Shotgun most worthless weapon the game?

So a few weeks ago I was running around in Berenzino when I came across a guy with a shotgun who started shooting at me. He hit me and I dropped down: Fracture. But no bleeding! I wondered how that is even possible, I managed to kill the guy from prone position. I was like: Oh yeah, the shotgun is bad.

 

So today I was killed and in the process of re-gearing myself. I managed to pick up a shotgun somewhere and some shotgun rounds and my journey began. I was in a busy city in Berenzino again so I was expecting some enemies, but still I was suprised when I saw a fully geared m4 holding guy on the stairs inside a random house I was looting.  I quickly shot once, but missed, because I was still moving and didn't aim carefully. He didn't appear to be camping the stairs, but doing something else instead. He didn't instantly react when he saw me. So I carefully stood still and aimed at his chest with the aim down sight function.

 

Basically like in this picture (red dot):

So I took the shot. Distance was about 3 metres, gun was set at 100m. BOOM.

 

I see some blood, but he doesn't instantly drop. I wasn't in a laggy server and I wasn't experiencing any lag, but I was like: hmm it must be the lag, he will drop in a second.

 

The guy starts shooting at me and I quickly hide. He camps the stairs for a minute while I check him from 3rd person. He doesn't go dead/unconcious! But worst of all:

 

NOT EVEN BLEEDING

 

What. The. Hell.

 

 

I experienced it as a victim, but also as the gunman: The shotgun is worthless. It doesn't even cause bleeding. Let alone kill someone at almost point blank range where it's supposed to shine at.

 

Might aswell just remove the weapon..

A guy ran at me with an axe once. I shot him in the chest at short range. He went down. Shot him again to make sure.

 

Then I lived happily ever after.

Yeah, my experience of the shotgun is a 2 shot kill to the body, even on fresh spawns and always at close range. No way is it realistic at all, one shot at close range will destroy anyone!!

Shotgun is the best. Just make it a sawn-off model and you are good to go :)

I always run with a Sawn-off Shotty for my secondary, and it has yet to fail me, I always drop the guy/gal in one hit to the torso/head and even if I somehow miss and break their legs the person usually falls unconscious or tries to combat log and I just blast their face off with another shell.

 

It is terribly loud though, and shouldn't be used if your going for the whole "stealth" approach to your kills.

Did he have a helmet? Helmets basicly render him very tough to kill with a shotgun. Balistic helmets that is.

Well then can someone explain to me why I didn't kill this guy from 3 metres distance with a shot right through his torso? (no laggy server, The target and me were both standing still). Hell, he didn't even bleed or go unconcious?

U are bad aim; also it is a bit random. I one shot kill people across the length of the school and sometimes need two shots at point blank range. Luck plays a part

Seems the shotgun damage is very random from player to player. A few days ago I saw in the new town outside of svetlo in experimental ( Maybe exp has something to do with it) But I saw a guy in a hospital hallway ( I was in the door) and he was all the way at the end of it and I took him out with a single shot. I dont know if he had a helmet or not, I can't remember.

The shotgun is both great and terrible.  Currently, it is the most inconsistent weapon in the game.  At times it is a one shot kill, at others it takes multiple dumps to even affect a man.

 

The sawed off is even worse for the inconsistency.

While my experience is pretty limited the instances I saw a shotgun in action against players it was pretty deadly.

 

Maybe you hit him in the chaest and the damage was partially soaked up by his gear? Theodore Roosevelt approves of this method.

In translation no attempt to communicate and you quickly figure the guy is AFK... quick get the kill in?

dude you must be fast..

 

From the sound of things, I think there were serious lag/latency issues going on which may have contributed to both the OP survival and that of his target.

 

Concerning the shotgun, I once killed a squad of fully geared players in Zeleno by dipping in and out behind buildings and shooting a sawed off.  Took over 30 rounds to kill the three, but it worked.  Another time, I killed two fully geared guys in a house in Berezino.  Both times were ambushes or course, but they worked out well.

 

Then or course there are the multiple times where I shot two rounds at close range and did apparently nothing so there you have it, the shotguns are strange.

Just bad luck mate, to say a gun is useless due to one encounter is a bit of an overexxageration, shotgun has saved me and will continue to many times. I have taken down plenty of people with one shot and they are fully geareed.

 

wHAT YOU NEED TO ALSO UNDERSTAND IS THAT THE SHOTGUN SPREAD CAN BE COMPLETELY RANDOM SO ALTHOUGH YOU WERE AIMING AT HIM MAYBE A LOT OF THE PELLETS VEERED TO THE RIGHT OR SOMETHING. (SORRY ABOUT THE CAPS.) anyway i  would say this was just bad luck and to try again and i doubt you would have the same problem.

I always have my Sawn-off zeroed in at 50 because I use it only for clearing buildings, maybe having yours at 100 was the cause of him not going down?

Oke let me explain. First of all, I was being shot at when I entered the house by an m4. I noticed this guy on the stairs with a weapon in his hands and missed out of panic. Then I noticed he wasn't responding so I took a carefull shot at his chest as in the picture.

 

He then started aiming at me and spraying out of panic and I quickly ran across the corner.

 

So no there was no real lag or anything.

 

If the shotgun is so random that from 3 meter distance, aiming on the middle of the enemy chest, the gun somehow fails due to random dispersion or whatever, I was right: this weapon is useless. I don't even want to know how this weapon performs at typical close range encounter such as 10 meter distance, when it completely fails at 3m encounters.

I also thought about that, but should that play a big role from 3 meter distance? If anything the shots went a little bit higher towards his neck which should do even more damage.

Sawn-off works very well, at short range. I was looting a hospital and some guy in a clown mask shouted "Remember the Alamo" and attacked me with a crowbar. One shot to the chest and he was back at the beach.

It's probably clothing and stuff in their clothing and too much inaccuracy and spread. I checked it once, with the sawn-off it was something like 0.2 meter random dispersion from POA and then a 9-pellet pattern with a diameter of 0.5 meters... at a range of 5 meters, ie. point blank. Many shots are much further than 5 meters meaning only a couple pellets might hit.

Well shotgun is obivously waiting (I hope) for rework same as M4 accuracy and gun handling in general.

Too much random dispersion is killing the fun of killing.

 

But yes, this topic has been beaten to the death already.

I just wish devs acknowledged this and stated clearly, that they will rework this.

shotgun seems to work for me (especially with snap loaders), as long as you're not trying to snipe with it.

The U.N Helmet + Vest combo actually saved me another time, but I couldn't get a screencap of it.

 

I was running out of a police station I looted with my fists up  when a guy shotguns me. Twice. My legs broke and I fell to the street. I got my weapon out and called out to my group that the guy was behind a bus stop, and they shoot him down. Aside from busted legs and gear, I was completely fine. Here's the gear that blew up:

U.N Helmet ruined

Wool coat badly damaged

Press Vest ruined

Hunter pants ruined

 

 

Happened in exp .44.

shot gun has two uses, and two uses ONLY:

 

1: as starting weapon. ammo is plentiful, no magazines, very loud to scare off other freshies.

 

2: sawed off, in your vest/backpack as a secondary sidearm or vanity item.

 

even if the shotgun worked properly at close and medium range, it would still be the most useless firearm compared to the utility and versatility of other weapons.

 

having a new shotgun, like a pump action, could be useful.
