Do you care if ingame weapons fire the correct ammo or not?

I guess people simply cannot understand what "right now" means. They have to have their AK-74s right now, or they'll die!

Because it's perfectly reasonable to assume the devs would go through all the time to make a brilliant model of a gun and not eventually add it.

i care for weapon calibers, i care for looking for the right kind of ammo so everything can have decent rarity and i care for realism and immersion.

Why dont yo divide ammo in "pistol ammo", "shotgun ammo" and "assault rifle ammo" then.

This dumbing down that devs are doing in the game is looking bad as shit. Are they making the game easier so more casuals will fill the already emptying servers?

Went into epic wall of text mode, decided against it.

Don't care about authentic calibers at all, there seems to be plenty of bullet types already.

I personally don't really care about the little differences between similar ammos.  I think I spend more time looking up guns and ammo types than your typical DayZ player too, if my group is any real indication.  I still couldn't actually tell you the difference between 7.62x54mm and 7.62x51mm or whatever the fuck people are always complaining about with the mosin ammo.

I wouldn't want an m4 shooting the same ammo as a mosin, but I don't see a problem at all with not getting super nitpicky with tiny variations.

Frankly, I find the entire debate completely irrelevant. Performance characteristics between these "similar" calibers IS roughly the same, but not EXACTLY the same. From a development standpoint, I get it, and understand why. And I am a gun aficionado myself. I could do without the exact, proper calibers in game, even if I would PREFER (in a perfect world where I get everything I want) to have the proper calibers put in.

But that's not why I find the debate irrelevant. I could go either way honestly. I find it irrelevant because as long as we continue to have randomized dispersion I REFUSE to play the game. I continue to pop into the forums to follow the development, but I have stopped playing because of this.

When I (in game) shoot a target and do so with proper aim (and, depending on the type of target, with proper, superior positioning), I expect to be rewarded with a successful hit. Be it another player, or a zombie, or just a spot on a wall I decided to try and hit. In addition, when another player does the same to ME, I EXPECT to be punished by injury or death for allowing myself to fall under his or her sights, either through inferior maneuvering, awareness, or even simply LUCK.

That we still have this, and whats more, that some people actually want it to STAY that way, blows my mind. I just don't get why anyone would want randomized accuracy. Incorporate a mechanic, such as sway, that requires skillfull compensation, and/or sight elevation AS WELL as windage adjustmants, and then you will have skillfull shooting. I hate that it can be based entirely on LUCK, rather than actuall skill.

Until (if) this is fixed, I just don't care.

what it comes down to is us really wanting to have the lowest possible number of calibers spawning in the game

Why? Why do they want that?

Could see this coming when they decided to leave 3rd person in a "survival" game

If the devs are so lazy about the ammunition types, why didn't they let the AKM fire 7.62x51s?

According to Torchia they almost did... sounds like someone had to argue hard for the inclusion of 7,62x39.

This was never an issue in the mod, because you'd just pick up "CZ550 ammo".

Which the item description would tell you was 7x64mm. All guns had correct calibers.

Making an AK-74 fire 5.56x45mm is unrealistic, but that hasn't actually happened.

Mosin already fires wrong ammo and so will SVD.

Anyways I hate guns using the wrong ammo. I something's deliberately and blatantly incorrect it makes me rage. I don't see the harm in adding TWO more calibers so all the guns can be correct (5,45x39 and 7,62x54R). Two. 2. II. Not seventeen.

You seem to hate the SA a lot. Where is this coming from? You should know that it's not finished yet and should give it a bit more time. Anything else would be unfair, considering you have been warned it is an Alpha.

Most of us aren't mad about lak of, or unfinished features. (alpha is a valid reason for this)

what we are disgrunteled with is general design direction- a move towards streamlined systems, a move away from realistic weapon behaviors, and more of an "arcadey" survival game with onyl a handlful of things cherry picked for poorly done attempts at realism.

The mod was better BECAUSE it was built on a MILSIM FRAMEWORK. it wasn't fair, it wasn't "balanced" . neither is life or the real world. make a mistake in a hostile area? CRACK death.

We're not going to get our better version of the mod- wrere going to get a whole new animal that's geared for a wider audience. at this point i've come to the conclusion that private hives and mods are the only chance this game has left. the minute private hives start the first thing on my list is to begin the long process of un-ruining DayZ. that is revert it to first year official mod. then it will be a prettuer version of the game we actually like.

Because it cuts down on work, pure and simple.

Nope! Maybe one minute of work.

Just add an ammo press and a way to scavenge brass/caps etc, everybody wins :D

Not really, they would need to either make new models or at least change the current ones, and change the way the ammo interacts with the current/additional guns.  As well as change loot tables.

All so that some nitpicky folk can have a miniscule difference of realism, that has no real affect on gameplay, except to make loot tables more convoluted.

every other game has them? does every other game have a 400 square km map with 10000 ammo spawns on it?

the nature of the game, the reason I play it may impose restrictions. Big deal.

