Why do you insist on putting in large cities?

Recommended Posts

I don't understand this. Why are large cities like the new one up north (west of Svet) being added?

For me and everyone I know, that city is an unplayable mess - talking 15 FPS max.

Why waste time and effort putting those massive clusterfucks in when most players won't even go there because of how "killer" the city is - TO YOUR FRAMES THAT IS!

You added a new building to that city - I can't wait to never see it.

Btw my specs are: 4670k, gtx770.

Some of my buddies have even better specs and the piece of shitty city lags for them too.

I have hopes that they`ll optimize this stuff soon. A heapload of people have massive FPS drops in these places.

I even go down to 16-17 fps in the smaller towns for some reason. (Not the smallest though. Medium sized towns)

Yup. I had a similar thing on DayZero. Fortunately medium cities don't lag for me (not that badly at least) but the large cities are an absolutely clusterfuck of a joke.

Maybe they're very optimistic about the optimisation they can do later. Better aim for the future and blow everyone away. In Arma 3 alone in the editor the city runs with a smooth 50fps or more. They need to optimise networking/server/AI that doesn't have that big effect for the client so we can run with decent fps. Also the talking about taking renderer out of the simulation sounds just like what's going to solve big fps hogs.

Because we dont want to live in shitholle like old Chernarus was. We want to live in more urban area.

On Arma 2 or 3 I get over 100 FPS in Chernarus, dropping to 70 in cities. It's the fact that your FPS is server dependant which kills fps for most people.

Noone will "live" in cities fyi.

Well, your CPU does not fall far behind mine. Single core performance should be better. Optimizations are all done? Is the lag visible or are you just assuming this on the FPS displayed? I have visited the city and it was smooth as butter.

Games fine except cities. I've had friends with far worse systems have smooth framerates too. It's just shit optimisation.

Alpha, as stated in the development process for alpha and beta phases of the development process (http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Video_game_development#Development_process) alpha is for feature addition whilst beta is for optimization and bug fixing.

Also when the new engine is implemented with the new renderer, 64 bit and much more your fps should increase nicely.

Same as above. New city for me feels 100% optimised and is smooth as anywhere else.

I run all high or very high settings.

And to actually answer the question. Why not? Do you want miles upon miles of fields and trees?

I have an old laptop with a graphics card running 512mb graphics memory. When they opened Svetlo a couple months ago, I could not get near that city without massive drops, to the point where it was unplayable. With this new city, it is very smooth for me and I have no issues. I have not been back to Svetlo since this patch, but I wonder if it is better now.

I agree, I visited the new city and toured the new town hall, not much lag for me. Im running i5 quad/7870hd.

I underlined the reason for the lag you experience. Sorry, but playing on that old laptop, you're always going to have a bad time. Even the newer gaming laptops won't run this game smoothly the way a well-equipped desktop can.

I get better frames in the new city than i do in svet, elektro and cherno

For me it runs like a dream as well.

My machine is relatively old (around 3 years).

I run a Radeon 6870 Black edition which isn't exactly high end.

I have used an FPS increase guide on steam community though that has improved my FPS by about 15-20 which does help in firefights in cities. (PM me if you want the link to it).

im not a framerate junki ^^and for me is the framerate ok and playable. and don´t forgot the engine is in the most corners the old opf engine since 2001  with all the limitations !! same in arma series .

wait of the step by step rebuild with new technolgy, than use the engine the hardware better than now - actual maybe 50% and only 2 cores :D same shit since 13 years ^^

in arma 1 and 2 ( and in arma3 ) we have all urged and annoyed to the ground problems ( the bad netcode - the 32bit servers- th performance- the very bad multicore ( effektiv 2 cores ) and so soon  - the answer was - we can't / we are to little / we have no desire /we have no more desire for military games ( and then come the terrible running arma 3 ) /  too complicated / defrac you your hdd  - - LLOOLL ( holy shit )  the most of the new guys in arma was very jung community members with no big ground experience, no specialists :D and then you become very big bugs and a long long development time....     now they have this chanced

and you can do it thanks dean hall which must now be solved after 13 years the right problems in the engine

and i have a bad feel when he go - a very bad feel ....................................they do it just continues like all the years..........

Berezino is currently the only city that runs well for me. My processor is overclocked to 5.2GHz and my video cards are boosting to 1.3GHz and I still drop to 20 frames per second in larger cities. It doesn't matter if my settings are on maximum or minimum, I get the same frame rate.

However, while this topic has been beaten to death, I too wonder why they insist on adding new cities to the game before optimizing them. How are we to test them out if no one wants to visit them?

I don't want to disappoint you, but these boys were working, and pretty looong and realy haaard, on Arma II optimizations as well. So DAYZ is the actual result? Buuut there is the Alfa magical word, so we will see. I am optimistic, very optimistic - doctors say I can live for at least next 20-30 years! One day, maybe soon, it will happen. I have faith! But the truth is, I believed and for a long time, that Santa Clause exists, so this, this could be a little hiccup. For you not for me. He could be real, just - must be, who else 'd bring me the new socks this year? Black again?

The big frame rate killer for me is using the flashlight at night in the big apartment district north of cherno, it becomes a slideshow for some reason. During the day it ain't pretty but it's mostly playable but that useless little spotlight murders my fps for some reason there.

i go down to about 35, or as low as 30 for a short time, in electro and cherno , but i was in the new town last night, and it didnt feel as slow as it does in electro and cherno.

i didnt load fraps, but game felt fine for me, definitely not near 15, probably 40, il check again later anyway.

I wonder why some cities are so much better than others. Svetlo was horrible for me, but I could run around Berez or Elektro all day without problems. Doesn't make sense to me.
