christine and gave it to my passenger.

Running through some large town, no idea what it was but it had docks and rail yards.

I got a couple of things, jacket , hunting pants, 28item back pack, shotgun ( no ammo) and headed into the main section of town where i heard that horrid noise of a zombie, it must have seen me from ten miles away. I sprinted and got into a door way that was open so i slammed it shut. The zombie was clitching through the doorway a bit then i hard a bullet hit.

Cripes , was he shooting at me or the zombie? i figured it was the zombie. I took off upstairs and looked out the window. There was a player fighting the zombies with a yellow back pack, shooting at them. He went inside and two more ran in after him but there were no more shots that i heard. I droped and waited ,then after a minute or two i went down to take a look and saw two dead zombies. I thought because id heard no other shots they had taken him out, i was ready for them , hell i had a can of beans in my hand. Hmm i thought, no sign of him, he went out the back door.

So rather than temp fate i went the other way