Awesome idea. After they get rid of the exploiters/dupers and hackers, of course. Before then it is pointless.

Nah, it's a copy-paste, change the names and some digits, add it into the ammo spawns and bang! You got your correct ammo types.

This has nothing to do with requiring extra work.

Yes there is? 7.62x51 is NATO. 7.62x54 is Russian.

The 7,62x51 is the NATO designation for the .308 Winchester round. It was developed to replace the .30-06 (7.62x63) Springfield Model of '06 for the M14 rifle.

The 7.62x54R is the oldest full-power military cartridge still in use today. It was developed in Russian in 1890, for the Model 1891 Mosin-Nagant Rifle. It is a RIMMED case, as opposed to the rimless 7.62x51. Power is approximately the same as the .308. It uses .310" diameter bullets, has a case neck of .340", and an overall length of 2.20".

It was like this in the mod - the gun people were running around with 2 wheels and an engine block in their backpacks complaining that the AKM and Sa58 magazines shoud not be interchangeable.

You just described extra work.

And if they don't differentiate the rounds some how in the models, whether it's just a texture change or not, it'll just lead to confusion.  Also, they would have to configure the guns to the particular ammo types.

If all you want is a label change then you're being extremely nitpicky for no actual purpose.

Any "extra work" has zero bearing on the developers' decision to "streamline" the ammunition. Am I being "extremely nitpicky"? Maybe to some, but I don't think so, weapons using their correct cartridges is not much to ask and can hardly be said to be detrimental to gameplay.

It's actually the entire reasoning behind their decision.  It's extra work with very little payoff.

No, the reasoning is that they want to make it simple and "streamlined" for the average player, they don't want to have a bunch of different ammo spawning for whatever reason. It's a design decision. They did not settle on this because a new caliber would require a couple minutes of copy-pasting and a model of a cardboard box with the caliber written on it. They aren't lazy.

Honestly, Gews, what does it matter?  Mods are going to take over and players are going to get what they want anyway.

I have little faith in mods fixing things like this. DayZero was probably the best mod of the mod but they nerfed and buffed like shit was Battlefield 3.

And what does anything matter? If you can be all Bobby McFerrin I'm very happy for you... but it matters to me and will continue to, so hey.

when are we going to get realistic shoe sizes in this game instead of this unrealistic ridiculous "one size fits all" kind of CoD mentality ??

Everyone knows REAL army boots come in a RANGE of sizes

everyone KNOWS if you have small feet you CANT wear large boots

and EVEN WORSE

if you have LARGE feet you REALLY cant wear SMALL boots

does nobody UNDERSTAND this ??

I find the game totally unplayable due to the unrealistic FOOT SIZE stupidity situation. We need to have at least TEN different boot sizes or this is nothing to do with REALITY. I have given up playing because I can't stand running about in definitely the wrong sized jungle boots. Do the Devs think this is Battlefield3 or something.??  AND the other 2 MILLION PLAYERS all agree about this, obviously, this is why they keep getting KILLED by zombies, because they cant RUN properly. The zombies are the only REALISTIC thing in the game and they are DEFINITELY more realistic than the players who cant even tie their bootlaces. Is this a SIMULATION or What. ?? I can't stand it.

I'm going to add a really long string of blown up photos of FOOTWEAR from Eastern Europe and NATO as well as some HOME MADE footware MODS, some with leather straps and some with buttons and some with VELCRO and some with the standard 2.56 mm bootlaces. So you can see the DIFFERENCE you bunch of CoD nerds. Get real. And also Jungle boots SMELL different to combat boots or trainers. What's wrong with everyone ?

I think that problem for some people is not that the game is unfinished Alpha, but rather the direction it seems to be heading.

We can ofc be totally wrong, we are not the devs, but really any attempts at "streamlining" in SA smells of "catering to the masses".

I mean I'm still DayZ mod+SA fan, I've bought 2nd copy of SA to give it to either my fiancee or some of me buddies, once it reaches level good enough (mostly after FPS are better).

It just rustles my Jimmies a ton, when weapons are shooting incorrect calibers, when iconic (for Czech rep) Sa vz.58 might not ever gets added, because it's too "simmilar" to the AK, when attachments are drastically influencing accuracy of weapons, when 1 shot to the body ruins half of the stuff ..it's not even the full list.

So my, and maybe other's hopes are, that Devs will really ditch all this unrealistic stuff and deliver us game, that is better then mod in every possible way.

If devs made list, showing what is currently only placeholder and will get replaced later, that might sooth many concerned minds :).

My god. You people have no ground to stand on so you exaggerate and say over the top things. Your stupid rant has nothing to do with ammunition calibers is totally unrelated and pretty fucking stupid comparison.
